He is the only begotten son of God; but Israel is His son by adoption, and so are all those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord, and believe in the Father who begat him. That is why Jesus said "I am in the Father and the Father in me."

Verse 127 says that Abraham and Ishmael built the Kaaba. Verse 125 claims that the Kaaba was the house of God since Abraham's time. However, according to other historical accounts Abraham never traveled to the Arabian Peninsula. The Bible teaches that Abraham was called from Haran to the land of Canaan (see Genesis 12) and there built an alter to God in the land promised to him and his offspring. The Biblical account in Genesis never mentions Abraham traveling to the Arabian Peninsula, nor does it say that he and Ishmael built the Kaaba,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thanks for the question. To answer it, we do not even need to go to the Biblical account; we just need simple arithmetical sense (not even mathematical sense)

In the Quran, when Muhammed was asked which is the oldest Mosque, he answered that it is the Kaaba and he also said the second oldest mosque is the Al-aqsar mosque in Jerusalem (currently occupying the site of the temple built by Solomon). When Muhammed was asked how many years separated the two "oldest mosques", he said 40 years.

Now, it is on record and we know that the temple built by Solomon was built around 950BC; thus by Muhammed account in the quran, that means the earliest time that the Kaaba could have been built was 40 years earlier i.e around 990BC; assuming that the temple was destroyed and the Arab occupation of Israel occured immediately after building the temple (which is definitely not the case, as the Arab occupation occured much later)
The simple arithmetical question is this: How could Abraham who lived and died at least 1000 years before the temple of Solomon build the Kaaba? Did he come back from the dead? I don't think so! Thus Muhammed and the Quran are lying? Definitely! We do not need the Bible to prove that, only a small Casio calculator possibly.

Election 2007: But there is God in Heaven

THIS sounds downright defeatist, doesn't it? But then when the powerful unjustly employs his might to pummel you into submission, what do you do except to hand him over to God? You can fight, kick and curse as much as you like, but what would all these amount to? More punishment, perhaps. Take the case of the recent elections in Nigeria about which a lot of dust has been raised, I am ready to bet that given the same circumstances and under the same umpires, if the elections are re-organised five times the same winners would not only emerge repeatedly, some of the current front line losers would eventually end up with figures that are no more than the votes of their immediate families!

So why not simply leave the matter to God. And this, incidentally, is what the oppressor always desires of the oppressed - a stoic resignation to fate in the face of severe hurt and injury. He does not mind being handed over to God. Does he care even?

I am referring here to the governorship, assembly and presidential elections of April 14 and 21, 2007. Although hundreds were killed and several more injured in election-related violence across the country, the situation was mercifully nowhere near the Armageddon that many Nigerians and our international friends had feared might become the lot of our nation. Even the government and INEC have since continued to harp on the elections being largely peaceful, as though the death and maiming of a number of Nigerians no longer count for much in a country where death, poverty and misery have long become the stark realities of everyday life. Yet we must never forget that the tone of a violence-prone electoral exercise was set by General Olusegun Obasanjo himself, when on national television he declared once and again that the then forthcoming election was a "do-or-die affair".

Historians and political analysts may yet examine the connection between this absolutely unpresidential declaration and the general voter apathy on one hand - a situation in which millions of registered voters opted to stay back in the safety of their homes on those election days; and the pockets of violence witnessed in several parts of the country during the election.

However, what matters for now is that the elections have been held and have been declared as free and fair enough in the estimation of INEC and the ever-winning Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The results announced showed that there was no voter apathy of any kind - except perhaps in the imagination of some of us, and that PDP has lost absolutely no grounds since the last elections in 2003 in spite of perceived miss-governance, decamping of influential party men or the strength of any opposition. Rather, the results show that Nigerians are more in love with the ruling party today than ever before, even to such extent that the PDP won in places where they fielded no candidates. Shame to those who thought excellent performance is a yardstick for re-appointment. The nation may today be enveloped in near-total darkness, roads impassable, the people may wallow in abject poverty and pensioners die in droves while awaiting their stipends, yet our multi-billion dollar debts to external creditors are cleared in world record time! It is still PDP for life!

That we all knew the entire process was programmed to fail from the beginning, means absolutely nothing at the end of the day. Yes, everyone said it, that Professor Maurice Iwu was on a wuruwuru mission - acting at every turn in the best interest of the party in power, perhaps more vociferously than any card-carrying PDP members could ever have done. As he was banning key opposition candidates from the electoral process despite court rulings, his counterpart at the Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC) was hounding others into hiding or submission, while the president himself was boastfully affirming 'guilty as charged' on those affected, as though these organs and the presidency were one and the same.

