President Muhammadu Buhari is once again, approaching the World Bank to obtain a loan of $30million for the purpose of building a Covid-19 vaccine plant in the country. President Buhari disclosed that his regime is currently in talks with the World Bank to obtain funds to be channelled towards building a vaccine plant in Nigeria. The President hopes that the vaccine plant which is to be built in collaboration with the Nigerian drug maker, May & Baker Nigeria Plc, would commence latest next year. Speaking through Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at the graduation ceremony of Senior Executive Course 43 participants of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, the President said: “Nigeria is in talks with the World Bank’s private lending arm and other lenders to raise about $30 million to help finance a vaccine plant – Biovaccines Nigeria Ltd, with 49 per cent of the company owned by the Nigerian government and the balance held by May & Baker Nigeria Plc. “Plans to begin construction of the plant in the first quarter of next year and it will initially be a ‘fill and finish,’ which means importing the raw materials for the vaccines and then packaging them for distribution. Full manufacturing is expected to follow.” Earlier this year, the Federal Government had approved a total of N10 billion to support the production of local vaccines. The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, had made this known in a statement where he said: “The Ministry of Finance has released N10 billion to support domestic vaccine production, while we are working to develop our own vaccines. “Nigeria is exploring options for licensed production in collaboration with recognised institutions. We are also exploring the option of local production of the vaccines in-country and have had discussions with a producer.” https://newsroundtheclock.com/world-bank-loan/

The Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina, says the Federal Government of Nigeria will only address areas of the #Endsars Panel that specifically concerns it. The Lagos Judicial Panel on Police Brutality submitted its report to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu last Monday and many Nigerians have been clamouring for the President to make a pronouncement on it but Adesina has clarified that the FG would only address the areas that concern it. “What would happen is that when the states come up with pronouncements on that panel report, which would then be of interest to the Federal Government. “When the reports come out, the ones that are Federal in nature will be considered. Some things would be Federal in nature, the Federal Government would tackle that but things that are state in nature, the state government will handle. “There is an Attorney General of the Federation who will advise and the needful would be done,” Adesina said. The presidential spokesperson, however, said he was not aware of some states that have completed their inquiry have so far submitted their reports to the Federal Government. “I am not quite sure of that, but I know that areas that would affect the Federal Government will be looked into by the Federal Government.” https://newsroundtheclock.com/adesina/

Veteran Nollywood actress, Eucharia Anunobi, has slammed her colleagues and other Nigerians who have been posting their account details on social media soliciting for funds, saying the act is evil. Some Nigerian celebrities like Kunle Remi, Mercy Eke, Pere Egbi, among others, had followed the trend set by singer Davido and started posting their account details on social media, especially Facebook, demanding money from their fans. However, Eucharia has criticised those posting their account details on social media to solicit funds from fans and friends, saying the act is not only evil but demeaning their status. Eucharia who was displeased with the trend, said those putting up account details are shameless and evil. Posting on her Instagram page on Sunday, the 56-year-old Eucharia wrote: “The love of money is said to be evil not money rather what is evil is doing anything shamelessly and negatively to get money “You are following a trend soliciting for money when that money is not to help the helpless, how gross! “Putting up your account numbers to get money when you’re not doing anything to help humanity is evil.” She also posted her warning on Youtube, asking her colleagues in the movie industry to desist from the act. https://newsroundtheclock.com/actress-eucharia-anunobi/

The National President of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) Yerima Shettima, has kicked against moves being made by prominent Igbo leaders to persuade President Muhammadu Buhari to release leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, from detention. Shettima who spoke at a press conference of the Arewa Youths in Kaduna on Saturday, warned the President and the Nigerian government against releasing Kanu, saying such a move would not only be dangerous for the continued existence of the country, but would further complicate the insecurity situation in the country. Shettima insisted that “allowing the fugitive Kanu to go unpunished would be harmful to Nigeria and the Federal Government.” Shettima was reacting to Buhari’s recent remarks that he would consider the IPOB leader’s release following a visit by some South-East leaders led by one time Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, to plead for Kanu’s release. Shettima who frowned at any suggestion of an unconditional release of Kanu, said doing so would undermine “the damage he has done to Nigeria and is not