Jackie.
Wassup bro?

Here's my opinion - Fab v Zidane: Fab didn't go on to win the CL. Kaka did. And Kaka's performance WAS outstanding.

Under normal circumstances, I would rate Ronaldo and Kaka as very close equals based on skill. I however believe in my heart of hearts that Ronaldo is somewhat better. However in the ranking tables, UCL is rated higher than local leagues.

Unfortunately for me (and you), Kaka just may win it above Ronaldo simply because the UCL is rated higher than the premiership (Utter bollocks if you ask me - Derby country currently collects more money than any non-english country that doesn't progress past the group stages). It doesn't seem fair, but that's how it works.

That said, my choice would have been C.Ronaldo, utter pillock that he is.

MC, just because you disagree doesn't make you right. A few games doesn't make the player, but it DOES determine form. Flam is in form, whether you accept it or not.

Nobody has called Flam the best holding midfielder in England apart from you. What we have spoken about is FORM. Currently, Flam's form is better than Gilberto. His passes are more complete, and his workrate is higher.

Senderos on the other hand is only better than Bill in the air. He can't match Bill for pace, positional play, strength or experience. It's not the same thing.

MC Omo, Last season? Do you consider last season to be a typical Arsenal season? Last season Sunderland would have beaten us. So would Tottenham.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 9:30am On Oct 12, 2007
I beg to differ on this Drogba. Nah, he can't win it, and not just because he's black - George Weah won it once if I remember completely. I think C. Ronaldo was better than Drogba - Remember that winning this trophy isn't just about scoring goals.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 9:07am On Oct 12, 2007
MC, seriously, you have to realise that Flam this season has been much better than Gil was last season. He has scored, he upholds the attack, and covers the defence. Didn't you see the Tottenham match where he totally silenced Tom Huddlestone? Did you not see as he totally owned the central midfield against Sevilla? Now realise this - I respect Gilberto greatly as a footballer, but I have never see him play with the power and passion that Flamini has shown so far this season. If he keeps playing like this, there is no way he will get benched.

Jackal, no be your sidekick talk am? But you're quite right, it's not a very reasonable argument, it's just like arguing whether an ant is bigger than an elephant.

Bomboy is good, he's chilling with his mother, and encroaching on my sleep time every night, as well as my position as the alpha male in my house.

Razor, no vex, I actually thought you were serious about Sid being better than Owen.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 9:57am On Oct 11, 2007
Okay, I begin to wonder now if we have all been watching the same matches. Flamini, though not very fast has proven to be an amazing holding midfielder. He covers every inch of the field, getting involved both in offensive build-ups as well as covering the defence, kind of a cross between Makalele and Essien. Gil is a similar player, but he's not such a good attacker, he gives passes away, often breaking up Arsenal offenses, and doesn't have half the energy that Flamini has. Flamini switches from offensive play to defensive very easily, Gilberto is mostly less so.

At the moment, I still think Gilberto is the better player, but Flamini is definitely catching up pretty fast

TKB, I'm quite amazed myself. There goes Razor's reputation as a football analyst.

Wait a minute, did I just use the words "Razor" and "reputation" in the same sentencehuh

Cubes! Does it still exist? I used to hang out there a bit back in Naija. There was also that other place - one sports bar not too far from Mega Plaza. They served a manageable peppersoup and COLD beer.
TV/MoviesRe: I Need A Story Developer by Banderas(m): 4:02pm On Oct 09, 2007
Seun, this is not happening yet. What do you say you and I, and then anyone else who's interested simply put something together?

I'm thinking about a book with 4 or 5 key characters in different parts of the world, all having different experiences.

How about this: 6 kids grow up in Naija in the 70s or 80s, I'm thinking Akure or Benin. Their parents work for the government. The economy gradually crumbles, and they disperse to different parts of the world: One moves to PH as his dad secures employment in oil and gas, two or three leave the country (US, UK, SA), one moves to Lagos, and one remains in Akure.

They keep in touch, and from time to time their paths cross (The Lagos guy comes back to Futa for uni, and so is reunited with our man in Akure, etc). I'm also thinking a mix of races as well as tribes to spice it up.

