Topic: Headaches during pregnancy

#Intro

1. Headaches are one of the most common discomforts experienced during pregnancy.

2. Headaches may occur at any time during your pregnancy, but they tend to be most common during the first and third trimesters.

3. Women who have regular migraine headaches may discover that they experience fewer migraines during pregnancy; however, some women may encounter the same number or even more migraine headaches.

4. If you are pregnant, it is important to talk to your health care provider about any medications that you may be taking for headaches.

#Causes

What causes headaches during pregnancy?

· During the first trimester, your body experiences a surge of hormones and an increase in blood volume.

· These two changes can cause more frequent headaches.

· These headaches may be further aggravated by stress, poor posture or changes in your vision.

· Headaches during the third trimester tend to be related more often to poor posture and tension from carrying extra weight.

· Headaches during the third trimester may also be caused by a condition called preeclampsia, which is high blood pressure during pregnancy.

Other causes of headaches during pregnancy may involve one or more of the following:

Lack of sleep
Low blood sugar
Dehydration
Caffeine withdrawal
Stress (due to many changes)

#Management

What can you do to treat headaches during pregnancy?

The best way to deal with headaches is to avoid them altogether.

Avoiding tension headaches is easiest when you follow these tips:

Practice good posture (especially during the third trimester)
Get plenty of rest and relaxation
Exercise
Eat well-balanced meals
Apply cold or heat packs to your head
If you are not able to prevent headaches, there are still steps you can take to help them go away. During pregnancy, you want to try and relieve your headache by natural means if possible.

Pain relief medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen are not recommended in most pregnancies; however, acetaminophen may be recommended by your health care provider.

#Remedies

Natural remedies:

Warm compress around your eyes and nose, If you have a sinus headache,
Apply a cold compress or ice pack at the base of your neck. If you have a tension headache,
Maintain your blood sugar by eating smaller, more frequent meals – this may also help prevent future headaches
Get a massage – massaging your shoulders and neck is an effective way to relieve pain
Rest in a dark room and practice deep breathing
Take a warm shower or bath
Applying heat or cold to the sides of the head, the eyes, or along the back of the neck is one of the best ways to reduce or relieve the pain associated with a headache.
Heating pads and cold packs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but most require using a microwave or the freezer first.

Alcohol

Yogurt

Aged cheese

Peanuts

Breads with fresh yeast

Unfortunately, headaches are a normal part of pregnancy; however, you should be able to experience some relief.


Contact your health care provider:

Before taking any medications

If you do not experience any relief from the remedies above

Your headaches get worse or more persistent

You experience headaches that are different than normal

Your headaches are accompanied by blurry vision, sudden weight gain, pain in the upper right abdomen, and swelling in the hands and face

Although my edd is September but I just so weak. To eat na problem because everything is bitter and leaves funny taste in my mouth. if I don't eat sickness gets worse.

Am on third mission, team December 2020 edd 10 th of Dec . I came back with plenty small chops , oya sit and take yours .

Hey mamas and team December 2020

Unfortunately i am no longer in the race. Scan done some weeks ago indicated no fetal pole but with gestational sac and subsequent scan weeks after diagnosed molar pregnancy. A suction curettage was done immediately after the confirmed scan diagnosis, the placenta and fetal tissues removed were sent for histology and analysis to confirm the diagnosis. Results from the histology indeed confirms its molar pregnancy luckily for me it's a partial molar pregnancy (2 sperms fertilizing an egg).

I am sure some may know a thing or two on the rigours and risks associated with molar pregnancy, so as expected i have been advised not to get pregnant for atleast 6 month.

Well i took the whole experience in good fate, at the moment i am primarily focused on my baby girl(she is 8 months old) while also working from home etc. I will Start trying again in January. I believe strongly by God's grace i will be part of team November 2021.

We are doing fine oo, I feel serious pain on the left side of my stomach, the pain goes with paracetamol but comes back 2hours later, I hardly sleep these days because of pain, went for scan yesterday and everything is fine, baby is doing so well and nothing was seen to be the reason for the pain, I will be seeing a doctor tomorrow though....
I'm sure my bump is bigger than yours I use it to intimidate all those road safety people that want to see fire extinguisher and C sign, I just tell them to open the boot by themselves because I am too heavy to come down from the car .

Teamies how are we doing? Happy Sunday ooo

It is too bad that we don't answer roll call... D importance of this roll call is check on everyone of us and know that we are doing good and moving together... Pls pls mamas try and come and answer roll call it is very very important. It is only few mamas from team December that are active on this thread ..... Make una no fall my hands ooo

On the other hand my energy level is high now ooo I dey rock this pregnancy no be small oo am drinking enough water now but I still eat a little.. If I try to eat big next thing na vomit oo. My bump is showing very well now . Time to take our first TT injection if u have not taken d shot inform ur doctor on ur next appointment.

If you never register for antenatal this is d time to do that so you will be checked and monitored oo we want healthy babies ooo... We need to be taking our drugs regularly no skipping ooo, drink enough water and eat fruits and vegetables for your blood levels oo.

I know some of us are showing already biko enjoy d privileges it is not easy to carry belle

Those with toddlers abeg try and get some rest no matter how d make d house busy all d time ( speaking from experience oo)

Hello mamas please help me.


Was feeling massive headache for 2 days so I went to hospital to register for antenatal and it was discovered that my BP is high 140/80. I didn't had such through out the first pregnancy.

Dr PRESCRIBED Aldomet 500mg tabs morning and night for 2 weeks.

Please am scared about the dose which I told her that being the first time, wasn't it to too? I thought they will start with small dose and not jump to that high does at once. Dr said no that it's okay for me.

Please is that how they PRESCRIBE the drug? If I start taking it will the bp normalize and I won't need the drugs again? I'm scared of long time use of drugs. The thought of taking it alone is frecking me already.

Please don't waka pass.
