Truly, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. We are a very backward thinking people if the most recent uproar is anything to go by.

I did not support GEJ as a candidate but I hoped and prayed that he would succeed once he became president.

Until this recent scream about PMB appointing northerners, I had no idea that GEJ did similar. All I know is that most of his appointees were totally incompetent.

People should evaluate appointees based on qualifications and performance, NOT their tribe.

I fully support PMB and I am confident that even if one of these appointees underperform, he will not hesitate to give them the axe.
I did not vote him because he is a northerner, I voted him because he was the best candidate presented.
Thanks for purifying your minds

As salam alaykum warahmatullah wabarkatuhu; thanks for keeping the thoughts flowing. smiley

Hey brother, hey sister, where's your salam?
Your hijab flows to the hem, your head is worthy of a madam
Your clothes have cool not hot colors
And no on catches a whiff of perfume outdoors

Do you rejoice in the promise of a good hereafter?
Should you rejoice at the loss of the unbeliever?
But your face dear sister, dear brother
Is quite lacking in peace ever

But a strand of her hair is showing
And his pants and the floor are touching
Pffttt! He's not good enough
She's one of the misguided and rough

Externally, you reach way too far
Yet salam is so easy to mar
Peace with yourself is what you need to find
With Allah, with jinns and mankind.

Salaam

@sino
What attracted me to the thread is that a similar thread has been addressed in the past where someone posted an article directed against Nouman Ali Khan.

I recall one of his videos where he lamented how much time we muslims waste on "scholar wars". Totally unproductive

I advise that you save your time for more rewarding things than try to change kennyosein's mind. May Allah safeguard us, Ameen

@kennyosein

I try to follow your presentations and it appears to me that anyone who presents Islam in a beautiful manner that makes people, muslims and non muslims, want to come into Islam and closer to Allah, they automatically go into a "bad book" of sorts. Pardon the word!
Is Islam not beautiful? Does a preacher have to look angry and miserable? Do you have to feel hopeless and depressed when you listen to a muslim preacher? And if you don't, there is something awfully wrong with the preacher?

Do you have a list of "acceptable preachers"? What are the criteria?

I am sure there are verses in the Quran that warn us to be cautious about making judgments on other people.

If you had a choice, a say
All technology at your disposal
A choice to get the best
In the event of ill health

To keep you alive
Or to get you revived
What’s your Code status?
If your artery ruptures

Your heart may stop
And your lungs flop
But Ma'am we can restart your heart
And get your lungs to inflate

The fear in her eyes is real
Everyone gets the same deal
Reassured, she takes a deep breath
She is but four score and eight

Again, she sighed
"Well if I will be okay, then don’t let me die”
Who knows if she’ll be okay

How on earth

Two women walked in front of me. I couldn't help but over hear their conversation.
"I applied for a loan and they are offering it at 13%, imagine I actually have a saving's account with them; and I've had it for so many years"

"hmmrmmph, they loan your own money out to you at a ridiculous rate" retorted her companion. "So how much percent is your savings account" she asked.

"It's actually less than 1 percent" she responded .

They both grumble some more and turned to the left hallway while I took the right.

I also knew that the first woman will take the loan. Then I started to think about the system and how easy it is to get into the rat race. And I asked myself how was the idea of interest finance packaged, marketed and sold to us?

How?

I ask because it makes no mathematical sense.

Why not me?

I look at her, she’s so smart. Close to her sixties in fact. Head of a multinational leading firm
Notable for outstanding decisions

Her hair is cropped short, a bob, she wears no make up, her suit has elbow patches. I had only seen that in men.

She is compassionate about charity and tolerance. Her subordinates loved her so.

I wondered about a husband, and kids and all that.. I learned about her story. She was an only child born to well learned parents.

No, she has neither husband, nor kids.
And then one day, a press release. “This is her “wife”” She is not straight and has never hidden it.
She is proud of who she is and wears her identity as a badge of honor.

But all for whose pleasure. To what end?

Then why not me?

I have been commanded to cover my modesty, to lower my gaze as well as modulate my voice.

To not be alone in the company of men who are not my relatives.
To not engage in acts of lewdness. To be kind to my parents, children, relatives, Muslims and mankind.

