I don't particularly care for this ACN vs LP struggle in Ondo State.

IMO, more can be achieved by forming alliance with Mimiko than opposing him, it's not like he's performed woefully from what I've heard. A zero sum game is not the best option for both parties at this time.

I don't like the smell of this at all. It does not smell like smart politics to me.
ACN is a zero sum party of rascals.
I trust the Iroko, Mimiko, who is way above average as a governor and politian to put those thugs where they belong.

The little respect I have for him is now gone. I started suspecting he was dubious when he started is issues with Mimiko and the FG, atleast he is not the only ACN chieftain in Nigeria. Tinubu who is their oga has got class and highly intelligent but this Aregbe acts like a rascal, no wonder those guys were asking for his medical report the other day. I pity the poor people of Osun, a state blessed with rich history in the Yoruba race. They do not deserve a governor like Aregbe.
Exactly! A state with such an imponderably rich cultural heritage that is a jewel of Nigeria like Osun deserves better than the lying thug called Aregbesola.
The same way he has lied about O-Power, he also lied about bringing the railway back to Osun (another FG project); the same way he lied about giving free farmlands to farmers (only to beat the living spirits out of them); the same way he lied about being in partnership with Julius Berger and the World Bank; the same way he lied about paying Osun workers 13 months salary's. I'll stop now, but is easy to fill several pages with Aregbesola's shameless lies and high stories.

Anytime I show a movement I am part of on NL, people (much in your type of makeup) call it a fraud, call us all sorts of names and try to pull a good thing down. It is part of the problem of the African, there are too many traumatic issues blinding the eye of the mind from roaming beyond plastic bounderies to see exciting possibilities and enriching alternatives.

OzReal: I'm not exactly sure what it is about that quote you disagree with; neither did i state or imply that the whites are naturally more intelligent than black people. In fact, there nothing that vexes me more than hearing that statement. I believe I said that there is something inherently amiss with us, which I simply cannot give a rational explanation. However, let us be very practical here and answer these questions: Why is it that there is no developed nation on the African continent? Why is there no nation on earth where there is a black majority developed?

I'll state again that it is my fervent belief that our culture impedes our development. Granted, no one is born with a particular 'culture'; yet this is what we learn in our formative years. I cannot speak for other countries, but no matter how progressive we think we may be, the average Nigerian male or female is still very conservative when it comes to traditional practices. I stated earlier that we have unquestionable respect for elders, which I believe is very admirable for we Nigerians; however, I believe that this is a particular trait that has made the so-called leaders we have take us for granted everyday. Each time we criticize our leaders, we are branded as being disrespectful; thus, suffering in silence. This has made these guys continue unchallenged. While the after-effects of colonialism are still being felt in our country(e.g implementation of IMF and World bank policies), we Nigerians(leaders and citizens alike) are still our biggest problem.
It is strictly an African problem, bro. Its got nothing to do with being black, you will find that there are indeed developed countries peopled and led by blacks of African descent (the slaves sold by our ancestors).
Until we get to face the facts of our poor history, our societies will continue to go round in circles of confusion and bewilderment, brought on by our escapism. The parts we played in selling ourselves both to the colonial master and slave dealer needs to be faced squarely, because wether we admit it or not, the poverty of the many due to the corruption of the few is the same trade going on in a different guise, we just love to give it big names like "ethnic bigotry" and "corruption."
Because it has little to do with the FG and States that can meet the obligation of counterpart funding have the right to get credit for their effort. UNIDO initiated this and, as usual the FG, has left participating States to their own fate.

Success or failure is entirely dependent on counterpart fundings. This is why I keep asking you guys to show which State, like Osun, has deemed it expedient to contribute the counterpart fundings to get this going in the first place.

If you cannot do that, then you are only admitting that OSun is directly responsible for making a success of what others are failing at. Commendation must at least follow that effort.
Stuff gets funnier! grin

The information on NASENI's website is scant plus you are rather ignorant about power generation and measures of energy output. I warned you about how you will disgrace youself because you are now a mischief-maker and this predisposes you to not doing your research .

