Doesn't make sense Secondly, was the mortician involved in kidnapping or death of the victims? If a client comes to deposit a corpse in his custody, should he have rejected them? What exactly was the poor guy supposed to do? |

pahars: Maduka making a mistake in a major tournament is normal.Lets us not forget this guy is just 22, it is a learning curve but am sure he will come better and whether people like it or not Maduka is going to be the undisputed no 1 of the super eagles for many years to come, you cannot overlook a goalie playing regular football in major leagues in europe(he will improve with time)Even Enyeama at the age of 22 I doubt if he was already playing in Europe. We have seen wonderful 23yr old keepers in this tournament. If you're good you're good, if you're bad you're just bad. No in betweens. |

Mujtahida: Does not mean it cannot be found outside the league. For me, it can be in or outside the league. You stand better chance finding one atleast one decent goalkeeper in this league. We are talking 40 goalkeepers here at least. Remember Vanzekin? He wasn't even a top keeper in the npfl but he was constantly decent for Siasia teams at U20 and Olympics. But you can't mention great keepers at home and call Vanzekin that shows the depth of talent we have back home if one is interested in looking. The current goalkeeper crisis we have is due to Emmanuel Daniel's ill adviced journey to South Africa. The guy should have been better placed now to be number 1 for Nigeria if he stayed back home after the Rio Olympics. He traveled to South Africa and lost 2 years of his development. The reason he made that journey was out of pressure to play abroad after winning the Nigerian league with Rangers and being very good in Rio. Bros, what I can tell you is that we lack good strikers in the npfl but you see goalkeepers? Almost every team have a solid guy between the sticks. I'm talking of natural talented keepers not the Uzohos and Okoyes. |

Mujtahida: I simply do not agree with you that the solution is the NPFL. The solution is in finding a quality GK whether in the NPFL or foreign league. The solution is not tied to a league. Assuming we find a quality GK from a university sports club or foreign league, what would you do since you insist that the solution is in the NPFL, you would reject him? We don't have many goalkeepers outside Nigeria. The sample size is small compared to the npfl where you have about 40 goalkeepers ie 2 in each club. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Barryseal: 12:36am On Jan 26, 2022 |
Mujtahida: In spite of the bolded, tomorrow he will still repeat the same thing about our best players or GK being in the local league. Enyeama had world cup experience before winning the caf champions league with Enyimba. Enyimba won the champions league in 2003 /2004. Enyeama was Nigerian's number 2 in 2002 n kept against England. The solution to the GK crisis is the npfl, that's where you get them raw and have the national team goalkeeper coach earn his money by developing them. Uzoho and Okoye have very low celine and very limited raw skillset. Both of these guys won't start for midtable Npfl clubs like Lobi Stars and Dakkada let alone Kano Pillars, Rangers and Rivers utd. Ask any league observer. |

daveP: Despite the disappointment, which is expected, we still are the better team compared to other African teams going to the mundial, historically. Fans are getting impatient and rightfully so, cos things don't seem to change. Dynamics too. We don't beat chest or look all talented but we do better than those with such packaging. If this Afcon is anything to go by,the no African team that qualifies would perform any new shockers. Not even Senegal.
The Iceland match is the latest memorable event at the mundial. But against top teams, the Spain match is still the best performance. I don't understand what you mean that we are the better team compared to other African teams going to the Mundial. Our world cup preliminary round qualifiers was poor and ultimately saw the coach loose his job. We couldn't even beat a ragtag Tunisian team in the 2nd round of the Afcon. But somehow we are the best team going to the Mundial (we haven't even qualified yet). When you say historically, are you saying Nigeria has better records at the world cup than the rest of Africa? Please there was nothing memorable about the Iceland match. The first half was a bore fest while the 2nd half was just enough to beat Iceland who historically are the smallest country ever to qualify for the World Cup whilst making their debut. Chest beating about winning Iceland tells a sad story of our current state of football. |

Sportilitica: Good question. What is exactly our plan if we even qualify? Afcon is our only chance of a silverware at senior men's football and also a decent shot at FIFA confederations Cup. Cameroun got to the finals when they lost Foe back in 2003. The world cup is simply above our level. Infact the last memorable match we played at the world cup was Spain in France 98. Quite perplexing people saying they liked being kicked out at Afcon 2nd round so as to focus on world Cup qualification. Very queer thinking there. |

Actually, I got distracted by the world cup playoff draw and I wanted the Eagles home early, as a wake-up call in order to give me a better outing in the double header against Ghana. I felt if we had stayed longer at the AFCON, the boys probably would have been complacent against Ghana. Now that they are hurt by this loss, they would wanna atone for it by qualifying for the world cup. I'm not perturbed. Let me ask you a question. What exactly are we going to do at the world Cup? What is the objective going to the world cup? We couldn't get to the Quater finals of the Afcon, do you think we have the potential to go deep into the world cup knockout rounds? I have heard people say they prefer to go out of the Afcon now and make the world cup as if we are really going to play more than 3 mandatory games in Qatar. |

