FG Moves to Unveil Economic Blueprint By Ndubuisi Francis 21 Aug 2011 A new economic blueprint to drive President Goodluck Jonathan’s avowed transformation agenda is to be unfolded this week by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. THISDAY learnt that the minister was meant to unveil the blueprint last Thursday during her maiden press conference but had to call it off a few hours to the event to review one or two issues in the document with the presidency before it is made public. Articulating the blueprint, which is considered a radical approach to putting the economy on a sound footing, was one of the activities that had engaged the minister’s attention prior to her inauguration last Wednesday by Jonathan. Although details of the blueprint remain under wraps, sources said Jonathan had given a hint of what is incorporated in the document during last Friday’s inauguration of the 24-member Economic Management Team. He had said on the occasion that the team, which has Okonjo-Iweala as the coordinating minister for the economy, has the task of giving Nigeria “greater fiscal discipline, a continuously improved framework to support local and international investors, and effective macroeconomic and monetary policies.” The president’s inauguration of the Committee on the Restructuring and Rationalisation of Federal Government Parastatals and Agencies is also an indication that the blueprint is one that has taken into consideration, reports and recommendations of various committees and bodies on how to cut down the unwieldy recurrent expenditure, which Okonjo-Iweala has consistently bemoaned. The president at last Friday’s inauguration had tasked the economic management team to “fast-track the implementation of the medium term plan in line with our commitment to the realisation of the Vision 2020 aspirations. “Our people want to see improvements not only in terms of reduced inflation, higher economic growth and economic diversification but also in job creation, better school enrolment, improved access to health care and a more sustainable environment. “They want regular and sustainable electricity supply, higher purchasing power, social infrastructure, and in every sense, this is all about the economy.” Membership of the body includes Jonathan as chairman; Vice President Namadi Sambo, as vice chairman; Okonjo-Iweala and two governors - Peter Obi of Anambra State (Honorary Presidential Adviser on Finance) and Murtala Nyako of Adamawa (Honorary Presidential Adviser on Agriculture). The Ministers of National Planning, Trade and Investment, Power, Petroleum Resources, Agriculture, Works, Education, Health, State for Finance and Health are also members of the team. Others are the Central Bank of Nigeria governor; the President’s Chief Economic Adviser, Special Adviser on Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Directors Generals of the Budget, Debt Management Office, Bureau for Public Enterprises, Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Commission as well as the President of the Nigerian Economic Society (who is Honorary Adviser on Economy) and Mr. Atedo Peterside Four new members who were added last Friday include cement entrepreneur Aliko Dangote; managing director of Access Bank Plc, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru and president of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Kola Jamodu. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fg-moves-to-unveil-economic-blueprint/96812/ |

BetaThings:Learn one important lesson; it is really foolish to bring ones religion into govt or politics. It doesn't matter whether it is Christianity, Islam or Zoroastrianism. Its just irritating the way some of you think anybody gives a hoot about what you are in private. Religion in govt leads to backwardness and bloodshed. |
Gbawe:I see you're so dissapointingly daft! ![]() Keep exposing your bewildering Daftness for all to see. One Id!ot mentions Delta state and the other talks of its governor being Sylva. Did you miss any vitamins or vital milk while growing up? LOLZZZ!!! Go and weep for Aregbesola the clown. |
Demdem:All you can do is emit gas like the fool you are. Lol! Jealousy will kill you o! ![]() |
Gbawe:Lol! Bigot, why not create a few more stup!d threads like this one in the vain hope that I will stop having a go at the clown, Aregbesola? I'm not surprised that you think both Sylva and Uduaghan are the governors of my state, it takes the pure and unadulterated version of daftness you possess to reach such a conclusion. . . .Weapons-grade idiocy! ![]() |
This is something I think that needs to be emphasized. The PDP governors in the SW were sooooooooo bad! They may have been the worst governors in Nigeria, period. You know my governor Segun Oni was spending state money on a dairy farm, right? Beaf, what you don't seem to get is that a state like mine cannot afford bad leaders. Every dollar is precious and must be spent intelligently. We simply cannot have lackwit (or corrupt) governors, otherwise the state will not progress economically. Read about this rail project that was presented at the ACN governors meeting for example: http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/16649-the-acn-speed-rail-project.html What impact do you think this will happen on a rural state like Ekiti if you can essentially make it a suburb of Lagos? The suburb of Houston my parents live in 30 or 40 years ago was undeveloped bush. But now it is a town even wealthier per capita than the city (Houston) it a suburb of! Will you ever see such forward thinking and broadness of vision from the PDP in Yorubaland? No way! Anyway, I don't begrudge people the choice of PDP if they want. People need to choose whatever party they are happy with. But at least in my own homeland (Yorubaland), we have rejected PDP thoroughly. Others in other zones can do what they like, I don't care.