acceptable to Arewa Youths.” “There is the possibility of undermining the consequences of what this man, Nnamdi Kanu, did to the country and by implication, if he is allowed to go unpunished, it would be sending the wrong message. “Nobody in the history of this country has done more damage to this country since the civil war than this young man. “If at the end of the day, they allow him to go unpunished after what he has done, the implication is that nobody will ever commit any offence of this nature and be punished because everybody will always refer to him. “And this means that the constitution is automatically suspended in the country. This means that some people can just commit any crime at the expense of over 200 million Nigerians and get away with it. “Somebody can kill, pronounce killing and still get away with it; then what is the essence of condemning people to death for killing, murder when compared to what this man (Kanu) did? “This is just a way of undermining the laws of our land, and indirectly they are saying the government of the day can be easily influenced. This means, somebody can commit any offence and then come to Buhari or any other government after this and seek forgiveness. “Nnamdi Kanu, to the best of my knowledge, is not even remorseful; indirectly, it’s like the government is begging him to continue with what he’s doing, and he would go unpunished. https://newsroundtheclock.com/arewa-youths/

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has kicked against the removal of Nigeria from the list of countries with religious concern, insisting that there are still cases of religious intolerance in Nigeria. CAN, in a statement signed by its President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, on Sunday, questioned the rationale behind the United States’ removal of Nigeria from the concern list as, according to him, available statistic has shown that there are still threats to religious tolerance in most parts of the country. Nigeria was placed on the list alongside other countries during the regime of President Donald Trump in 2020 for engaging or tolerating “severe violations of religious freedom.” However, on Wednesday, November 17, the United States removed Nigeria from the list of religious freedom violators during the visit of US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. In the CAN statement, the body asked the US to disclose the statistics it relied on before taking the decision to remove Nigeria from the list of religious freedom violators. The Christian body noted that the US decision was at “variance with the reality on ground” and challenged the President Joe Biden’s administration to provide more information in order to clear the doubts on the matter. The CAN statement reads: “The US government did not contact us when they were listing Nigeria among the countries of ‘Particular Concern’ on religious freedom, neither did they seek our opinion before removing Nigeria from the list. “If they had done, we would have been able to compare the statistics, then and now, on the issue of freedom of religion in Nigeria. “All right-thinking people would continue to ask the US government to let the world know what has changed on the issue of religious freedom and persecution the Christians are facing between the time they placed the country in the list of ‘Countries of Particular Concern’ and now. “CAN, in particular, will like to know. This is because all the factors that put Nigeria on the CPC list for the first time in 2020 are still there. https://newsroundtheclock.com/can-says-there-threats-to-to-religion-in-nigeria/?fbclid=IwAR05GZqmQ-G4bybGN6-3xiKIRuph4MUBgrAA2N8Kfi2Nz60SGXzXWX4H48Y

Chairman of Innoson Group, Innocent Chukwuma, says he will soon be taking over Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB’s) assets as the debt owed him by the nears a capacity beyond them. Chukwuma said GTB, which has restructured into a subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO), owes him N32 billion, and its accruing 22 percent interest. The automaker had been in a court battle with the Miriam Onasanya-led bank, and requested the Federal High Court in Lagos to prevent GTB from restructuring into GTCO, but that didn’t stop the process. The Innoson boss had filed and won suits FHC/L/Cs/603/2006 and FHC/Cs/139/2012 but seven years later, Chukwuma claimed that the court had ordered he can take over GTB, but the lender dismissed his claim. But at a press conference with journalists on Thursday, the billionaire entrepreneur said he would no longer force the payment of his debt, stating that he’s going to wait until the debt becomes a financial burden on GTB. Chukwuma revealed the genesis of his confrontation with GTB started when the lender’s late founder, Olutayo Aderinokun, vacated his position, and a new MD took over. In his explanation, the carmaker said: “I was GTB’s best customer in the south-east when Tayo, the former MD, was alive. Because of this, they opened a branch in Nnewi. After Tayo, the new MD took over. I don’t even know him. I saw him for the first time last year.” Chukwuma alluded that the new MD began to play the tribal card, but he had been defeating the lender since their court tussle started. “They started fighting about tribe. I am not certain about this but I think the reason he (GTB MD) is fighting is because of tribe. I don’t know exactly what his problem is. “But finally, I have proved him wrong in everything. I have defeated him in all the courts we went to. The only thing left is for him to pay me what he owes me. “He was going to my account and taking money anyhow. I discovered it, took him to court and won. Up till now, he hasn’t paid and we have gone up to Supreme Court. Maybe he hasn’t paid because he wants Nigeria to change their law because of him. “The beauty of the whole thing is that the money is attracting the interest of 22 percent. So, I am waiting for the interest to be above their capacity so I can take over the bank. That is what I am waiting for. I am not disturbing them anymore. https://newsroundtheclock.com/gtb/

