Politics › Re: Nnamdi Kanu To Lose His British Citizenship - Kemi Olunloyo by Babanah: 6:52pm On Jul 09, 2021 |
Kanu is a Nigerian citizen by birth and origin his parents also being Nigerian citizens. He later acquired British citizenship granted by the UK government. His citizenship can therefore be revoked by the UK government. Under international law a state can revoke an individual’s citizenship provided the person has citizenship of another country. (Dual nationality). But no country has the right to render an individual stateless. Recently a British citizen born and bred in the UK had her citizenship revoked by the UK government because she left the UK voluntarily to join the Islamic state fighters. She was later captured by rebels when the Islamic state fell. The government held that since her parents are of Bangladeshi origin she also has rights to Bangladeshi citizenship. This was upheld by the UK Supreme Court. As far as I know Kanu was born and bred in Nigeria. Coldshisha: They can't revoke his citizenship since he never commited any crime on UK soil.... If it had been in the UK he did all his nonsense with ESN, then his citizenship might get revoked after jailing him |

Sheggy13: I'm trying to make sense of your last sentence. Is presenting a forged document not the same as forging? Section 465 of the Criminal Code Act, forgery is defined thus: “A person who makes a false document or writing knowing it to be false, and with intent that it may in any way be used or acted upon as genuine, whether in the State or elsewhere, to the prejudice of any person, or with intent that any person may, in the belief that it is genuine, be induced to do or refrain from doing any act, whether in the State or elsewhere, is said to forge the document or writing”. |

BlackFlamefromP: These guys and the judge are not getting it. The real issue is not whether the position she occupied required NYSC certificate or not. The question is- DID SHE FORGE THE CERTIFICATE OR NOT?
Do these people think they can play on everybody's intelligence? In law, they say ‘you cannot build something on nothing’ so it may be difficult to convict her. |

blaise26abj: She has a responsibility to go through the normal channel to obtain an exemption certificate but she didn’t . Even if she chose used a proxy , she had a responsibility to confirm the authenticity of the document . She is as guilty as the forger for presenting the document . That is left for the courts to decide. |

Noted.
But did she forge NYSC certificate or not?
She is not alleged to have forged her NYSC certificate. She is said to have Presented a certificate which appeared to have been forged. Forging and presenting a forged document are two different things. |

Gbagura: Thought some ipob terrorists were foaming in their mouths that he's a UK citizen who can't be arrested. Igbo and gullibility are 5 & 6. He has dual citizenship. The UK law allows the government to revoke British citizenship from dual nationals since they have another nationality to fall back on. However under international law you cannot make an individual stateless. |

Kriss216: So, what's wrong in scrapping the Senate?
Of what use are those Fulani slaves to Nigerians with their useless sittings? The senate / upper chamber is necessary in any federation to guarantee equity among the federating units. Without that only a few states with large populations will control a unicameral chamber. This is why the constitution requires key federal appointments to be confirmed by the senate only. Kano state has three senators just as balyesa despite differences in population. |