For starters, let's get a script together with them growing up between late childhood, early teens all the way up to uni for starters.

Can we have 6 different people to write this? It's just an adventure for starters, also an excercise. It's an easy way to bring each other up.

If we get 6 people ( we need at least one girl to make it work) then I can map out the initial characters, and possibly a framework. Ideas as well will be welcome.

I'll be waiting for your input.

While this is going to be on a first come first serve basis, seriousness will be appreciated - deadlines will have to be met in order to keep the momentum going.

Let's see how this goes.
Poems For ReviewRe: The Linda-Bashiru Story by Banderas(m): 3:46pm On Oct 09, 2007
Seun, this isn't bad at all. Great story. It seems somewhere between a novel and a play. If it's a play, you need to add more "props" to it.

Actually, it reads like those radio plays my dad used to force us to listen to from the BBC back in the days. Cool stuff man, good quality.
LiteratureRe: Eragon Book3 (inheritance) by Banderas(m): 3:38pm On Oct 09, 2007
I read Eragon, and then I stopped. I'm a massive fantasy buff, but I found Eragon a bit light and feathery, I go more for the hard, tough stuff (lord of the rings, Robert Jordan: Wheel of time, GRR Martin Song of Fire and Ice, etc).

I may one day pick it up and read it, but for now, I'll pass.
LiteratureRe: Do You Write Foreign Fiction? I Do, Lets Talk! by Banderas(m): 3:36pm On Oct 09, 2007
Const. I totally feel you, honestly I do. Maybe I was a bit heavy handed in my initial appraisal. I still think you may need to get some more work done with that novel though, what you sent seemed a bit filmy and bland to me,

But then again, I'm not your publisher. I sincerely wish you the best of luck.
LiteratureRe: They Called Me Nigger: by Banderas(m): 3:33pm On Oct 09, 2007
Hi Beneli,
there were some "structural" irregularities that I came across very often. Below are some examples:

1 - We had been parked for a few minutes: Rather vague expression of time.
Is this "few minutes" a long time or a short time? I suggest you emphasize the few minutes with yet another adjective eg "We had only been parked for a few minutes" for a short time, or "we had now been parked for a few minutes" to signify the writers impatience with the length of time

2 -The driver of a white Mercedes Benz who was parked beside my uncle
It's the Benz that is parked, so this should read the driver of a benz "THAT" was parked,

3 the droning of the torrential downpour
Drone? Lagos rain doesn't drone - a bee drones. A wasp drones. I suggest you find another descriptor to describe the rain. How about the crashing of the torrential downpour, or the heave staccato/rythm of the torrential downpour

4 My luggage was in the boot of my uncles car and I was unsure of how I was going to get at it under the torrential down pour.
This is a repetition of an earlier paragraph where the character was wondering how to avoid getting wet

5“I’ll probably get that porter over there in the raincoat to help out with the luggage
Wrong choice of word - probably. Since the character had made a decision, it should be I'll try and get.

This is a nice story, and is a bit catching. It also contains some of the expectation that every good story should contain. However, at the moment, you need to work on the structure, when you use words, try and visualise the situation, and avoid ambiguities. You also more than once described the same situation.

Apart from that, excellent stuff!
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 2:40pm On Oct 09, 2007
Jackal, young players? yeah, young like Rooney and Ronaldo, as you have so often told us. Since when has that been a problem.

These young players (bar Henry and Fred) fought united last season as rookies. This season they are more experienced. That is what has changed - the level of experience.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 2:06pm On Oct 09, 2007
That, My dear Jackal, is what we call a blip.

I'll give it to you, last season Arsenal definitely didn't have the sheer power and character that manU had. Neither did Chelsea.

This is a different season. And this team has also changed a bit.