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has called on the United States of America to redesignate Nigeria as a country still high on religious intolerance. The group also urged the US to return Nigeria into its Countries of Particular Concern or CPC as there are still several violations of religious freedom in the nation. Reacting to the removal of Nigeria from the list of countries with the highest levels of religious violations, HURIWA, in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko titled, “Religious intolerance: HURIWA faults the US on delisting Nigeria under Buhari.” The human Rights Writers criticised the removal of Nigeria from the list, explaining that there was evidence of “tolerated, systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom.” In the statement, HURIWA said: “It was wrong for the United States to adopt this provocative and ignorant decision even when Christians of Northern Nigerian extraction are killed by Moslem Fulani armed militia supported by officials working inside the office of President Muhammadu Buhari.” The body also questioned the empirical facts utilized by the US in removing Nigeria from the list of worldwide violators of religious freedom. Nigeria’s economy grew more slowly in the third quarter of the year than it did in the second quarter, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) This was revealed by the Statistician-General of the Federation, Simon Harry, while briefing journalists in Abuja, the nation’s capital. According to Harry, from July to September, Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.03 percent but slower than the massive 5.01 percent GDP recorded in the previous quarter He also revealed that the aggregate GDP stood at 45.11 trillion in nominal terms, a 15.41 percent increase when compared to the same period in 2020. Harry, however, explained that the base effect of the negative economic growth recorded in Q2 and Q3 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to the growth in GDP in 2021. He added that the current growth trend can be sustained with strict adherence to safety measures effected to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and other variants of the disease. This is the fourth quarter of positive growth in the economy since the 2020 recession which was exacerbated by the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on Africa’s largest economy. Output had contracted by -6.10percent and -3.62percent in Q2 and Q3 of 2020 under the Covid pandemic. Part of the third quarter report showed that the nation recorded an average daily oil production of 1.57 million barrels per day (mbpd), lower than the daily average production of 1.67mbpd recorded in the same quarter of 2020 by 0.10mbpd and lower than the second quarter 2021 production volume of 1.61mbpd by 0.05mbpd. “Real growth of the oil sector was –10.73% (year-on-year) in Q3 2021, indicating an increase by 3.16% points relative to rate recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2020. Growth increased by 1.92% points when compared to Q2 2021 which was –12.65%. Quarter-on-Quarter, the oil sector recorded a growth rate of 12.05% in Q3 2021. “The Oil sector contributed 7.49% to total real GDP in Q3 2021, down from figures recorded in the corresponding period of 2020 and up compared to the preceding quarter, where it contributed 8.73% and 7.42% respectively,” the report added. For nonoil sector, the NBS revealed that the sector grew by 5.44% in real terms during the third quarter. “This rate was higher by 7.95% point compared to the rate recorded same quarter of 2020 and 1.30% point lower than the second quarter of 2021.” https://newsroundtheclock.com/nigerias-economy/

Former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has berated incumbent Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, saying his (Ganduje’s) incompetence and lack of leadership qualities are the reasons the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had been thrown into crisis. Shekarau made the accusations in an interview with BBC Hausa Service in Kano on Wednesday after a meeting with his supporters and party leaders loyal to his faction of the party, and the inauguration of his political house committee. Shekarau also accused the state APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, whom he said had abdicated his position and powers to Ganduje and his wife, Hajia Gwaggo, in running the affairs of the party. He added that Ganduje was running the party like it was his property and had sidelined major stakeholders including himself (Shekarau) as he never got invited for meetings or any critical party functions. “Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is the catalyst of the APC crisis in Kano with his incompetence and lack of leadership qualities. “He has hijacked the party’s machinery from the Chairman and is running the party like a family affair with his wife. “He is cause of the crisis in the APC and that is why we will not sit back and allow him to destroy the party,” Shekarau said. The former governor also said the dispute between his faction of the party and that of Ganduje was before the APC National Dispute Resolution Committee chaired by Abdullahi Adamu... https://newsroundtheclock.com/shekarau-accuses-ganduje-of-incompetemce/

