Politics / Re: FFK Blasts Journalist At A Press Conference For Asking Him A "Stupid" Question by Babanah: 3:33pm On Aug 25, 2020
OlujobaSamuel:

Intelligence has been defined in many ways: the capacity for logic, understanding, self-awareness, learning, emotional knowledge, reasoning, planning, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. More generally, it can be described as the ability to perceive or infer information, and to retain it as knowledge to be applied towards adaptive behaviors within an environment or context.
I doubt if he fits into that definition

Okay Sir, I must say I respect your opinion on this matter.

So his Alma Mater is a justification for his level of intelligence?

FFK is very intelligent by all standards. Being a Cambridge graduate only goes to confirm this.
I have worked with quite o few of them and I know this. Gaining admission is competitive and even then if you are not top notch you cannot survive the demands both academic and otherwise. Trust me.

FFK and intelligence in the same sentence?. That is news!

At least he went to public (private fee paying) school in England and read law at the university of Cambridge in England.

You have to think intelligently, the question the journalist asked was rather daft.

It’s not about your opinion of FFK who by the way is an extremely intelligent man by all standards.

It’s a shame what this country has been brought to. While am not exactly a fan of Femi Fani-Kayode, people of his caliber are the ones running the government in the United Kingdom.
It’s sad to hear such quality of question from a journalist. It appears most don’t appreciate the use of IQ.

Mr Onyema worked in the United Nations for many years. So I think he is more of a multinational diplomat. They are not usually suited for the role of foreign minister.

My friend I think you need to do more research. We African are the only remaining pure human race. Most of the current inhabitants of Europe and Asia are products of cross breeding between humans and Neanderthals. Neanderthals are not necessarily considered to be humans. The fact that we have Africans living and functioning well in Europe may suggest its a matter of nurture over nature.

Politics / Re: Senate Receives Buhari’s Request To Confirm 11 Judges For FCT High Court, Others by Babanah: 3:46pm On Jul 07, 2020
madamgrace:

The Senate on Tuesday received a formal request for the confirmation of 11 nominees as Judges of the Federal High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The request was contained in a letter read on the floor during plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

The letter reads: “In accordance to Section 256(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I have the honour to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the under-listed names of eleven (11) nominees as Judges of the High Court of the FCT, Abuja.

The nominees are: Abubakar Husseini Musa (Adamawa State); Edward Okpe (Benue State); Babashani Abubakar (Borno State); Emuesiri Francis (Delta State); Jude Ogho (Delta State); Josephine Enobi (Edo State); Christopher Opeyemi Oba (Ekiti State); Mohammed Idris (Kano State); Hassan Maryam Aliyu (Kebbi State); Fashola Akeem Adebowale (Lagos State); and Hamza Muazu (Niger State).

The Minority Whip, Senator Philip Aduda, while relying on Order 43 of the Senate Standing Rules objected to the absence of a nominee from the FCT.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC – Ekiti Central), while coming under the same point of order, explained to the contrary that the FCT already has Judges on the bench of the FCT High Court.

“What is being done by the National Judicial Council at the moment is to fill existing vacancies on the bench of the FCT Judiciary.

“What will become an issue is if you take list of the over 40 Judges of the FCT and any particular state is missing, that is when it becomes an issue.

“A major criterion is to ensure that states that do not have anybody on the bench are given priority. I just wanted to clarify that FCT has Judges on the bench of the FCT”, the lawmaker explained.

In a related development, the President also requested the upper chamber to confirm the appointment of three members of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

“In compliance with the provision of Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), and pursuant to Section 1(2) and (3) of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act LFN 2004, I write to request for confirmation by the Senate, the following three nominees for appointment as members of the Code of Conduct Bureau. The curriculum vitae of the nominees are attached herewith.

They are: Barr. Ben Umeano (Anambra State – South East); Hon. Johnson Abonaema (Edo State – South South); Olayinka Babatunde Balogun (Ogun State – South West).

Also to be confirmed is the appointment of Umar Garba Danbatta, as Executive Vice Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for a second term of five (5) years.

According to President Buhari, the nominee’s appointment is In accordance with the provision of Section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003.

