I personally use Nairaland as an index to have a feeler for the thoughts of Nigerians on various issues as come up per time.

I will be honest to say that what I see honestly scares me. If seemingly educated and exposed Nigerians, who are not under the garb of any religious indoctrination, alcohol or drug can not only think, but be confident enough in those thoughts that they are able to spew them out in public; then I am concerned for who we have become as a people.

Someone gets murdered and the first thoughts are that he/she must have done something to deserve it........ let us all remember that when we as a society allow just anyone become the judge on a matter; then him and only him becomes the barometer to decide if what sin you have committed warrants beating, stripping, or even murder.

That means that you could be driving and hit an okada for no fault of yours and his mates decide to murder the driver because he hit their friend. That means that a teenage could be defending himself and in the process push his/her attacker away and if the attacker slumps and dies in the process; of his friends and judges so deem, they could kill the teenager and maybe add a few of his family members as well----- they're the judge after all.

Please, let us all be responsible citizens. We may not be where we should be as a nation but let us all note that our actions or inactions contribute to what Nigeria becomes daily.

My apologies for the long rant.... I am really concerned.

While this is impressive, it's still a travesty how Western Union and other remittance companies are taking advantage of Nigerians living abroad. They exchange at a rate of 375/$ plus fees which actually decrrases the rate to around 345/$, they take that same dollars and sell it t the black market at the rate of 490/$. If this is not exploration then I don't know what is.

If you are in the US or have relatives in the US trying to send money to naija, I will exchange the funds at 410/$, simply deposit into my US bank account and receive instant funding into your Nigerian account. See my contact below.

It seems to me that you're doing the same thing as WU, MG and the likes.... just that your margins are less. Right?

With the rate at which the citizens are complaining I wonder what Buhari led administration z really doing with all the money derived from
All the money saved from subsidy to Money gotten from Corrupt individuals to internal generated funds and now $35bn remittances from those living outside d country. At this point I wonder what d future will look like under the president.

The remitted 35bln$ does not belong to the government, so it is not for President Buhari to do something with.

Is he supposed to lay claim on people's personal remittances to develop the country?

Please if I want to choose my rate by using the previous rate, do I go by the marginal rate or the true yield rate posted on the CBN website? CBN website posts marginal rates and true yield rate for each term

Just to make it clear for you, you use the marginal rate not the yield when quoting your rates for TB.

As the interest is upfront, the true yield gives you a correct rate indication factoring in the fact that the interest was paid ahead of time; such that for example you could reinvest same if you wanted.

House,

please what is the fg bond rates now?

Which one of them?

The 15.54% 2020 bond is currently at 15.97% yield. A little under 100naira.

You can check the various rates of the vtoous bonds online. The TB yields are currently higher but it depends on what your strategy is.

I will ask you four questions:
1) Do you know the difference between real money and fiat money?
2)whose money do banks lend to borrowers, theirs or that of customers?
3)why are most nations in the world in debt?
4)whats the difference between MMM and the local esusu or workers contribution scheme wherein a person whose turn it is takes a lump sum from the accumulated contribution of other participants?

Number 2
On a simple level, banks take your deposits at a lower interest rate and offer it as a loan to someone else at a higher interest rate. The wide margin between these rates is what banks profit on after removing costs for administration.

Now, for MMM, my understanding is that you provide help and in return you get help of an equivalent amount plus a 30% interest. Pardon me if these are not the exact steps.
The person you provided help to is not required to return the money with any interest on top. No one gives any interest for the help they receive. On the contrary, they receive a 30% bonus for providing help.

Therein lies the dilemma or thing that separates a classic bank from MMM. You have a 30% deficit on every transaction every month. This does not include the cost of administration. How is this a sustainable business model?

Number 4
Local Esusu or Alajo does not give you a 30% interest on your contributions.

They work solely on the principle of helping people have bulk cash for more significant purchases. My 1k may not go a long way in acquiring the new hair dryer for my salon and perhaps if I have the money in hand, I will spend it unwisely. If I contribute same for 3 mo this, 90k becomes a more tangible amount to do something "big".

So, can you tell us where the 30% for this comes from? From fellow esusuians or where?

thats waste of resources....DAT money could feed millions of poor Nigeria for months.

Assuming you meant to say million as opposed to millions and also that you meant one month as opposed to months.

Now assuming the most basic of meals, let's even assume a cup of garri. Let's assume 100 Naira per meal, though that can barely feed anyone nowadays. This brings us to approx 10k per month. Yes, I have rounded up generously.

52m will thus only feed 5,200 people for a month!

While that is still a huge number that will get fed, I'm amazed at how people throw numbers around easily.

Contribute to charities...... generously. Every Naira counts!

My brother it's pathetic how ignorant people are as regards the fact that banks create money out of thin air through fiat money and fractional reserve banking, lend that same money and charge interest on it and on and on like that relying basically on human ignorance and faith. People do not realise that the banks are ponzi schemes of giant proportions. That banisters have repeatedly caused economic meltdowns, financial hardships to people than any fraudster or group of thieves. MMM might crash but I applaud the principle.

Could you please help me understand how MMM gets its interest as you compared it to banks which we save in and then they move on to loan to others at an interest rate?

Can you also help us understand how the 30% to 50% bonus or interest on the provides help comes from? Is it thin air as well?

