Literature / Jumping To Conclusion? by bankoleben(m): 6:51am On Aug 18, 2015
One of the inspiring stories of patriotism to come out of the 2012 London Olympics was that of Manteo Mitchell, an American athlete who ran a distance of about 200m on a broken leg. Manteo, a quarter miler, was a member of the US 4x400m relay team that eventually won the Silver medal in the event.

Being a race that had been dominated by the Americans for decades, most people expected the first qualifying round to be a stroll in the park – even without the injured talented duo of Jeremy Wariner and LaShawn Merritt. There was therefore a sense of surprise when Manteo, who took the first leg of the relay race handed the baton over to the next athlete second from the last position. Though the other three members of the team did make up for the lost time and finished joint winners of the heat, that didn’t stop the criticisms of his performance.

Fans were quick to condemn his effort, enraged that with the depth of talents available to the USA Track and Field, such a ‘poor’ athlete should never have been part of the Olympic team. Some of the criticisms turned to personal insults.

Few hours after the race, it emerged that Manteo, who had been treated for an injury sustained from a fall at the Athletes’ Village a few days earlier, suffered a fracture to his fibula during the race and had to run the final 200m on a broken leg!

When interviewed after the race, he confessed that he was tempted to stop running along the way but persevered because he noticed that other members of the team were anxiously waiting for the baton and didn’t want to let them down. He went through the pain barriers – at the risk of aggravating the injury, and by extension putting his career on the line – not to let his nation down.

Just like the ignorant critics, we are sometimes tempted to jump to conclusions without making adequate checks when we see things not go the way they should. We find it easier to condemn than offer a helping hand, or at least investigate. A little more questions, a little more enquiries, a little more seeing from the ‘other side’ may change our outlook about a situation, and that may be all that’s needed to offer a helping hand instead of jumping to a wrong conclusion.

Sharrapp you fvcking Idiiot, can you point out the South African "mercenaries" Jonathan hired, which were the "game changer"?

For the avoidance of doubt, there has been and still is no evidence that Nigeria hired "mercenaries" who "changed the game" for us. Colonel Eeben Barlow the chairman of sttep and a regular beegeagles blogger has refuted this ridiculous claim on many occasions.

All missions were carried out primarily by the Nigerian Army, led by the Nigerian Army MSF.

Maybe when you learn to respond to posts without throwing tantrums like a kid, you'll earn a response.

When double tongue is the order of the day, facts need to be set right
1. Zero air force to
2. Is this all Nigeria can afford to
3. GEJ did not buy anything to
4. small country can easily acquire this....

The problem was that the fight against Boko Haram dragged on for far too long. If Boko Haram was quashed early enough, no one would care to know if the military is ill-equipped or not.

The game changer before the election was the hiring of South African mercenaries and not necessarily the purchase of new arms.
GEJ had over four years to equip the military, why wait till six weeks before election?

Science/Technology / Thousands Flock To 'sin Free Facebook' by bankoleben(m): 10:00am On Jul 08, 2015
A group of Evangelical Christians in Brazil has launched a social network where swearing and erotic content in any form is completely banned.

The creators of Facegloria claim the site has attracted 100,000 members since its launch last month.

There are 600 words which are forbidden on the site and an "Amen" button for expressing appreciation for a post.

Ummaland, a social network for Muslims which launched in 2013, currently has around 329,000 members.

It includes "extended privacy settings" for women and daily Islamic inspirational quotes.

"We are creating Ummaland on Islamic values, no small talk, no boasting, no gossiping and backbiting but focusing on the message that really matters," said co-founders Maruf Yusupov and Jamoliddin Daliyev in an interview shortly after the site launched.

Spreading the word

Brazil's Facegloria is currently only available in Portuguese but other language services and a mobile app are also planned.

Brazil has the world's largest Roman Catholic population.

"On Facebook you see a lot of violence and pornography. That's why we thought of creating a network where we could talk about God, love and to spread His word," web designer Atilla Barros told AFP.

Gay material is also banned from the social media platform.

Mr Barros and his three co-founders were working in the office of Acir dos Santos, the mayor of Ferraz de Vasconcelos, when they came up with the idea.

Mr dos Santos has since invested $16,000 (£10,000) in the start-up.

"Our network is global. We have bought the Faceglory domain in English and in all possible languages. We want to take on Facebook and Twitter here and everywhere," he said.

Religion and technology often intertwine, programmer John Graham-Cumming told the BBC.

"There are some [programming] languages which have some religious symbols, the most notable is a language called Perl," he said.

"It was written by Larry Wall who is a Christian, and who has expressed that Christian faith, and within the language there are little clues about that. One of the key words is 'bless' - you can bless something, and it has a technical meaning."

Developer Terry Davis spent ten years building his publicly available Christian operating system, TempleOS, which is full of Biblical quotes and references.

"TempleOS is God's official temple. Just like Solomon's temple, this is a community focal point where offerings are made and God's oracle is consulted," reads the operating system's charter.

Religion / Re: The Word 'Forgiveness' And The Concept Behind It. Whats Your Own Definition?. by bankoleben(m): 8:39am On Dec 28, 2014
Bible only asked us to forgive, not forgive and forget.

When you truly forgive, remembering the pains of the past will not bring hurting feelings but will only remind you of what God has brought you through and you'll bring glory to His name.

These Mandisa's lyrics explain it better:

"What Scars Are For"

These scars aren’t pretty
But they’re a part of me
And will not ever fade away
These marks tell a story
Of me down in the valley
And how You reached in with Your grace
And healed me

They remind me of Your faithfulness
And all You brought me through
They teach me that my brokenness
Is something You can use
They show me where I’ve been and
That I’m not there any more
That’s what scars, that’s what scars are for
what scars are for

Erase, rewind
Wish I could every time
The hurt, the pain cuts so deep
But when I’m weak You’re strong
And in Your power I can carry on
And my scars say that You won’t ever leave

They remind me of Your faithfulness
And all You brought me through
They teach me that my brokenness
Is something You can use
They show me where I’ve been and
That I’m not there any more
That’s what scars, that’s what scars are for

I see it on the cross
The nails You took for me
Scars can change the world
Scars can set me free

They remind me of Your faithfulness
And all You brought me through
They teach me that my brokenness
Is something You can use
They show me where I’ve been and
That I’m not there any more
That’s what scars, that’s what scars are for
They show me that’s what scars are for
What scars are for
What scars are for

The probability of guessing an MTN Voucher number correctly is calculated as 1/12! = 0.0000000021

The probability is so so small. Almost zero.

The chances are definitely higher than that. This is because there are many recharge cards, not just one. The higher the number of valid recharge cards available, the higher your chances.
