Good one in the short term but not really a good one long term.

Here's a breakdown of what's happening.

The economy is heading towards a recession and people taking advantage of the disparity in forex isn't helping matters. Hence the excess cash in the system leading to inflation.

Banks borrow from the CBN and they pay interest on what they borrow. The banks in turn lend the money to you and I and a certain interest is charged. I'm sure you are familiar with that.

Now, the CBN can reduce inflation by increasing their interest rates on money lent to banks so as to mop up excess cash in the system. To meet up, the banks increase their rates on whatever they lend to you as well as introduce all those hidden charges when you bank with them.
Now if my secondary school economics is still good enough, I believe these might be the likely implications:

1. The banks will increase their interest rate when you go to borrow from them.
2. Inflation will reduce in the nearest short term.
3. Because of the high interest rate, you will consider not borrowing from the banks.
4. This will result in the economy slowing down! The economy will look good on paper but the common man on the street will feel the pinch.

I have always canvassed that the way out of our impending recession is increased investment! That's what Soludo (God bless that man) canvassed for before he left office. Investment led by the manufacturing sector!! That's what the US did when its home market crashed because of the 2008 recession. If the govt stimulates the economy by entering into PPPs and other favorable policies, millions of jobs would be created, and taxes can be increased to checkmate any excess liquidity. At the end of the day, the inflation would be down, there would be jobs, the common man happy and the government too.

This is not a matter of channelling frustrations. 5.0 anywhere and in any department is impressive by any standards.

The guy is an examination genius. If he goes to Harvard or anywhere, he will achieve a similar feat or just some points less. He is outstanding.

PS - This is not the first time I've heard this argument of 'let him go to physics, chemistry, engineering etc. Unfortunately, or fortunately, these are not his areas of study, and we would not even know if he is capable of achieving the same feat when he is not a student of any of these courses. We cannot conclude that because he performed impressively in Psychology, he would not do same in all these 'hard science courses' were he a science student. After all, before now, no one had achieved that feat in Psychology.. In the same way, one day, one day someone will achieve the same thing in a hard science course..Maybe by then there will be a unanimous agreement that many things are possible in the world of academics..

We are here to use that purpose to bring Glory to God, but the fact is there are enemies of that purpose. If God Himself has an enemy in the form of Satan, how much more humans? Yes, those wicked-hearted people are being used by Satan and his demons to wreck havoc on some innocent people..

But what about heavy prayers for the demonic influences working through those people to be uprooted? What about prayers for the people to be set free from these influences? What about prayers for them to see the light, the light in Christ, rather than die with these unclean spirits and face heavy judgment from God? Imagine a demon-possed person testifying that he/she was arrested by God through your prayers..That's a soul won into the Kingdom of God..You already know the many rewards for that.

Nothing happens to genuine sons and daughters of God without His knowledge. He knows all and sees all and knows very much how to deliver us from all afflictions and how to ensure that no weapon fashioned against us prospers. Let us continue to live for Him and in Him, and let us continue to remain genuine children of His..

I don't really know how to put it for that guy to understand where I'm coming from but I am glad you do understand me. I am someone that strongly believes in order because if I don't, I know that disobedience can build up and affect my life negatively. The problem with many people is that they don't understand that their actions can cause a chain effect in their life. They do something and feels it ends there but it doesn't. There are so many people today who are in a place that they ought not to be because they never allowed the Holy Spirit to lead them. They argue about everything and do things in their own canal ways. Why? Because the leading of the Spirit are usually foolish to them. Let me stop here please.

Thanks bro. Indeed, we need to be careful so that we're not misdirected away from His plan for us because we are trying to be wise in our own eyes.

Thank you for that chapter in the book of John. I have read it and have been blessed, especially learned once again that the everlasting waters of life come only from Christ and that believing and having faith in the word of God yields fruit - reference to the man whose son was ill and whose conversation with our Lord Jesus led to his believing what the Lord said and his faith and belief leading to the complete healing of his son.

Concerning your other submission, yes there are many wolves in sheep's clothing..But one thing remains sure - there remain those places of worship where God is genuinely worshiped in spirit and in truth, through our Lord Jesus Christ..Just as the Lord told Elijah that there are still those reserved for him who have not bowed and will never bow to Baal, so also are there people and places of worship where the Lord is worshiped in spirit and in truth.

My own goal is to continue challenging myself and earnestly asking myself whether I truly believe God's word through Christ Jesus and then praying steadfastly for the grace to live my life in total submission to this word.

Still A Christian, When Was The Last Time You Did Any Of These?


Some will say, it's not 'works' but 'grace'. The same Grace Jesus had yet He worked all day and night for His Father.

If you call yourself a "Christian" and haven't done some or all of these, 3 things are involved;

- You are backslidden.

