Premier League football action returns this weekend after an exciting opening week in Europe, with mouthwatering matches lineup for the delight of soccer fans around the world. As usual, News Round The Clock brings you a preview of the matches to look forward, with the star match unarguably the derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, Nuno Espirito Santo’s lines up his boys for his London derby. Newcastle United vs Leeds A 4-1 loss at Manchester United leaves Newcastle one point and one place off the foot of the table. They lost both meetings with Leeds last season, but may feel confident of putting a first win on the board on Friday night. Newcastle’s confidence is further boosted by the fact that Leeds themselves have not fared any better in the season. Like Newcastle, Leeds have also made a poor start to the campaign, with the Whites picking just two points from a possible 12 in their first four match. Newcastle have however have conceded more league goals than Leeds, 12 to 11 this season. Both sides have endured their opening round struggles, but Leeds will be backed to secure that first win of the campaign in what may be a repeat of last season’s result at St. James’ Park. Prediction: 1-2 Wolves vs Brentford Wolves finally earned their first win of the season at Watford last time, and crucially scored their first goal of the campaign. They’ll aim to use that victory as a springboard when they take on Brentford, another promoted side on Saturday. Brentford are on a three-match winless run after their opening night 2-0 win over Arsenal. That said, a narrow 1-0 loss to Brighton was their first league defeat of the campaign, so alarm bells won’t be ringing for the west London side just yet. Now that Wolves have finally scored their first goal of the season, they will be boosted and with home advantage, too, Bruno Lage should oversee a second successive league win. Prediction: 2-1 Burnley vs Arsenal Burnley were blitzed by Everton at Goodison Park on Monday night, falling to a 3-1 loss on Merseyside after taking the lead against Rafa Benitez’s men. The Clarets have started the season poorly, picking up one point from their opening four matches. After three successive defeats to kick off the season, Arsenal secured their first league victory at Norwich’s expense on Saturday. The Gunners have failed to win their last two trips to Turf Moor, however Burnley won’t make things easy for Arsenal on Saturday afternoon and a third successive draw between the pair at Turf Moor is possible. Prediction: 1-1 Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Liverpool were pushed all the way by AC Milan in the Champions League in midweek but edged a five-goal thriller. They have won four of their first five games this season. Crystal Palace will be full of confidence after beating London rivals Tottenham 3-0 last time out. Unfortunately, however, they’ve lost eight in a row against Liverpool. Prediction: 3-0 Manchester City vs Southampton Manchester City ran out 6-3 winners over RB Leipzig in midweek. Pep Guardiola’s side have now scored 5+ goals in three of their last four matches. Not bad for a team that didn’t sign a striker in the summer. Southampton held West Ham to a 0-0 draw last weekend, meaning they have now drawn three successive matches in the Premier League. They have lost their last five matches away to City. Prediction: 2-0 Norwich vs Watford Norwich sit bottom of the Premier League after losing their opening four league matches. The Canaries have also lost their last two home league meetings with Watford, which is hardly a good omen. After a 3-2 win over Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the season, Watford have lost their last three, failing to score in all three defeats. They’ll hope a trip to a fellow promoted side is the perfect place to secure a second win of 2021/22. The duo have struggled in the opening weeks of the season and they may cancel one another out at Carrow Road on Saturday. Prediction: 1-1 Aston Villa vs Everton After a relatively torrid run of results against Everton, Aston Villa are now unbeaten in four against the Toffees and knows that a result here is important if they are to avoid slipping towards the relegation zone. Everton have made an unbeaten start under Rafa Benitez and while their summer window was largely scoffed at, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray have both proven to be extremely shrewd signings so far. The hosts have something close to their strongest squad available for the first time and will hope that home advantage proves decisive, but a share of the spoils looks likely. Prediction: 2-2 Brighton & Holve Albion vs Leicester City Brighton have three wins from their first four matches, whereas Leicester have won two and have lost two in the Premier League. Leicester will be kicking themselves after spurning a two-goal lead against Napoli on Thursday only to draw 2-2. Leicester remarkably rank bottom in the Premier League for key passes per game this season and could be set for another frustrating game here. Prediction: 1-1 West Ham vs Manchester United West Ham will be full of confidence after their 2-0 win away to Dinamo Zagreb to open their Europa League campaign. David Moyes fielded a stronger side than expected, however, the big question now is how his players deal with a Thursday-Sunday schedule they aren’t used to. Manchester United, on the other hand, suffered an embarrassing 2-1 defeat away to Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under scrutiny for his tactics in the defeat. They have only really played well in patches this season, so there is definitely a reason to believe West Ham can get a result even without star striker Michail Antonio who is out due to a red card he picked up last weekend. Prediction: 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Tottenham saw their 100% start to the league season come to an abrupt end at Crystal Palace on Saturday when they were thumped 3-0. A second successive London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium should provide plenty of motivation for Spurs, however. Chelsea maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 1-0 win over Zenit having secured a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday evening. The Blues are unbeaten in their last three trips across the capital. They won the last two league meetings between the pair on Spurs’ turf. That record may continue on Sunday afternoon. Prediction: 0-2 read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/premier-league-week-5-preview/

The Taliban have shut down the Ministry of Women Affairs in Afghanistan on Friday, in a move seen by many as further clamping down on women rights. They have, however, replaced the disbanded ministry with a venomous vice department notorious for enforcing strict religious doctrine during their first rule two decades ago. Workers were seen raising a sign for the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice at the old Women’s Affairs building in the capital. Several posts have appeared on Twitter in the last 24 hours showing women workers from the ministry protesting outside the building, saying they had lost their jobs. However, no official from the Taliban had made any statements either to confirm or to deny the story. Despite insisting they will rule more moderately this time around, the Taliban have not allowed women to return to work and introduced rules for what they can wear at university. The new Taliban government announced two weeks ago had no women members or even a ministry to represent their interests. Although still marginalised, Afghan women have fought for and gained basic rights in the past 20 years, becoming lawmakers, judges, pilots and police officers. Hundreds of thousands have entered the workforce, a necessity in some cases, as many women were widowed or now support invalid husbands as a result of two decades of conflict. But since returning to power on August 15, the Taliban have shown no inclination to honour those rights. When pressed, Taliban officials say women have been told to stay at home for their own security but will be allowed to work once proper segregation can be implemented. During the Taliban’s first rule from 1996 to 2001, women were largely excluded from public life, including being banned from leaving their homes unless accompanied by a male relative. Enforcers from the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice were known to descend on women found walking alone. They were also responsible for strictly implementing other hardline interpretations of Islam, such as compulsory attendance at prayers, and no trimming of beards for men. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/taliban-shuts-women-ministry/