15KW literally is 15000 watts. Do you know what that powers? If you answer that then I can indulge you further. Suffice to say Osun is not making this announcement base on getting 15KW of power as you and your olodo co-traveller Beaf thinks. Below is a 15KW portable generator and only a m.or.on would think this is what Osun is making all this noise about. Shame on you and the ignorance you display here. The 15KW turbine was munufactured by NASENI or does Aregbesola run NASENI too? Lol! With his past history of shameless lies and brazen claims to authorship of FG projects in Osun, that wouldn't be in the least bit surprising.

The turbine being installed in Osun is basically an FG research project into the feasibility of locally manufactured crossflow mini turbines. That is why it is only 15KW.

Aregbesola's cement filled brain must have equated 15KW with 15MW, so he quickly ran to press to claim it and sent out his most trusted OsunDefender reading winsh (your kind self) to come and fly around NL, telling fibs to defend tall stories.

Development agencies generally become active partners when counterpart funding, a measure of committment, is released. If Osun proactively supplies counterpart funding, why should it not lay claim to making the scheme succeed considering similar planned hydropower project elsewhere will never amount to anything, beyond being potential projects, without the financial committment of States?

Also, why can Osun not call this O-power when , via meeting its counterpart funding, it has effectively secured it own 'franchise'?

Read properly and you will see that NASENI was invited to perhaps provide technical project checks-and-balances. NASENI has not initiated anything nor has the FG. The onus is still on States to partner with UNIDO to make hydro projects work .

This is the full article from the NASENI website:

Small Hydro Power (SHP) PDF Print E-mail

Small Hydro Power (SHP) Plants are used to generate electricity even from small water bodies. The Agency is developing capacity in the manufacture of SHP Equipments. It has been estimated that the total Small Hydro Power (SHP) Potential in the country could reach 3,500MW, representing 23% of the country's total hydropower potential. With this potential in SHP, there will be a growing demand for local capacities in the development of this technology in the nation.

In order to make small hydropower viable in Nigeria, there is a need to minimize/optimize the investment cost through the development of local capacity in construction techniques and equipment fabrication.

OBJECTIVES OF NASENI SHP PROJECT

To develop local manufacturing capacity on Small Hydropower equipment
To midwife the establishment of local manufacturing companies for electromechanical equipment / component parts for Small Hydro Power (SHP) Plants.
To midwife the establishment of Small Hydropower Equipment Development Institute
To survey the possibility of integrating Small Hydro Power plants in the large number of dams in Nigeria, currently used for water supply and irrigation only.

NASENI-SHP Â ; The Journey So Far

In the late 2007, UNIDO called NASENI to a Stakeholders Meeting on the Local Manufacturing of Small Hydro Power Equipment in the African region. NASENI has been selected as the Host Agency and the Representative of the Nigerian Government on the Project. While UNIDO awaits Nigeria's Counterpart Funding, Crossflow Turbine has been selected for the first production involving Nigerian engineers and using local technology.

The first phase of the project is expected to produce and test prototype of Crossflow turbine within 12months from take off. The next phase is to mass produce the turbines which will be used to establish pilot SHP plants in selected African countries and eventually to service the SHP equipment demand for the African Sub-Region.

Ten (10) sites have been selected from the Six Geopolitical Zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for installation of SHP Plants for Electricity Generation.

S/n Site / Community State / Geopolitical Zone Capacity (KW)
1 Ketti AMAC / FCT 0kW
2 Kwaita KWALI / FCT 10kW
3 Kurmu Daudu BWARI / FCT 10kW
4 Eboji ABAJI / FCT 10kW
5 Obudu Cattle Resort CROSS RIVER 30kW
6 Ta Hoss Community PLATEAU 100kW
7 Ikeji-Ile Ijesha OSUN 15kW
8 Iguoriakhi Farm Settlement EDO 75kW
9 Sabke-Mai ¡dua KATSINA About 150kW

Governors Urge FG to remove fuel subsidy

A major showdown is imminent over the N18,000 minimum wage.

Governors have asked the Federal Government to immediately remove subsidy on petroleum products and haul the proceeds into the Federation Account to be shared. This, in their view, will give the states more cash to pay the least paid worker N18,000.

But labour seems to be opposing the removal of subsidy as a pre-condition for the implementation of the law on the payment of the minimum wage.

The governors took the decision to press for the removal of subsidy on petrol products, which the government says costs billions monthly at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) meeting on Tuesday night in Abuja.

Besides removal of subsidy, the governors insist on the need to review the revenue allocation formula, which is lopsided in favour of the Federal Government.

