Egbon, there seem to be a dearth of information concerning the ipowerplus.
I have searched everywhere, nothing tangible. Even users are afraid to share their experiences... Lol
Abeg if anyone has any info, please share.

From the datasheet......
For 5kVA:
No load power consumption <50W
Saving mode power consumption <15W

For 1-4kVA:
No load power consumption <25W
Saving Mode power consumption <10W

From various reading on solar groups online, the above seems to be the range they mention they experience.

@Barezzi...

Thanks. Maybe I'm missing something.... or dull!

If I use this contactor plus timer, how do I get the contactor/timer to select between Inverter supply and PHCN, seeing as both are fed into the same DB?

No vex o... just help me break it down small small.

Thanks!

@ house
Many thanks for your "plentiful" suggestions on how to manage solar versus utility supply to single loads earlier. I am back for more expert suggestions and opinions.

See a snapshot of my solar install.....

a) With this, how can I truly ensure a switch from PV to PHCN supply after my timer cuts out on a single load e.g. fridge as below? I would like to retain inverter supply to all loads in the house (I want to have the flexibility to choose to switch say an AC on during peak sunshine hours) so do not want to split my loads to essential and non-essential. At the same time, not sure how to use the contactor/timer to swap since both supplies are on the DB. Abeg, helepu!

b) The more I look at the below, the more I think I'm missing something or doing something wrong. Your comments welcomed please.

Thanks|!

Pls, I am looking to re-ignite this conversation on timers and contractors.

If I put my fridge for example on a timer plug, in order to maximize my consumption during peak sunshine hours ; how can I ensure that if NEPA brings light, that it can feed the fridge despite my timer plug haven switched off supply?

I'm sure there should be a way around it.

Pls help.

Secondary market is becoming more lucrative and interesting.
The wait for two weeks is gradually fading away. You can now reinvest your upfront the next or same day you got it.
The minimum outlay for investment in TB is also becoming slimmer.
More longer tenors are now available through the secondary market.
Invest today and get your upfront today is now in vogue through this same secondary market.

I reinvested my upfront the same day I got it at 18.5%/ 349days, got another upfront that same day. Waiting till Monday to reinvest this upfront again until coz today is Saturday. I have turned this to habit. Doing this makes me enjoy the true yield of about 23% and the miracle of compound interest. This is cool, I guess!

FBN isn't a bad bank for the kind of investment. Yet to experience what happens at Stanbic bank though.

TB becomes an investment window in this recession. Let's make use of it.

Cheers!

You can actually save yourself a lot of stress if banking with Firstbank(not sure about other banks) by checking the box to reinvest your interest upfront.

Your interest will be invested and its own interest reinvested and on and on till the lowest amount is reached. You save yourself the hassle or contacting your bank over and over and maybe missing out on a good deal. Plus you also loose some days(dependent on your principal, a few days may be good money) which reduces your yield though not significantly.

NB: When buying electrical cables, your main interest should be the copper inside not the insulation coating.

1.5mm, 4mm, 6mm, 10mm, etc. Each one comes with Amps rating. It is all about the guage. Eg. Thicker 16mm is used to draw from electric poles to a house. 10mm is used for a/c and refrigerator outlets(15A sockets) while 1.5mm is used for electric bulbs.

Uncle, while not taking away from your above excellent points, cable insulation is equally important. There is a reason insulation resistance rests are carried out on cables.

Just wanted to put that out so we don't settle for one against the other. Both are equally important.

Thanks.

How will the interest be calculated? Is the 65days a reminder of 91, 182 or 364 days tenor? Would really like to know how to balance this already counting tenor kind of investment

It's irrelevant whether it's a remainder of 91,182 or 364.

Interest calculations remain the same universally:

Principal * Interest rate * tenor(days)/365

Rates are always per annum.

It is impossible for you to be getting 18% of your capital, un-prorated for tenor, within those 65 days from TBills.

Most of the info requested here is available on the DMO website.

Minimum requirement for bond purchase at the primary auction is now 50,001,000. The forms have even been revised to state this new sum.