Al-Barnawi, the once dreaded leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), has been reportedly killed in a gun battle with security forces in Borno State, multiple reports say. The terrorist warlord was allegedly killed in the last week of August, shortly after former boss and erstwhile leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, was killed by the ISWAP group. Al-Barnawi, who was placed on the most wanted list of terrorists by the Nigerian Army and some international anti-terrorism agencies, was the son of the late Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf, who was also killed by security forces in 2009 when he launched a war against the Nigerian state. After his father’s death, Al-Barnawi became the group’s leader but soon fell out with Shekau and in 2016, the Islamic State (IS) militant group announced Al-Barnawi as the leader of its West African affiliate, Boko Haram, which was hitherto led by Shekau. Al-Barnawi then became a vicious terrorist, leading sustained attacks on military facilities and troops in the Lake Chad region, while at the same time strategising on how to subdue Shekau. It was reported at various times that ISIS partly chose Al-Barnawi as leader in the Lake Chad region in order to punish Shekau who reportedly “violated all known norms” and to also retain the confidence of Boko Haram fighters who were loyal to his father, Yusuf, amid threats from other factional groups. Al-Barnawi was also said to have been trained by ISIS for years ahead of his ascension to power. He controlled large chunks of territory in Northern Borno, imposed taxes on the local population and earned serious income from fishing, asides from the financial and material support he got from ISIS. Al-Barnawi’s fighters had also destroyed many military super camps in Dikwa, Monguno, Abadam and Marte in Borno, and other military facilities around Geidam in Yobe State. During his reign of terror, Al-Barnawi established many cells on the Lake Chad islands and surrounding villages from where his fighters launched attacks on Nigeria, Niger and Chad. There are, however, two versions of the story of Al-Barnawi’s death, with one saying he was killed by Nigerian troops and the other version saying he died during a rival war within the ISWAP camp. The first version has it that security operatives in the theatre of operation killed him alongside five top ISWAP leaders and many foot terrorists in an ambush around Bula Yobe, a community near the Borno/Yobe states border along Mobbar and Abadam axis that leads to the Lake Chad area. The second version say he was killed in a leadership tussle between his group and another faction of terrorists from Central Africa that wanted to overthrow. The military high command in Nigeria, has, however, neither confirmed nor denied the killing of Al-Barnawi because of the sensitivity of the issues involved. The Director, Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Benjamin Sawyer, was also not forthcoming when asked to either confirm or deny the story. “If there is a problem in their (Boko Haram) camp, how will I know? We normally have a fortnightly brief on operations. “If ISWAP or BHTs are fighting among themselves, it is the media that always gives the entire nation the information. It is not us, because we are not in their camps,” he was quoted as saying. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/al-barnawi/?fbclid=IwAR2BCoiQUl8KvzXQCPmoov4ugOnC58mhpj4EaDBxFG6xpuY4wy5bhN6arlY

Instagram has deleted the account of Big Brother Naija Season 6 housemate, Whitemoney. Before the account was deleted, the Housemate had about 600,000 followers on that platform. Though the reason for the deletion of the account was not given by the social media platform, the action comes days after he was made the Head of House in the competition. Before the photo sharing platform decided to delete Whitemoney’s account, there were wide speculations that people who are against his incredible rise to fame were the ones that reported the page to Instagram. The ‘account disable policy’ of Instagram, says: “We disable accounts that have a certain percentage of violating content. We are now rolling out a new policy where, in addition to removing accounts with a certain percentage of violating content, we will also remove accounts with a certain number of violations within a window of time. “Similarly to how policies are enforced on Facebook, this change will allow us to enforce our policies more consistently and hold people accountable for what they post on Instagram.” Nevertheless, a new backup account has been created for the reality show contestant. Presently, the account has about 70, 000 followers. Being the Head of House for this week, Whitemoney has some advantage over other housemates. Besides the Lounge benefits, he also has immunity of eviction. Other housemates who are up for possible eviction on Sunday are Cross, Angel, Emmanuel, Saskay, and Yousef. Reactions to Instagram deleting Whitemoney’s account Following the action of Instagram, Whitemoney’s fans have taken to social media to air their views. Read some of the reactions here: Eve Adokwun: ‘’I don’t care about Instagram. All I care for is my Whitemoney. Besides, he and the Biggie show don’t come from Instagram.’’ Ezugwu Onyebuchim commented: ‘’Their hatred and hatred is just for your high glory which they think they can temper with. But it will surely end in praises. The more they trouble you, the more you excel bro. Be their Joseph.’’ Mhiz Eno posted: ’’Wetin this child of Grace come do these people now? Whether deleted or not, it won’t stop the massive support and love he has. You guys can never fight grace.’’ read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/instagram-deletes-whitemoneys-account/

David Cho Yong-gi, the founder of South Korea’s largest churches which is also the world’s biggest megachurches, , has died at the age of 85. According to a news release by the church, Yoido Full Gospel Church, David Cho Yong-gi died on Tuesday morning in Seoul, following a long battle with brain hemorrhage he suffered in June, 2020. David Cho Yong-gi founded the Yoido Full Gospel Church in 1958, which grew to be among the world’s largest churches with more than 480,000 attendees per week, according to Leadership Network, an international organization of church leaders. Also Read: The church has more than 500 branches across South Korea, Europe, Americas and Asia, and has sent thousands of missionaries to different countries over the years, according to the church’s news release. The late cleric himself had participated in religious rallies and movements in 71 countries, the release noted. Born in 1936, Yong-gi lived through the Korean War, during which he served as an interpreter between his school principal and the US military commander. In his second year of high school, David Cho Yong-gi was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis and told he would not live much longer. Also Read: Pantami Must Go: A Case of Religious Extremism During this time, he turned to Christianity, a decision he would later credit with his “miraculous” recovery, according to the church. His recovery prompted him to enroll in the Full Gospel Theological Seminary, and he established the Yoido church after graduating. The church began as just five members gathered under a tent in Seoul, according to the church’s website. Yoido became perhaps Korea’s best-known representative, boasting more than 700,000 members by 1993, with the numbers skyrocketing as the church went international. The church expanded to include a giant mountainside retreat in South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province and a Christian university Yong-gi founded in California. Within South Korea, Cho became a hugely influential figure; he founded a Christian daily newspaper, established a humanitarian NGO, and wrote several books. But he was also frequently the subject of controversy and scandal. In 2014, he was found guilty of embezzling $14 million in church donations to buy stocks owned by his son, at four times their market value. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/david-cho-yong-gi/?fbclid=IwAR0t6L6d4lPLNddy06pvJHQ-euGMKIbLHaoEQDHKA0hppsRh9vvCB4EsZE4