It takes 52 per cent. The 36 states share 26.72 per cent and the 774 local governments take 20.60 per cent.

The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola Committee raised by the governors has recommended a review of the revenue allocation as follows: Federal Government (35 per cent), States (42 per cent) and local governments (23 per cent). The report has been approved by the Forum.

The implementation of that report topped the agenda of the governors’ delegation’s meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday at the Aso Villa in Abuja.

The governors’ delegation was led by Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who is also the chairman of the Forum. Other members of the seven-man team are Governors Fashola (Lagos), Tanko Makura (Nasarawa), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Sullivan Chime (Enugu), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo) and Patrick Yakowa (Kaduna).

Haters and negative folks can say what they want. This is a legitimate project that Osun is running with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial development organization). Since OYES, Osun has benefitted from a lot of goodwill from developmental agencies always keen to partner with serious Government to improve employment, infrastructure, health and food security in developing Nations. At some stage, it will dawn on Nairalander that the likes of Beaf are destroying this forum. Look at other forum and see if they behave like animals as Beaf leads many to behave here. Ordinarily, these sort of topic should be discussed amiably if we are all genuinely interested in the progress of every corner of Nigeria. There is a lot everyone can learn about our nation if discussions remain amicable and educational.

It is even sad to see Wesley80, a chap with an analytical mind who used to do justice to threads with logical criticism, now turn mischief-maker because of the assumption it is now fashionable to be that way. Beaf is a cretin , with the mind of a 6 year old, who deserves only to be laughed off the forum for his childish antics. Him and his goons are turning this forum into the most divided, most hateful and most bellicose Nigerian forum in cyberspace. One would think most posters will be wise enough to avoid Beaf given the numerous times he has been discredited as an empty barrel and ignorant airhead.

UNIDO is assisting Osun with this because of the implication for the establishment of an International market. The agro-allied industries supplying the market and other associated industry (food processing for example) will need constant power to make the whole project a commercially successful one. The most laudable plans for industrial/agricultural development will fail if Governors can't find ways to secure constant power.

It is obvious that their real target is Dr James Adekola; he seems to be the one most involved in the research (by the womans words and the fact that part of the companies registration mentions Lagos). They only went for Dr Rapinder Adekola, because she was percieved as a weaker target.

IMHO, this is a clear case of racism. angry

okosodo: They are shielding them jare, if not , why are they still powerful. They will only regret their actions.
The revealation is in Sheikh Pantami's words:

Sheikh Pantami: He says the government, itself, is to blame for the country’s worsening security challenges. “It’s because of injustice by the federal government -- including some state governments perpetrated -- it is as a result of that [that] we are witnessing what is happening today,” said Pantami.

“Wherever you do injustice, that injustice could definitely invite atrocity to your community. So if we want to tackle that problem, let us not just criticize northern Muslims or northern elders. Let us look critically, [at] what the federal government has done and at the same time what some state governments have done.”
From the above load of illogical crap, it isn't difficult to conclude that Sheikh Pantami is part of the group.

2buff: Are you minding these primitive people?
Millenia have passed and their thinking has not changed. Preferring instead to sit in a bush and moan and complain about everything everyone but themselves has done to them.
Bullshit aside, if you truly look at the history of your continent, you will see that the slave trade thing was orchestrated by blacks.
White men didn't come to enslave you, they came as merchants. And you were all selling out yourselves as products. So enough with all the noise.

So by your complaining and blaming, you are essentially saying "It's okay that our kinsmen captured each other, put themselves in chains and put each other on public slave market. That's perfectly understandable. However, why did the white men, who needed cheap labor etc, buy these products?" . . . This is the what they are all saying. Sadly, it is unfortunate that thinking things through is not one of the strongpoints of africans.

The beginning of you all rising out of your slums is the accepting of responsibility that yes indeed, you are where you are because of YOU and not white man, red man, green man, etc.
Accepting responsibility for where you are in life is a VERY empowering thing. If it is important to you, accepting that it was the BLACKS that were responsible for the slave trade and not the whites will dawn the epiphany required to do things better.

You have to understand what BLAMING things other than yourself does to your psyche.
Sometime, you should accept the blame for a thing. You will be left stronger for it. THIS is the leadership spirit Africa needs today, not that of complainers and blamers...
Simples. cool
