Buhari, commissioned Second Lieutenant 1963.
Sehu Yara'dua was commissioned Second Lieutenant 1964.

Dont know the politics within. Yaradua was the most senior at that time, he was col and was given double promotion to makeup for the office of supreme headquarters...

Murtala was not trusted by the British because he kept telling them he would like the north to be detached from the south.