Everyone knows there were problems with PDP in the SW, but there's a new game in town and the over-the-top bigotry that accompanies ACN is the thing that has already killed it. There are big visions everywhere in today's Nigeria. PDP was good for other parts of the country which is why they are still in power and look unshakable; my state saw a leap in development (as it is still seeing), even though Ibori saw more joy in theft which he is paying for. I don't get carried away by ideas like the high speed rail, which would just be a huge white elephant. That sort of thing possibly needs its own power station, efficient telecoms, a huge IT network and well trained staff. People love to hear big dreams bandied about, thats why it was mentioned. But Nigeria does not yet have the foundations for such a project; we've got to start small, before expanding into such. At this time, it would need tonnes of expatriates to succeed, and when it does, too few would be able to afford its services, Put mildly, it was a bad project to canvass at this point in time when jobs are desperately needed. A pie in the sky. The time to be carried away is when MOU's and actual construction contracts get signed. Ideas are present everywhere and in all parties. What is needed is the will to actually take off. We had that happening in my state recently, with an estimated $16billion worth of investments to build the biggest industrial area in Africa; its actually kicking off and ticking all boxes and its all PDP. Similar is happening in Bayelsa, and its all PDP. It will happen in Lagos, even if to a lesser scale; and its all PDP. Not pie in the sky, but happening before our eyes. I am talking of tectonic plate moving initiatives to drive Nigeria firmly on the path of industrialisation. Dude, the country is taking off like an F-22, but many don't realise it, cos we are cuaght up in our various little regions or ethnic groups. |
^ Quite a few of the tiny parties have equivalent spread. PDP's only opposition is PDP. Gbawe:At last, the truth emerges from the chief priest of the evil forest! ![]() I wonder what in your definition meets "f.u.cked up badly?" Could it be one of:
[li]Abandoning his state to live in Lagos[/li] [li]Telling workers he wasn't elected to pay them[/li] [li]Waiting for dry season (which will be his second) to begin doing his job[/li] [li]Staying in his state only 3 day a month[/li] [li]Spending more time abroad than in his state[/li] [li]Using more money on estacode and flight tickets than is required to pay the striking workers he is irresponsibly refusing to pay[/li] [li]Making grand sounding, quixotic speeches and doing fuckall[/li]
LOLZZZ!!! |
I don't expect the ACN to ever be the part of choice for Igbos and Hausa. But there will be a time when it also the party of the minority groups of the middle belt, at least. Depending on what happens with their judicial challenges, it may be the party of two states in that zone (Kwara and Benue) in as little as the next few years. I wonder if they will still call the ACN an ethnic party when it becomes the preferred choice of some of the minority groups in this country. Anyway, I apologize to you all for derailing this into a discussion about the ACN. That is not the topic of this thread.
Lol, dude. That is the real topic, some folk just can't grasp that I truly deslike crabs like Aregbesola, just I desliked Ibori; so they go about opening threads to slam Delta state out of their bigoted perspective on life. As for ACN being the party of minorities, as long as the current PDP project remains on course, that will not even remotely happen. PDP is no man's land, same can't be said of ACN. |
First of all, when did Edo become Yorubaland? How are you able to throw away the success of the ACN so quickly in that state? Second, you bring up APGA that will not even retain Anambra when Peter Obi's tenure ends? APGA that got its teeth kicking in by ACN in its own backyard? APGA, where it looks like they may already even be regretting Okorocha? DPP, the Urhobo party that cannot even win in Delta? Labour, that is only in SW? These are the mushroom parties you want to compare ACN to? ![]() Your hatred has blinded you too much, man. Anyway, count up the # of elected offices that ACN has outside of SW and Edo, since you seem to think that Edo is Yorubaland for some reason. If ACN doesn't have more than Labour and APGA, I'll eat my hat.
If wishes were horses. . . You might be enthusiastic about ACN, but that is not playing out on the ground. As for DPP being an Urhobo party, tell me thats a joke sha. ![]() I would never have thought that the former National Chairman of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) Gen. Jeremiah Useni was Urhobo, neither will his Plateau state people too. The name of the current chairman, Biodun Ogunbiyi doesn't sound Urhobo either. It is valid to compare the national spread of what you call, mushroom parties to that of ACN, so it drives home the point that it is a regional party with few hopes of expanding. At least not with the ethnically centred speeches and comments that regularly come from its leaders. |
Oh, regarding your comment of "The only above average governor in ACN is Fashola". . . hehe. All I can say is that you don't follow Ekiti State politics at all like I do. If the ACN keeps delivering rockstars like Fayemi, then I don't see how they will ever lose the state. And dude has been in office for what, 9 months? Dude gets it. And I'm not even handicapping for the Nigerian setting, I mean for a global one. This is something that I can say for only a few politicians in Nigeria, at any level. And I say this as a man from what was once a virulently PDP town (and still has those elements there.)
Maybe Fayemi is going to be good. He just has not yet made his mark like Fashola, more than that, it does not dilute the perception of ACN as an ethnically centred party out to benefit a core. After the blood shed in the ND, no such party will ever make inroads there; its a life or death thing. I also do not see ACN being able to overcome their ethnic slant to expand beyond the SW. After Oshiomole's term ends, Edo will be up for grabs by every party in the country. |
^ In case you didn't notice, I am now conversing with more intelligent beings than yourself.