But all for whose pleasure?

Allah’s

I have been offered a better deal. I should wear my identity as a badge of honor. I should be proud of who I am.
Will I become the head of an intercontinental firm? If Allah wills? Do I want to be? Another thought to ponder .
So, Why not me?

A husband and a body for bikini
And Children, smart and sweet
All without a sweat

I love beautiful friends
And respect from all fiends
Walk tall and proud
Without being run aground

Let no harm do my family
More digits added to my salary
The best health anyone can have
Brains and brawns of the brave

Yes, yes, more and more
But when the breath is no more
Six feet under, no room to think
Or fit my mountain of things.

Thank you brother. You should not fear hell, it is a creation. You should fear being condemned to hell which is an action performed ONLY by Allah. So I do not see how one can be afraid of hell as you put it. Fear getting hell as a result of your actions/inactions. The results will be handed out by Allah.

How on earth did anyone arrive at fear of hell anyways?

Salaam alaykum
Thanks brothers and sisters for ur very enlightening contribution
Still what to clarify this issue further thou
should we fear the displeasure of God due to our Love for Him or Love(worship) him due to our Fear of Hell?
Better still should we teach a child to worship Allah out of Fear of hell? Or worship Him due to Love for?
note I'm nt saying that we should fear the displeasure of God what I mean is should We fear
Wat I mean is fear of hell and love of God which should be our prerequisite for worship
Why is it important to separate/select one? Will this analysis bring one closer to Allah? Is Allah's reward real? Is Hell real? Even though none of us saw it? Why not worship Him for all three reasons Or worship Him because He created you for that purpose?

I am trying to follow this topic to see how it brings us closer to Allah.

Salam aleikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Firstly, i would love if the word LOGIC is substituted for REASONING, CONTEMPLATION OR MEDITATION...you can check the dictionary meaning so you understand where am coming from.....
Logic (from the Ancient Greek: λογική, logike)[1] is the use and study of valid reasoning.[2][3] The study of logic features most prominently in the subjects of philosophy, mathematics, and computer science.

IMO - Use of valid Reasoning. Would it relate to reflecting or using one's brain? I am not good at playing on words. In my post and the other posts I read, I loosely used the word as "reason, think, ponder, understand" i.e do not swallow "hook, line and sinker"

As salam alaykum warahmatullah wabarkatuhu
I agree with tbaba . My understanding has always been that we MUST use our logic. Allah makes things easy for us to understand. This is why muslims MUST understand why we do what Allah and His Prophet (SAW) command. (Not why He commands it for some He makes clear and others are best known to Him)

It is perfectly acceptable to Allah that we worship Him out of love, out of fear of His anger and out of Hope for His rewards. Isn't this what separates a believer from a kafir? Thinking, speaking and acting in remembrance of The Unseen?

May Allah safeguard us. Ameen

IslamBefore Ramadan: Renewing Our Vows With The Quran by ayinba1(op): 4:28am On May 26, 2015
As salam alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuhu. I wanted to share this with you. See link below for source

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

The Qur'an is the “rope of Allah” (3:103); whoever grabs onto it will be saved, and whoever loosens his grip will be destroyed. The Qur'an is also the “spirit” He revealed (42:52), because just as the body came from earth and is nourished by it, likewise our spirit will inevitably dry up and crack without being quenched by the spiritual fountain of the Qur'an. The Qur'an is also “the light” (64:cool, which acquaints a person with His Creator, enables us to correctly size up dunya and deen, and to pierce with our hearts the veils of the unseen.

However, all this remains dependent on deep, regular reflection of its divine messages. The command to beautify our voice in recitation, the perk of 10 good deeds per letter, and that of being upgraded a station for eternity with each verse we memorize – is all to bring us to that end. Only through such reflection can someone tap into the secrets of the Qur'an, and only in that is the life transforming power of Allah's words. The Most High said, “[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.” [38:29]

Hence, for Ramadan and beyond, consider the following “reflections checklist” to help revolutionize your reading of the Qur'an – but prepare to be mesmerized! Below is an awesomely insightful, splendidly practical, radically invigorating Qur'an coach.