Odunayaw: Exactly, the pressing energy we brought in the group stages was non existent in the first half It was that hard pressing style that won the hearts of people. Every watcher of the game crowned Nigeria as champions in waiting because of that energy which we brought in the group stage especially against Egypt who we pressed to death. It's perplexing we played the first half as if we were jetlagged. The Tunisians traveled by road and air through 1000km. But we were the ones jetlagged. Incredible stuff |

codemaniacs: SE wasn't predictable, SE allowed the Tunisians have possessions which gave them confidence and opportunities..
then another issue was Awoniyi was non-existent which is also due to the Tunisians having possession..
Tunisia came to sit back and defend against S.E but it was the S.E that was sitting back and defending..
S.E also had a potential penalty which VAR didn't review...
It was as if the referee was against us...
S.E did not start with the same approach, same tactics and same system they used in the group stages... In the group stages the SE were closing down opposition players from the moment the match starts but against Tunisia the S.E didn't close them down... This is so on point. You really watched the game. Kelechi and Awoniyi were strolling around the pitch in the first half. They didn't trigger the hard pressing which was the advantage of playing with 2 strikers. |

TheGoodJoe:
We had 13 shots in the match. We kept creating chances with a man down. Iwobi brought in energy and keep in mind it was an attacking sub. You still had Chukwueze and Simon on the pitch.
So how do you want him to play Ejuke along with Simon and Chukwueze?
We played well yesterday. We got at the Tunisians. We did not take our chances. Then the red card made it difficult for us. Haba.
Iwobi was playing well before the red card. So how can you criticize the change? The first half was a disaster. The Tunisians would have scored within the first 10 mins. We only started playing and pressing hard when we were a goal down. The powder puff over confidence killed our boys. They expected to win by walking around the pitch in the first half. |

Ndidi was left as a lone DM, it's not surprising Tunisia's goal came from the midfield, albeit a badly exposed midfield.. Why didn't Eguavoen bring in Onyeka to help out Ndidi? as well as take control of that midfield? He kept throwing more attackers yet the midfield was neglected.. So you know all these but you're hyping how we will deal with Ghana even before the ball was kicked. Ghana and Tunisia, who have better players? Lol |

drDoom3: There was something Eguavoen said in the post-match interview that made me realise that he is a good coach, but not an excellent one.
He said that you cannot change your playing style in the middle of a tournament.
Every excellent coach changes their playing style IN THE MIDDLE OF GAMES THEY ARE NOT PERFORMING IN, let alone in the middle of a month-long tournament.
Football is like chess. I am participating in a chess tournament. I have a specific opening sequence I used to win my first three games. In my fourth game, my opponent who is higher ranked plays a move right off the bat that shows he knows what my opening sequence is and he is ready to counter it. What do I do? If I continue with my sequence, I will be at a disadvantage because my opponent knows what I will play and is prepared. Every good chess player will IMMEDIATELY improvise.
From the first ten minutes, it was clear these Tunisians knew exactly what we planned to do and they were ready for it. A simple move Eguavoen could have made could have been to tell Chuks and Simon to switch wings. Very simple move and it could have messed up the Tunisians gameplan because the 3 guys marking Simon would immediately be confused and have to switch responsibilities to other guys unprepared for it. The Tunisians didn't do anything extra ordinary to win. We basically gave them this win. In the first half I was screaming that we were giving them too much space and respect. We backed off Tunisia, no high pressing. Aribo said it in the post match interview that we gave them too much respect. We did not play like this against Egypt. The Tunisians were surprised the way we played because they came in to the game with a mindset not to loose by a wide margin only to see us backing off and respecting them, this gave them courage. We were the hot favorites to win this tournament, that's how highly rated we were. If they lost by 2/0 they would have been happy but we kept backing off I don't know why. If we played Egypt like that, no way we would have beaten them. I don't know if Eguavoen asked them not to press the scared Tunisians. We only came out to play after conceeding and with 10 men you could see the Tunisians were scared and played like they were the ones with red card. Imagine if we played the first half with that much pressure. They would have been pinned to their 18. It was that first half disaster class that caused this loss. |

Karlovych: Dude chill, he can learn a lesson from this and improve. Even Ikeme at 22 wasn't exceptional and was constantly shipped out on loan to league 1 and league 2 clubs in England. Also top class goalkeepers have days when they are comical from time to time and this should be a learning point to the coaching crew to scout for more players, not just goalkeepers. So many carpenters were present in this team that went to Afcon. If this was a first time offense, no problem but this guy has been showing absolute lack of goalkeeping talent. It's just like he was picked to play in goal because he was tall, not because he was any good in catching a football. |
