15 years is the normal time to take WASSCE. .
305? Why didn't she score 370+ or 400? Chemistry, use of english, physics, biology all need you to memorize facts and formulas, nothing more. I am not impressed.

Wait guy, 15 years normal age? Is this a joke? Are you discounting this impressive academic achievement? Is this a joke or are you serious? Am I dreaming? Please respond to this here..

You also said cramming can achieve this. Really? Just really? Wow, you must be super intelligent and have this achievement beneath you for you to not be super impressed by the outstandingly excellent academic achievement of this young girl.

The way I see you, your WAEC must be 9A1, UME 379 and University GPA 4.98...

Kai, some of us that finish secondary school at 17/18/19 must have been abnormal, according to your very high standards. I hope to read from you here.

Olodo Poly graduates.

By the way, your post depicts ignorance of certain things so I will state them

1. In France, the polytechnics there are better rated than universities

2. The best students from high school go to poly, e.g ecole polytechnic. The rest go to university or below

3. Ecole poly graduates are more rigorous on average and command a higher pay in the job market, on average.

So, yes, in Nigeria and perhaps the British system, poly might be viewed as inferior on all fronts, but this does not necessarily hold outside of Nigeria. Rensallier poly is another one that trumps many US universities in quality and research. Let's educate ourselves before we criticize and castigate.

I concur...I currently have scholarships to study abroad as a first class student but no one to assist with little required funds. So, when there is brain there must be money to drill its potent

1. Is your scholarship full?

2. If yes, what do you need ''little required funds'' for?

3. Is it for flight ticket?

If you are ready to supply convincing answers to these 3 questions, then try to send me an email.

10% scholarship is a scholarship but things can be hard for those who don't have the huge 90%. If you fall into this category, it would be a good idea continue to try hard until you land a more generous scholarship..

Meanwhile, congrats to the dude in the original post...Not everybody can achieve that feat, whether there is money or not.

I disagree with you here. You're making a quick statement that may not stand the test of time. The same statement was made 20 years ago but look at China today. The macro picture may not support your statement going into the future. But I agree that only God knows the economy that will dominate several decades from now.

By work harder, do you mean productivity...? Because it is productivity, coupled with some other factors, that eventually stimulate growth and economic prosperity. If you meant the Chinese are more productive, can you provide an empirical fact to back this up?

It's hard to make definite statements. There are many variables in place. I agree America was founded on the platform of Christ, praise God...But we all know the amount of stuff that gets exported from America to other countries today. God is not a respecter of persons. We all need to be reminded of this.. It is possible for America to wane economically. It has happened to other past world powers. It can happen to America. Relationship with God is about salvation, not about how economically prosperous a country would be, although I agree that God's children won't lack

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Physics And Biology Teacher Needed by baum1: 4:14am On Oct 26, 2017
For those interested, we are now in need of a capable biology teacher to teach JAMB and prepare a student to score above 95% in UME and A1 in WAEC. Work to begin in a few weeks from now.

The candidate must reside in Ipaja area otherwise the pay we are offering won't cut it. No need applying if you live far away and have to spend more than 300 naira on transportation

For the right candidate, starting salary is between 1,000 - 1,200 per hour. 2 hours per day and twice a week. As has been said, there is a performance related bonus which is at least 3 times the starting salary. The bonus is paid when the target grades are achieved.

Interview date is this Saturday. Send in your CV or ask your friends that are qualified to send in their CVs. Email is baumtenpers@gmail.com.

More info - For a teacher who achieves the two listed targets, there is a possibility of getting a fully paid tuition support to do a master's at a Nigerian federal or state university of your choice. If you already have a master's, your full-time tuition fees as at the time of the master's will be given back to you subject to providing appropriate proofs.

Quote me again make thunder fire your generation.

Why are you bringing up this now?

Bro, how can you just begin to insult me, my father and my generation without even having an idea that you're talking to a fellow human being like you. Are things that bad? Please take it easy. Whatever you're working hard for will come. You don't have to suspect people for no reason. Some of us are motivated by a desire to help other people. I know this is hard to believe, but some people, some Nigerians still do this without expecting anything in return. I belong to that set of people and nothing will make me ashamed.

It's unfortunate you believe anything big is scam. It's not. Normally I should return fire for fire or invite at least 3 people here on Nairaland, old time nairalanders even before you joined who have benefitted from the blessings of God through me, but I won't do that. That would be stupid. I have nothing to prove to anybody, not even to you. I don't even know you. I gave sound responses to your allegation and invited you to counter my submissions, you couldn't do that. Instead, you decided to throw insults. That's not a hallmark of a witty Nigerian.

You also sound very arrogant. It does not pay. We have been there, done that and it burnt our fingers. If you're self-employed and things are working for you, praise God..But you don't have a near idea about some of the people that post on nairaland. Why insult? It does not pay. Self-control is key if you're to go far in life. You've not started yet. If you have not started, I challenge you to start helping fellow nairalanders in any ways you can, with your resources, expertise, and talents. You say you're self-employed, I challenge you to start hiring nairalanders as some of us are already doing. If we all can do this instead of engaging in unnecessary boasting, we will touch some people's lives positively.

I will pretend I didn't see the unnecessary outburst in your post. I wish you good luck.

I have B.Sc.Ed. Maths and M.Sc. Maths (in View), can I apply?

Hi, no you can't anymore. It's already late for that particular role. I won't lie, there is another role, specifically for females, but I've not been asked to bring anybody and you will understand that I can't field someone I don't know...So, I'm not making it open here.