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, has been named the patron of Nigeria’s first sexual assault referral center, The Mirabel Center, based in Lagos. The 74-year-old Duchess, who has been a longtime campaigner against domestic abuse and sexual violence, said she was “delighted to become Patron of the Mirabel Center in Lagos,” which was founded in 2013 to support survivors of sexual assault. “It is a truly trailblazing organization, supporting survivors of rape and sexual assault as they seek healing and justice. “Their vital work means that women need no longer suffer in silence and I am deeply grateful to all Mirabel’s wonderful staff and volunteers,” she said in her acceptance speech. The Duchess will be working directly with Nigerian and British-Nigerian women to find ways to help the Mirabel Centre over the coming months, her spokesperson, Clarence House said. The center’s founder, Itoro Eze-Anaba, while commending the Duchess for accepting the role, said the Mirabel Center provides free medical and psychosocial support services to survivors of sexual violence and has assisted over 6,000 people since it started eight years ago. She added that the youngest survivor they have helped was a 3-month-old baby and the oldest, an 80-year-old woman. Eze-Anaba said that having the Duchess as patron will, among other things, enable the organization to boost the work it does for survivors of sexual violence, who are often too afraid to speak out. “It will raise awareness about the center, and the issue of rape in Nigeria. When we started in 2013, we were seeing between 20 to 30 clients in a month. Now, we see at least 70, sometimes more than 100 clients in a month. This means that more people are having the confidence to speak out. “Sexual violence in Nigeria is rampant but shrouded in secrecy because of the stigma that is associated with it,” Eze-Anaba said. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/duchess-of-cornwall/

On September 4, Olajide Sowore -the younger brother of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore was murdered by suspected herdsmen. According to reports, Olajide was traveling along the Lagos-Benin expressway when he met his death. Besides, five others were abducted by the herdsmen. The killing of Olajide Sowore, younger brother of activist and former presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, in the hands of kidnappers suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, will rank among the numerous victims of the criminal bandits. In the past few years, there have been attacks on innocent Nigerian citizens by the herdsmen who kill farmers, destroy their crops and other properties. However, they have extended their dastardly acts to travelers and residents in general. Despite the continuous complaints and the clamour for their activities to be curtailed by the security agencies, their murderous acts have not been curbed by the government. This has necessitated the efforts of the government to be questioned. The death of Sowore, who was a student of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, has drawn reactions from various persons in the country. The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, while commiserating with the Sowore family over the murder of their son, said that investigations are ongoing. “I commiserate with the Sowore family and the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, over the death of his brother, Olajide Sowore. The news of Olajide’s death is heartbreaking. We will make all efforts to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice. “On behalf of the people and Government of Edo State, I condole with the Sowore family and pray that God will grant all the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Obaseki said. Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar also sent his condolences to the family of the deceased. Consequently, he said he is saddened by the continuous killings of citizens across the country. Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also said: “I just received news of the reported killing of Mr Olajide Sowore, a student of Igbinedion University and the immediate younger brother of human rights activist, @YeleSowore. “His death, and indeed the killings and daily abductions of innocent citizens, saddens me. Every death diminishes our humanity. My sincere condolences to the Sowore family and his friends. May his soul rest in peace,” Abubakar tweeted. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/sowore-mourns-laments-fg-restriction-and-reactions/

BBN Shine Ya Eyes 2021 is gradually living up to expectation with the intrigues and maneuverings that has been going on as participants try to outwit one another. On Sunday, September 5, Hollywood actor, Boma Akpore and married upcoming actress, Tega Dominic, were evicted from the BBN Shine Ya Eyes House alongside Michael and Peace. It was the first ever Big Brother Naija King Size eviction show with the eviction of Boma and Tega getting the approval and applause of viewers. The wide range of approval was due to the immoral activities the two carried out inside the BBN House on national television, considering the fact that Tega is a married woman. Tega has since reconciled with her husband, Ajeboh Dominic, though. Ajebo on his part, had made headlines after he revealed during an interview that he fell into depression after he saw his wife rollicking with another man on TV. While Tega seems to have moved on from the controversy, Boma is still entangled in a war of his own trying to create a noble identity for himself. For the remaining competitors in the BBN House, the competition can only get more intense as they edge closer to the grand finale. The coming week will test the ability of housemates to be creative, original and most importantly, connect with the viewers. During the week, a couple of BBN housemates were exposed and called out on their inability to be creative and entertaining without depending on someone else. The days of hiding behind the numerous massive number of contestants has come to an end; it is time to stand alone and give the audience content. Here are five interesting things that played out in the BBN Shine Ya Eyes House in the past one week: 1. Queen ready to fight for Whitemoney’s love, says she is jealous of his friendship with Jackie B Jackie B had to move on from the eviction of her favourite housemate and love interest, Michael, who was surprisingly evicted from the show on Sunday. Jackie B had to deal with his departure by finding solace in the arms of Whitemoney, the official ‘clown’ of the BBN House. While Jackie B was spending too much time with Whitemoney, someone was fuming. Queen who has divulged her admiration for Whitemoney, could not condone the in-house chef’s friendship with Jackie B. So she decided to wage a war on Thursday, September 9. Queen approached Whitemoney on Wednesday night accusing him of not being loyal to her. According to her, Whitemoney’s emotional attachment with Jackie B will affect the friendship she’s trying to build. Disclosing that she’s a jealous person with her friends, Queen told Whitemoney to avoid her if he would not be loyal to her. “You are getting emotionally attached to Jackie B who I’m trying to create a friendship bond with. “You are doing this will not make my friendship work with her. You did this too with JMK and I tried to be cool with her, even though I knew you were getting close to her. “I expect a certain amount of loyalty in friendship and I feel you’re doing contrary to your actions. I’m very jealous when it comes to my friends or anyone I’m close to,” Queen said. 2. Nini pushes Saga away, says he is too clingy Nini gave her love interest, Saga, a piece of heart. She slammed him for always following her around. Nini told Saga that his attitude in the BBN House will make his father think he is stupid. She said: “Your dad would think you are stupid for following me around. He would be like this is not my son: what happened to him?” 3. Angel says the game is becoming boring, urges Biggie to ‘shake up’ the house During her BBN diary session on Friday, September 10, admonished Big Brother to prank the housemates because the show is becoming boring. She told Biggie to ‘shake up’ the house and make the housemates come out of their comfort zones. “The house has been boring, so all I’ve been doing is sleeping, doing tasks, going back to sleep, talking to my fish and that’s it. “The house is boring. We need something to shake up the house. Nothing is happening in the house and I’m bored. I’m lonely because it’s boring. Everything is boring.” 4. JayPaul gifts Saskay a flower as livid Cross predicts his love interest’s possible eviction On Wednesday night, JayPaul gifted Saskay a flower to disclose his sincere admiration for her. The action made the theme of the love triangle between JayPaul, Saskay and Cross more interesting. JayPaul acquired the flower for Saskay for N500 ‘Abeg Naira’ making things uneasy for Cross who is also in love with Saskay. And to make matters worse for him, Angel, Jackie B and Nini started applauding and hailing Jaypaul for the romantic gesture to Saskay. However, Whitemoney approached the stranded lover and consoled him by saying: “The Lord is your strength, take heart.” But he responded and said: “Wahala for who no dey up for eviction oh. Go and do something to ginger your people. E choke!” Cross is not up for possible eviction from the reality show this week. However, Saskay is; alongside Jaypaul, Whitemoney, Jackie B, Liquorose, Queen and Saga. 5. Housemates pay tribute to their evicted colleagues On Friday, September 10, the photographs of the other 13 housemates that have left the competition were hung up in the living room by the remaining BBN Shine Ya Eyes candidates. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/bbn-shine-ya-eyes/