Human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure that sanctions are meted out those responsible for the death of #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, 2020. The fiery lawyer also urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to ensure that justice is served over the prosecution of military personnel responsible for the shooting to harmless youths who were only protesting against police brutality in the country. Falana made the call on Thursday in an interview on Channels TV’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ programme monitored by News Round The Clock. Falana was reacting to the submission of the report on the #EndSARS protests by the Lagos Judicial Panel to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The events of the #EndSARS protests had snowballed into violence and massacre of the innocent protesters when the Nigerian Army dispatched some of its officers to the Lekki Toll Gate which resulted in the deaths of many innocent protesters after several gunshots were fired. However, the Federal Government, through the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, and the military authorities had repeatedly denied these deaths further enraging the citizenry. In his statement during the interview, Falana warned the Government to expedite action over the prosecution of the culprits while noting that the International Criminal Court will take over the case if it is left unresolved. “It is not the Army’s business to go to Lekki, Ambulances turned up and you turned them away; that was premeditated. “These officials must be sanctioned because the ICC is watching. Under its statutes, the ICC will intervene if the FG refuses to prosecute the culprits. If recommendations are being made towards the prosecution and they are not, that is not the end of the matter. “The panel said the culprits have to be brought to book; the panel said Nigerians must be allowed to express themselves. “No President can behave in an isolated form with the mentality of ‘it is an internal affair.’” “The FG is expected to work with the state government to bring to book those involved in the killings of protesters, victims of police brutality. The report also recommended that October 20 must be a memorial day and to apologise to the youth for events of the day. https://newsroundtheclock.com/falana-calls-for-sanctions-over-endsars-report/

The Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CENCPC) chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mai Mala Buni, and the Senator representing Zamfara Central, Kabiru Marafa, have been engaging in a war of words following a crisis in the Zamfara State chapter of the party. Marafa, who addressed journalists in Gusau on Sunday, described the APC congress as an exercise in futility, adding that he was prepared to challenge the legality of all actions taken by the Buni-led caretaker committee since inception. “I have the responsibility to be a good son which I have been in the APC but when the father or the mother wants to sniff life out of me I have a right to defend myself. “If there is going to be an implosion that will tear APC apart… they have already torn us apart so good luck it is their cup of tea,” Marafa said. He also claimed that the party leadership failed to give the requisite notice on the congress to all parties involved in the state. “This confirms to us that the Mai Mala-led APC, as it is today, is on a mission to destroy APC. “But we don’t care; they have a right to destroy APC. But in Zamfara, we have interested parties and it is our state and we are not ready to destroy our own house and anybody desirous of doing so we have a right to say no. “Now, notice is very key. Section 85 of the electoral act made it mandatory. It says ‘INEC must be given a notice of 21 days.’ “I don’t know where Mai Mala got this thing. But I’m not surprised because he didn’t go to school. I goggled everywhere and I didn’t see the primary or secondary school he attended. https://newsroundtheclock.com/apc-2/

The Director-General of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), Salihu Lukman, says the amendment of the Electoral Act which forced political parties to adopt direct primaries will create room for manipulations by political parties. Lukman, in a statement Saturday, stressed that all grey areas on the matter must be eliminated in order to entrench democratic ideals as it was at best, vague. He said the amended Electoral Act did not address some grey areas on the country’s electoral process. The amended Electoral Act which was passed by the National Assembly last week has been forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent. The bill, when signed into law, is expected to address all anomalies associated with the indirect primary method of selecting party candidates for elective offices. Nonetheless, the PGF DG argued that the amendment does not redress the political parties’ management of their membership registration which was essential for a credible direct primary to take place. “For instance, the only thing that exists as means of identification of party members is an ordinary piece of paper and records of members exist only in hard copies available perhaps to only Ward officials and National Secretariat of the party. “It leaves much room for manipulation and extraneous practices. “Beyond the sentiments in favour of direct primary, therefore, there is the need to properly outline a clear administrative