- Your church doesn't really teach stuff like these or...

- You have chosen to ignore the demands/promptings of the Holy Spirit.

If you are (or really, badly want to be) a true disciple of Jesus, these seven things should not be far-fetched from your habits:


1. Evangelizing

I laugh when I hear people, 'My money can be used to preach the gospel, as for me, No Time!" Yes, you can't preach globally, what about those sinners around you? Your siblings? Friends? Neighbours? This is the GREAT COMMISION for ALL! You drink or sleep with them but can't preach to them.


2. Praying for those who don't want you to succeed.


In a world of ours, 'anyone against my progress, DIE BY FIRE', is now the norm. Is this only what Jesus taught us? There is more to prayer than "FALL down and DIE!!!" Prayer for others is a mystery that reminds God of our own needs.


3. Loving Our "Haters"

I still remember that doing so "will HEAP COAL OF FIRE on their heads" as the Bible puts it. When was the last time you showed mercy to the merciless? Do you testify in church just because your prayers in rendering an innocent man a widower was answered? What of apologizing even when you're palpably right.


4. Really read your Bible

It's true, "social media sites are gradually stealing away God's people". I have been guilty sometimes too. If only you can spend half the time you spend on Facebook, BBM and whatsapp! This BOOK will keep you from sin and sin will keep you from this BOOK - Immortal John Bunyan. Each time I've fallen, I wasn't reading my Bible.


5. Gave God an ample sum of money and didn't announce it.

You'll see people give with one hand and broadcast with the other. Little wonder, the seed fails to reproduce maximally.


6. Humble yourself enough to sit wherever the usher asks you to.

The usher sef, her shoe and appearance aren't as commanding as yours and she wants to command you to sit in the front row. I even kneemw when she started this church and gave her life to Christ. Hmm


7. Pray till you had an heavenly experience


I have come to understand as a Christian, 'you are as weak or strong as your prayer life". Of course, I'm not talking about, "Gimmie gimmie kinda prayer". A prayer of Consecration or Dedication always and have proven to be more powerful than the rest.

Mid-week services and Cell fellowship are OUT of some folk's programme. They may be leaders in church yet so busy to do the First works- First Love.

When was the last time you spent quality time with your Father? Not in church but alone. This is a question for all of us.

Our God through our Lord Jesus Christ is helping me. I've seen a noticeable growth in 2 - 7, and am still growing well. I have rather slowed down with 1 as the last time I engaged in this activity was about 8 months ago. I will pick it up again and by God's grace maintain the momentum for the long term.

My church hammers on things like this..In fact, we are all charged to engage in them!!

Bro, we are all here to grow in our faith and not to pick arguments. If you refer to my previous submissions and particularly look at Romans 13: 1- 5, you will see why that statement was made. The statement builds on a previous submission.

God's authority can be manifested through any of his governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God and the authority that exits are appointed by God. No one says an usher is God, that would be blasphemous as you have pointed out. The point is that in a genuine, true house of God, our Lord Jesus Christ is the head and every appointment is made by Him and overseen by Him so that decisions are in line with His plan.

This is the point I have tried to make. If you disagree with this, say why and let's reach an agreement that is based on the Bible so we can learn.

One thing I want to bring to your attention is the fact that as believers, we are here on this earth to glorify God, and that is the very primary purpose why we're here. Everything else is secondary. I believe you already knew this. It's important to remember that as children of God, our destination is not this world, our destination is heaven...The ephemeral enjoyment that this fallen world has to offer cannot be compared to what is waiting for those who truly believed and lived for Jesus Christ on this earth.

Thus, if we as Christians are faced with having to choose between modelling every aspect of our lives in order to reap the eternal benefits in Christ or living our lives so as to enjoy the temporary benefits here on earth, I believe, and with the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, that the former should be our goal. We cannot claim to desire Christ yet refuse to obey His major words in faith..

It is possible to enjoy on this earth and also make heaven, but we must do this in complete obedience to the word of God through Christ Jesus.
In order words, if enjoying the goodies of this world means disobeying the teachings of Christ (such hating on enemies and hoping they die), then such enjoyment is unimportant and unrequired.

Now, if we are living to be like Christ and Christ says we should love our enemies..What would then happen if we decided to hate our enemies? Would we be obeying Christ? Would we be living for Christ? As Christians, it has to be clear for what and whom we are living!

The same Holy Spirit cannot guide you and them wrongly. The Ushering Unit itself came to be by the Spirit and it responsibility is to usher you into the church and position you for the same Spirit. You are not an Usher and as such you don't have right to choose where to sit in church when you come except the Ushers are not around. The unit was also set up to maintain order in the church and you must subscribe to it. Imagine if everyone in the church thinks about them the way you do. There would be disorganization and the Spirit of God does not work where the people are not organized. There's no need being unnecessarily stubborn. You'll only be setting yourself up for destruction because it wouldn't end in the church. It'll take you to the devil. So don't offend the Holy Spirit. Respect a constituted authority. Choose to be humble.