Organisers of the Gulder Ultimate Search have picked Nollywood actor, Kunle Remi as the taskmaster for this edition. The Nigerian reality television show organisers decided to pick Remi who was the winner of the 7th edition of the show in 2010. The actor made the announcement via a video on his Instagram page. He captioned the video: “#GulderUltimateSearch is back and I’ll be your taskmaster. Are you ready to go on this journey with me? “Have you answered the call? Follow @thegulderultimatesearch and register now at www.gulderultimatesearch.ng.” It was gathered during the week that the registration website for the Gulder Ultimate Search reality TV show crashed due to the high volume of traffic of applicants. The development came barely five days after the organisers announced the return of the show. Officials confirmed that the cause of the crash was a “higher-than-expected level of traffic from prospective applicants who thronged the website to register for the show”. Gulder Ultimate Search which borders on the survival instincts of contestants, was launched in 2004 and ran for 11 seasons before going off-air in 2014. And that their first child did not belong to him after he conducted a DNA test on the child. Though Uzoamaka had refused to deny or accept the allegations at the initial stage. She finally changed her tune on Tuesday when she released a video confirming that the child in question does not belong to Nedu Wazobia even though she had him while they were married. In the interview, she talked about the things that led to the end of their marriage, while insisting that the DNA test was not the reason for their separation, but that they had several issues prior to that. Explaining how Nedu Wazobia conducted the test. She said he became insecure and felt that their last child wasn’t his, but was shocked to know that the first child wasn’t his. Uzoamaka who stated that she wasn’t seeking sympathy with the call out post she shared on Instagram, alleged that her ex-husband has a temper and became violent one year into their marriage. According to her, she had been trying for so long to reach out to him to sort out his daughters’ bills, but nothing has changed. Alleging that she got reports of Nedu Wazobia cheating on her both in his office from mutual friends, she narrated how he allegedly assaulted her in the presence of his mother after accusing her of putting something in his food after she underwent a CS. She further alleged that even though she tried to protect him over fear of him losing his endorsements, he filed a complaint against her, alleging that she’s the one assaulting him. On having another child while married to Nedu Wazobia, Uzoamaka said she was dating another person while the media personality pestered her for a romantic relationship. Uzoamaka claimed she found out that she was pregnant while they were together and if she knew her first child wasn’t his, she wouldn’t have gotten married to him. On allegations that he brother-in-law was responsible for the pregnancy, Uzoamaka denied the claims and threatened to sue one of Nedu Wazobia’s colleagues, Comedian Osama, for making the claims. She vehemently denied cheated on Nedu while married to him and also accused him of frustrating all the plans she had to work. On what led to the breakdown of their marriage, Uzoamaka said they had communication issues and Nedu Wazobia had a lot of distractions. Islamic cleric and avowed advocate for bandits’ amnesty, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has given reasons why the Nigerian military has been unable to track down bandits have over the years despite regular aerial bombardments of their hideouts. Gumi, in article on Friday, posited that the criminals have been able to perfect and developed different escape routes anytime the military attack their locations. In the article titled ‘War has never been a solution anytime, anywhere,’ Gumi said following the offensive by the military against bandits and their hideouts in the North, they have been able to carve out escape routes whenever such attacks occur. Also Read: Sheikh Gumi wants amnesty for bandits Gumi also warned that bandits will migrate to other parts of the country from any part that is on fire if the Nigerian government continued to use military might against them. “By the way, what you may not hear is that the bandits, over the years, have developed escape routes from aerial bombardments. They told us: you can only kill our women and children with your attacks! “Just yesterday, two contingents of banditry victims came to me that their loved ones were abducted by bandits in Kaduna suburbs – Rigachukun and Keke. “An escapee engineer in the later said when he overheard and understood that they were strangers in the area as they were calling the locals to lead them, that gave him the courage to slip through densely grown maize plantations to escape. “The point is that, if Zamfara is on fire for them, definitely it goes without saying that they will migrate to other areas. So, is the whole of Nigeria going to be under lock-up in incommunicado? “As for the economic impact of the areas now under siege, it’s just a matter of time, you’ll hear them crying out. “Already, yesterday a man from Tsafe came begging because of economic stagnation, one would have thought that Gusau the capital is closer than Kaduna to beg. “As for those cynics that have no value to add in the dilemma except vituperation, and abuses, we know that is the substance they are made up of. No qualms whatsoever! You don’t expect fragrance from faeces. “So, what is the solution? Good Intelligence! Good proficient policing, engagement of the local herdsmen in policing, rehabilitation, reconciliation, and reparation of all victims of banditry. “The good honest judiciary that protects people’s rights. Money and time well spent on these will surely kill the disease and heal the nation of this delinquency, crimes, and bad governance,” he wrote. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/bandits-have-secret-escape-routes-gumi/

Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem territories are gathering for a ‘Day of Rage’ protests on Friday, in support of six Palestinian prisoners who escaped from an Israeli prison. The rally was in response to calls by the leadership on Hamas and other Palestinian resistance groups to celebrate the heroic deeds of the prisoners who broke out of the Israeli maximum security facility earlier in the week. They are also protesting against the punitive measures that the Israeli jail authorities have imposed on imprisoned members of the Islamic Jihad, another group active in the Gaza Strip, in the wake of the brazen escape from one of the country’s most secure prisons. The six men had tunnelled out of the high-security Gilboa jail on Monday, triggering celebration and solidarity protests in the Palestinian territories. Several relatives of the escaped prisoners have been arrested, including three people on Friday morning, as part of an Israeli manhunt to capture them. Israeli forces were on their second-highest level of alert on Friday, after a state of emergency had been declared, and fully prepared for protests in the occupied Palestinian territories and possible riots within Israeli jails. Abdallah Abu Rahme, an activist from Bilin in the West Bank, who travelled to Beita in the north to take part in the protests, said: “It is our duty as Palestinians and activists to support the escaped prisoners. It is very good news that they escaped and we all support them.” Muhammad Khabeisa, who said he lost agricultural land to the illegal Israeli settlement of Evyatar in Beita, said his whole village backed the escaped prisoners. “The prisoners in Palestinian jails are longing for freedom. They want to live their lives. They are not ordinary criminals, but patriots fighting for freedom. “The Israelis have put Palestinians in prison with the occupation of their land. When the Palestinians take up arms, the world calls us terrorists and when we lay down our arms and resist peacefully, the Israelis kill us. “And even when we don’t protest peacefully, they take our land. What can we do?” Khabeisa said. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/palestinians/