framework under the law. “This will guide the process and guarantee that all the bad practices associated with the indirect method of electing party candidates are eliminated,” Lukman said. He insisted that the clamour for direct primaries was borne out of the disaffection by some stakeholders over the methods adopted by their parties on the choice of candidates for elections. Focus more on what you can control so that you do not feel bad every time. Fill your life with positive words Positive words have power over our lives and it is paramount that we harness them effectively. In a bid to avoid negative thoughts, you must fill your life with positive words. You cannot live your life on empty thoughts. It has to be either positive or negative. Hence, you should fill your life with positive words to boost your self-esteem. Constantly tell yourself that you are beautiful inside out and capable of doing great works. Whenever you fail, pick yourself up and continue your race. Remember, your words are very powerful. A United States-based non-profit organisation, Global Advocates for Terrorism Eradication (GATE), on Friday urged President Joe Biden to designate President Muhammadu Buhari, former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai and some officials of the Nigerian government as sponsors of terrorism in the country. Also listed in the petition are former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, the Director-General of Department of State Services, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, his Information and Culture counterpart, Lai Mohammed and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami. In a 26-page petition signed by GATE’s Principal Advocate, Robert Berry, and addressed to the US Secretary of State, Anthony J. Blinken, the group described the killings in several parts of the country as state-sponsored terrorism.” It also alleged that the Nigerian government officials were “sponsoring terrorism by carrying out terrorist activities including training, funding, financing, and recruitment of terrorists using their offices as a safe haven, transit and operational base for terrorists.” The petition read: “The Nigerian government officials have deployed the instrumentality of power and are using the veil of sovereignty in knowingly consenting and with malicious intent allowing and promoting the use of Nigeria as a breeding ground and recruitment nursery for international terrorism activities contrary to foreign relations authorizations act fiscal years 1988 and 1989 (P.L.100 to 204:22 U.S.C 2656f), as amended. “The current Nigerian Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari is executing a global Jihadist agenda that is comparable, if not more insidious, than that of the Taliban’s of Afghanistan. The Senate has again approved President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to borrow $16,230,077,718 and €1,020,000,000 from multilateral lenders to fund its legacy projects. The President had in September requested the loans as part of the 2018-2020 borrowing plan. The Senate’s approval of the loans followed the consideration of the report of its Committee on Local and Foreign Debts headed by Senator Clifford Ordia. The Red Chamber also approved grant components of $125 million. The Senate asked President Buhari to forward the terms and conditions of the loans from the funding agencies to the National Assembly. In his presentation, Ordia said the projects for which funds are requested in the 2018-2020 borrowing plan are ongoing. The projects, according to him, will stimulate a rebirth of commercial and engineering activities, and the consequent tax revenues payable to the government as a result of the activities will increase. He said: “It will be recalled that the Senate at plenary in July 2021 approved financing for projects as recommended by the Committee above whilst the Committee continued further legislative action and consideration of the outstanding request. There was palpable relief behind the congratulatory messages sent to the Anambra State Governor-Elect, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, in the aftermath of just-concluded governorship elections despite the uncertainties that trailed its conduct, chiefly due to the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the general insecurity being experienced in the region. At the end of the supplementary Ihiala election, Soludo polled 8,283 votes, with a margin of over 5,000 votes to defeat his closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In total, Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), scored a total of 112,229 votes to defeat his two major rivals, Ozigbo, who got 53,807 votes, and Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who managed to secure 43,285 votes. Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came distant fourth with 21,261 votes. Soludo, the governor-elect, won in 19 LGAs out of the 21 LGAs in Anambra, while Ozigbo and Ifeanyi Ubah won in one LGA each. Andy Ubah did not win any LGA. It is cogent to analyse the winners and losers of this election with respect to its ramifications for the political landscape in the state, region and the country, at large. THE WINNERS Anambra State The South-Eastern state is the major winner in the wake of the elections due to initial apprehension within the polity over whether the polls will come to fruition. In the run-up to the election, the candidates had to campaign away from the state due to the stay-at-home mandate issued by the IPOB and the twin threat of general insecurity posed by the ubiquitous ‘unknown gunmen,’ but the intervention of various stakeholders and the neutrality and non-interference of the Federal Government in the politicking of the state ensured a peaceful process which, in the long run, augured well for future polls in the region and the rest of the country. Chukwuma Soludo It was third time lucky for the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo, after previously vying unsuccessfully for the governorship position twice in the past. In 2010, Soludo had contested the election on the platform of the PDP, but he came third as Peter Obi, then of APGA, won the election. On 17 July, 2013, Soludo resigned from the People’s Democratic Party after writing a letter to the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. He later joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in preparation for the November 2013 governorship race. In mid-August 2013, he, along with five other qualified aspirants, was disqualified by the APGA Screening Committee. His 2021 victory was riddled with challenges after a series of legal battles on his nomination and leadership of the party. It took the intervention of the Appeal Court and the affirmation of the Supreme Court before the electoral commission included Soludo’s name in the candidates’ list. APGA APGA is another entity that came out as a big winner in the Anambra governorship election, with the poll being a litmus test of its credentials and popularity amongst the people in Anambra and the South-East region. Political observers had postulated on the unpredictability of the various candidates due to their individual profiles but APGA surpassed all expectations with victory in all but two Local Government Areas in the state which further cemented its stranglehold on the state. The next step for the party would be to spread its tentacles to other states in the region, considering the fact that Anambra is the only APGA-led state in the region and this victory is the perfect launchpad for that mandate Willie Obiano Obiano, the outgoing governor of the state, has succeeded in ensuring that his party retained the governorship seat of the state. He also solidified his base by bringing to power a candidate he anointed in the election, which would serve him well in his future political endeavour. THE LOSERS Andy Ubah The APC candidate must be cursing his luck as he has lost another governorship election after a previous loss in 2007. Back in 2007, Ubah was ”elected” as the governor of Anambra State on the platform of the PDP, but he was removed by the Supreme Court, a few weeks after he was sworn in as governor. His removal was effected after a suit filed by Peter Obi who noted that his tenure was not over as the governor of the state before INEC conducted the 2007 governorship election since he was initially recognised by the court as governor in 2006 in an election conducted in 2003. In 2010, Ubah again contested for the governorship seat on the platform of the Labour Party but lost to Obi. Will this be the end of Ubaj in the politics of Anambra? Only time will tell. Sen. Opeyemi Bamidela (APC-Ekiti), who seconded the motion, said the motion represented the collective desire of all parliamentarians in ensuring that government takes appropriate action to bring those culpable to justice. The Nigerian Senate has approved the report of the conference committee on the amendment bill of the Electoral Act. During plenary on Tuesday, the Senate also approved that all political parties must now use the direct primary mode in picking candidates. This followed the adoption of a motion moved by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, at the plenary. The Senate and House of Representatives had, in July, passed different versions of the document. In its submission, the upper legislative chamber proposed either direct or indirect party primary while the House of Representatives made direct primary compulsory for all parties. During the debate, the Senate also empowered the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to determine whether the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can proceed with the plan electronic transmission of election results. But the lower legislative chamber did not confer the Commission with such powers. The Senate provisions had irked Nigerians, leading to the formation of the conference committee to address the anomalies. A group under the aegis of Akwa Ibom Oil Producing Community Network (AKPICON), says the Federal Government of Nigeria should be held accountable if anything happens to Justice Mary Odili. The group gave the warning following a recent invasion of Justice Odili’s residence by some armed persons suspected to be security operatives representing different agencies of government, on Friday, October 29, 2021. In a statement signed by the President General of the human rights group, Dr. Ufot Phenson, the group said the operatives that stormed the residence of Justice Odili had the intention to kill and maim their target under the guise of undertaking a search whose warrant was questionable and baseless. The group, therefore, described the raid not only as being barbaric and uncivilised but a violation of Justice Odili’s right to privacy and therefore highly condemnable. While berating the Federal Government and security agencies for the brute manner in which the raid was conducted, Dr. Phenson called for a thorough investigation into the incident with a view to bringing the culprits to book. He added that Nigeria is not a ‘banana republic’ where people, individuals and organisations take the laws into their hands and go away scot-free...