The minimum for the FGN savings bond is different but so is the tenor and yield.

Bond secondary purchase has been 100 million for some time. Not sure if it has been increased upward.
Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by battleaxe: 3:58am On Apr 07, 2017
Note that the minimum investment amount on FGN bonds is 50,001,000.

Not sure if the banks have found a way around that as well for their customers.
Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by battleaxe: 3:02am On Mar 21, 2017
You do not determine a rate with the secondary market.

Your bank typically will tell you the tenors and rates they have available, and you can then make a selection.

If you specify a rate and none is available at that tenor or rate, then yes they would keep rejecting your forms. You cannot bid on the secondary market- just buy whatever is available.

Gentlemen in the house can you please give me a quote on the probably cost to deck a small building of 18 x 36.ft in Ikorodu.

Are you asking for labour or materials?

For materials, you can estimate this yourself roughly.

1. Get the length, breadth and depth of your decking.
2. Based on your concrete mix ratio (e.g 1:2:4), calculate the volume of each required material. I think there's a factor to be applied as well.
3. Based on the volume of each material obtained above, calculate the number of bags or tippers of sand and granite required.
4. Remember to put in some significant contingency for losses/ shrinkage.

C'est Fini!

Get a caster with his own concrete mixer to come give an estimate.

this is a very tricky question because one is intended for short term and the other long term investment.
an investment in real estate could produce not just steady cash flow but an increase in value of your capital
. T bills however will only give you cash flow. value remains same.
eg a rented house valued at 20million would give an annual rent of 6-8% . Real estate reports quote 6-8% roi for houses in lagos and abuja so therefore, on the average it means
your house will yield 1.2- 1.6million per annum

However if you take that same 20million and invest it currently in tbills. at a true yield of about 22%
i.e
that is investing all, including the upfront interest
your 20million will give you 2.1million or more annually

Now despite the fact that you will earn more (cash flow) investing in tbills. You cannot neglect the fact that for real estate , the value of your land which your house sits on rises yearly.
so u not just earn cashflow in real estate, your value of land rises.

so weigh your options bro. are you in for the long term or short term? Can you handle the rigors that come with real estate investment, getting rents from tenants isn't easy as it is on paper :-) Goodluck

I'm guessing a typo.... from 20 million, he can get about 4.4m if true yield now 2.1m.

Thanks.

I think the issue of pressure pumps was raised some pages back.

One of the major downfalls mentioned was the need to have pipes rated to a particular psi and good workmanship to have been exhibited while joining pipes. With the obviously porous market we have, it is difficult to actually believe the ratings on some of the pipes with the exception of a certain type mentioned which I can't remember.... it was more expensive.

If you have poor workmanship and you use a pressure pump, then prepare to scoop water from your house.

I think the major thing that would attract anyone to this eurobond rather than t-bills is the huge potential capital gains that could accrue to the investment should the local currency plummet further. However, in the interest of our nation's economy, and of the masses, I really pray this terrible currency depreciation halts and reverses to at least the Q1'16 levels soonest.

Looking at the current prognosis, it actually doesn't seem like the euro will significantly appreciate against the Naira in the short to medium term. On the contrary, some are predicting that the euro will exchange at less than 1 against the dollar in the near future.

While the dollar may see some slight appreciation against the Naira; I personally do not believe the euro will fare as much.

I'll be happy to hear what world economy watchers think about this.

What do you think? I am not sure of what to advise. embarassed

cc: feelamong, freeman67, 2n2k, other gurus

I would pick 184 days; 16.9%.

I think it is a better deal as the last auction had 17.2 for 182 days and 18.4 for 365 days.

I think the disparity is too much for the 314 days option.

My opinion though!

I concur with your reasoning & argument Sir.
It's just that, to break even & get a better deal in the 2ndary market compared to the primary, the discount rate at the 2ndary must not be more than ~3% less than the primary offer.
Especially when you factor in some other cost which the primary market is devoid of e.g commission & professional fee.
Also, it takes awhile too.
Plus, some bank branches can't provide support platforms to access the 2ndary market for you.
By the way, some are even embarrassingly unaware & oblivious of NTB, let alone handle the 2ndary market stuff

Thank you very much

I humbly disagree with the above..... completely!