But if your grades in your bsc/bed and msc math are very good, I can work with you to get a masters or phd abroad. I used to do this for free, but the success rate has prompted me to begin charging for the service..And the charges are a bit on the high side. However, if I like your academic achievements, anything can happen. If you're comfortable, you can send me your CV and transcripts..This is not for the job, it's for potential grad studies if you're interested.

Generally, females have higher chances of getting scholarships in STEM programmes, so if you're female and happen to have some nice academic achievements, you have a good chance.

In any case, send me your CV and transcripts but only if you are comfortable doing so.

Everyone wants it, unfortunately not everyone will get it. So to console themselves, they denigrate the achievement. Same way people accuse people who buy luxury products of vanity. Whereas this is something that requires hard work, determination and perseverance. I always respect anyone who has a First Class, whatever the school or discipline.

However, the lack of information on the side of most intellectuals to advance themselves career and education wise further adds to the denigration. For instance, I was told of a first class graduate of Mathematics from Unical opening a provision shop from his proceeds of a scholarship he won while in school shocked. When others see such, they further denigrate the achievement. What Mr Tunde needs is information (quality one) and everything will be OK.

I'm even surprised that as someone from the south west, you're asking this question. I expected it from someone who finished from schools East of the Niger (dem Unical, Uniuyo, Uniport, AKSU, IMSU, RSUST etc). I have a friend who finished with a First Class from Unilag, same discipline as OP, and will soon write her GRE exams (targets above 320), same lass has applied to Accenture. However, there was another who finished still with a First from Uniport, but didn't know what GRE is all about until the Unilag lass elucidated everything about it. Information is powerful!

It's also important to note that not everyone will become an entrepreneur or employee. The way persons on social media seem to recommend entrepreneurship to every grad is worrisome. Operating a business goes beyond buying and selling (what most entrepreneurial advocates do), it requires capital, tenacity, idea etc. Some persons will love to have their enterprise, but after working for some years. Not graduating and starting something, just like that?? Everyone is not the same, unfortunately most Nigerians don't understand this fact! People should be given the support to pursue their dreams as long as they don't commit a crime.

cc: Tunemike.

Thanks, very well written response to my answer. Information indeed is power. I agree that our people from the south-west are at an advantage when it comes to having the right info...Those from far away East or north might find things a little more difficult. Hopefully, we are getting to the era of information convergence, where most people will have access to the same info.

First class is not easy. It's unfortunate some people diss what they haven't or can't achieve. I think it's done to salvage a wounded ego. What I tell people is that there are other ways to prove oneself if one didn't make undergrad first class. Our firm recently hired someone from nairaland here. This person isn't a first class, not even 2:1, but we have been impressed by the quality of work the person produces. I think people can build up themselves and become productive. It is something they ower themselves. One day, opportunity will come.

As for being an entrepreneur, surely the concept of equilibrium is not clear to many..Everybody can't be an entrepreneur, otherwise, the disequilibrium we have in the world will widen even further..In fact, I argue that the limit of everyone turning to an entrepreneur would accelerate the shrinkage in productivity. Advanced climes know this, that's why unemployment data and wage growth are some of the most watched metrics in those places.
Career / Re: Passion For Motivation Speaker ... Please Help? by baum1: 1:41am On Oct 22, 2017
I'm impressed by the quality of responses received so far.

Girl, this is the right time to start it and grow from there.

If you have a chance to join and compete in domestic and hopefully international Toastmasters competition, that would be great..This is one of the most challenging but yet easiest ways to build your brand and practice your craft. I too love public speaking but allowed to much time to go without further building myself or taking it to the next level. Don't do this. Start now.

Another way as someone said is to pick a mentor..This also gives you an easy access to the audience of your mentor. One day, your mentor can wake up and say you will be the one to speak. I attended this guy's event Andy Harrington who is Tony Robins' protege. Tony did this for him and he did it for one Singaporean girl like that.

Pursue this dream, don't let it slip. You will encounter challenges, some will say you're not talented but na lie. That somebody is not well practiced does not mean they are not talented. The same was said about Christiano at Man Uni in his early years. Look at him today....Football Icon.

Good luck girl. Carry go for it.

Guy, if not for self-control, what I would have told you enn...How can you open mouth to say that. And who told you he is condemned to doing the jobs you listed. If first class was that easy, why has it not become pure water proportionately speaking.

This guy will come back here to testify great things. Hope you will be here to reverse your views..That someone is reaching out to possibly more experienced people to get wisdom does not mean they are clueless..They just want to stand out. At my age and level, I still do this very well. Many people more successful and experienced do it..It is called simple consultation..Why won't a young, intelligent and ambitious boy do it..I tire.

I don't know why people are harsh to first class people? I have asked Jarus this question many times. Why do people lose cool and use anything to talk-down first class people. Sad

If some of us who are manage, manage A's (very good) could do well anywhere, then a truly straight A person (outstanding) in Nigeria will do well anywhere even if they hike A+ to 97%. Provided the person remains hardworking.

I always give an example of one of our brethren, only 2 B's throughout BSc, completed PhD in Harvard. In his Harvard class, anybody we can think about was there because that is one of the places where some of the truly gifted or hardworking or both in the world converge..

If they take A to 80% as the man, woman, boy or girl said, people will still blast in Naija..

Jozprecious:
is distinction still around 70% or 75% in ife? it's Time to put it at 80%.

Guy, man or woman, if you're comparing this to US system, it's not a direct comparison. I know that system very well and have been graded in it and others.

A 70% distinction naija system/British is not the same as a 70% US system. It's way, way higher. 70% in naija is not easy to get.

Whether this girl got all 70's, her performance is extremely rare. We all know how smart medicine students are everywhere..She was the best of the best. And big Kudos to her.

If she goes to ''any'' university where A starts from 90, typically US, she will shine, provided others have or had been able to pass through such university.