The Federal Government (FG) has promised to create four million jobs for the teeming unemployed youths and women before the end of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. The announcement on behalf of the FG, Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, George Akume, on Tuesday at a press conference in Abuja, where the Ministry said it had concluded plans to organise a Partnership Economy Summit aimed at diversifying the economy, promote rural growth as well as generate jobs for the youths. Akume who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Ambassador Anthonia Ekpa, said the summit which will hold on September 14 and 15, would help generate four million jobs for youths and women in the country. The Minister added that the summit was being organised to “build a Post-Covid-19 economy that is capable of addressing various issues affecting the country.” “As we are all aware, the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted negatively on the world economy, including Nigeria, which has worsened the already precarious unemployment situation. “It is therefore, in recognition of this position and the Ministry’s mandate to coordinate multi-agency and inter-ministry functions as designated by Mr. President, as well as actively collaborate with the private sector to create employment for a large number of Nigerian youths that the up-coming Partnership Economy Summit is being planned. “It is pertinent to state that the primary purpose of the Summit is to diversify the economy, promote rural growth, as well as generate sustainable jobs for the youths. “It seeks not only to eradicate extreme poverty, but also to integrate and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development, economic, social as well as environmental. In October 2020, after observing the drift that Nigeria was experiencing, the slow response to the COVID crisis and the general hopelessness of the citizenry, Culbeat Foundation initiated a series of non-partisan policy talks to re-evaluate the problems facing Nigeria. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/fg/

Thousands of Guineans have taken to the streets of the capital Conakry on Monday, to celebrate with members of West African country’s armed forces after they staged a coup d’etat that toppled long term President Alpha Conde. The coup plotters, led by former head of the Special Forces, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, had announced on state television on Sunday that Conde had been arrested while the government and constitution were dissolved. Guinean special forces seized power in a coup on September 5, arresting the president and imposing an indefinite curfew in the poor west African country. “We have decided, after having taken the president, to dissolve the constitution,” said a uniformed officer flanked by soldiers toting assault rifles. They also announced plans to replace Guinea’s governors with regional military commanders. The Guinean borders were closed and its constitution declared invalid in the announcement read by Doumbouya who said: “We have decided after having taken the president, who is currently with us, to dissolve the current constitution, to dissolve the institutions; we have also decided to dissolve the government and the closure of land and air borders. “The personalization of political life is over. We will no longer entrust politics to one man, we will entrust it to the people “The duty of a soldier is to save the country.” A video had emerged showing the 83-year-old Conde, looking tired and disheveled, in military custody. Conde, in power for more than a decade, had seen his popularity plummet since he sought a third term last year, saying term limits did not apply to him. Following the ousting of Condé who pushed through a constitutional referendum in Guinea on March 22, 2020, that would give him a third term after more than 10 years in office, Guineans trooped into the streets to celebrate with the soldiers. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/guineans-celebrate-military-coup/

Respected Islamic scholar and cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has renewed his constant calls for the Federal Government to grant amnesty to bandits. Sheikh Gumi is of the belief that doing so will ensure eradication of terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, different kinds of criminality especially in the Northern parts of Nigeria. According to Sheikh Gumi, the war against banditry will be fruitless unless the Federal Government grants them amnesty as it did to the Niger Delta militants. The cleric disclosed this in a post on his Facebook page entitled: ‘Zamfara: The Flaring Of Crisis.’ Sheikh Gumi warned that military action against armed herders would worsen the insecurity situation rather than solve it. “By 2015, banditry has replaced cattle raring that is becoming nearly impossible. Drugs were introduced into the herdsmen that are known to be illiterates or semi-illiterates. “The reaction of the town local vigilantes (a natural reaction to any communal aggression in self-defence) pitched the herdsman against the local rural helmets and villages. They even go into towns to the forests where they are lynch and maimed when whenever they enter markets. “Therefore, everybody became an enemy and a target. Fulanis and other tribes, Muslims and non-Muslims were equally kidnapped for a ransom most of which goes to buying weapons.” “Profiling of Fulani herdsmen became another motivative factor of more resistance and more kidnappings which has now led to their metamorphosis into the monster the nation is facing today.” “We should also know that because of their educational status and lack of an effective unified leadership they have faced untold hardship at the hands of authorities where they were extorted and stereotyped. “It has been imprinted in the psyche of nomadic pastoralists that the authorities and their town dwellers are ‘evil people’ that should be resisted because they have no place to secure justice for their cases no matter how innocent they may be. “With their acquisition of weapons, they realized how easy it became to be masters of their abode the forest, where no authority can venture into. “This has emboldened them to further attack people for more ransoms to sustain their newfound reality. “Now with the prodding of the government to take more military actions of an already ugly situation whereby they were left to amass weapons. “This is what the UN is all about. i.e., roundtable resolution of conflicts. What we are seeing is more than just criminals and criminality, yes it may have started as such but like any conflict, it is dynamic.” “The danger we face now is ideological demagogues changing the narrative. They are trying hard to infiltrate the herdsmen. “And we know their objectives. They want to destroy all modern governments by fighting the military and now in the recent cajoling of local populations, they have tormented before to join them in the struggle.” “Let us face the reality, these herdsmen are going nowhere, and they are already in battle gear, and we know our military very well, so before things get messy, we need cold brains to handle this delicate situation. “Military actions in the past have worsen the situation stimulating herdsmen resistance. Any more action will push them closer to religious fanaticism. “It gives them protection from discrediting them as thieves and also reinforce their mobilization of gullible young unemployed youth as we saw with BH.” “I have met many of the bandit leaders to see a way out of this gridlock. I have talked to the political class and security agents. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/sheikh-ahmad-gumi/#

