samfibby: A topic for people to make up all what not. As a matter of fact, if you are not over sixty years on this forum you have nothing to prove as regards this topic. Imagine someone saying ilajes relating to ijebu. All these are farce, lies. Tomorrow, it will be the urhobos relating to ilaje. ABEEEGGGG MAKE I HEAR WORD!!!!1 undecided
We have people here who are telling lies, just to spite other ethnic groups. Ilaje44 (alj haram) is a very wicked person that engages in thoughtless pursuits that he somehow thinks will endear him to a clique. It is pathetic.

Nice.
Now all thats needed would be good rail, road and water links to ports in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Delta.
This could be a gamechanger for local commerce.

I wonder when the dredging of Benin river and its tributaries will be completed?

Dredging of River Niger completed – Obi’s aide
On April 27, 2012 · In News
By VINCENT UJUMADU

AWKA—THE dredging of River Niger, which was begun few years ago, has been completed and the Onitsha port which is one of the inland ports being built by the Federal Government to service the country’s inland waters is also awaiting commissioning by President Goodluck Jonathan when he visits Anambra State.

Senior Special Assistant to Governor Peter Obi on Inter Party Affairs, Chief Ben Obi, said yesterday that officials of the Federal Inland Waterways Authority had inspected the work and expressed satisfaction with the performance of the contractors.

According to him, the Onitsha port is already providing skeletal services as it is being used by some companies for the clearing of goods, and that business at the port would peak when it is officially commissioned.

He described as misinformation, the statement credited to the president of Anambra Markets Traders Association, ASMATA, Mr. Eze Nwankwo, to the effect that the dredging of River Niger had not been completed.

Obi urged traders in the state to brace up for the commencement of full activities at the River ports built by the Federal Government at strategic towns on the bank of River Niger.

He explained that his office was holding sensitization programmes with various interest groups and other stakeholders that would directly benefit from the dredged river and ports, adding that they were enthusiastically waiting for full operation to begin.

His words: “The dredging of the River Niger and the construction of the Onitsha River port are two projects that have endeared our people to President Jonathan. These are projects that remained on paper for years and with their completion by the present administration, business activities in the South East geo-political zone will be enhanced”.

Boko haram has started going after the softest targets. A sure sign of defeat and desperation.
IMHO: I'll only support Southern Nigeria if there is a high chance the southern Nigeria will divide some more until everyone is whom they wish to be. If not, then I rather have the north with us. I don't see any reason for a southern Nigeria if we are all going to be stuck in the same predicament of staying with people we do not agree with. it is still going to be hell, just a little smaller than before. Simple
It is very likely that it would further divide, except there are strong guarantees of true federalism, regional autonomy and true citizen representation.

We could very easily have:
1. SE + SS, SW, Middle Belt
2. SE, SS, SW, Middle Belt or
3. Southern Nigeria

However you look at it now though, each of the concerned regions needs the others (or at least two of the others) for a successful pull out.

nku5: I thought I was the only one who had noticed these people. In my area one sunday afternoon I went to a very quiet garden and saw a fulani herdsman with a very long cutlass strapped to his right shoulder and a herd of cows chilling in the garden!! The man didn't even look like he was doing anything wrong. He casually nodded a greeting at me and kept on smoking his cigarette
Funny stuff! grin
I keep emphasising and re-emphasing it that nomadic cattle rearing should be banned in Nigeria. We have a long way to go as concerns nomads and our state of security; these are folk with no home addresses that can commit heinious crimes and simply melt into either the crowd or the forest. No one searches them for weapons either.

It is best for the home states of these nomads to provide proper grazing grounds for these itinerant cattle.

df2006: bro, I dey o, too many shildrens, for NL these days, I dey watch from the side lines, now.

the question is why do agrieved people like 13volts who disagee with the style of bombings, allow BH to speak for them?
13volts and many like him are confused.

They think it is a religious/sectional duty to side with the common man in their battle, they tend to cast boko haram as a knight in shining armour, doing battle against corrupt Western ideals. But boko haram is simply a pack of murderers who have indiscriminately killed children, women and hundreds who have no link with either govt or the "hated" Western ways.

That sort of confusion offers boko haram a nest to dwell in.

As for the shildrens, I think its the mods letting things down.

CyberG: It's a RIDICULOUS OVER-SHAME that the pishologist has not deemed it FIT to send all these images to the paid hack president Deadluck! Under his watch, Nigeria has seen untold collapse, non-motion and in fact reversal of its fortunes. These people are poor because the school kid president is spending billions feeding only his big flat nose and over bloated umberellera wife. Shame on their generations and the irritable pestal pishologist! grin grin tongue
It is a state and LG problem. Even toddlers know that, but I guess finger pointing is a dodge to avoid responsibility.
Otherwise, why don't Ilaje's in Delta state suffer the same bestial existence?

Yes, people do.

What is most shocking is the way fellow Nigerians try to brush such evil under the carpet. This thread was deliberately created to attempt to beat me into line concerning the plight of the Ilaje's who are basically a forgotten people.

