Unlike what you may be used to in Umudike, teachers and students have confrontations all the time and there is more likelihood of a gun going off from teacher to student than that teacher ever stopping a mass shooting. American schools have big compounds and playground; however, they are usually a single building. i.e. all lassrooms and teachers/admin offices are in that one building. The schools will usually have one main entrance often times with double doors and other single doors for exits. Note that the gym and indoor spoor are usually also inside that one building.

The NRA and Trump have both called for having guns at school in the past. However, guns are banned at the NRA convention for safety reasons in previous years i.e.
(stopping the threat at the source instead of a gun fight). Same NRA are also banning this year. You can see the hypocrisy. They know gun control works.

Let us imagine teachers having Assault rifles strapped to the back of teachers just in case a mass shooter barges into the school or classroom. You know, a pistol won't cut it and won't be a fair fight

There are 130,930 schools in the USA.
Multiply it by 4 them by $100,000. That's north of 50 billion dollars per year.

Simple truth is that the states can't afford this.
As per the federal level providing grants, there are other competing projects that need funds as well.

Maybe the states with lax gun laws can approach the NRA for funds.

Police were called when the shooting started in Texas, but I think they got scared of the assault rifle and stood back. They must have heard the sound of the type of gun going off.

There is no law that requires them to intervene. They need to go home to their family too.
