Anambra polls can’t determine shape of 2011, by Agbakoba
By CHINELO AGINA
Wednesday, December 15, 2009

Former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Barr. Olisa Agbakoba has decried the state of the judiciary, describing it as corrupt and dilapidated; saying that this trend has led to the collapse of the system

The Igbo’s have become the caricature of Nigerian politics

I do not know why Igbo people allow themselves to be the caricature of Nigerian politics? Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, while retiring Anenih, said he will expel him to Anambra State, and I found that very insulting. Not because Adams Oshiomhole said so, but because he was speaking the truth. We have allowed ourselves to be a laughing stock. Who is Obasanjo? Who is Anenih? Who are they? Are they from Anambra State? But we have admitted them, we have sold our birthrights to them. Can I go and interfere with the politics of Kaduna State or Kano State? No!

Even with all my contributions in Yourbaland, I still cannot determine or influence what happens in Lagos. When we were doing constitutional reforms, I told Fashola that after spending thirty years in Lagos and contributing to its development, if I cannot run for any elective office, why should I pay tax? Anambra people are the ones who are causing all these things. Hierarchy in Igboland is one of our problems. We are too self-centered, self-seeking and independent.

Every person is on his own. Igbo politics is in trouble. They do not understand politics. Rightly or wrongly, you can be a clever guy and not understand the game of politics.
Orji Kalu is one person that understands politics, whatever his shortcomings may be. He understands what it is to play the game and he knows how to play it. That is the lesson we should learn.

Didn't you support the OP as being honest with his assertion albeit "igbo"?.

I must apologize to my Igbo brothers and sisters but we are not yet ready to rule this country. We Igbos see leadership as a personal business and allow greed to eat our minds. The word BIAFRA is really eaten me up and I feel pity for those poor men who stand in front to defend BIAFRA. When an Igbo becomes president he is ready to kill his brothers cos they cant help their people. Look at Zik, he was there and did nothing for his people what made you think this present Igbo leaders will favour us? The moment an Igbo man steps on that sit, he will want to divide Nigeria and create the bloody Biafra.

If Coca-cola hire you, shey na Pepsi you go pay attention to?, does it make sense?

Awo was hired to work for and look after Yoruba folks within his own region, not Northern region or Eastern region and you're here calling him a tribalist because he did exactly what they hired and paid him to do. It's called  focused, dedicated and responsive leadership.

This has always been Igbo Nation's Achilles’s heel and self destructive attitude since day one, too much preoccupation with other people and what other people are doing, but never Igbo people or what's best for the Igbo people. Even on this board, it's the same attitude towards other people.

You see endless threads about other people, but hardly any addressing core issues withing the Igbo Nation. All the time, fingers are pointed outside the region and other people are blamed for all shortcomings and lousy leadership withing the region (Defiantly not saying lousy leadership is limited to the Igbo Nation)

How much time do you have left to worry about and take care of your own after spending all your time, days and nights criticizing and ridiculing other people while the same other people are moving fast ahead like they've been doing since day one?

Yet, the so called leaders of tomorrow runs endlessly and ransacks the internet for fossilized, irrelevant and useless issues just to point new sets of fingers and continue the same worthless visions cycle.

Fashola, Tinubu, Oshiomhole Renew Calls For Electoral Reforms
…As AC National Convention holds in Lagos

Dec 12, 2009 - Bigwigs in the Action Congress including Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) his predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and many prominent leaders of the party on Saturday called for a convergence of efforts on the parts of all democratic forces to ensure that every vote counts in the nation’s elections.

According to majority of the speakers who attended the National Convention of the Action Congress which was held at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos, every well meaning Nigerian must stand up and support the efforts of the Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER).

Emphasising the point, Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) said a revolution of progressive Governors has already started and landed in Lagos and Edo and will soon berth at Ekiti, Osun and Anambra States.

He said everyone is looking upon the Action Congress as the party that would change the course of events in Nigeria and urged the party members to keep the date with destiny to effect the change.

He said no one should make the mistake anymore of regarding the Action Congress as a weak party but the party of choice among all Nigerians.

He explained that from now on, the task before everybody should be that every vote will count.

He described the Action Congress National Convention as the Convention of all Conventions because it has succeeded in bringing national development issues to the front burner.

Former Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his goodwill message to the gathering tasked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to come out openly and tell Nigerians where they stand in terms of the Justice Lawal Uwais panel’s report.

He said despite the fact that the Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais panel was put in place by a product of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party has been shying away from publicly declaring its stand on the Uwais panel’s report.

Asiwaju Tinubu while speaking at the Convention explained that all democratically minded people are resolute to pursue the ideals of Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER).

He described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a party that is already digging its own grave through the succession struggle that is going on in the party when the President of the country is still alive.

While asking other like minded Nigerians to join the AC, Asiwaju Tinubu said the party will rescue Nigerians from the inept rule of PDP in the next general elections by sweeping it out of power.

