You're the ignorant one, to be honest... Why compare a Lagos with the UK, even if the present ratings of the Lagos is higher than the UK?? Do the two places even belong in the same sentence Just take a looking at the GDP, spending etc.. If Fashola isn't ignorant, he would have compared like to like...

Comparing Lagos to the UK is like comparing Switzerland's/Luxembourg's economy to America's economy... No matter how messed up the American economy is with any type of ratings lower than that of Switzerland - there will never be any basis for comparisons....

Why didn't he compare Lagos' economy to the City of London's(not the whole London) economy?? undecided undecided

I don't even see the need for this unnecessary anger and misrepresentation of what was said.

All you have is your personal opinion of what the governor should have said which is ok, but the governor didn't lie, he made a factual statement.

You can not dictate to the governor what to say, how to say it and even how to use his facts.

Why is this boiling your blood? Abi some kind of crime was commited ni?

No. They've accepted that they are oppressed by a state govt that abdicated its responsibility, and they have no choice but to comply with their oppression, by offering to do the work that the govt is paid to do.

You must be one of the local govt thieves who sit on their fat asses collecting taxes and expecting the traders to do the jobs THEY were elected to do. Go around the world and show us where ordinary citizens are responsible for ''removing abandoned vehicles and sweeping their streets'', as opposed to that being a BASIC local govt function. When exposed people try to educate you on how things are done, you prefer to remain in the bush. Tragic.

This is the reality..

In his response, President, Ladipo Auto Centre Executive Committee (LACEC), Iyke Animalu, assured the governor of the union’s and traders’ readiness to comply with the relevant directives towards immediate evacuation and disposal of refuse and removal of whatever might impede free flow of traffic on the roads, so as to have the market reopened.

“The union will do whatever it takes to ensure that it does not disappoint the governor and make sure the market is made a business-friendly environment for traders and customers”, he assured.

It is precisely because of the ABSENCE of a daily cleaning regime, which ought to be organised by the govt, that the trash built up to that level. It didn't get that way in one day. Use your brain and stop thinking like a fcking ret.ard.

Only jungle animals trash and degrade where they earn their living for any silly excuse or reasons.

The state issued many warnings before the shut which the traders did not deny.

So since the state have issued so many warnings, did the market traders expressed to the state to do this and that before they keep their market clean?

Do you need other people to tell you before you practice cleanliness? Do you need the state to provide you with anything before you clean your house?

This is all the govt needs to do. Get local cleaning firms to clean up the place every evening, and levy the traders. The traders shouldn't even have to be involved in the process. Theirs is just to pay their levies. Finish. Instead the govt is making it out to be the traders' fault that the market is dirty. Absolutely ridiculous. The problem is poor local govt organisation and ineptitude.

He said under no condition must they trade or solicit for customers on the main road, they "must remove all shops attachments built round the market/canals, remove all derelict and abandoned vehicles packed within the market as far as the expressway, remediate all forms of degradation on the roads and market area, sort out waste management issues with LAWMA as they cannot continue to dump into the canals, ensure total cleaning of the entire market and adjoining streets which they have degraded, among others.

So please tell us what the state failed to do that prevented the traders from keeping their market clean.

At this instance, Bello said the state government ordered the closure of Ladipo Market after several meetings and warnings with the market leadership and traders about the deteriorating state of the market.

He added that the environment "is seriously polluted and degraded with oil; surrounding canals are dumped with full and half engines spare parts and human waste, while illegal structures were built along drainage path and all the canal setbacks have been turned to shops and trading points.

"A visit to the place shows street traders have taken over the inlet and outlet to the market. Residents petitioned the state government about lack of access to their homes and property. These traders have degraded all the major access roads to the market which needs remediation rehabilitation," he stressed.

Bello, however, gave some of the conditions, which the commissioners explained, might warrant re-opening of the market included: complete removal of all illegal structures and attached structures built along canal paths and that traders must be confined to the main markets.

He said under no condition must they trade or solicit for customers on the main road, they "must remove all shops attachments built round the market/canals, remove all derelict and abandoned vehicles packed within the market as far as the expressway, remediate all forms of degradation on the roads and market area, sort out waste management issues with LAWMA as they cannot continue to dump into the canals, ensure total cleaning of the entire market and adjoining streets which they have degraded, among others."

There is not an issue of absolving party and indicting another, It is issue of shared responsibilities. If the Local Government that owned and operated the Ladipo Market did not provide the amenities to cater for the environmental eyesore everybody knows such entity like Ladipo will generate, it is humanly and morally wrong for the Fashola government of Lagos State to treat the traders as culprits in this matter. What has the Lagos State government of Fashola done to solve the environmental problems of Ladipo Market?

Exactly what amenities are you talking about or would like the state to provide before you clean up your place of business? Like brooms to sweep with?

Okada don't want to obey law and kill people and still want to be left alone and they still have people supporting and backing them.

Market people too want special rights to disobey state laws, turn the market to another hazardous zone and filthy colony and they still have people supporting and backing them

Illegal settlers creates slums, pollute our lagoons with raw human sewage aka shittt inside the same water they fish and eat from and dangerous materials, block canals and drainage systems, yet they want special rights to disobey laws and still want the government to give them free housing for disobeying the laws of lagos state and they to have people backing them.

It's only in Lagos sate people pull silly stunts like this because the state is too lenient and conciliatory..

Change is not easy, but it's gonna come by any means necessary.

We can not keep existing like jungle animals in a lawless society where everybody want special rights to do whatever they want and be left alone.

Badcoin: Whose responsibilities is it to dispose after you clean? This is where the government is failing mightily.

You can not dispose off before cleaning, you clean first, then you either hire private trash disposal people or set up pick up service with LAWMA.

...but you frst have to clean up your filthy place of business which is not the government's job to do, that's your job. These are adults and they don't need the government to tell them to clean their shops, it's personal hygiene common sense.

Other issues to deal with before the place is opened included no more blocking the canals with trash, no more armed groups, weapons and criminal elements in and around the market.

Cleanliness in places of business in sane and orderly society is the norm and standard, but Nigerians are used to dirtiness and they lack personal responsibility now you have the government stepping in like your parents telling you to clean your room.

Nigerians are unruly animals and they need strong hands and tactics to wrestle them away from their bad and dirty ways of doing things. What a shame.
