Politics / Wike Shift Indefinite Lockdown In Phalga And Obio/akpor Till Sunday May 17th by bankole200(m): 7:32pm On May 13, 2020
A STATE-WIDE BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY, NYESOM EZENWO WIKE, GOVERNOR OF RIVERS STATE ON WEDNESDAY MAY 13 2020.

My Dear Good People of Rivers State,

2. As we all know, the restoration of the total lockdown order in Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas was to take effect from Thursday, May 14th 2020.

3. However, while on routine monitoring, I observed how difficult it has been for residents to access money from their banks to make purchases during the Two-Day window that was given.

4. This difficulty has, no doubt, prevented most residents of the two affected Local Government Areas from preparing and making adequate provisions for the upkeep of their families when the lockdown returns.

5. Time and time again, we have said that the lockdown is a necessary measure, universally applied, to mitigate community transmission of the covid-19 pandemic.

6. Our own situation is not and can’t be different. Covid-19 is not only here with us; it is increasing in number of infections as we recorded 16 new cases for today, the highest since the index case, which goes to confirm not only my personal apprehension for our State and the need to be d tough in our mitigation strategies.

7. And so, there is no room for politics in this matter. We must discharge our abiding duty to use the primary weapons at our disposal to combat this virus and contain its spread, lest we regret the consequences of our inactivity and indiscretions.

8. We understand the consequential difficulties, but what we can do in the circumstance is to appeal to the public to endure the attendant discomfort as inevitable sacrifice for the common good of all.

9. Suffice to mention that no deliberate harm is ever intended or targeted at anybody neither are we happy with the prevailing hardship on the people as a result of measures we have adopted to fight this deadly virus.

10. But, the overall interest, security and wellbeing of our people remain our primary motivation for what we have done and will continue to do to combat and protect our State from the Covid-19 scourge.

11. In consideration of the foregoing, the concerns of our people, and the need for residents to replenish their supplies, especially, the State Security Council has decided to impose a night-time curfew and review the effective date of the complete lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas from the 14th of May 2020 to Sunday 17th May 2020 by 8.00 p.m.

12. Consequently, there will be:

(i) a night-time curfew in Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas from 8.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. on Thursday 14th May 2020, Friday 15th May 2020, and Saturday 16th May 2020.

(ii) while the total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas will immediately follow from 8.00 p.m. Sunday 17th May 2020 until further notice.

13. Furthermore, all residents are again advised to comply with all other established measures, including the compulsory wearing of face masks and the closure of our land, sea and air boundaries and entry routes, which are still in force.

14. We expect residents to make good use of the new Four-day daytime window to purchase, restock and prepare for the total lockdown.

15. Once again, thank you for your cooperation as we continue to do all we can to stop the spread of this virus in our State with your support by staying at home and staying safe.

16. Thank you and God bless you all.

Governor Wike announces temporary lifting of lockdown for residents to restock foodstuffs and medicines

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has announced the temporary lifting of the total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas for two days only, with effect from Tuesday 12th May 2020.

Governor Wike made the announcement in a State-Wide broadcast on Sunday night. He said that the total lockdown will be lifted on Tuesday 12th May, 2020 and Wednesday, 13th May, 2020.

Governor Wike said that the lockdown will be reinstated on Thursday, 14th May, 2020.

He said: "Consequently, we have given due consideration to the propositions on the way forward by well-meaning citizens of the State, and after a cautious review of the situation, decided to implement a partial relaxation of the lockdown measures, to enable residents to have some fresh air and replenish their foodstuffs and medicines.

"To this end, I hereby announce the temporary lifting of the total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Governments Areas for two days only, with effect from Tuesday 12th May 2020.

"All shops, supermarkets, and malls can open to the public for Tuesday and Wednesday, 12 and 13 May 2020.

" Similarly, all hospitals and banks can also open and provide full services to the public;

"While oil and gas companies are required to submit the list of their staff on essential duties to Government, note that there is no ban on the lifting of petroleum products from depots and other receptacles.

"The total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas will be reinstated on Thursday 14th May 2020 and remain until further notice."