All the above points are actually mute.

Approach or mail the treasury unit of your bank and they will have the info you need. The first time may be a hassle but once you have the contacts, it's easy.

On the contrary, there are fees to be paid for primary auctions..... not so for secondary. Except for some cut throat banks that charge this.

I'll leave you and others with an example.
1m for 182 days at 17.5% on the primary market - bid failed.

Approach secondary market, purchase same bill at 16%( difference is usually not that much but let's leave it at that); same tenor but to compare apples for apples, I will make this a 182+14 days tenor= 196. I am doing this so that both the secondary market bill and the primary market bill you will hopefully purchase in the next auction mature on the same day. Pls calculate your interest.

You decide to wait two weeks and try your luck. You get 17.5% for 182 days. Pls calculate your interest.

What's the difference?

Note that we have not considered the possibility that your auction will once again fail.

Thanks Brother
The question you raised is one of the one I asked too.
It's quite sad that we have not gotten a detailed response or rejoinder to them
yet.

I appreciate your comment deeply.
I'm quite aware of the 2dary market.
My concerns there is that you may find it difficult to get the quantity you want.
2ndly, an inquisitive & reflective mind would likely think that the good rates of the 2dary market offer is a predictor of possible better or higher rates in the immediate next CBN offer.
Hence, the reluctance to purchase @ the 2dary market and hold on to the disposable cash for the next CBN auction.
I don't know if I made sense.

Actually it's the other way round. The trills sold on the secondary market are a reflection of how much they were bought during the primary auction. At least that's been my observation. It's usually a little lower than the closing price of that bill when the actual primary auction was done.

Secondly, have you calculated the time value of money by you waiting 2 weeks between a failed primary auction and the next? Do your calculations and you'll see that most times you'll be at par as say buying one at x% on the secondary market now versus waiting two weeks and buying at (x+1)%. Plus, your tenor counts off and you can have another dip faster.

How were catholics paying their doctors, teachers and nannies in their missionary hospitals, schools and orphanages respectively?

For the few missionary outfits I heard about, most were staffed purely by volunteers or nuns/priests who had teaching qualifications. Hence, that was their calling/posts. The catholic church does quite the investment in training of its own.

For those sitting on the fence about going green. Take the Leap. As long as its done right, the benefits are .....

Recently, I stopped by at a newly built fuel station in my vicinity on my way out. while waiting in line, I casually glance at a sign post on my right and I read an inscription that instantly grabs my attention…..”Solar Service Station” I immediately read the line again to be sure I was reading right. My first impulse was to look up and assess the kind of roof they managed to mount their panels on , and see if it was true.
Lo and behold, the roof covering was made completely out of solar panels……neatly arranged, neatly secured and neatly connected. I was so impressed. A gas station,.. supplier of PMS, DPK,AGO taking the initiative to go green. Lol, What an amusing Irony. You are loosing valuable energy, almost 60% of your installed capacity. There are a number of good hands on this thread who can either help you or refer you to someone.

From what he said, that means they also do personal businesses at the expense of uber and possibly manipulate the meter!!!!

But this is possible in a lot of places. I hope you know some people only use their cars for Uber say in the mornings or evenings when going to and from work? Or have personal errands during the day?? The cars do not belong to Uber so they are not cheating Uber.

In the event that the car is however owned by someone else, I agree this is cheating as the owner might be getting only the returns from the Uber end. Otherwise, I don't see anything illegitimate.

Pls stop misleading the newbies on the thread please. A wrong installation can scar people and push them away from RE especially after such an heavy investment.

Can you pls explain how you intend to couple these equipment directly to solar panels without any form of controller or regulator in between?

Pls be factual with people as to requirements. If they cannot afford the minimum requirements yet, then better to advice the. To build it up gradually.
