Dapo, its a lot more complex than that. You are looking at it from the ethnic lens and it should not be so. Ijaws and Ilajes produce 25% and 10% respectively in delta state but more on that later. You see, Delta state is not about "make I favour my people" because your "people" alone did not get you there. Ijaws en-mass voted for Uduagan also, among other ethnic groups.
Tell him bro, he has his beady eye glued on oil. cheesy
Beaf, I don't think that is a big deal. Even if your map is accurate, what can the distance be? 30 miles?

Just buy/lease a 30 mile strip of road to connect the two regions. Costs a few million a year or something.

Alaska doesn't border the lower 49, Russia has a territory in mainland Europe (bordering Germany or Poland or something), etc.
The big problem is that you cannot slice Urhobo territory, same goes with Ijaw.
Above all, as long as there are rich oil and gas reserves that will border on national security, the idea is a complete non-starter.

By the way, the distance is more than 30 miles and the only possible overland route is through Benin and through vast stretches of Urhobo land. The prospect is quite far-fetched really.

No so fast, ekt_bear. The last time checked, not availability of contiguous land between Itsekiri and SW presented a major challenge. How were you able to overcome this? I think he will be better off in his Bendel state. Lol.

Anyway, I have no problem with Itsekiri, Kwara and Kogi joining their brethren in the SW. Cultural identity will prevail over threat and terror in the final analysis.
Maybe na magic dem go use connect parts of Warri, all of Koko, and parts of Sapele to Ondo state. Na winsh?
lol!

If we split, it would be best for the whole of the Middle Belt and South to stick together. But if the SW leadership continues to plot a separate identity and direction that's different to the rest of the South and umbilically connected to the core-North, then we're cool with MB/SE/SS. If the MB wants its own country, that's understandable and we'll be cool with natural allies in the SE.
If non of the above work, then its the old Bendel as Jason123 is suggesting, right now I only see SE/SS though.

in the punditry of hard currency, your intelligence has to be lower than the zimbabwean dollar and it's no exaggeration.
how can one be so ridiculously daft not to know his left from right?

no one ever called for prime ministers' resignation because terrorism was the only issue the united kingdom were dealing with then. nigeria today is dealing with electricity, unemployment, oil subsidy, bribery and corruption, high wave of crime, and hundreds of other issues. nigeria is going backwards under jonathan and you have the gall to say someone has no intelligence quotient? are you aware yours is in the negative integer?

if i have constant power, good job, affordable fuel price, a working system and a crime rate that is lower than 5%, i would be confident in the government to deal with boko haram. one bad apple wouldn't spoil the whole bunch. but in a situation where basic things are lacking, nigerians should kick out jonathan. he's shown he's not competent to run a family compound, let alone run a country.
Isn't it strange how you first implied that the British would ask their Prime Minister to resign if the IRA events occurred today (like their political maturity has gone out of fashion or something)? Now, you are stepping on your own tongue and claiming that the British didn't demand their Prime Ministers resignation, because the only problem they had was the IRA. Lol!
You make it up as you go don't you?

The IRA has been with the British since 1919 with the Irish War of Independence, and since then, Britain has seen several ups and downs; the Great Depression, coal miners strikes of 84-85, the 1974 strike, the recession of the early 80's that saw a great portion of people lose their houses, the two World Wars etc. Yet, they never voiced that their leader resign, even when the IRA attempted bombing downing street and killing the whole cabinet.

Dude, its much easier for your type to make things up and talk stup!dly, cos all you have to do is open your gob and let the ooze drain out. Perhaps, you've only said these things in a desperate bid not to be seen as either unrefined, a traitor, coward, or a bigot; but you really haven't helped yourself, because you really have to be unrefined, a traitor, coward, or a bigot to ask your President to resign in the face of boko haram.