I beg to disagree with you on this "I sit where I feel like attitude" when it comes church folks and ushers cos if everyone in that service chose to do what they "felt" like, I bet church we will end up with a service of broken chairs.

So wen the usher tries to get you to a seat, most times to feel up empty seats in front that I sometimes wonder why we run away from and you rebuff them, what does the bible call that?

Allow them guide you always even if they separate you from someone you came to church with. Remember, they may not be doing that intentionally but through the leading of the Spirit. Positioning matters a lot in church. So allow the Spirit place you where you should be to be able to receive from the same Spirit you went to visit. Again, your Pastor put them there, so disobeying them is disobeying your man of God which isn't good.

Please, the brother/sister who is not happy to sit where the usher recommends, the Bible says we should submit to authority for every authority is appointed by God for a purpose Romans 13: 1 - 5. The church, I mean where our Lord Jesus Christ actually dwells, is the house of the Lord and my take is that He directs any turn of events in His house - things do not just happen in His house by chance.

I encourage bro/sis to obey the ushers even if it means splitting temporarily from the person that you both came together to church.

is that while people are comfortable pursuing

that humans could fly; it became their life’s
purpose. When Christopher Columbus set the
goal to sail round the world despite the risk
based on the assumption that the earth is flat;
it became his life purpose. Every man has a
purpose on earth; but you can only discover
yours if you think big.
7. Thinking big eliminate impossibilities
Lastly, the true magic of thinking big is in the
breaking of impossibilities. Thinking big
makes the impossible possible. That’s why
Adidas said “ impossible is nothing. ” This
statement is only true if you think big and go
for it.
To many, the goal to become a billionaire is
out of their reality and an impossible mission.
But to me, it’s achievable because I have a
perception that accept big challenges. So
when next you think about setting a goal or
executing a project, think big and your
thoughts will be brought into existence.

I agree with all your well-laid out points except point 5 which seems to be suggesting that living below your means implies that you are not expanding your means. That you are living below your means does not in any way imply that you're not expanding your means. You can expand your means and still live well below your means. In fact, this is what smart people do that earns them millions or billions after some time.

It remains a financially sensible advice to live below your means..Living below your means implies ensuring your costs (which exclude investment, of course) fall below your income. This remains a sensible decision any day, any time. If your means go from 1 billion to 2 billion and your expenses increase from 200 million to 400 million, you have expanded your means, you're also living the kind of life style you desire and living below your means. This is what that conventional wisdom tries to teach.

Believe it or not, there have been years when Nigeria has had trade surpluses, mostly occasioned by massive crude oil exports. In those years we would have earned more dollars than we spent but created very little demand for the naira. If for sentimental reasons we're pursuing a stronger naira, we should encourage foreign portfolio investors to come in and drop their dollars for our Naira to buy our securities. Exporting more doesn't make your currency stronger, it only eases your demand for dollars to fuel your imports, and even provides you with yet more dollars to increase your imports; Which is why the Naira has rarely appreciated in the past 20 years even when we've had trade surpluses.
Only a deliberate program of import substitution to ease (not eliminate) importation, and the devaluation of the Naira will stimulate the inflow of dollars that will ease the current demand.

The point being made very clear is that it is not senseless to posit that improvement in trade surpluses can lead to a stronger currency.

I think your statement which I highlighted should read 'hasn't made sense', not 'doesn't make sense' because it is not senseless at all to expect this.

I hate the unnecessary whinning in this article. See as a consumer, I won't patronise made in Nigeria textiles because they are of low quality and they are very scarce. As a producer I won't manufacture textiles in Nigeria because there's no power and the machinery to produce the textiles has to be imported at the current exchange rate and without access to credit facilities from banks. If we want a buoyant textile industry, we should give the manufacturers power and access to cheap credit. We should give the consumers reasons to purchase locally made textiles by improving on the quality of our local production, increasing the duty on Imported textiles and empowering the Customs to do their job and arrest smugglers.

And Mr OP, the exchange rate is not a means of measuring the buoyancy of a country or its economy. You should check how much a dollar exchanges for the Japanese yen. A weaker Naira is even an incentive to exporters as long as we reign in inflation. You can't be advocating for increased export oriented local production and a stronger Naira. Doesn't make sense

Your previous points are strong. Well done. As for the highlighted, the poster is so so so on point. He is not advocating that a stronger naira will stimulate exports. What he is saying, by implication, is that consistent trade surpluses or declining trade deficits can help strengthen the naira and that is very true in many cases and makes plenty economic sense.