Though I misplaced the original author's name after translating this piece, and it slowly evolved over time, I pray Allah exalts his mention among the angels, and enables us to thank Him personally at the riverbanks of Paradise. Ameen.

Factors that Fuel Reflection

1. Undivided Attention

Not with your phone as it receives calls, or rings with notifications, or anything else that breaks your thought process. Likewise, beware of the internal impediments, such as choosing times when the stomach is full, or the mind is preoccupied, or the eyes are exhausted.

The Qur'an commands us with “tadabbur” (deep reflection), which comes from the word “dubur,” which means the back end of something. In other words, stop at each word and check what lies behind it. Consider why the Most Eloquent of speakers chose this term and not another. Upon doing so, you will realize that the secret key was more about dedication than a riddle-solving forte.

2. Lengthy Sessions

The Qur'anic message is like a friend; the longer you sit together, the more of its secrets it discloses.

Take notice of how Allah calls His book 'Azeez, which means – among other things – proud. Part of that is the Qur'an refusing to be marginalized in your heart, or to have the leftovers of your time. Even with your undivided attention, you must prove your loyalty before beginning to see meanings that are hidden in plain sight. You will find yourself baffled, wondering how you didn't catch that before. The answer is simple – you had not yet qualified.

3. Familiarity with the Meaning

Reflection is secondary to understanding. If you understand, then you might reflect, but if you don't understand, you cannot. The celebrated imam at-Tabari would say, “I marvel at how someone who doesn't know the tafseer (interpretation) could enjoy the Qur'an.”

Before you quickly jump to say, “But I enjoy the Qur'an, even if I don't understand it,” be certain that imam at–Tabari (may Allah bestow mercy upon him) knows this full well. Rather, he is speaking relatively here, reminding us that the beautiful melody and soothing rhythm are indeed gorgeous, but the truest treasure lies in the savoring the meanings they carry. Briefing yourself on a good translation (i.e., Sahih International) should suffice in this regard.

4. Learning this Skill from the Experts

Be like the early Muslims and scholars who focused on extracting lessons from each verse.

For example, Wuhayb ibn al-Ward would cry upon hearing the verse, “And [mention] when Ibrâheem was erecting the foundations of the House, along with Ismâ'eel, saying, 'Our Lord! Accept from us…'” [2:127] and say, “This is the friend of Allah, building the [greatest] House of Allah, and [yet] he begs that it be accepted of him.” By that, he would reflect on our premature sense of security regarding our meeker deeds being acceptance-worthy. Subhan Allah!

Similarly, when Hafs ibn Sulayman heard the verses, “Have We not expanded for you [O Muhammad] your chest? And removed from you your sins – that burdened your back? And raised high for you your repute?” [98:1-3] he wept and said, “His sins weighed down his back, and he (saw) has no sins, then what about us?”

5. Identifying the Theme(s) of the Surah

This is important for context, and for connecting the dots. The word “Surah” comes from “Soor” which means fence or gate, calling our attention to the fact that each Surah is a distinct bundle of verses packaged together and isolated from others. Teach your heart to inquire why this set of verses (Surah) was separated from another. This will open worlds of meanings for you insha' Allah.

For example, Surat ar-Rahmân begins with His name (ar-Rahmân), and then ends with, “Blessed is the Name of your Lord.” [55:78] Now go back and read everything in between with this newly discovered theme in mind!

6. Living with the Prophets

But keeping in mind they were human beings. Notice how they acted, for instance, in various parts of their stories – and ask yourself why Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) chose to illustrate their progress and uphill climb. Note how the Most Merciful highlights for us certain moments where His greatest slaves struggled with emotions and temptations.

For a quick demo, reflect on the fear of Musâ 'alayhi'l-salām (peace be upon him). When He first comes to the blessed valley and the staff becomes a snake, he flees and doesn't even turn back, until Allah tells him, “O Moses, fear not. Indeed, in My presence the messengers do not fear.” [27:10] Later, he stands before Pharaoh and fear creeps back into his heart (20:67), but this time he stands his ground. Later, the whole nation of Israelites is struck with fear when caught between the sea and the approaching army, but this time the fear of Musâ 'alayhi'l-salām (peace be upon him) is nowhere to be found. Instead, he said, “No! My Lord is certainly with me, [and] He will direct me…” [26:62] Allahu Akbar!