And so, whatever we knew all along has now been confirmed by the shoddy conduct of the elections and the outrageous results. But then, just what can anyone do about it? Those enlightened enough to make a difference with their comments are too busy minding their own businesses. The masses are too ignorant to realise the extent to which they had been short-changed, and too hungry to care. Not when their little daily earnings have been severely decimated by some senseless, seemingly interminable holidays and compulsory stay-at-home. Anyone calling them into some kind of street demonstration is wasting his time. Not when the soldiers are still on the streets anyway.

Chief Ken Nnamani, President of the Senate and the number three man in the country's political structure described the elections as a complete sham, and wondered why every election in Nigeria always turned out worse than the previous one. He was being charitable. Whereas the 2003 elections were also massively rigged to the knowledge of all, the style of the manipulations was such that not a few Nigerians were ready to concede that perhaps PDP won because it played smarter by promoting a fraudulent alliance with the opposition, especially in the South West, which ultimately worked in its favour and to the eternal regret of the rest. Those who plotted the 2007 fiasco had no time for such risky permutations and could not even bother to dignify us with a decent show. It was worse than daylight robbery!

Billions of naira from our commonwealth allocated to INEC coupled with the colossal financial losses to both the nation's economy and to millions of already over-stretched Nigerians on account of the work-free days was merely to achieve such ignoble end. A masterpiece of unintelligent fabrication already described as perhaps the worst organised election in world's history. And to think that this was under the supervision of a professor! Little wonder why Nigerians and their certificates are treated like rubbish wherever they go.

But come to think of it. Professor Maurice Iwu and those who call the shots at Aso Rock knew that those flamboyant figures announced in favour of PDP could not fool anyone. For one, the elections were intensely monitored by the opposition, as well as by curious local and international bodies. Secondly, the proceedings across the country were transmitted live on those election days by almost all the local TV stations, clearly showing the happenings on polling days, including the empty stands, queues of frustrated intending voters who remained unattended to at 7.00 p.m.; the cases of under-aged voters, the stuffing of ballot boxes and carting away of several others by gun-totting gangsters; the littering of thousands of voter cards in some centres - already thumb-printed in favour of PDP, and so on and so forth.

The question is, given such widespread and well-published irregularities, could INEC's shameless allocation of figures have been meant to hoodwink anyone? I do not think so. Methinks it was simply a case of take it or leave it. As expected, the powers that be have asked those dissatisfied with the umpire's verdict to seek redress at the election tribunals, or better still to embrace peace for the sake of our nascent democracy and accept the religious fact that God enthrones whom He chooses. Chikena.

Now this is the crux of the matter. Indeed there is God in heaven, but could He be the same God to whom the victor and vanquished are presently turning? In expressing his disappointment at the results, Major General Muhammadu Buhari started by giving Him thanks and praises. Senator Ben Obi, running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, was at St. Paul's church, Breadfruit, Lagos the other Sunday along with other opposition leaders to report their traducers and pray for the repose of the souls of those killed during the elections.

Meanwhile, congratulatory messages are inundating the newspapers. Thanksgiving services are also being organised to thank God for these recent victories while several people have begun to jostle for positions in the yet-to-be formed governments. In their hearts, are these jubilating Nigerians - winners and their well-wishers alike, aware of the many flaws of the electoral process which rendered the outcome suspect, if not totally invalid in several states? Do they in all good conscience believe that this whole charade is deserving of celebration? As they gather in churches and mosques, would they be praying to this same God? Does it matter how all these affect the psyche of the average youth to whom parents and teachers never tire of preaching morality?

President Obasanjo will no doubt appreciate these sentiments. He is a Christian. Could we ever forget that historical 1999 picture of a sober and humbled figure whose speeches were richly laced with Godly avocation soon after he emerged from unjust incarceration? Please recall that before he could re-run for the 2003 elections, Chief Obasanjo had to wait on God while the entire nation was waiting on him. Is God still speaking to our president? I mean this same God whom we are told abhors vengefulness and haughtiness? Does the president in good conscience believe that INEC's total bungling of the recent elections were mere 'mistakes'? Is OBJ's mission to remain our messiah, willy nilly, one who must now forever sit in judgement over the affairs of Nigerians, a godly undertaking? Are the endless political crisis in Anambra, Oyo, Pleateau, Imo and Ekiti states among others, where intractable impostors and untouchable gangsters openly claimed allegiance to Aso Rock, in all sincerity, symbolic of an impartial father still in constant communion with God? This same God?