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole charged the party to ensure that the foundation of the party is founded on the tenets of democracy.

He emphasized that the foundation for a credible election must also be seen in terms of membership participation in decision making processes and urged everyone to work towards realizing the full potentials of the country.

Governor Oshiomhole lampooned the PDP for disobeying its own constitution in the Anambra Governorship race, adding that this represents worrisome indicators for elections in 2011.

He said in Edo State, the Action Congress (AC) has succeeded in demobilizing the so called Godfather and demonstrated that he is no more than a vegetable.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in his address said Nigeria is in a near state of collapse as if the country is mourning.

He added that the PDP is politicizing the sickness of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and not resorting to constitutional provisions to remedy such situations.

The former Vice President charged Nigerians to insist on the application of the constitution for the present situation because the country has already stopped working and is drifting backwards.

He called for the adoption of two party system for Nigeria as the country is drifting to a one party state, adding that PDP cannot provide true democracy for Nigeria.

The National Chairman of the Action Congress, Chief Bisi Akande in his State of the party address lamented that things have been going from bad to worse for the nation with massive youth unemployment and crises in the educational sector.

He added that the PDP has been using the seven point agenda to defraud Nigerians through reckless expenditure and muzzling of the opposition.

He urged the party members to close ranks and subsume individual ambition for the party’s collective interest.

The Secretary of the Party, Dr Usman Bugaje in his address urged all members of the party to work together for the change which everyone has been yearning for.

He urged all Nigerians to eschew politics of big men but embrace politics of ideas as it is only a change of the way politics is practiced that would ensure that the people come first.

Among positions of national officers filled during the Convention were that of National Secretary, National Organizing Secretary, National Financial Secretary, Deputy National Auditor, National Welfare Officer and National ex-officio South East and North Central.

Among those present at the Convention were Deputy Governor, Prince Sarah Adebisi Sosan, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, RT Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji, First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs Abimbola Fashola, former Governor of Osun State and Chairman of the Action Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, former Governors Niyi Adebayo of Ekiti State, Lam Adesina of Oyo State, Dr Chris Ngige of Anambra State Governorship Candidates in Ekiti and Osun States, Dr Kayode Fayemi and Engineer Rauf Aregbesola, members of the State Executive Council, members of the State House of Assembly, National Secretary, Dr Usman Bugaje and several members of the National Assembly as well as party faithful from all parts of the country.

Abuja is not a state, it's called Federal capital Territory  FCT.

We're talking about states generating electricity. Cut through the chase and just tell me Abia and Akwa are enjoying uninterrupted power supply.

Abeg stop posting all the meaningless rubbish.
PoliticsRe: Babatunde Fashola For President by babapupa: 11:44pm On Dec 13, 2009
Like I said, only a fool spends his people's money on dumb projects like power generation in Nigeria. Call it IPP, PPP or CCC, it makes no difference because you and your people go still remain in darkness.

Why spend your money on what's not gonna be yours at the end of the day, what you have no control over, what you can not transmit to even your state house talk less to your own people?

And Akwa Ibom and other states are JJC in this area, Lagos state tried it before when Akwa Ibom was still in diapers and it didn't work because by law, every MW got to go be fed in the national grid, same with all your IPP jargon. Is Lagos enjoying uninterrupted power supply? Nope,

Is Akwa Ibom enjoying uninterrupted power supply today? What region of the country is enjoy uninterrupted power supply sef? All they have is license to generate, not to transmit.

[b]

The ceremony to be performed by the state governor, Godswill Akpabio, will commemorate the completion of technical construction of the first phase of the plant expected to generate about 190MW of electricity to be injected into the national grid. The plant is located adjacent to the multi-billion naira Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) plant.

Though the technical construction of the plant, initiated by the immediate past administration of Obong Victor Attah, attained almost 100 percent completion status more than two years ago, its operation and supply of electricity to the national grid was delayed as a result of the non-completion of the construction of the 47-kilometre-long transmission line designed to to convey electricity from the plant to Eket, where it will be injected into the national grid.

Afam VI Power Plant, a critical plank on which President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua is anchoring his dream to generate 6000 mega watts by year end is living up to it as about 450mw is now ploughed into the national grid from the plant.

The minister also saw that Afam VI was steadily generating 450mw which is already going to the national grid, and that additional 200mw being produced from the heat turbines would join the national grid in the first quarter of 2010.

Are you not confirming what I said before?. It means that because Fashola denies the rift doesn't mean they don't have one. It's either the servant is disobeying his oga and following the people's mandate which I pray is the case and the oga is mad that his investment is not bringing dividends as he hoped. There is no amount of decorum that will hide the glaring truth.

That being said, Mr management & leadership expert, you are yet to answer the question in bold. How can a cobra give birth to a lizard?.