Meanwhile, the confirmation of the nomination of Idahagbon Williams Omoregie for appointment as Commissioner of the Federal Civil Service Commission was referred by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to the Committee on Establishment and Public Service.

The Senate President also referred the nominations of Usman Mahmud Hassan as Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission to the Committee on National Planning and Economic matters; Tella Adeniran Rahmon as Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission to the Committee on INEC; Suleiman Sani as Career Ambassador; and the appointment of 41 Non-Career Ambassadors to the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The Committees are expected to submit their reports to the Senate in two weeks.

Do the ‘indigenes’ of FTC have special rights as against other Nigerians. We are subjects of our respective state governments while they are subjects of the Federal Government?

Until all Nigerians begin to think rationally to solve the problems facing the country nothing will change in this country. 60 years after being granted self governance see where we are today.

For those of us around in the 70s when Nigeria hosted the 2nd All African Games, Asian African & Latin American tournament. 1st Lagos International Trade Fair then of course FESTAC (the festival itself and the international colloquium).

International artists were queuing up to perform in Nigeria. Some of them when on to release songs reflecting on their experiences in Nigeria.
We did not need a visa to travel to the UK, your visa was stamped on arrival. The Naira was stronger than the dollar yes!!

But alas here we are today, in a dump. Maybe if has do with the movement of the capital to Abuja. It seems since then the giant of Africa has gone to sleep.

On a serious note we have no one to blame for the current state of affairs but ourselves.

The Almighty has blessed each man (woman) with 3 pounds of pinkish grey matter called the brain. He does not discriminate all brains function the same way. We are the only species who can change our environment in as much as environment tries to condition us.

Wake up giant of Africa. One small step of progress from Nigeria will pave way for a giant leap of the black race.

Politics / Re: Oluremi Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, Obasa Are Not Lagosians - Bode George by Babanah: 12:19pm On Jun 20, 2020
Bode George himself is of Angolan heritage. His ansestors were taken to Brazil from Angola. Later some 'Afro-Brazilians' mainly those from west Africa but including those from Angola decided to return to Africa. They therefore settled in Lagos (Brazilian quarters on the island).
That's why you have some lagosians with foreign or Portuguese names. 'George' being one of them.
I think if you look at Bode George's facial features. They don't look Yoruba or west African to me. Only DNA test could confirm.
Finally, I have been to Salvador Bahia Brazil several times and you can tell those of west African ansestry from these from Southern Africa. Those from southern African usually have premature white curly hair and big round eyes.
My instincts tell me Bode George's ansestors are from Angola or lusophone Southern Africa

[quote author=Cyberterror post=90762090]How California beats Texas economically is still a wonder. Texas has more land size, vast oil resources, produced several Presidents who sited numerous mega federal agencies in the state yet, they still lag behind California. I guess nothing beats human resources. It reminds one of the situation in Nigeria. In Nigeria today, I see 3 states who hold the kind of economic potential that California holds in the US but are not harnessing it. Lagos is well ahead on the way but will only reach its fullest potential if their politics of patronage is jettisoned.

1) Delta
2) Ogun
3) Imo

Texas is a bit rural (south) in my opinion
Politics / Re: NIGERIA! Wake Up. by Babanah: 10:30am On Jun 17, 2020
In addition I suggest Lagos (Eko Atlantic) be converted to a special administrative region/free trade area.
There will be liberal immigration rule for this SAR.This will encourage Nigerians in diaspora to work live and invest in this SAR. Of course this will include foreigners as well.
This SAR will have its own executive, legislature and judiciary. However defence matters will be the responsibility of the federal government of Nigeria.

The official currency in this SAR will be the US dollar and Naira. The territory will have its own financial regulatory authority. Banks and financial institutions will be encouraged to set up in this territory but Nigerian and foreign. We may have local Naira lending rate vs offshore rate to further galvanise the Nigerian economy.

Local income tax will be paid to the local authority within the SAR but corporation tax will be paid to Abuja for distribution among the states and federal government in US dollars.

Anyone how owns a property or has lived in the SAR for over 2 years would be eligible to vote including foreign residents. Corporations will also be granted special voting rights.

Give this SAR one decade an the world will see what the Blackman is capable of achieving.