It is really saddening.
Programming › Re: What Programming Languages Do I Need To Design A Site Like Nairaland? by Beaf: 11:53pm On Apr 26, 2012
broswilli: All programming Languages have their strenght and weaknesses PHP was specifically developed for web programming and it continues to lead in this job Python is a general purpose scripting language its also good for web programming but it would be a lot of work without using frameworks like Django or turbo gears. Visual basic 2.0 and upward are general purpose programing languages. Its not a good idea to use PHP to create a stand alone desktop application though it is possible using PHP GTK BUT THAT WOULD BE A LOT OF WORK. PHP Can be used for very large projects remember facebook uses PHP and mysql. PHP Can be scaled for Mega large projects by compiling and caching the source code
Dat one na lie, bro.
Facebook runs on C++. Who dash PHP?

HipHop for PHP isn't technically a compiler itself. Rather it is a source code transformer. HipHop programmatically transforms your PHP source code into highly optimized C++ and then uses g++ to compile it. HipHop executes the source code in a semantically equivalent manner and sacrifices some rarely used features — such as eval() — in exchange for improved performance. HipHop includes a code transformer, a reimplementation of PHP's runtime system, and a rewrite of many common PHP Extensions to take advantage of these performance optimizations.

All you have to do is check that all combos of two sides a greater than the 3rd. What could be simpler?

Politics › Re: Federal Republic Of South Nigeria by Beaf: 11:31pm On Apr 26, 2012
REP S NIG: The idea of a Southern Nigeria Republic is actually not a novel concept and should not be derided by any person with a proper perspective of History. In point of fact, such a country already existed prior to 1914. It was called the "Colony and Protectorate of Southern Nigeria". The decision to amalgamate this colony with the North was purely economic, inorder to deal with the budget deficits of the North. Please read all about it here -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Nigeria_Protectorate

As such, as Nigeria has almost clocked a 100 years in this amalgamation, and as it is obvious that the cost of the amalgamation will continue to be counted in bloodshed and violence, it is certainly apt to reconsider the amalgamation. In my view, the South, although by no means heterogeneous, is moderate in its approach to things and would make an excellent union if it is able to withdraw from the forced amalgamation of 1914.

I should note that the current Kogi and Kwara states were part of the Colony and Protectorate of Southern Nigeria, but Benue was not. It is my view that these states should by referendum be permitted to determine what side of the divide they would rest with.

In Nigeria, greed and hypocrisy subverts truth. That is why any talk of a break-up is treated like treason or blasphemy. Peaceful break-ups can and have been discussed in many other countries. Of the three very large multi-cultural colonies of the British, only Nigeria remains one republic today. India was broken up into India and Pakistan. Sudan has been broken up into Sudan and South-Sudan. Nigeria's case is only a matter of time: It CANNOT and WILL NOT work.

Only wicked and insensitive people can continue to watch the level of bloodshed generated by this forced union, and continue to insist that the union must remain. Will the bombings stop? Today alone, they have struck two cities in the North again. These are human lives and human beings being torn to pieces everyday. We really should have a conscience and put this thing to a humane end.

It is true that the North will kick on account of crude wealth. The solution is simple. There has to be a safety net for the north. Some reserve of crude should be negotiated their way as a foundation for seed money with which they could develop Commercial level Agriculture and Solid Minerals Industries.

I would also think that retention of the capital city, Abuja - built with crude money only - and commisioned as the most expensive single project in the world at the time of commencement - should be a significant major parting gift for the North. I have travelled around Africa and I can safely say that outside South Africa, Abuja is the best and most beautiful city in sub-saharan Africa. This in itself is a principal advantage the North will take away from an emergent South Nigeria.

Even Scotland will be having a referendum in 2 years time to determine if it will exit the United Kingdom. Same thing happened in Belgium. The people insisting that such cannot even be discussed in Nigeria - despite the bloodshed - are wicked and greedy hypocrites.

How will this be kicked off? It will be difficult. There are too many contending interests. But for it to materialize, there has to be a concerted group actively and openly gathering support for this, until so much support can be gathered that it becomes an electoral issue in a future election to force a candidate to campaign with the promise of at least calling a referendum. That is the minimum - a future referendum: that's what we need to push for.

In the image below: you can see the map within Africa of the previous "Colony and Protectorate of Soutrhern Nigeria."
I really love the idea's in this post; however, I strongly kick against yielding any oil reserves. It is best to part with a rolling grant that will last a number of years. It could start of with say 3billion dollars and gradually decrease to nothing over a 5 or 20 year period.
That way, any break will be done without the need to share physical resources. Best to do such with intangibles.

Neither should we give up either Abuja, Plateau, Taraba or Nasarawa. The dividing line should be from Southern Kaduna downwards.
Politics › Re: Boko Haram: Why We Attacked Thisday by Beaf: 11:21pm On Apr 26, 2012
df2006: @13 volts, as you say the media is unfair, to the north, what is stoping it from building its own media, to counter, what you consider to be false stories? rather intemidation such as bombing is used, does it solve the problem? you do not support the bombings u say, what then if I might ask is your solution? I ask all this, because from what I see, BH is fighting on your behalf.
Bruv, where you de since? How your side?

I don't see the point in anyone countering stories. The problem is in the core-North, its not like its in the SE, SW, SS or Middle Belt.
Who can recall anybody talking about bad press when there was the militancy crisis in the ND? The people simply carried their cross; that is the way it should be.