What ethnicity is the ACN centered around? Out of curiosity? And if your answer is Yoruba. . . then how the hell are they winning elections outside of Yorubaland? Are Edo people for example so silly that they'd vote for a Yoruba ethnic nationalist party? What of Anambrarians? The people of Benue nko? (if I had to bet money, Ugbah will win that seat sooner or later in the courts.) If the ACN is a bigoted party, then they must be using juju to get non-Yoruba to vote for them. As for me personally, I don't care if the ACN are ethnic bigots or not. For all I know Governor Fayemi is a demon-worshipper. And has a status of Hitler in his home. I don't care. . . so long as he governs well.
How many elections are they winning outside the SW and Edo? Maybe four or five? Compare that with Labour and DPP (ANPP and APGA to an extent) which are much smaller parties. Edo has always allied with the SW. Delta used to in the past, but not anymore, especially after the bloodshed that was brought on us. |
^ The only progress in your direction was correctly labelling you as a fool. Lol! See, the ND is suffering, and while I do not like GEJ at all (I believe the ND could have chosen a better man) the power to decide lies in the hands of a few looters and thieves in this country (IBB, OBJ and co comes to mind) I think there is a feeling in town that GEJ can break away from the influence of these folks and their military-civilian cabal ( I have reason to believe that some younger aides of GEJ mostly from the ND support this notion and partnered with GEJ to actualize the Agenda. But I think they are underestimating the power of the "owners of Nigeria"There is nothing standing today that can't come crashing down, bro. We have already seen IBB's wings clipped in a few short weeks, so he gone around ranting like a madman. We saw obj make an angry speech abroad. Why do you think these things are happening? Dude, the generals are losing power and the evidence is everywhere. Nigeria is being siezed from the clutches of vultures, vampires and their hoards of bats. As long as GEJ is in power, nobody can stop us setting our foot on the path of development. |
Demdem:The truth is what is contagious, not me. You have simply been made to look the fool that you are playing. |
^ The only above average governor in ACN is Fashola. Those like Aregbesola are no more than clowns and the very same sort of primitive Nigerian that has kept the place underdeveloped. No amount of whitewashing can change visible facts, you're only fooling yourself as usual.
ACN is by no means perfect. But at least for us in Ekiti State, it is better than the alternatives. The governor of our state actually seems to know what he is doing, unlike the guys we had in the past. I understand that you don't like Tinubu. But the ACN also has Fashola and Fayemi (among other good folks.) The good outweighs the bad, I think. Imo if you dislike the ACN, you should push your party to trot out better candidates. A negative campaign (one of calumny like you are doing) is unlikely to be as effective as a positive one.
Nobody would distrust or deslike ACN if their utterances weren't so ethnically centred. The issues that Nigeria faces are common to all of us, yet we see in ACN, a party that would sell to the highest bidder all of the time, while singing an ethnic tune. Its just wrong and really stinks to high heavens. As for choosing better people in the PDP, well all parties produce the good, the bad and the ugly. Afterall, Aregbesola is in ACN just like Fashola is, yet they couldn't be more opposite. Its the same as Ibori was in the very same PDP that has produced Sullivan Chime, Sule Lamido etc. No party should be centred around ethnicity or they will suffer the fate of ACN and be seen as a regional party that hosts a lot of bigots. |
Demdem:For showing you up to be a fool? Check out your very own stellar contradictions: demdem:
Beaf probably isn't a bad chap overall. The problem is that for whatever reason, he seems to view the ACN and SW zone as his enemy.i dont think BEAF see it that way. stand to be corrected though
In other words, you believe Delta State to be a microcosm of Nigeria, yet you still ask the daft question: BEAF, HAS DELTA STATE GONE TO THE DOGS?Perhaps, Delta state made your Aregbesola daft and irresponsible too? ![]() |
Beaf probably isn't a bad chap overall. The problem is that for whatever reason, he seems to view the ACN and SW zone as his enemy. Why that is, I have no clue. . . the likelihood of Beaf's chosen faction of the PDP wrestling power away from the Northern faction without at least neutrality from the ACN and SW is pretty much nil. Much of your post I agree with. This in particular I think is 100% correct. More specifically, Delta State seems to me a microcosm of Nigeria. At least from what I hear about it.
I have absolutely nothing against the SW, but I view ACN as a pack of wolves, criminals and pretenders. nigeria cannot change with that bunch anywhere near power. . . and Nigeria MUST change. |

I will probably contact you guys via the site and see how it goes.
Get someone who can make them, or an expert to take a look. It shouldn't cost you too much to begin creating them. You might want to wait for the manual yam harvester though, that will be dead easy for you to commercialise and improve your community. We want all africans to begin getting their hands dirty, developing and making money for themselves and their communities at the same time. |

But you can go through the writeups on them, we hope to get foreign uni's interested in developing those two products in particular. They are also entirely free for folk like yourself to try out, so if you need more detail create a thread or ask on the thread devoted to the invention and someone will get to you. By the way, there is also a manual yam harvester, but thats not yet uploaded. The manual version should be the easiest to produce. Dude, test us.