It has been said that those who make peaceful change impossible, make violent change inevitable. Someday, somehow, somewhere God will yet raise a devil (we've seen enough of messiahs please) to whom all platitudes of peace and Godliness will mean absolutely nothing. He would come with sword and spare none who had oppressed the hapless and the helpless. And when he is through with the cleansing, he would tell all who cared to listen that he was merely doing God's bidding. This very same God

Brother it seems you are confused with the word 'nations'. For your understanding, read Mathew 19 v 27-29 and you will get the clearer picture of antions. The nations comprises the twelve tribes of Israel in which Jesus will judge and not including gentiles. He will judge the nations of Israel because he was sent to them.

I once knew a man who "was born" a Christian, then he "became" a muslim, and even went to Mecca and "became" an Alhaji; later he "became" a Catholic; but to the glory of God, he has now "given his life" to Christ and is a born-again child (not slave) of God.
Probably blabs787 is not far behind: he appears to passionately have a heart to know God, but pride is still standing in his way. It also appears he's "read a lot in" the Bible (although lopsided), but he has not allowed the Bible "to read his heart" hence it is easy for him to get seriously confused as is seen in the above quoted statement. That is why he tries to "cross-reference" biblical passages with the Quran, and also try to validate Quranic claims with Biblical passages.

If respecting religion entails not critically apprasing the basic tenets of a religion or it's acclaimed prophet simply to maintain peace, that is not respect; it is the islamic plot of 'Hudna' (false cease-fire) used to cover or prevent illumination of it's inherent lies and deception.
Anybody will be proud to make his/her boast in the life, lifestyle, ministry and teachings of Jesus Christ; and even invite all and sundry "to come see a man who told me all things about my life" like the Samaritan woman who then asked "is this not the messiah." If we cannot make our boast in the perfect and sinless life of the Only Lord and Saviour, then is our faith based on a lie; but we can make the boast, Thus, if you cannot make a boast of a perfect and sinless life and teachings of the prophet of Islam, then it is our duty to encourage or challenge you to do so; peradventure by so doing, you will see 'the lie' or 'the liar' on which you are basing your 'faith'. Science is a product of human logic, faith operates outside the boudaries of human logic or comprehension,,,,,well, Islam is a product of human (or specifically Muhammed's) logic. This passage not only just describe "Big Bang" (common origin of earth and heaven) and beginning of evolution from water (on Earth at least, as it is mentioned in passage mentioned for "unbelivers" in Earth), but also gives opportunity for interpretation that continents were together and then separated from each other.

A casual look at the 2 portions quoted above is enough to convince anybody of a desperate attempt to make sense of the insensible. While the big-bang is now increasingly becoming doubtful even among leading atheist scientists, you are trying desperately to fit Islam into the model. What happened to the men created from "mud" by the allahs, or from congealed blood, or from water, or from sperm. Which one sef.

Quite an interesting chain of responses on this "handshaking" thread. My piece is just that anybody who calls himself or herself a Christian and "hates", or harbours any misgiving against, peoples based on religion (Muslims, Ogun worshippers, Ifa worsippers etc) or on 'ethnicity', or on anything, is nothing but a hypocrite or still immature. Because Christians are called to 'Love' and not to hate. In fact, if you read in the book of Isaiah (trying to get the exact chapter and verse) you will see where God declares his love for Arabs (Egypt and Assyria) but His inheritance with Israel. Our "God is Love" (1st John 4) who "loves the whole world so much that He gave his only beggoten son that whosoever believes in Him will not die but have everlasting life". (John 3:16) and that "while we were ('all') yet sinners, Jesus died for us." (emphasis mine)

However, I have never seen anywhere in the Bible where God asked us to love and respect works of evil such as Islam in itself; rather God asked us to reprove or expose ALL works of evil both inside our lives, and outside in the world we live in. In doing this, no doubt we will come against oppositions from the adherents of such faiths; tricks and lies of political correctness; need "to respect each other" and "keep the harmony going" and idioms such as "you to your own religion, and me to mine." I will like to declare that while you all usually talk about 'Taqqiya' which actually is not universal in Islam depending on which sect you belong to; we all need to be very very (x1000) careful of the universal Islamic concept of "HUDNA" (You can research it and get understanding; it is also called 'hudibiyya' or 'khudaibiya'). I love you all 'individually' regardless of your religious or ethnic allifliation; but I will never love (nor respect) a known work or doctrine of evil like Islam because of my love for individual; neither will I keep quiet in reproving/exposing all such works of evil. Why?, because: "The fear (or respect) of man brings a snare, but the fear (or respect) of God is the beginning of wisdom." But my hand, my heart and prayers will remain extended for the 'proverbial' handshake to welcome anybody into the ONE fold, under the ONE and only Sheperd! Peace out!

