Umm, Razor, last season, Arsenal had a better head-to-head ratio against the big 4 than any other team, yet we came fourth. How is it that this season you're saying that's what will determine the title this season?
Every win matters. The person with the best results wins the premiership. If Man u beat us home and away, and does the double on chelski and pool, yet draw every other match, they won't win.

MC Omo, can you please justify your statement " the lack of synergy in our defence"? what exactly did you see? What particular play makes you have this opinion? What is this based on?

You say there has been a "dip" in clichy's performance, yet you have no statistics to support it, yet you want us to "just look at it from a point of view that I am/was prolly expecting too much from him and overlook that".

Oga, it doesn't work like that. We can only make decisions based on what you write here, we're not mind readers. You say Clichy's form has fallen. We ask for some justification of the statement. We're not going to justify your statements for you. Surely you know that by default, this forum is aggressive, and not forgiving.

Anyways, it's all good. And Pool lost yesterday. I wonder what jackie's going to say about that.

Razorr, men you're funny.

The last I heard, UAE owns the emirates airline. Do you sincerely think Abram can buy off them? That'd be like Roman buying microsoft off Bill Gates. He don't have the cash babes.

Oga Somze, 1-0, and I'll have been chilled 2-0, happy and still chilled. 3-0, happy, smiling, yet modest. 4-0, I'd have said we were perhaps a bit lucky. 7-0? I'm ecstatic. Ecstatic I tell you!

Men, I can't at this moment definitely see victory for either team, love for my team or no. What I can definitely see is that there WILL be goals.

Somze has managed to do something that was previously impossible: To bring Gooners and scum together.

Heh heh, Guys, we should meet and do drinks - Gooners and Scum only! (We don't want anyone going around and whining that the <free> beer we gave him is flat)

Somze, I just watched it yet again. Here's a link so you can see.
http://www.livevideo.com/video/DCADA15410704AAE92782E88EFFDD015/arsslav.aspx

1st goal, lucky, but Hleb takes on 2 defenders, leaving other players free to make runs
2nd goal - lucky deflection
3rd goal - lucky as well, Keeper messes up
4th goal - Beautiful teamwork. Runs off the ball creates opening on the left, exploited by Hleb. Same as 5th goal by Walcott
6th goal Somze! This is PURE football. Doesn't get better (The commentator says the same)
7th goal - beautiful footwork by Eboue leaves Bentdner to run into open space.

That's 4 goals made by excellent football mate. Only 3 goals were from bad defending.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 12:49pm On Oct 24, 2007
Somze.
For a while, I actually agreed with you. But then I watched the highlights again, and I'll say this: Apart from the first goal (Fabregas), and the third (Walcott), this is simply not true. I agree that they may not be the best of teams, but they are definitely NOT a weak team. All the five other goals came as a result of constant passing, and trickery, mainly from Hleb. The goals may have been easy, but the play that led up to them was INSPIRED!

@Wormedup: It's not wise for me (or any other gooner) to compare a team that was unbeaten in about 47 games (not sure about the exact number) to a team that is unbeaten in 12 or 13 (still not sure about the number). What I say is this: The way they are playing is comparable to that of the 2003/2004 season. It's a bit early to decided whether this team is better than that one don't you think?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 12:24pm On Oct 24, 2007
Wormedup, your post is not quite, reasonable. Football is about teams and not individuals, otherwise Madrid would have won every UCL tournament in the last 5 years (galacticos and all). The team spirit is excellent, that's simply the truth.

Man U had a 7 goal margin? Against who??

There are only two teams in the history of the UCL that have ever had a 7 goal margin, Arsenal (of course) and Juventus.

Wayne rooney is the youngest english player to score a hat-trick in the UCL
Arsenal is the ONLY english team to score 7 goals have a 7 goal margin in a UCL match

Hahahaha, is this really Somze? Mate, you're now beginning to sound like someone else. Both teams played good football. Both teams won. Much respect to the Man U fans who have been perfect gentlemen, and haven't felt a need to come to the gooner forum to "justify" themselves.

This is the champion's league, there are no easy games.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 11:02am On Oct 24, 2007
Somze : Weak team? In the champion's league?? Surely you jest. Other teams have played against weak teams before, yet the 7-0 margin is the HIGHEST EVER IN THE UCL. Unless of course you're implying that we played the weakest team in the history of the UCL?