However to answer your. With that cleared, I would dearly love to know where you got the idea about the core-Norths "agricultural prowess."
To my layman's eye, there is only evidence of decay, lost groundnut pyramids, forgotten cotton plantations; this aside the sad fact that most of our agricultural produce actually comes from the Middle Belt states of Benue, Plateau, Taraba and Adamawa. Goats and sheep are predominantly imported from Niger.
Please could you unlock the mystery of the core-Norths "agricultural prowess?" I am willing to learn.

Politics › Re: Nigerians are More Optimistic Than Westerners - BBC by Beaf: 8:37pm On Nov 08, 2011
Nigerians are optimistic because they don't know what they are doing.
We have abandoned the art of critical thinking and embraced sensational emotionalism that religion provides.

The average person cannot be blamed for that state of mind in a country that has failed repeatedly for 51 damn years. In fact we have failed so many times that the average person is too bruised to even correctly identify the source of their problems, talkless of how to resolve them.
All they have left is the imaginary World of religion where there is only hope and "joy." It will take years to pull back from 51 years of constant trauma and restore our thought processes to normal.

I'm not surprised that you can smell my alleged fear over cyberspace after all your boss was wise enough to clear his nostrils to smell the threat of BH and made a U-turn and celebrated independence in his parlour. I am pleased that your deficiency in economics is quickly compensated for in the ability to smell.

I am all for division, which as a matter of fact, is inevitable. However, I would not for the evil nature of a few northerners, demean them like you and your cohorts have been doing. Would I want Oodua to have relations with Arewa in the eventual separation? Absolutely yes! Why? Because they are a very hard working lot and would be good for business agricultural wise.

Now, tell me if I would want to do business with the ND? Probably not. What would they provide? Fish? No, their rivers are polluted so that leaves us with oil. However, oil as we know is restricted to the control of the elites so they would in the long run not be of any benefit to the ooduites. I wouldn't even bother with the okoros because other than substandard good, they bring absolutely nothing to the table. The boast of manpower and I say we have mor. They boast of movies, and I say we get our own. So what manner of trade would I engage in with this group of people.

After all said and done, the long and short of it is that with agriculture, the north trumps the se/ss put together and would be more viable than you loud mouths!

Thanks to the north, you guys can eat beef instead of eating human flesh as it was/is done in iboland or poisoned fish as in the ND!

The north na una baba anyday!

This is not about people trusting the SE or not, by the way trust is not a very popular item in Nigeria market, no one trust the other. So shove your trust down your throat.

The question is how exactly will a Northern enclave be run, without oil money (assuming the SE/SS and their collaborators successful 'steal' the oil).
How will the North live, and what will they do? Thats is the question we need you to answer.
With the current state of cultural attitudes, it is quite clear that it will look like Yemen or Somalia, at best, the bad lands of Western Pakistan. Boko haram will strut the tuff and run things like al shabab; whipping women in the streets and holding summary execution by stoning or bullet on every street corner.

The core-North desperately needs a change of leadership, so that the vast majority of core-Northerners, who are not bad people, can have true representation, purpose and developmental direction.

BH is well known to be concentrated in Maiduguri/Borno axis. If tomorrow, GEJ sends 3 apache to clear out suspected militant camps, I am pretty sure a thread will be opened to discuss how he is wiping out the Northerners. The situation is very volatile and dicey. Any sensible person will see that this man is not having it easy. Boko haram has made it clear that they are fighting for an Islamised Nigeria that is based on sharia, but here you arguing the opposite. Its called self deception.

About not trusting the SE? That is purely a core-Northern thing that arose from the war and it is something that says to the unbiased observer that the SE has been deliberately maligned and subjugated for the benefit of the core-North, a region that has put religious considerstions before humanity and allowed itself be driven into a spiral of ever increasingly shortsighted cultural policies. It takes a certain degree of societal closed mindedness for evil like boko haram to flourish.
The deep societal malaise in the core-North has been driven even deeper by a virulently parasitic elite who have totally written off the core-Norths economic potential for a cup of oil from the SS with two sugars from the SE and milk from the SW.