7. Knowing the Circumstances of Revelation

Learn the atmosphere of the Surah. Makkan chapters descended in times of oppression and turmoil, while Madinan chapters descended in times of victory and developing a model generation.

That will enable you to break past the literal meanings, without necessarily ignoring them. The easiest example here is how Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) picked up from Surat an-Nasr that the death of the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) was near. How? The context of revelation.

8. Focusing on Oneself and one's Flaws

Allow the Qur'an to tell you about you! Fight the urge to read for posting, collecting, and discussing. Use it to remedy your diseases, and purge with the Qur'an the poisons from your heart. The key here is to hand your heart over to the Qur'an, sizing yourself up against how responsive you are to the fact that none other than Allah is speaking.

Upon arriving there, you will be amazed to see how a single verse can remedy a whole spectrum of ills. For instance, the oft-repeated statement in al-Fâtihah, “Owner of the Day of Resurrection,” [1:4] can serve to break arrogance and brace cowardice, but only if each heart reads it introspectively.

9. Comparing Similar Scenes

Taste the parallels of the Qur'an, and the messages behind them.

For instance, you find Musâ 'alayhi'l-salām (peace be upon him) saying, “My Lord! Because you have favored me…” [28:17] and Iblees saying, “My Lord! Because you have misled me…” [7:16] Does this not mirror the disparity in mentalities today? Does this not trigger an epiphany on how a Satanic perspective delivers to Hellfire, and the Prophetic perspective delivers to Paradise?

Another beautiful parallel is Ibrâheem 'alayhi'l-salām (peace be upon him) complying to slaughter his son without hesitation, and then the Children of Israel stubbornly refusing to slaughter a cow of their choosing. Does this parallel not teach the alert heart that it's not about the command, but rather about Who is commanding? Does it not stress that ultimately, every sacrifice is just details, and it's the surrender of the hearts (and consequently the limbs) that defines the slave?

10. Noticing Repetition

While keeping in mind that redundancy is inconsistent with eloquence. So when a term/theme keeps surfacing, teach yourself to investigate after this red flag.

For instance, we find the shirt of Yousuf 'alayhi'l-salām (peace be upon him) surfacing in his story repeatedly, and we find the command to have “taqwa” repeated twice in the same verse (59:18). Similarly, we find the Most High saying in in Surat an-Nisa', “O Believers! Believe…” [4:136] Don't let that pass unquestioned, nor be satisfied with a superficial overview of the meaning here.

11. Be Truthful with Allah

In wanting to understand His message to you, by purifying that heart which is the receptacle of the Qur'an, and by asking Him to open the gates of mercy for you through His Book.

Regarding the statement of the Prophet ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him), “Indeed, the angels do not enter a house containing a dog or image,” [Agreed Upon] Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah bestow mercy upon him) said, “If the angels – who are created beings – are prevented from entering a house by dogs and images, then how could knowing Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He), loving Him, the sweetness of remembering Him, and the comfort of being near to Him, enter a heart that is filled with the dogs of desires and their images?” [Madarij as-Salikeen: 2/388]

May the salutations and peace of Allah be upon His final Messenger, Muhammad, his family, his Companions, and all those who tread his path. And all praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds

@Tehn
The right thing to do is hand the money over to his family IF it was donated in the name of DJdola.

It would be wrong to raise money for one cause and use it for another. He is dead now and the normal inheritance rules do not indicate that what was raised for his benefit be handed to outsiders.

If you worry about what his family will do with the money, you may end up soiling your organization's reputation. We cannot be the evaluator and judge of that.
I also do not think returning to donors is realistic. For future drives, you may want to use a proactive fundraiser approach to have a purse to draw from when need arises OR when you take up a case and put someone's name out there, either have a stated amount you are raising for the individual OR let donors know that some of the money will be used to fund TEHN's other operations.

No matter how "huge" we feel this money is, let us be cautious and not delay in doing the right thing. Let us be cautious again and not rub salt into injury as all that money cannot bring DJDOLA back.

You set out with a good intention, May God help us all to be just and fair. Ameen