Doumniuya, while announcing the coup in a video, said that the government and the country’s constitution and institutions have been ‘dissolved’. “We have decided after having taken the president, who is currently with us, to dissolve the current constitution, to dissolve the institutions; we have also decided to dissolve the government and the closure of land and air borders. “The personalization of political life is over. The international break threw up another round of exciting fixtures, in the run up to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. As various national teams fight for a place in next year’s footballing showpiece in the Middle East. Oladipupo Mojeed brings you a review of some of the important and intriguing matches. Chile 0-1 Brazil Brazil extended their World Cup qualifying victories to seven games after a barely deserved win over Chile. The Brazilians were ill-prepared for the match, as they had issues with some players joining up with the squad a few days before the fixture. This showed in their performance as they were second best in every department for most of the first half. Everton had to come up with a couple of saves to stop them from conceding against the rampaging Chileans. Coach Tite tweeked a bit of magic. When he subbed on Gerson and the eventual match-winner Ribeiro at halftime for Bruno Guimares. Vinicius Junior’s contribution also tilted the game in the Selecao’s favour and the decision paid off. Ribeiro capitalized on a parried Neymar shot to fire home the winner in the 64th minute for the only goal of the match. Brazil now sits top of the table, 6 points clear of Argentina while the upcoming meeting is expected to be another firecracker – a repeat of the 2020 Copa America final. Venezuela 1-3 Argentina Argentina also maintained their unbeaten start to their World Cup qualifying campaign after a 3-1 victory over hapless Venezuela. Lionel Messi struggled to stamp his authority in his first match back for his country after winning Copa America. His performance mattered little as his teammates came up with the goods. Lautaro Martinez scored the match opener late in the first half. After the Venezuelans were reduced to 10 men for a reckless challenge on Messi by Adrian Martinez. Argentina was not at their best but the extra man gave them the edge needed to cruise to a victory. Joaquin Correa and Angel Correa found the back of the net later on in the game. Yeferson Soteldo pulled one back for the hosts with a penalty deep into injury time. Argentina were 3 points off leaders after their victory but the Brazilians extended the lead with their victory over Chile. Hungary 0-4 England England cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Hungarians at the Puskas Arena on Thursday night. The win moved them 5 points clear at the top of World cup qualifying group 1. It was a miserable night on and off the field for Hungary. The country’s Football Federation is likely to face a FIFA investigation over the behaviour of their supporters who were reported to racially racial abuse two England’s players. England showed they’ve put the Euro 2020 final behind them with a superb second-half display. Raheem Sterling scored the opener in the 55th minute after a frustrating first half, tapping home a cut back from Mason Mount. The scorer turned provider for the second 8 minutes later when Harry Kane headed in his deflected cross. Harry Maguire found Luke Shaw’s cross from a corner to make it 3 for the night. Declan Rice sealed the victory as his outside shot found the back of the net 3 minutes from the end. The Hungarian goalkeeper made a series of saves from Kane who wasn’t at his clinical best. This prevented his side from a more humiliating outing. Sweden 2-1 Spain Spain suffered their first World Cup qualifying defeat since 1993 as they lost 2-1 to Sweden. This ended a 66 games unbeaten run. Luis Enrique’s men fell despite their early lead through Carlos Soler. Who fired home 5 minutes into his debut after Jordi Alba cut the opponent’s defense wide open with a through ball. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/top-five-world-cup-qualifying-games/

In a series of revelations published on his Instagram stories on Sunday, Kpokpogri stated that his relationship with Tonto Dikeh was a ‘living hell’ for him. Kpokpogri’s statement is coming several days after the Nigerian politician and Tonto Dikeh unfollowed each other on all social media platforms. The couple have been together for barely three months but insiders said the relations was not as smooth as they made their fans to believe. Tonto Dikeh and Kpokpogri had, on Saturday, unfollowed each other on Instagram amid cheating scandal that rocked them in the past few days. The action, according to entertainment sources, was predicated on allegations of infidelity and domestic violence from both partners, fueling reports that they may have called their relationship quits just after just three months. Nigerian On Air Personality (OAP), Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, popularly known as Nedu Wazobia and his estranged wife, Uzoamaka Ohiri, have decided to wash their dirty linens in the public space. The first salvo which has led to a bitter war of words stared when Uzoamaka accused the comic act of domestic violence which led to their separation. Uzoamaka decided to come out with her story shortly after Annie Idibia, called out her music star husband, 2Face Idibia on Instagram, accusing him of still seeing one of his baby mamas, Pero Adeniyi. Uzoamaka took to the same platform to call out OAP Nedu for an alleged domestic violence while they were married. She also accused him of battering her few weeks after she had a caesarean operation. In a viral post via her Instagram story, Uzoamaka said, while they were married, Nedu had turned her into a punching bag, often beating her blue black at the slightest provocation, even in the presence of his mother. Uzoamaka also accused Nedu of neglect and not caring for her and their children. She further accused him of battering her a few weeks after she had an operation while his mother watched. The bitter woman wondered why the Lagos-based radio station where Nedu works, Wazobia FM, still allows the presenter to host marriage talks and shows even when he is one of the many men that beat their wives to stupor. “Seems like a very good time to call all useless men out, I am tired. Let’s take care of the girls, leave my son out of this. “Do you remember when you beat me up while your mother held my new-born a few weeks after I had a cesarean operation? “I still wonder how Wazobia Fm Lagos allows you to host a marriage show when you’re one out of the many men that beat their spouses to stupor,” she wrote on her Insta-story. However, Nedu was quick to respond to his ex-wife, debunking all the allegations she leveled against him, saying he had never beaten her while their marriage lasted from 2013 before it crashed in 2018. On his part, Nedu accused Uzoamaka of having a child out of wedlock while they were still married. Adding that their marriage was plaqued with lots of issues which led to a paternity test that revealed that one of the three children was not his own. The OAP maintained that “he has never been one to physically violate any body including his ex-wife”. He noted that their marriage was plagued with lots of issues including “continuous infidelity from her side” which pushed him into conducting a paternity test on their kids. He disclosed that the paternity test led to the revelation that their first son was not his biological child, even though he was born within the period they were married. “My attention has been drawn to stories making the rounds on social media by my ex-wife, Uzoamaka Ohiri. While I am not one to trade issues on social media, it has become pertinent that I clear the air once and for all. “First of all, I would like to state clearly that I do not support or encourage any form of domestic violence whether targeted at a woman or man. I have also never been one to physically violate any body including my ex-wife. “Our marriage was one plagued with a lot of issues, one of which was continuous infidelity from her side that led to me conducting a paternity test on our kids which led to the revelation that our first son is not my biological son even though he was born within the period during which we were married,” the OAP also wrote. Nedu pointed out that the issue of domestic violence during their marriage was investigated twice, one by police officers in Ajah and another by a competent court of law during the dissolution of their marriage. And he claimed that he was cleared of the allegation on both occasions. The media personality who stated that he has proof to back up his claims begged Uzoamaka not “to continue on the path she has chosen as the Internet never forgets,” adding that their children “will one day grow up to deal with this mess she is hell bent on creating.” “On the allegation of domestic violence, we have had this matter investigated twice, one at the police station in Ajah and another by a competent court of law during the dissolution of our marriage. “Both times, I was cleared of all allegations and I have the necessary proof to back up my claim. If anyone should be laying claims to domestic violence, it should be me. “It is heartbreaking that I even have to issue this statement under this circumstances as I have put the unfortunate incidents surrounding my ex-wife and I and the final collapse of our union behind me. “I am appealing to my ex-wife to remember our kids and to not continue on this path she has chosen as the Internet never forgets and they will one day grow up to deal with this mess she is hell bent on creating. “I have no issues with her and would like to continue to mind the business that pays me. If she has any issues to join me with me, she is free to file her complaints and approach any court of competent jurisdiction to pursue justice. Thanks,” he submitted Not yet done, Uzoamaka fired another salvo where she accused Nedu of bigamy, though she carefully refused to comment on his allegation that she had a child for another man while they were legally married. In another Insta-story post, she accused Nedu of marrying another wife while still married to her. “Please where are the divorce papers? We both are in accordance with being divorced. I need to sign too. Even when you committed bigamy, I was not moved. Try not to open Ajiwe police station issue again, as you know you faulted. “As regards the scar on your hand; that was the day I was with our infant daughter. Other @wazobiafmlagos staff witnessed the drama unfold. OAP Nedu, we fought and I finally won one battle. Deal with it! “As regards my son, you have already spread that certificate to the whole world. It is no longer, and has never been a secret. It’s okay to say you do not have a problem with me… that’s for the gram. But why are your kids suffering? “Now that I have gotten your attention, all I have been demanding, is for you to man up to some responsibilities over our lovely kids and their welfare. For 4 years, I have been paying for the house rent and a lot of bills. You might not understand as you have never spent more than 12 hours with them. “We can also share the rent bills on a 50-50 ratio. I have been the only one paying for about 4 years, and trust me it has not been easy on me. “I have called, texted and tried to reach out to you via other direct and indirect methods, but to no avail. Please honour this request. Thank you, Sir.” read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/oap-nedu-estranged-wife-in-bitter-war-of-word/