Then it dawned on me that the reason a lot of peoples have uncomplimetary things to say about you, your questions and attitude, is simply because we try to reason with you on the assumption of the same level of understanding; and that is complicated by your usual arrogant I-know-it-all disposition. Now, the passage you quoted is about "resurrection of the dead", the Sadducees do not believe in angels and in resurrection or after-life; and as such they came to Jesus to ask him one of the various "trick" questions based on the custom of "Levirate marriage" as prescribed in the Mosaic law (Deuteronomy 25:5). This marriage refers to situations in which a married man dies without having children, his brother can marry the widow. Now if we even focus on the "levirate marriage", you can see from the explanation that it is very different from having 2 or more wives at a go and countless "handbags" through temporary marriage. BTW, before you run with that again, the custom of levirate marriage is NOT in Christianity.
However, the theme of the passage is on the resurrection, and you can see that Jesus taught on the resurrection of the saints in heaven, i.e in heaven there is neither marriage or giving out children in marriage, but we are like angles living in eternal glory of God and happiness. Compare to the lies of al-jannat with the promise of sex, sex and more sex, wine, beautiful boys, and food for 40 years on the table (i.e hedonism, glutony, pervertion, sodomy, etc). Hope this is simple enough for you, prof!

I like TayoD response to you, it is the best. It is the same method of teaching that Jesus used in teaching and confouding the pharisees. That approach of teaching is called "Agg'ada" in Hebrew, which is a moral approach that will stimulate you to think.

Now if we look at all the passages you've quoted from the bible in which "people are compared to many things," you will see that there is none of them in which the comparism was because of their "race or ethnicity, gender etc"; but rather because of certain attitudes, behaviour or as a test of faith.
You and I agree this is different from a prophet who claims "Jews" are monkeys; or that "women" have half a brain and are possessions like donkeys; or that satan looks like a "black man"; or that the heart of a "blackman" is as gross as a donkey. You can see that all these comparism are on the basis of unchangeable attributes; rather than on opinion or attitude. I therefore wonder what kind of god will say through his prophet that his creation is like a donkey, or like satan etc.
I am sure you see the difference now between the false gods and prophet in the Quran, and the God who looked at ALL his creations and said in Genesis that "It is very good"!!

The only portion of your diatribe that is true is the first parapgraph! Yes, we do NOT love Islam; because the living God asked us to Love God and hate all forms of evil. Islam is a work of evil and we can't close our eyes to that: from the basic tenets of deception in it's doctrine, to the life and ministry of it's acclaimed perveted prophet called muhammed. There is nothing good about Islam, thus it is appropriate not to love Islam. However, those who are still blinded by the gods of this world cannot see the evil in it, but will try to rationalise and reason it out. I beg to differ with you. Nigeria is NOT our own Jerusalem; Nigeria is our country and Jerusalem is Jerusalem. When the Lord God said through the psalmists in psalm 122 vs 6 that : "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper that bless you." He was not asking you to pray for your country but to pray for the peace of Jerusalem in Israel literarily. It is the city of the most high God and christ is coming back to rule the world from Jerusalem. '"The (whole) earth is the Lord and the fullness therein." (Psalm 24) Therefore, we should pray for our country Nigeria as citizens of Nigeria because it belongs to the living God and He has made us it's citizen to do his will for the nation; and as Christians we should also pray for the peace of Zion or Jerusalem. Is allah not really confused? Because in Sura 4:157, 'allah' stated that Jesus was not crucified, but later allah said in the same passage (which you did not write) that 'it' (i.e. allah) made Simon to take up the 'form' or 'appearance' of Jesus, and that it was Simon that was crucified and not Jesus. I hope you saw that in your Quran!! Dont you see that the idol called 'allah' knows that the crusifixion of Jesus Christ is too powerful to be denied, hence "it" is trying to give an alternative explanation of the crusifixion. That is the trade-mark of the devil, always trying to give "alternatives to the truth"; which is why the devil is called the "deceiver." As such, you can see that the idol called 'allah' is nothing other than one of the agents of the devil.

Now on the prophecy of Jonah:
This has confused muslims for ages; and not only muslims but other sceptics also. To you muslims, Friday to Sunday morning is not up to three days, but just 2 days, as such the prophecy about the sign of Jonah is not right, abi? Unfortunately, this is due to blatant ignorance. In Isreal, up till this moment, the "Jewish" tradition or cultural timing is that: "a new day starts at sundown". As such, the Friday (by Greek custom) of crusifixion actually started at sundown of preceeding Thursday, up to sundown friday i.e. Day 1!. Day 2 started at sundown friday up to sundown saturday; and Day 3 started at sundown saturday. So, do you see now that Jesus in his prophecy to the Jews of Israel will definitely use the jewish description of day since that is the culturally understaood and accepted way. But you have decided to interprete it using the greek calendar days. See what ignorance does.
