At least for the foundation, first floor, and second floor block walls. 6 or 5" blocks are not so much recommended for story buildings because it defines the size of your columns and beams. For a two decking house, please use 9" blocks.

An exception to this rule is if you have a competent professional from the planning stages of the building, who would have calculated the loads of the house and distributed the weight in such a way that the structure is planned to be built with 6" or 5" blocks.

In this case, I believe they were trying to use 5 inch blocks to form the walls of the toilet and bathroom and that of the parking store in the kitchen but other than that 9 inches was used in all the areas.

Do you think introducing 5 inch blocks even for the small areas is plausible or should we stick to 9 inches throughout the project?

In the Nigerian context, the installation cost would be prohibitive for domestic use and recurrent maintenance cost and expertise would be afurther problem.

The main reason central air-conditioning system is not prevalent in Nigeria is the air duct system (see photos) and the way we build in Nigeria. In the USA, ceiling decking system is all wood so the air duct, water piping and electrical wiring can be passed through the void and space of the wood frames.

But in Nigeria we deck with concrete, so for a duplex how would you install the air duct system if not to think out some other ways to pass the duct through the concrete which could be very costly or unsightly.

Again the poor state of power supply is another problem. You will need a heavy duty generating set to power a central A/C which most homes seldom use. Most homes for cost cutting reasons use 1KVA GenSets which can power a single unit A/C.

Lots of times, we see a fine duplex with air condition boxes littered all over the walls.

Is there any structural/architectural argument as why homeowners shouldn't embrace using central air in their homes?

The healthcare budget in Nigeria is less than N1 trillion naira.

Out of that money, we expect to fund over 40 teaching hospitals, and a large number of primary and secondary care centers.

As a result, the cash is not enough, we don't have enough hands on deck, and the brain drain continues.

Ideally, the boy would have been carried by an ambulance to a teaching hospital with a neurosurgeon for immediate treatment. But that would cost far more than your average state budget,or even federal budget to sustain. And charging higher taxes would be met with resistance...so we do what we can with limited resources.

You cannot get $200000 health care at a cost of $20. It is just not possible.

Too bad this election is a choice between the incumbent incompetent,and the corrupt challenger...who has issues. And Nigerians too....who don't want to make the hard choices to get genuine change...

Dont forget each state has a budget and in it, they allocate Billions for healthcare, what are they doing with the money allocated for healthcare?

Yes, I stopped marketing this and other lands in the hope of some appreciation before making more sales. I even tell people who call on phone that there are no lands to sell at this moment. Raising funds by selling lands just to do a fence won't change much in my opinion. What I need is real buildings rising in these estates not just fence. It might be a better strategy to wait and watch for sometime.

I am looking for a land where buyers can build immediately after purchase, and I have my eyes everywhere, including Awka, Owerri and Umuahia areas but lands are now costly in many places.

Having estates where I wait for development of roads is not the way I planned this, I need to do something big, and I am bidding my time and keeping more funds around till when I will move for a new Land where we can build.

I will be very interested if you have any land for sale in Owerri.