@Viera, i should o, I really should. To be honest, I wasn't sure the missus was going to let me go, new baby and all. I got my "visa" only around 15:00.
You know, I enjoy reading your posts, sometimes when I read stuff by other gooners, I wonder whether they watch football at all! Nobody is saying Gilberto isn't a good player, he is excellent and outstanding. He is also considerably better than Flam in my opinion. However, decisions like these have less to do with personal skill as with teamwork, otherwise Henry would probably still be at Arsenal.

This team has a massive bond that connects everyone together. Break that bond, and you end up with a group of very good players, but not necessarily a good team.

Regarding Pires - One of the very best Arsenal has ever had. But can you honestly imagine him playing in today's team? I sincerely can't.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 10:26am On Oct 24, 2007
I was saying to one of myb mates at 4-0: I bet Jens and Gilberto are sitting there thinking "f**king bollocks, how we going to get in the side now"
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 9:54am On Oct 24, 2007
Fantastic game. 7-nil to the Arsenal! I was even on the TV for a brief while (My bro called me and said he saw me). Nicklas seems quite confident in front of goal, and may end up being as important as Adebayor, if only he had the pace as well. Wonderful evening. I'm ecstatic!

Oh by the way - Without Hleb, Fab is bound to struggle. Hleb is a handful to mark and attracts defenders. This has the effect of freeing up Fab.

One more thing - Did anyone notice that Gill started playing upfield, and this made Fab drop back a bit? Flam ALWAYS sits back, allowing Fab space to run forward. It's kind of like the England midfield. Gerrard and Lamps are probably the two best midfielders in England. However, they both run up, leaving the defence exposed, and then both have to fall back. As a result, BOTH Gerrard and Lamps are unable to commit to an attack because they are always concerned with what's up in the defence. Bring in Gareth Barry or Hargreaves, and both Lampard and Gerrard play SUPERIOR football.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 1:56pm On Oct 23, 2007
@ Jackal
Favourites is very different from winner, as you know. Last season, Chelsea were favourites to win the premiership. Two seasons before that, Arsenal were favourites.

@ Joe b, two seasons ago, United didn't even go past the group stage, while Arsenal got to the finals. That is not good

TKB, area for area, united will come up tops. But that's nothing new, United, being a richer team has always had the tendency to have better players than Arsenal. But you saying that because of two players you will win is simply not true, you will win or lose based on your ENTIRE team's performance. No matter how well Hargreaves and Scholes play, if Ferdinand and Vidic mess up, you can still lose.

Emirates - TKB, come now, I consider you a reasonable and logical Man U supporter. We won that game IN THE MIDFIELD, and on the wings. Eboue was amazing, Rossy was amazing, Fab was amazing (the first goal started from Fab outplaying Scholes if you remember). It wasn't just Henry and RVP who were good. I'll tell you what TKB - we created so many chances that I didn't understand how we didn't win by more goals. And that was in my opinion, a weak Arsenal team. Same people as now, but now they are more experienced.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 1:24pm On Oct 23, 2007
Jackal, YOU are the king of referring to previous meets. We refer to previous meets in order to "counter" your suppositions.

The fact is that anything can happen on that day. Torres is a wonderful footballer, Arsenal is a good team. Either team can win at Anfield, Either team can win the week after. Once you admit this, then we're good. But knowing you, you're prolly going to start quoting statistics about how well Wazza and Apache played against Villa, which again is the past.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 1:03pm On Oct 23, 2007
@joeb, over which years? Which years are you talking about?

Arsenal gets seeded for Champion's league elimination bouts same as Manu. And you have still been unable to define what you mean by small team, let's start from there.

@TKB, last season, Scholes was outplayed home and away. Hargreaves is a great player, I agree, but saying he can "hold any team" is simply not proper, two men can't hold a team. Three attackers from any reasonable football team (even tottenham) will outplay those guys, so no matter how well Scholes and Hargreaves play, if you have a weak point somewhere else in your team, they can still be overrun. And by the way, neither of them have pace (Scholes was DEFINTELY wooden legged in the final third of both matches last season)

The questions are: Can Scholes outmuscle Flam? Possible, but unlikely. A lack of pace, and declining stamina will be his downfall. That said, he will probably have a good fitst half, and his experience will probably give him an edge sometimes.
Can Hargreaves hold Fab? Absolutely. If Fab is isolated, he will definitely be marked out by Hargreaves. However this only stops Fab from scoring, he'll still be able to pass the ball around albeit less efficiently.
