what then do you think should happen to GEJ and the PDP with all the deplorable federal roads in Lagos without streetlights after spending and embezzling over 20 billion dollars on still lousy power supply that couldn't light up the same road you are blaming the governor of Lagos state for?

KnowAll: Street light on ikorodu road after 14 years of Tinunbu/Fashola regime. Hmmmm, i am not impressed, if that is their legacy to Lagosians after running d economy of Lagos since 1999 . We must not look at Fashola's regime in isolation.

Both men with d kind of money they see on a daily basis calling them a colosol failure will not be an understament. Give me Lagos's 3 billion dollars revenue and watch a new city emerge from d lagoons of Lagos.

Of what use is your streetlight without electricity to light up your street? The people who's job it is to supply electricity needed to power the street lights are not failures, but the ones who against all odds and overcame this national shame and barrier by making sure that with or without federal electricity, these street lights will have uninterrupted power supply are the failure? Is this a joke?

1. We are celebrating uninterrupted power supply that took care of your aso rock uncle's responsibility and incompetency because they failed to provide us with power, but you are here rejoicing and commending some worthless sub station that can not guarantee power to in any inch or part of Nigeria.

2. You criticized people for celebrating the new bridge in Ogun state while the corrupt and incompetent man you carry on your shoulder did not build a chicken cage when he was a governor and even as the president of Nigeria.

3. You criticized people for celebrating street lights in Lagos state when in fact the governor was positively addressing the incompetence of the corrupt and incompetent man you carry on your shoulder and their inability to provided stable electricity. Since Nigeria's independence, Fashola is the first and only leader in Nigeria to guarantee uninterrupted power supply to streets and government institutions so we know given the kind of money your uncle and hos cronies swindle left and right, Nigerians will have uninterrupted .

4. Without all the oil money and powers available to the corrupt and incompetent man you carry on your shoulder, Fashola can guarantee uninterrupted power supply to so many streets, many government offices, hospitals and clinics, your Aso Rock loser can not guarantee anybody or street in Nigeria uninterrupted power supply.

Your idiocy is no news to me on NL, I see people like you on NL everyday badmouthing real and positive projects and leaders who are actually delivering while you foolishly support and commend incompetent losers who are yet to deliver anything with all the money at their disposal. You are the crooked and incompetent people you support and they are you, you represent failure, corruption and everything ailing Nigeria because I don't see how you can badmouth competency and positive infrastructure and at the same time embrace useless people with not a single achievement to their name.

Just listen to them. They are not even addressing the state's grievances or coming up with plans to clean up their mess and have the place opened as soon as possible, instead they are talking about money money money as if the state's concerns means nothing and all that matters is their money. The state is losing money too and obviously they don't care because this issue is more than money, this is about the environment that we all share and we have to protect it for future generations.

please STFU. I live in the USA so I can tell you what developed country looks like. I should be last person celebrating on this thread.
yet I'm still celebrating Fashola because I know he is a doer!!
you talk about the 70s but forget that we only achieved independence from Britain in 60s. Of course all the British structures were still brand new then. besides they are probably restricted to just a few places in downtown lagos and for the rich. How many people owned or drove cars in the 70s?

Fashola is doing great work even by USA standards because I know the governor in my state of New Jersey isn't doing half of what Fashola is doing. America is pretty developed so the work of politicians and leaders in American is much smoother and easier. Most of them will not be able to do what fashola is doing in lagos, the largest city in Africa! they will give up and peg it on backwardness of Africans. Most of the Ameicans aren't doing business in Africa for the same reason. it's hard to work with the people and the society. Fashola is an intelligent man. He could easily move abroad and have a easy life there. but instead he chose to serve his country. let us give praise where praise is due, abeg.

Some may say that street light is "nothing" but in the African context and especially, Nigeria, it is an achievement. let's be honest with ourselves. we should give praise where praise is due. Things are harder to achieve in Africa and everyone knows that. Even the best construction company building street lights all over USA will come to Nigeria and be dumbfounded because it's just harder to get things done in a less developed country. So please, let us keep encouraging our governor because I know he is working hard and it shows!!!

also, for some of the igbo folks on here are talking trash about how things are "better" in Enugu or Abia. Talk is cheap and at the end of the day, they are all flocking to Lagos and other parts of SW. It is migration pattern that is usually the main evidence/determinant of development. So if Enugu was so developed as you say, they why are you still all flocking to Lagos? Please change your bitter attitudes and celebrate progress with us. no reason to be bitter. why should good thing be paining you? I've seen the Engugu thread and folks there celebrate little things as construction worker holding a shovel. so why are you mad that we are celebrating street lights? At least we have completed pictures to show for it. not just minor constructions.

1. Yes is you can not obey stated laws and warnings. The people of Lagos state elect their leaders to exactly what they did regarding this filthy market which is to protect and look out for them. The environment belongs to us all and we must all do out best to protect it and no business, tribal or financial interest and considerations comes first before our environment and public safety.

3. It's the state's responsibility to protect and uphold the laws of the state because we are not living in a state without laws or in a lawless jungle where people make up their own laws and form their own governments at the expense of other Lagosians.

4. We as a society can not accept and tolerate any situation where traders are armed with dangerous weapons while innocent lagosians innocently shop and buy goods with danger all around them. This is a public safety issue that must be addressed by any sensible and responsible government.

