For the AC hopefuls,is there anyone in the house who knows when AC hopefuls will be called?.I think if AC hopefuls can have their dates sent to them the way done for TS guys,it will as well go along way in easing tension for AC hopefuls too.Am sure a lot AC awaitees will be getting disillusioned by now.

Relatedly also,regret mails to those who have not made it at whatever stage will ease tension too,as such persons will move on with peace of mind,instead of waiting endlessly,and not sure of what will eventually happen.

Please,FBN HRs viewing this thread,kindly do something to ease tension for AC guys.Reason being that:
(1)It will ease tension.(2)It will give those coming from outside Lagos ample time to prepare financially.(3)It will put FBN as an organization in a good light,as being humane.etc.

If there is any organization I have always prayed to work in,it is FBN.FBN, please don't dash that hope and dream.

I agree with your suggestions and I believe FBN management have plans in place for the AC hopefuls.

Wow! Good read right from the first page, I can only pray God blesses all those who made relevant contributions. Well, I have always had this "thing" (passion) for banking since childhood. I see bankers as super smart- Sanusi Lamido, Atedo Peterside, Otunba Subomi, Fola Adeola, the Late Tayo Aderinokun et.al comes to mind. However, all I have been hearing lately are not encouraging, they only threaten my passion for this revered profession. From allegations that it has been reduced to bringing in deposits by all means (hook or crook) and littering every street with "marketers" whose countenance is even enough to dissuade people from opening accounts and all that. We have heard them, seen them and read them in the papers. If they are so true, I think it ridicules the intelligence of the employees because I am, for instance, more of a "strategy" person and not just the "bros, do you have an account with us?" type. I even heard that a major criterion for finally getting an offer with one bank (I resist the urge to mention the name) after surviving the rigour of tests and interviews, is bringing in an initial deposit of nothing short of 2 million naira.

That said, I won't be deterred to ask some vital questions, now that I can get reliable answers here:

1) What really gets you ahead (executive/top management) in banking? Is it academic feat (Msc. MBA)/professional qualifications (ICAN, CIBN, CIS, CIBN etc) or years of banking experience or just your ability to bring in deposits? I have seen a couple of relatively young guys holding managerial and executive positions in bank excluding Uzoma Dozie of Diamond, Ladi Balogun of FCMB as it is widely opined that they smoothly rode on their fathers' influence to get such positions.

2) Some have argued that having work experience in consulting (especially with the Big 4's) is a better route to getting in and ahead in the banking industry. However, I have noticed that most guys from consulting are usually placed in Compliance which I feel limits their growth prospects. Kindly clarify.

3) What role, function or department would give an experience that would be useful in other industries?

4) Does carving a niche really makes you indispensable? I have been developing interest in Risk Management lately and I intend to take courses in this sepcialization and perhpas do my Msc therein or any other Finance related field (maybe Investment Banking) .

PS: Had a brief stint during my undergrad days with one of the South African banks in Nigeria and it was a worthwhile experience probably because they believe so much and are guarded by their values.

Alright. I already did.

Reading through recent posts left me with no surprises at all. The bouts of apprehension intermittently arising in the midst of hope is normal when faced with an uncertainty like this.
However one mistake we often make is trying to overthink and hyper-analyze such situations. Often counterproductive.
Obviously circumstances change and policies are unpredictable as we have just seen with recent happenings.
My take though, from my conversation with one of the HR personnel, is that people have already been scheduled for the next batch, from the list of those that had their documentation but were omitted from this recent invitations to TS. He did not just mention that but was apologetic for the delay and requested patience on my (our) part.

My advice, get busy (or stay busy if you're on a job), learn more skills, IT and computer skills especially, be on the lookout for more opportunities and never allow negativity take root in your heart.
You're not defined by one job opportunity or by a missed one. Your future is just beginning, keep dreaming and working.

I'm quite surprised you're asking this having come this far. This is a graduate trainee position you're vying for and consequent to your successful completion of the training you'll become a core staff of the bank.
I believe you already had your AC, have you previously been called for medicals and documentation?

Did you get the invitation for training school too?

I called one of the HR contacts and from his response, I think First bank is doing a kind of damage control with regards to the mails that were probably sent in error.

Several people who got the mails for TS without documentation will likely get another mail for documentation before the TS resumption date while those who had their documentation and medicals earlier but didn't get this current mail for TS will likely be called for the second tier of the TS (early next year, maybe January or February, my guess). He specifically said some people have been scheduled for the second batch of TS.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and wait patiently, all will be well, no doubt.

They asked when I did documentation and medical.. I confirmed that I haven't.

The caller - a Lady (didn't get her name) stated that some mails were sent from their system due to a glitch.

She however asked "I hold on to the mail and await further directives".

I think this answers a lot of questions. Thanks for the info.

Well, its quite unfortunate that some of us are in the dark... expecially after doing medicals... quite unfortunate those who did and have bn invited may not post anything here. Have fun everyone

It will be difficult for anyone to give an answer with any certainty as to what's really happening...by the end of the day, it should be more clearer, I believe.
Like someone suggested, the best thing to do is to send a mail to the HR contact who sent the invite for medicals and documentation (or any senior HR staff at the hdqtrs). The second option is to simply relax and let the whole scenario play out by itself.

Now, we are all adults and I expect that, if not for any reason, the fact that we all are here to contribute, encourage and learn from one another, should help us keep the bigger picture in view whenever distracting or even disparaging comments are made.

When two people live or work together, or even occupy the same virtual space like we all are doing now, there's bound to be frictions and occasional squables. The ability to manage those, without damaging relationships is very vital to success in any area of life. I plead once more with all parties involved, and any support casts, to sheath their swords and allow peace prevail.

Soon enough we'd all get past this phase of constantly visiting this thread and waiting for any new info, like Noah waiting for the waters to dry after the flood. We wouldn't want to carry any unnecessary bad blood with us.

First of all...abeg stop bickering over what cloyd9usher said or didn't say...all of us Don wait tire we are permitted to veer towards a little bit of "discontent" once in awhile...that said, your news just made my day after all the stress of going from office to office, the typical naija way, trying to do my clearance and round up my pg program once and for all.

I had planned to call the HR contact persons too myself (will still do) and the response you got just really made my day. It's in line with my gut feelings though.

TS will be this year, in fact, very soon.

Oga immunization has never been a part of the job description of the Nigerian Army. As a matter of fact in saner climes, they have no business amongst the citizens except in a war situation or under extreme national emergencies.

Whatever health care they had planned to provide to the populace could have been done through the Nigerian medical association or the ministry of health in the various states.

There is obviously still a lot of palpable tension in the south east following the recent operation and any action by the NA now should have been expected to be met with scepticism by the populace.

The rumours may have been wrong and indeed uncalled for but I still cannot absolve the Nigerian Army for interfering with the peace of the region for whatever reason.
Generally in Nigeria the sight of the NA is not greeted with cheers.
The spate at which they're encroaching into civillain space and taking over the duties of the police, One would wonder whether Nigerian has become a militarized state.

Why in the world would you have someone who is not the best qualified candidate for such a sensitive position "fill the role"