omonnakoda: Interesting stuff but off point and incoherent
I do not think Femi Otedola is an Omo onile with a sense of entitlement
The whole humanity is related one way or another some even believe we all have one ancestor so what? So what if most successful countries are built by foreigners? A claim that is very debatable anyway Does that mean all countries must be? How is that relevant When these foreigners were building America as you claim did they arrive with passports or Visas Now they are talking of building walls to "KEEP OUT ALIENS" >>>>> Yes that is the word "ALIEN" We are discussing a constitution. Do not lose sight of that What is important is who should have a say in the constitution. That must be negotiated not imposed by outsiders I think I have made my point as every other Nigerian is entitled to. I cannot impose my views on anyone as I’m not in the army and do not intend to plot a coup. The thinking of individuals have a lot to do with the collective psyche of a society. I grew up at a time when the sky was the limit for Nigeria. I have been around the world and cannot think of any country that is packed full with intelligent and energetic people. All I want is for Nigeria to take it’s rightful place in the comity of nations so that the Black race could finally be respected. By the way I’m half lagosian island. I rest my case. |
Politics › Re: Sanwo-Olu Restate Calls For Special Status For Lagos by Babanah: 1:56pm On Jun 02, 2021 |
omonnakoda: First this whole thing comes from a constitutional review
Even reclaiming land from the ocean makes assumptions about WHO has the rights to do that.. What are the rights e.g of the Oba of Lagos and other institutions in the area
Lagos became a colony by Treaty with the British in the 1860s
The point is Lagos should not be taken for granted whether by Nigeria or any so called Yoruba nation. It has indigenes with their own culture and religion with a lot of reverence for water deities. Many Nigerians especially christians and Muslims always bully others and don't even see that. Claiming land from the sea is not something that should be decided by Ekiti, Osun or Ibadan people
The problem is some elitist folk have a vision for Lagos and I ask them who the hell are you to decide what should happen in Lagos. Most prosperous and successful countries have were built by foreigners. The US, United Kingdom, Singapore and some Middle East countries. The British finally chose Lagos as the capital of Nigeria because of what they saw in Lagosians. Educated ,enlightened, urbane and accommodating group of people. Comprising of the Bini, Awori, Brazilian West Indian Serria Leone returnees. Lagos has over the years accommodated people from far and near and I think that was why the British moved the capital to Lagos. (And by the way Nigeria had not made any progress since the capital was moved to Abuja but that’s by the way). But I’m shocked by the present crop of ‘Lagosians’ who appear to be uneducated, omo onile, with all sense of entitlement and no sense of history. I say to them could Lagos be where it is today without the contributions of non lagosians? |
Politics › Re: Sanwo-Olu Restate Calls For Special Status For Lagos by Babanah: 12:52pm On Jun 02, 2021 |
omonnakoda: First it is a power not a right. It is not an unlimited power. This special status is being asked for as part of a constitution writing process.
Such a process to be honest cannot have any assumptions including assumptions deriving from the constitution that is being quarreled with like the Land Use Act.
Acquiring land for common good is a good phrase when you are not the victim.
Why does that same principle not apply to RUGA and settling Fulani herdsmen
Acquiring one plot of land for common good is different from ethnic cleansing entire ancestral villages ,towns or cities
What about the minority Group in Badagry are they expendable too? Just like Bakassi What happens to them. Why don't we evacuate the Ogoni so the oil can flow?
We are very good at citing "rules" when they suit us and when they don't we cry self-determination My friend, we seem to be saying different things. I am suggesting converting the present Eko Atlantic into a special economic territory like Hong Kong. If we want to expand we reclaim more land from the ocean. It wouldn’t be fair to convert the whole of Lagos state into a special economic zone. Not only to the indigenes of Lagos but also the other states. |
Politics › Re: Sanwo-Olu Restate Calls For Special Status For Lagos by Babanah: 12:16pm On Jun 02, 2021 |
omonnakoda: First they have to consent. They do not have to The government has the right to acquire any private land in the interest of wider public. |
Politics › Re: Sanwo-Olu Restate Calls For Special Status For Lagos by Babanah: 11:09am On Jun 02, 2021 |
omonnakoda: It depends on the terms. If they agree to it and receive compensation it is not a big deal.As long as there is a treaty or other legal backing. We have seen so many instances of this in history even recently with Bakassi Yes I agree with you ‘land owners’ will have to be compensated after which they have to relinquish rights to their property. |
Politics › Re: Sanwo-Olu Restate Calls For Special Status For Lagos by Babanah: 11:06am On Jun 02, 2021 |
omonnakoda: And the current indigenes will have no say in this project?
You just sit down with your laptop and decide what to do with their ancestral lands?
But other Nigerians will retain indigeneship elsewhere? Whilst those from Lagos become homeless? How about starting off with ‘Eko Atlantic’ ? At least we won’t have much problems with ‘resetting’. |
Politics › Re: Sanwo-Olu Restate Calls For Special Status For Lagos by Babanah: 10:47am On Jun 02, 2021 |
omonnakoda: What about the indigenes ? Will they have a special status? There will be no indigenes in this territory which will not be the whole of Lagos state. When Abuja was conceived the original inhabitants were supposed to be resettled outside the FCT. But that didn’t happen hence we have ‘Abuja indigenes’ citizens of the Federal Government in Abuja and therefore superior to other Nigerians. |
Politics › Re: Sanwo-Olu Restate Calls For Special Status For Lagos by Babanah: 10:37am On Jun 02, 2021 |
A special Economic Zone should be carved out of Lagos with a status such as Hong Kong.
It shall be self governing but under the sovereignty of Nigeria.
It will have its own financial regulator independent of the CBN.
Capital flows in and out of this region shall be unimpeded.
Relaxed immigration rules for foreigners from developed countries and African diaspora.
Transactions will be denominated in USD and all corporation taxes shall be remitted to the Federal Government of Nigeria to be shared by all tiers of government.
This territory shall be run as a private corporation and occupants will pay dues, taxes, fees and fines to the corporation for the upkeep of facilities within this territory.
If this can happen, it will unleash the tremendous energies from Nigeria and the diaspora without the ‘political mill stone’ hanging on her neck. As long as this territory remits money to the Federal government. |

I think Malami made a good point. The Northerners have not banned consumers of alcohol from staying in the North because they are smart enough to know they don’t have the constitutional powers to do so. Instead they search for impound and destroy alcohol (beer). The so called southerners are not as clever as they think. Intelligence is not the same thing as going to school. |