Governor Wike said all other established restrictions under the Executive Orders on social distancing are still in force.
He said: "Compulsory wearing of face mask or scarfs in vehicles and public places;

· closure of all land, sea and air borders and entry routes into the State; and

· closure of all open markets, including slaughters, hotels, guest houses, cinemas, bars and restaurants; and

· ban on gathering, including public burials, weddings, and religious gathering of more than 50 persons.Once again, thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

"Please note that our enemy is invisible. stay at home, maintain social distancing, wash your hands regularly and stay safe."

He said every measure the State Government has imposed was dictated by an assessment of the state's situation, the trend of transmission and the conviction that it was the right thing to do in the circumstance.

"As a Government, we are doing our utmost best, in the face of daunting challenges, to prevent COVID-19 from taking hold in Rivers State; to stop any possible community transmission of this disease before it is too late.

"And we shall continue on this trajectory because the alternative would spell a greater disaster for our State and our people.

"More so, when these are not arbitrary measures but fully prescribed and backed by the ordinary laws of our State, especially, Executive Orders numbers: 1 to 6.
"So far, all our measures and actions are not arbitrary but fully prescribed, guided and backed by the ordinary laws of our State, especially Executive Order numbers 1 to 6, which apply equally to all persons throughout the State. As a Government, we are obliged to enforce our laws, and in the present circumstance, we have done so without fear or favour," he said.
He added: "We equally made it loud and clear that in the fight against COVI/D-19 there would be no sacred cows; no double standards, and no sentiments of any kind, whether political, ethnic, religious, status, emotional or otherwise.
"In the last few days we have pursued with vigour and secured several convictions against those who intentional violated our COVID-19 containment laws in the same way others States are doing.
"The forfeited trucks to be auctioned by the Deputy Sherriff were not confiscated arbitrarily by the State Government, but by the orders of our Courts."

Governor Wike stated that the demolition of the two hotels in Eleme was done in line with extant laws.
He said: "Similarly, we acted against the hotelier because, apart from using the facility to jeopardize the lives of our citizens in violation of the extant law, the owner audaciously unleashed thugs lead by the Eleme Local Government Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party and inflicted severe injuries on our task-force members who went to enforce the law against the continued operation of the hotel.
" As we speak, nobody knows the fate of the lives of most of the victims of that brazen and deadly attack given the severity of the head injuries they sustained.
:And so, we’ve done no wrong as all our actions were taken in good faith and justified by, under and within the purview of the Executive Orders, which have neither been challenged nor set aside by any competent court of law."

The Governor said he remains focused on protecting Rivers people.

He said: "Therefore, while we welcome genuine criticisms directed towards strengthening our intervention measures; it is no use joining issues with uninformed critics and social media legal practitioners who, blinded and prodded by sheer politics, bias and hatred, have opted to demonized and paint our lawful and responsible actions in bad light.

"Granted that we may not have totally achieved our targets, but we are convinced that, so far, the lockdown and the other measures have impacted greatly in containing and preventing the onslaught of the pandemic on Rivers State.

"We therefore thank the entire people of Rivers State for the overwhelming understanding you have shown even as you continue to endure the pains of the restrictions on your wellbeing and fundamental freedoms."

Simeon Nwakaudu,

Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic Media.

10th May, 2020.

Politics / Fayemi Suspends Aide Indefinitely by bankole200(m): 9:04pm On Apr 29, 2020
Ekiti State Government has ordered the suspension of one Sola Durodola indefinitely.

Durodola who is a member of the Covid-19 Task Force was suspended for the incompetence he displayed few days ago as well as his highhandedness.

Roundoffnews gathered that Durodola shot a video where he was making mockery of a father who had come to report his son, for violating the stay at home order.

In the video, Durodola who is not an health official also certified the suspect as free of covid-19 a situation that generated negative reactions.

The statement reads”The attention of the Ekiti State Covid-19 Taskforce has been drawn to a
video clip in circulation where a man refused to allow his son, who just
returned from a trip outside the state, into his house until he had been isolated
for 14 days as stipulated by NCDC protocol for preventing community
spread of COVID-19 in Ekiti State.