Nollywood actress and wife of music Icon, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, Annie Idibia, has been in the news for the past few days following her marital crisis. Annie first hugged the spotlight when she took to her Instagram story to vent about the activities of her husband, and according to her, the music star takes advantage of every opportunity to be with one of his baby mama, Pero Adeniyi, who has three children for him. While narrating her pains, Annie complained about 2face’s decision to sleep in the same house with Pero and her three kids whenever he visits them. She also called out one of her brother-in-laws, Charles Idibia, whom she accused of enabling the “closeness” between 2face and Pero. In her words, “she is tired!” Annie’s outburst did not go down well with Charles who also came for her on social media page. Charles accused Annie of disturbing the peace of her home, pushing her in-laws away but comfortably accomodating her mother and cousins. Annie and Charles continued their war of words after he accused her of being violent, and her mother of being diabolic, with Annie firing back at the Idibia clan of “sucking 2face dry because he is a successful entertainer.” Many persons have bashed Annie for bringing her family issues to the public. According to these group, such issues should be resolved in private. However, some persons felt she could no longer handle the issues alone, hence her decision to come out in public to label her husband an irresponsible man. Another group of persons were not sympathetic to the plight of the mother of two. They accused Annie of marrying 2face because she wanted the tag “virtuous.” In the past, Annie had publicly self-acclaimed bashed feminists, urging them to go and get a life and stop deceiving single women. She described them as bitter and that she can never be a feminist. Feminists have equally fired back at her, declaring that they have no pity for her because she knew what she was entering into. They blamed her for marrying a man who “lacks self control and has different children from different women,” and cheekily advised her not to complain when he is not loyal to her despite being his legal wife. Knocks for 2face Idibia In recent times, there have been reports that Pero has a special place in his 2face’s life. It is Annie’s right to demand that he respects their marriage. If he knew he will not be loyal to her, he could not have walked her down the aisle. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/annie-idibias-outburst-reactions-and-pointers/

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, has submitted the Forensic Audit Report on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to President Muhammadu Buhari, while noting that 13,000 projects were abandoned in the Region. Akpabio submitted the report to the President through the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, in Abuja, on Thursday. While submitting the audit report which had raised a lot of tension in the oil producing region, Akpabio said: “The report of the audit committee showed that there are over 13,000 abandoned projects in the Niger Delta and even before the submission of the report, some contractors have returned to site on their own and completed about 77 road projects. “Although the exercise had a checkered history, I thank Mr President and all those who supported and ensured its success.” He stressed that the exercise was not done to witch-hunt anyone, but to ensure that the huge sums of funds committed to the area yearly are justified. He lamented that the region had remained backward since 1958 in spite of successive governments’ efforts through the creation of various interventionist programmes and projects. In his remarks shortly before he handed over the report, Akpabio, disclosed that the forensic audit covered a total of 13,777 contracts that were awarded from 2001 to 2019 at a final contract value of over N3trillion. “I welcome you all to the presentation of the Report on the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Commission (NDDC), which report I am to receive on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. “You will recall the President had ordered for a holistic forensic audit of the activities of the Commission from inception to August 2019 in response to the yearnings of the people the Niger Delta Region to reposition it for effective service delivery. “It is imperative to state that, the call for the audit by the people of the Niger Delta Region arose from the huge gaps between resources invested in the region vis a vis the huge gap in infrastructural, human and economic development.” The Lead Forensic Auditor, Alhaji Kabir Ahmed, in a brief overview of the report, said that the team recommended managerial as well as structural changes, chief of which is the downsizing of the NDDC’s board. He added that to reduce cost the of running the NNDC, members of the team should henceforth be appointed on a part-time basis. The Forensic Audit of the NNDC was ordered by President Buhari early this year as a way of curtailing the corruption that had pervaded the interventionist agency for so many years. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/nddc-audit/

The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has grown deeper as Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba, has sacked the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, as the Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The court restrained the interim chairman and others from parading themselves as members of the party’s CECPC until the determination of a substantive suit, before the court. The court judgment was given after the Deputy Chairman of the party in Delta State, Olorogun Elvis Ayomanor, led other officials of the party to challenge the outcome of the Ward Congress election in court. The presiding judge, Justice Onome Marshal Umukoro, in his ruling stopped the Party’s scheduled Local Government Congress in Delta State, slated for September 4, 2021. Meanwhile, Buni had on Wednesday ratified and adopted the results of the party’s ward congress election which took place across the country. The decision to adopt the results was taken at the 16th meeting of the APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), which was presided over by Buni. Meanwhile, the APC had threatened that it would henceforth punish any of its members who files any suit against the party, over its CECPC. A former member of the House of Representatives, Patrick Obahiagbon, disclosed the development after about 100 aggrieved members of the party in Benue State dragged the party and Buni, to the Federal High Court in Abuja, over the continued stay in office of members of the committee. The suit marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/938/2021, also had the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants. According to Obahiagbon, the punishment for such a member would start from the ward, and go to the local government and state before coming to the national secretariat. An ex-Naval officer, Navy Commodore, Kunle Olawunmi, who was invited by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), following an interview he had with a Channels Television programme, ‘Sunrise Daily’ last Wednesday. Honoured the invitation in the company of his lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), on Tuesday. The interview the ex-Naval officer had elicited widespread controversy with an online medium raising the alarm that he had been declared wanted. Which led to DIA issuing a disclaimer to clear the air that the retired officer was only invited to shed more light on the issues he raised. In the interview, the ex-Naval officer, who is the Head of the Department of Criminology and Security Studies at Chrisland University, had alleged that some insurgents arrested years ago mentioned the names of some government officials as their supporters. Among other things, ex-Naval officer Olawumni had said: “Recently, 400 people were gathered as sponsors of Boko Haram. Why is it that the Buhari government has refused to try them? Why can’t this government bring them to trial if not that they are partisan and part of the charade that is going on? “You remember this Boko Haram issue started in 2012 and I was in the military intelligence at that time. We arrested those people. My organisation actually conducted interrogation and they (suspects) mentioned names. I can’t come on air and start mentioning names of people that are presently in government that I know that the boys that we arrested mentioned. Some of them are governors now, some of them are in the senate; some of them are in Aso Rock.” Following the report that he had been declared wanted and the public outcry that followed, the DIA, through the DHQ spokesman, Maj. Gen. Benjamin Sawyerr, issued a statement to clear the air: “There is nothing like that. There is no time that the DIA ordered the arrest of the naval officer. He went on Channels Television and said a lot of things. So, someone in intelligence called him and asked him to come on Tuesday and share his information. “The military does not issue warrant of arrest. Only a court can order an arrest. The former officer spent a lot of time at the interview. If they wanted to arrest him, they would have done so. No one invites someone just to arrest them,” Sawyerr said. Confirming the visit of the officer to the DIA’s office in Abuja. Falana revealed that it was just a friendly chat between a retired officer and his erstwhile colleagues. Falana added that he represented the retired military officer during the chat, in strict compliance with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. “I confirm that it was a friendly chat between commodore Kunle Olawunmi and his colleagues. The chat lasted for some minutes. I was allowed to represent the retired military officer during the friendly chat in strict compliance with the provisions of the administration of criminal justice act.” read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/ex-naval-officer-olawunmi/