Your opinion is not true. I currently use solar in my house and it works very well. Infact, I just bought a solar refrigerator last Saturday and believe me. It''s making a whole lot of sense as I now refrigeration of food items and cold drinks. I will be buying solar Iron this week and later the deep freezer. Then, I will call Ikejaelectric to come remove their power from pole if my hse can't be metered.

I will enjoin everyone that can afford it to go for it.

Do you have to place your refrigerator and iron outside in order to catch the sunlight?

Or are these DC equipment?

You will enjoy it but its more expensive than generator! You are the ignorant here.
For example .... Our 4
batteries cost about ...510.000 naira
Sola panels about 120.000 naira
inverter ....engine .....110.000
controller or something like that i am not sure 30k
The whole shiiit lasted for like 18 months (547 days)before we replaced the batteries
come to think of it,we use 1700 diesel per day for our generator that means 1100x547....601.700 naira

Uncle, 1700 for 547 days will take you closer to 1m.

Secondly, how deeply were you discharging your batteries? Till the low alarm sound S or it switched off?

Also, while the 510k may have been a recurring cost, the costs for the inverter, solar panels, charge controller et al, were not recurring.

Based on your own analysis above( even with an assumption that the batteries were drained to 0%), solar power still works out cheaper.

Be advised. Affidavit is not an alrternative to SGD(single goods declaration form) or form C 2016. And you can only use the vehicle VIN to confirm the genuinety of the vehicle that was imported via RORO (roll on roll off) from abroad. Not all ports. Nigeria customs will never accept affidavit. It's either you present the original declaration or your vehicle or your car is detained, seized or auctioned to the public to serve as deterrent to others. If detained, you might be offered the grace to pay the duty, taxes and levies with commensurate penalty. Be guided, gone are the days that you believe once a car has been engraved, that it's off customs. No not atall. NCS seizes old vehicles which duties has not been paid for .. so far your vehicle is still less than 7 years old. Another new circular says anybody caught with forged customs paper should be arrested and the suspect will thereafter lead the NCS to the person/dealer that gave him/her the fake papers. On a last note: confirm the documents of that lovely automobile before making payment so as to avoid stories that touches. Thanks

Hi Sola,
Thanks for this. Can you pls clarify what you mean by cars less than 7 years old..... meaning cars manufactured between 2009 to 2016 in this case?? So a 2008 car will not be seized if it doesn't have customs papers??

Thanks.

And if you mean immigration raids as is common in some other popular destinations, that's a yes as well. Just that I wouldn't call it raids. However they are positioned at strategic locations where immigrants are known to smuggle themselves through.

Hello all,
I am putting up my whole solar power system up for sale. It was setup and installed by Richmon74.
The components are as follows:
4 255W Solarworld Mono panels
Morningstar MPPT 60Amp Charge controller
2 12v 160aH Fullriver Batteries virtually brand new (installed July 2016)
1 Sukam inverter 24v 1.4Kva
It comes with a stainless steel roof mount and battery rack.
Cables and connectors are bundled free of charge.

Total cost 470k if bought as a bundle.

This is an excellent deal as this setup will cost almost twice this to implement brand new.
Reason for selling is relocation.
Was not in the country for 2 months so the batteries have been floating since.

Would prefer to sell this as a unit.

Is this your final prize for the bundle?

Were the panels, CC and inverter also bought brand new and installed in July?

Thanks!

How do you notice those kind of things when dating unless he had kids in close proximity to him who trusted him?

Naija pedophiles from what I have seen are not like the oyinbo versions that sometimes go around hunting for prey. These ones will take what is available closest to them which most times is their kids or kids of family members - also committing incest along with it.

Family / Re: My Husband Always Shouts At Me In Public by battleaxe: 4:23am On Nov 15, 2016
Someone once told me that our reaction to events(in this case anger) is not as a result of what the other says/does; but more because of our own internal baggage and interpretation of the event based on our past.

I always used to think as well that when there was an issue and someone was ridiculing me/shouting; that I had to respond back in order not to look stupid. After viewing from afar some outbursts from people on arguments I was not involved in, I have found out that the person shouting is the one that looks like a fool. The person keeping quite wins the onlookers heart most often.

In this case, maybe your husband felt that by rushing to help him with your child when he fell, that you were suggesting to people around that he was incapable of taking care of his own son/daughter. Pls, do not own his anger. It is his own baggage. Do not shout back, just let him know what impact this is having on you emotionally. If he is a wise man, he should listen. Tell him the say way he feels you're making a statement to the world on his in capability to care for his child for example, is the same way you feel.

If you are bidding with discount houses, just be careful. They are largely unregulated compared to banks. They also fold up easily and quickly before you even know, and when this happens, tracking or retrieving your money becomes almost impossible. Equator Capital Securities is an example. See Morgan Capital for instance, the have a problem with NSE(among others) and for that reason no one can even withdraw cash with them even those kept for other investments. I prefer the comercial banks for reasons of security of investment, atleast CBN easily comes in when they are in trouble, thereby giving you enough time to withdraw.

Please, this is not completely true.

Treasury bills, FGN bonds etc are on the full faith of the federal government. Secondly, TBills are always domiciled with CBN approved custodians. You should just make sure you purchase via a registered agent which could be banks.

If the bank or house folds up, the custodian is who you need to touch base with if required. If you don't need to liquidate ahead of time sef, not sure why you would need to touch base with the custodians... Unless maybe to change the account number you want credited with your principal.

Two wrongs do not make a right so the fact that Kaffy as the owner of a dance outfit does this, does not make it right for the artistes to do same.