Five years ago, chelsea was a mediocre mid-table team. Now it's different. Things can change when you least expect them.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 1:36pm On Oct 09, 2007
Jackal, winning streaks don't win leagues. Even you have said that several times. Can you show me where Manchester United has gone a whole season unbeaten? Does this then mean that Manchester United lack consistency?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 1:11pm On Oct 09, 2007
Jackal, quick question:

You said that if we lost to Man U, we can no longer win the league. Does this mean that if we beat Man U, then manure can no longer win the league?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 1:00pm On Oct 09, 2007
Jackal: This is my heartfelt beleif

If Arsenal play well and Man U play well and there are no injuries, Arsenal will beat Man U at the emirates. The premiership is another matter. Arsenal have won the premiership and lost to Man U before, so why must this season be different? Arsenal has won the premiership 3 times, and only once has arsenal been unbeaten all season. In other words, our other two wins have happened in seasons when Arsenal lost some games. Why then do you feel that Arsenal can't win the season after losing a game?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 12:22pm On Oct 09, 2007
No, no, no no. Jackal you didn't read my post at all.

I mentioned the players in your squad who actually will play every game when they are fit. And I matched them with players in our team who would do the same.

Brown? Mate, Brown barely plays for England. Fletcher? No way, probably not even for Nigeria.

Jackal, you ask me to be objective, then in your next post you throw all objectivity out of the window. Having Rosicky and Hleb out of our team is the equivalent of you having Ronaldo and Giggs out of yours. Not Fletcher, not carrick, not Oshea and not Park.

And just by the way, the problem with united is still there, you guys can't last 90 minutes against arsenal. The final 10 minutes will be a nightmare for you
I say again, Giggs can't outrun Clichy. Nobody is speaking about "has acheived", you really really need to read my posts.

A-40, thanks for supporting my point.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 11:54am On Oct 09, 2007
Somze, I agree, they haven't won the premiership before.

BTW, Somze, do you remember I once said the same thing regarding Mourinho? Earlier in the season?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 11:51am On Oct 09, 2007
Jackal, but this is all part of football. Arsenal has had Gallas injured all season, Rosicky and lehman are also out. Injuries are part of football.

Also Jackal how many of these people you listed are first team players? I can only see Owen, neville, Vidic and the keeper, correct me if I'm wrong. These are matched by our injuries, and Gilberto not being fit.

There is NO true football fan who doesn't respect Man U as a team, but asking us to respect what man U is doing is taking things too far.

Here's the thing, the fact that you have all these injuries doesn't make you a better team. The fact that they play for their countries doesn't mean they are better than our lot - Fletcher, Brown and Carrick would NEVER play for a top rate national football team.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 11:40am On Oct 09, 2007
manU, words of wisdom there. But you do realise this is Arsenal. This is not Chelski or some upstart team. Arsenal has won the premiership before, and sometimes we have come from behind Man U to win.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 11:34am On Oct 09, 2007
Impaq - Flam for Fab? Are you an Arsenal fan?

In my opinion, before the sunderland match, Flam was by far the best holding midfielder in the Arsenal. His workrate was far higher than Gills.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 11:30am On Oct 09, 2007
Okay, I find it quite amusing that everyone says Arsenal can't win without Cesc and RVP. I was at the grove to watch the Arse second team play the newcastle first team and win. No Cesc, no RVP.

Guys, be not deceived. We still have Diarra who is a midfield genius in my opinion.

There are options, many of them.

And since when has Manchester United already had a blip? How does one injury (Rooney, Metatarsal) equal a blip? Come on people!!!

There seems to be this weird opinion that Arse has played their best, while Manchester United has had their worst. I beg to differ. It's still day 10, majority of games are yet to be played.

Jack - these 4 years you're talking about, Arsenal did win the premiership in one of them if I remember correctly. The fact is that as things stand, Arsenal losing to Manchester United is not a total disaster - there still is a game in hand. And all this has still not taken into consideration the fact that Manchester United is going to play Villa and Boro before coming to the grove. I wonder if your defence can catch Adebayor in full flight. Oshea vs Cesc will be interesting. Giggs wasn't as fast as Clichy even when he was young.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (Old) by Banderas(m): 11:11am On Oct 09, 2007
United hasn't had a blip yet. They are playing the way they are going to play for most of the season. They did have a good game against Wigan, but we all know that's just a one off.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 4:05pm On Oct 07, 2007

Who's on top of the premiership table? Who? who? who who who?

So much for some predictions, and a lot of gibberish about "unwinding"

Jackal - the goal was scored before the red card. And we notice that you have nothing to say about the disallowed goal.
