badtsharpguy:Although I'm yet to get my trv, but from my experience with other embassies, it is not unusual for the embassy to first contact you. You got that mail because your visa has been granted. Your documents is still with them, but soon would be sent to VFS, it is after then, that vfs will contact you to come for your documents......if I were you, I would start making preparations for flight and accommodation. But you can still ask the elders who have gotten their TRVs sha..... |
badtsharpguy:Are you kidding me?? Look at this man?? You dont knw what it means when they say something has been approved? I'm sure you do......you've just been tooo scared that you don't believe it is true. CONGRATULATIONS OGA!!! |
Haustraliah:You know some people stay so far away from Lagos, Abuja or PH. So you can imagine the number of times they would have to travel to Lagos, putting to consideration the dead traps we call roads. In addition, medical reports last for a year according to CIC. But if their reasons for the upfront is to fast track their applications, then it's a complete waste of time.....and increases tension the more. The two weeks silent period before I was called for medicals was really killing.....the medical call gave some relief and hope......so can't now imagine going for 6 weeks or more without anything....... kai! Canada high commission no dey try honestly!!! |
AriseOCompatrot:My pleasure |
Pmiller1:Thank u |

Try opening on a system with office 07 upwards. It's a word document. If however you still cannot open it, then I can drop it in ur mail box, if you don't mind. |
chrisviral:I understand you quite well, so no offense taken! You definitely wouldn't have said that if some fools haven't been doing it (I mean scamming people). At the same time, I don't think it's wrong to offer a helping hand. I took my time to explain what I was told, so she could go to the nearest immigration office to her (and not necessarily call my contact). In addition, I stressed how much I trust my contact, but yet told her not to make any payment blindly, without seeing the person. If I knew someone that could help in Abuja, of course I would have directed her there, but unfortunately I don't. So you may as well help her by contacting your person that corrected his own in Abuja, if perhaps, he could link her up. But like I said earlier, no offense taken, the bad folks have spoilt the good ones. So please, you don't have to call that person, just take ur passport to the nearest high court to you, swear affidavit to the wrong name (you may have to go with your dad, since he made the mistake. Just to testify), then go with your passport and the affidavit to the nearest immigration office to you. I believe I've been able to clear the air. Good luck to everyone here |

I think inlaw is cool, but I would have claimed uncle or aunt. You know, you have to convince the V.O without doubt why the person is sponsoring you. So the sponsor must have a close tie to you.....and I think the closest ties is family, except scholarships.....which is another topic on it's own. But for inlaw, I'm not sure it's a bad idea. So I'm attaching a sponsorship letter sample. |
senarthor:Not certain, but he should put a mail across to the embassy (not vfs, but embassy) notifying them of the issue. But I will suggest he claim the account was hacked and closed rather than saying it was wrong (not sure if it matters though). Or better still let him quickly open a fresh account in that name (the one he submitted mistakenly), he might be lucky. |
Teds:Only you know the person is your church member, embassy doesn't. What you call the person is what they will assume the person is. So please I will advise you make that person your uncle or aunt, and the person has to claim you're his/her nephew or niece. From experience, family sponsorship is the best, dont worry about the name diff (surname), you uncle/aunt could be paternal or maternal......and there's no part of the form that requires mother's maiden name. So you're good I think! |