“The Task force commends Mr Femi Adeoye, for refusing to cover-up his
son’s travel history and for denying him access into the house without
confirming his COVID-19 status.
Mr Adeoye epitomizes the Ekiti ethos of selflessness, which places greater
premium on the collective good of the society above personal and emotional
considerations. This is the core of the Values Orientation policy of the
Fayemi-led Administration.

“We also consider it necessary to inform members of the public that the
video was recorded about four days ago, by one of the security men attached
to the Fajuyi Pavilion, where the Enforcement Taskforce uses as its base for
coordination of daily operations.
The security man who recorded the encounter is neither a health worker, nor
qualified or authorized to determine the health status of the young man. So,
none of his actions or misstatements reflect the capacity or preparedness of
the State Taskforce to combat the COVID-19 virus.

” The officer in question has been suspended pending further investigations, for acting outside the jurisdiction of his scope of authority.

“Following the encounter, the young man has been in the custody of the State for the past 4 days, and has since been taken to one of the designated quarantine centres, where he would be for 14 days, in line with laid down procedure that dictates that anyone who sneaks into the State, would be quarantined for fourteen (14) days, at their own cost. His samples will also be taken for testing in order to ensure he has not been infected in the course of his travels to high incidence areas of the country.

We implore members of the public to emulate the patriotic zeal of Mr
Adeoye, and promptly report to the Ekiti State Covid-19 Taskforce, any out-
of-State traveler who sneaks into their neighbourhood, or places of abode.
This is to safeguard against the likely health hazard that such returnees
portend for the larger society.

Health / NEWSCOVID-19: Witches Attack Apostle Suleman by bankole200(m): 3:14pm On Apr 26, 2020
The Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AFAW) has attacked Apostle Johnson Suleman of the Omega Fire Ministries, Auchi, Edo State for demanding that government allows pastors into isolation centers to pray for COVID-19 patients.

AFAW had earlier warned Nigerians to take the ravaging Coronavirus seriously and stop falling victim to scams.

Leo Igwe, founder of the Nigerian Humanist Movement, called for the sanctioning of Apostle Suleman in an article sent to DAILY POST on Sunday morning.

He said the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) should caution Suleman, “over his recent utterance urging the government to allow pastors into isolation centers so that they could pray for COVID-19 patients.

“At a time that the death toll due to COVID-19 is rising locally and the pandemic is expected to spike in Nigeria in the coming weeks, Suleman’s declaration is very unfortunate.

“In a video that is circulating on social media, Suleman asked the government ‘to permit us, let us go there’ (referring to the isolation centers).

“He noted that persons with the gift of healing existed and ‘two, three’ of them should be allowed to go and pray for the sick at these places.

“Apostle Suleman’s prophetic statement is utterly insensitive and irresponsible and has the potential of undermining the efforts by the government to contain the spread of the virus.

“It is difficult to imagine that any reputable pastor could utter such words at this time. As one of the leading Pentecostal pastors in the country, Suleman should know that many pastors and Christians in Nigeria and beyond look up to him for guidance and direction.

“He should know that his pronouncements have weight, implications, and consequences on public life and public health especially at this time that COVID-19 is ravaging the world.

“Suleman’s statement is misleading because he implied that prayer could heal a COVID-19 patient. Unfortunately, this is not the case. If prayer could heal a person with the Coronavirus, the WHO would have said so.

“Instead, the global health institution has made it clear that there is no cure for Coronavirus at the moment. It has advised people to practice social distancing, washing of hands, and wearing face masks to reduce the infection.

“Allowing pastors into the isolation centers will contravene the WHO guidelines and contribute to the spread of the disease. The WHO has urged against touching infected individuals or having close contact with patients.

“Even if the government denies pastors access to these isolation centers as one expects, such reckless utterances could still jeopardize efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

“Suleman’s statements could get some pastors or believers to try praying or laying hands on COVID-19 patients privately at their homes or churches. Such a move could accelerate the infection as it did in South Korea.

“So, NCDC should sanction Apostle Suleman and send a strong warning to other pastors and clerics who could still be under the illusion that prayer could heal COVID-19 patients.”

Get a police report, court affidavit, hope you have your passport number with you? because you will need it. Then you make an application for a replacement at any immigration office close to you. Though an approval will be sought from Abuja immigration office before they can proceed.