On Tuesday morning, the Afaka Barracks of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna was attacked. Two officers were reportedly killed and another injured. According to reports, the bandits held some of the Naval officers hostage for some hours. However, they escaped with one of the officers. The Public Relations Officer of the NDA, Major Bashir Jajira, confirmed the incident. “The Academy in collaboration with the 1Division Nigerian Army and Air Training Command, as well as other security agencies in Kaduna state have since commenced pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area with a view to tracking them and rescue the abducted personnel,” Jajira said. “The NDA community and Cadets are safe in the Academy. We assure the general public that these unknown gunmen would soon be apprehended and the abducted personnel rescued,’’ he added The bandits demand a ransom The bandits have demanded 200 million naira as ransom for Major Christopher Dantong, the personnel they abducted from the NDA. Meanwhile, the dead soldiers have been identified as Lieutenant Commodore Wulah and Flight Lieutenant Okoronwo. According to reports, the bandits operated for hours. The soldiers could not get hold of them even after they were done causing havoc at the military base. “They couldn’t kill even one of them. They searched everywhere in the bush but couldn’t find them. The bandits had fled away with their motorbikes. It was a terrible experience. They took advantage of the time when most people had gone to bed to attack the barracks. Right now, the whole barracks is under lock and key and security has been beefed up,” a source told Daily Trust. The military refuses to pay ransom According to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), the Nigeria Military stated that it has no intention to pay the 200 million Naira ransom. More so, they have contacted the family of Major Datong to inform them of their decision. Hence, his family members are expected to make direct contact with the bandits. Meanwhile, there are reports from some media houses that Major Datong has been killed. However, the FIJ insists the military officer is still alive (as at the time this article was written). Reactions trail the attack on NDA Various personalities have reacted to the attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy. Ace musician, Daddy Showkey said on his Instagram page, ‘’It’s a shame and disgrace to Nigeria. Our pride, the Nigeria Defence Academy was attacked. You people are still calling these people bandits. These people are not bandits. They are mercenaries coming to take over” Momoh Ubah commented, ‘’Some heads are supposed to be rolling by now but no. It is not in our character to accept responsibility at all. Not to talk of failures. Blame shifting or excuses and explanation are the only thing we will get for the loss of lives and security breached.’’ Yusuf Dabo posted, ‘’I’m only sad because of the innocent young military officers involved. Next time, they should do us a favour and go to Aso Rock Villa or National Assembly please.’’ The attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy is quite embarrassing. If those trained to protect the citizens are not safe, what is the fate of the common man on the streets? Apparently, these attackers are on a mission. Hence, the Nigerian government must up its game in attending to the security situation in the country. This will not only restore our dignity as a nation. It will restore peace and trust, as well as boost the confidence of the people in their leaders. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/nigerian-defence-academy-attack-and-observations/

Every football transfer market does have its intrigues, high and low points, but the 2021 transfer season was one that made history and in all ramification, will not hit football fans in a long time to come. It was a market that football fans all over the world will hold on to and wish they live to see such a repeat. It was a transfer market where, unarguably, the two best greatest footballers of all time (?), took turns to to move to different clubs, and different leagues. Lionel Messi’s Shocking Move To PSG Argentine star, Lionel Andres Messi was the first to cause a shock when he moved to French giants, Paris St. Germain. The footballing world was thrown into a frenzy when the Argentina and Barcelona captain and forward made a surprising and emotional departure from Barcelona after an amazing 21 years journey. Messi, considered by many as the best player in the world, (and statistically, some would argue that he remains the greatest of all time), was not expected by many to leave Barcelona and had thought he would end his career as a one-club man. But the Argentina legend and playmaker who has made a remarkable feat for himself by setting an incredible record in football history having won a club-record 35 trophies which includes ten La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions Leagues, seven Copa del Rey titles, and also winning Ballon d’Or awards, and record six European Golden Shoes, confounded all by that singular move. The highly talented playmaker also holds the records for most goals in La Liga, after hitting the net 474 times. While at the Spanish club, Messi had the most hat-tricks in La Liga, most assist, and remains the only player with most goals ever by a player for a single club having netted over 750 senior career goals for club and country. Beyond a doubt, Messi has lived to redefine the beauty and art of football for the past decades with his excellent skills, deft touches, scintillating dribbling skills, goals scoring records, and a lot of achievements by winning several trophies in football history. However, the football legend finally dropped his iconic Barca shirt for the Ligue 1 club where he signed a two-year deal with an option for a third, worth £25m per year after tax. The aging but eccentric 34-year-old was persuaded by the Barca board to sign a new contract at Barcelona but he turned it down and left Barca for PSG. Having gotten to the new PSG club where he reunites with his former partner, the Brazilian football star, Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, known as Neymar. Messi said: “Everything about the club matches my football ambitions” Ronaldo Sensational Returns To The Red Devils Before Cristiano Ronaldo’s move back to Manchester United, there were rumours that he was on his way to Premier League rivals, Manchester City with his super agent, Jorge Mendes, flying into England to hold talks with the City hierarchy. Everything was on the cards for a sensational move as City had just missed signing England striker, Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur. But is a surprising turn of event, Ronaldo made a sharp U-turn and in a matter of hours, the Red Devils were in the conversation as rumours that he would swap Juventus for Old Trafford. Whatever or whoever convinced Ronaldo to return to Man U must have had the touch of legend as he ended his three-year stint in Turin and returned his beloved Man U, a club where he had his breakthrough. He has continued to credit former Coach, Sir Alex Ferguson for his decision but that said, the return of Ronaldo to Man U was one shocking move the 2021 transfer market bestowed on football fans, especially Nigerian Man U fans who are all eager to see their favourite son back in their fold. Shortly after signing the dotted lines, Ronaldo took to his Instagram page to give his official goodbyes to Juventus and their fans. “Today, I depart from an amazing club, the biggest in Italy and surely one of the biggest in all of Europe. I gave my heart and soul for Juventus and I’ll always love the city of Turin until my final days. read more: https://newsroundtheclock.com/2021-transfer-market-that-turned-history-on-its-head/