5. It's everybody's civic responsibility and obligation including the traders at this market to clean and protect their place of business and protect the environment in general because the hazardous materials and fluids they discharged indiscriminately contaminates and destroys our underground table water and same with the filth and rubbish they litter the canals with which constitute another major threat regarding flooding and pollution.

The way many of you color every sane action designed to protect us all clearly shows serious backwardness and lack of any personal qualities to function in a progressive and lawful society.

Fashola Lights Up Jibowu To Maryland Underpass On Ikorodu Road

The seven kilometers stretch of Ikorodu Road from Jibowu flyover to Maryland Underpass popularly known as the Independence Tunnel on Monday night glowed brightly as Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Monday switched on the lights, stating that it demonstrates the State Government's commitment to safety and security more than anything else.

The Governor said when the idea was muted over five years ago that it was possible to light up Lagos at night, many said that it was not doable and doubted the resolve of the government, adding that from one street to two streets, the government has developed the capacity to light up many parts of Lagos today.

He added that the work continues and that in one single year from one street to two streets at a time, the state did over 40 streets and is going to do more this year.

Speaking specifically on the Ikorodu Road project, the Governor declared: "The project involves the erection of 192 poles stretched through an existing road and that was why it was most challenging. This is because in other situations we had the street lights built into the construction of the road project. And I believe that over 250 new bulbs were installed in the project. I must thank the resourcefulness of our contractors for this."

"This completes the lighting up of the main artery road in the heart of Lagos from Central Lagos where we started on the Marina, right through Eko bridge, down to Alaka through Agege Motor road on the other side all the way to Oshodi and now from Jibowu to Maryland. The work continues and by the time we complete the lighting up of the Mile 12 to Ikorodu town, the whole of that stretch driving from Lagos Island into the heart of Ikorodu would be lit up. We are taking it one pole at a time, one street at a time, but we are on our way", the Governor said emphatically.

Speaking earlier, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Obafemi Hamzat said the new street lights which is from the service lane of Jibowu from the flyover area to Maryland Underpass, the Independence Tunnel, is connected to PHCN and powered by two sets of 250 KVA generators.

He added that from today, the people passing through the route can enjoy their movement because it will be well lit.

He stated that the lights are made up of 91 4000watts double galvanized amps,67 250watts double amps galvanized lights, 11 250watts double cup galvanized bulbs and another 15 250watts wall bracket types.

The brief ceremony was witnessed by members of the State Executive Council including the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engineer Taofik Tijani, the Special Adviser on Public Private Partnerships, Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi among others

Not holding breif for the lagos government but state allocation and lagos IGR is grossly inadequate to fund all these projects. The blue line alone takes $1b( N160b and rising because of instability in building materials) , the Lagos- badagry 10 lane expansion takes N220b. Now I havent mentioned the mile 12-ikorodu (N60b) and other smaller projects but important projects littered across the state. Lagos IGR as at June 2012 was I think N23b, State allocation I think is N72b yearly(i think but not sure). Also remember that if lagos waits to take the tax, time will be going so how it is done the world over is use bonds, or loans(at low interest say 1% ) to fund porjects and pay at your conveninet on a monthly basis or so, which is what I think the man is doing. Fashola is no saint but I will personally prefer him in government compared to GEJ.

Add billions in pension payments and 5 billion salary bill for the the second largest civil service in Nigeria.
Monthly igr is only 23 billion so multiply that by 12 and you get less than half if the yearly budget. Add the monthly allocation to that and its still way below the yearly budget to serve 20 million people and they still have to borrow to get the same budget other states pass without borrowing or any headache to take care of 2- 5 million people and you still don't see them doing anything close to what lagos state is doing, you don't even see them inspect projects talk less commission projects. So if a state with 20 million people is able to deliver so much, what about states with free oil money with 2-5 million people and nothing much to show for it. Funny many of the usual lagos state haters are from these do nothing states, but they act as if their own do nothing states where more money than lagos state goes our of the window year after year with nothing on the ground to benefit the people of their states, but they try everyday to commit suicide when they hear anything lagos state.

Billyonaire: Stop regionalism today so you can grow in the ambiens of natural jurisprudence. Nepotism breeds a cultural divide which is anti-sacrosanct with principle of nationalism. Lagos cant do much without the Federal Government. Much of Lagos revenue comes from Tax on Oil Companies, Filling Stations, Oil Magnets properties, Petro-Tank farms, logistics companies taxes, Staff of Oil & Gas firms, tenement rates on properties own by Oil boys, and even the adverts by these companies. If Oil & Gas related firms move, major malls will close and cinemas are not watched by the poor peasants and lagos will become like London - a Beautiful tax laden heaven with little or no creativity in fiscal manoeuvrings. I hope you are lettered enough to understand my grammatical symphony cos many of you went through school by the schools did not go through you. Lagos is what it is cos of the Federal Government continuous inputs on an hourly basis. I love Lagos.

Lagos is what it is because of federal government? na joke? how did they do it? by slowing us down like denying our first metro rail attempt decades ago.? By leaving their infrastructures in Lagos in shambles and rotten that we have to spend 50 billion of our own money to take care of their responsibility?

What are these capital investments and are the same capital investments not in other states ?