I am not sure though, but let me ask why the diff in name? Are you married? What's your gender? Did you change your name because you got married? If it is as a result of marriage, I don't think there should be issues. You may need to submit the newspaper page of your change of name and probably affidavit to back it . But if my guess is incorrect, then of course you will have to get to Abuja, but 250k is way too expensive. I will ask a brother that did the same thing some years ago for the cost and the contact person in Abuja. The major prob is, most of these immigration officers are exploiters. |
yetunde84:Wakanow is cool, I've used them for all my foreign trips. But I got a trick the last time, try booking late at night, between 12 and 5am, just try and stay awake and keep refreshing the page. This is because prices drop so ridiculously at night, and goes crazily high during the day, I gained close to 200k last time I tried it, although I booked pretty late, abt a week to my trip. Then if you're still skeptical about them, then no problem (I was also scared too), book on hold (you can do that online and it lasts for 48hrs or so), then rush to their office to make payment (either with cash or debit cards). I don't know all their offices in Lag, but if MM2 is close to you, then they have a stand inside the airport (local airport), else you can check their website for their other address(es). You can also check TripAdvisor (if you use a samsung phone or an android os phone), or check www.priceline.com, you can also check www.momondo.com, just be sure to compare prices before you make payments. Good luck |

Bao1004:I can think of 3 or 4 possibilities: 1. Probably your SoP wasn't packaged well or your references didn't do well. 2. Probably economics is too competitive in the schools to applied to. I also applied to University of Manitoba, but was denied admission. 3. Probably the schools you applied to are short of professors (or supervisors) on your specific interest in Economics. Or probably you applied to a research based course for which there was no prof to accept you. That happened to a friend of mine too. 4. Lastly, probably they had better students. By better, I don't mean CGPA, I mean Statement of Purpose, and the grades they had in the necessary prerequisites for your program. The good news is, there's a solution for all the probabilities, if you don't give up. We all have one or two challenges before finally getting to where we are now..... work more on your SoP, don't think of a complex aspect of economics, think of a simple but reasonable aspect of it. Don't impress them by choosing a program they won't get supervisor for. Ensure your referees give a good report, and they must not declare any family ties with you. I used my pastor and supervisor as my referees. Like I suggested earlier, try Memorial University of Newfoundland, not sure their economics is as competitive as some other schools and lastly, pray!!! |
Omonjoe:From experience, don't try to impress the V.O by quoting high figures, just calculate a realistic minimum amount required for ur tuition, books and supplies, accommodation and feeding, with miscellaneous expenses too. If possible you can design a budget for each year, and breakdown the huge money your sponsor will be giving you yearly and include such budget in your application. So your sponsor would make reference to that budget in his sponsorship letter. Eg "to further evidence my sponsorship claims for MR Kumo, I'm attaching my personal up to date statement of account and an annual budget for a period of 4 years....." night don do abeg, my head don dey shutdown! But I hope u undy my point. I made a similar mistake last year when going to the UK, I wanted to impress the V.O, so I quoted a huge sum, unfortunately my statement didn't cover the said amount, so I was refused visa. I reapplied, but cut down the cost to the barest minimum, such that my sponsor's statement could conveniently cover it, and I was granted the visa. |

Just what I was saying. Abeg make I go check this site too sharp sharp! |
Bao1004:Maybe they dont like ur face lol. What was d reason given? What course did u study in undergrad? Try memorial (mun.ca). The school is good and economics is cheap there. |
TheBae:The thing is, their are many operators that are quite cheaper, but these agents dont deal with them. Eg I got lagos to St Johns for abt 404k (travelstarts.com) and d cheapest united airlines for abt 370k (kayak.com). Then I decided to check "my TripAdvisor" and I got for 290+k. So check on priceline.com too |
TheBae:Congrats When did you apply? What route? When did you do you medicals? When did you receive medical result? And lastly did you receive a mail dat it was approved or u've got ur passport? |
What's the condition? You must prove to the embassy you can meet the condition(s). I applied with a conditional admission letter too, but supported it with an evidence that I would meet the condition rolandy22: |
OyBosEnEmm:I'm going for fall (September) |
Gu2015:Chief, don't mind my question, did you get a mail from the embassy that you passed? Like how long does it take before they send such mails? |
Gu2015:You may check priceline.com, their prices is quite low. You can also use trip advisor, u may get the app on google play store |

rolandy22:It depends on your program, for Graduate programs, u can pay on semester basis, which is cool, except for programs with special tuition fees |
