Katsina-Alu is leaving the Nigerian judiciary permanently in a few short days. It seems silly to have sued him, but I believe it was all for show. Salami's goose is cooked.
Both he and Katsina-Alu have no place in the judiciary, its not a place for learned men to grapple like kids with no concern for the image of Nigeria.

Abeg go and rest! Be quiet if you have nothing of importance to add to the topic.

The OP specifically asked for civility and the first thing Mobinga does is pop in with absolutely zero arguments to mock the OP. Then a couple of us pip in and the same ignorant twit pops in asking stup!d questions and mocking. How can a developer be loud yet empty, only to turn around and mock others?
Dude, if you support that I won't be shocked, your antecedents precede you.

Do you have anything of use to add to the topic? huh

This is a highly informative topic that will be of immense help to a lot of those still in school, as well current C#, WPF and possibly Win32/COM devs. Lets get our heads screwed on and leave foolishness apart.

It would be recalled that Mr Femi Fani-Kayode in a statement last week, said rather than call Gen Ibrahim Babangida a fool, former President Olusegun Obasanjo should be grateful to Babangida for getting him out of jail, securing him pardon, rehabilitating him, funding and installing him as president in 1999.

Fani Kayode said: “The press statement that I issued on August 22, 2011, concerning the face off between President Olusegun Obasanjo and Gen Ibrahim Babangida has been completely misconstrued and misunderstood by virtually all and sundry.

“I do not blame anyone for this but my own good self, given that my choice of words was clearly ambivalent.

Do I need to make an argument? Its a question, How does that blog assert this

?? Simple question really.
With due respect, its a stup!d question. cool
No developer is expected to ask such, we are all supposed to be highly clued up on technology.

Read and inform yourself before joining arguments. Luckily, its easy to trap your type, we just allow you run around making daft statements, then gboza! We shoot you down. Lol! Its a terrible place to be.

Today, we also talked a bit about how developers will build apps for the new system. Windows 8 apps use the power of HTML5, tapping into the native capabilities of Windows using standard JavaScript and HTML to deliver new kinds of experiences. These new Windows 8 apps are full-screen and touch-optimized, and they easily integrate with the capabilities of the new Windows user interface. There’s much more to the platform, capabilities and tools than we showed today.
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2011/jun11/06-01corporatenews.aspx

If you are actually clever, you just might notice that html and javascript can leverage native functionality and are the tools of choice in Windows 8.
So, please before asking stup!d questions, actually do some fact finding.

*Says there’s no quarrel between them…as Fani-Kayode recants, begs Obasanjo

BY BEN AGANDE & DANIEL ETEGHE

ABUJA—Former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, said yesterday he would embrace ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo whenever they both meet.

This came as former Special Assistant to former President Obasanjo on Public Communications, Femi Fani-Kayode, yesterday made a volte face in his support for Babangida in the disagreement between both former leaders and tendered an unreserved apology to his former boss.

Fielding questions from newsmen at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, the former Military President said: “I will embrace him (Obasanjo) if he walks to the airport now.”

Both leaders have been engaged in a heated exchange of words as Babangida, in his 70th birthday interview in Minna, had dismissed Obasanjo’s eight-year administration as a waste, while Obasanjo hit back with a declaration that Babangida was “a fool at 70.”

The former Military President said there was no quarrel between himself and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Meanwhile, former Special Assistant to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Public Communications, Femi Fani-Kayode, has tendered an unreserved apology to his former boss, following his earlier declaration that Obasanjo was ungrateful to Babangida for getting him out of jail and making it possible for him to become President in 1999.

In a statement, Fani-Kayode said his choice of words in the statement he issued was clearly ambivalent and completely misconstrued and misunderstood by virtually all and sundry.

“At no point in time did I say that President Obasanjo was ungrateful or that he was an ingrate and neither did I ever slam or attack or seek to insult or demean him in any way. This was never my intention and given the strong relationship that I have with him, I would be the last person on earth to do such a thing.

“I did not in any way mean to inflame or widen the conflict by my comments because both men are very precious to me. That would be the last thing that I would wish to do. I simply went on a historical excursion which unfortunately appears to have upset and unsettled a number of people that I respect and that are very close to me, including a number of our traditional rulers in the South-West and some members of my family.

“This is unintended and most unfortunate because President Obasanjo is not just my President, leader and mentor but also like a father to me. I never intended to cause him any discomfort, any embarrassment or to humiliate, disparage or undermine him in any way or on any issue. And if this is perceived to have been the case in this matter, it is most regrettable and I hereby tender my unreserved apology to him.”

@Beaf: I'm with you. I agree that due to the events being witnessed in all spheres of Nigerian politics, there is little hope expressed by the average Nigerian that anything good can come out of Aso Rock. Although it is easy to forgive the pessimism about such moves, considering that when Obasanjo promised better life at the end of the tunnel called Deregulation of the downstream sector, we all thought a magic wand would be waved and we would walk up to a fuel station and purchase a litre of petrol at twenty-one naira from the pre-Abacha days. But we were disappointed.

All that notwithstanding, it is not a necessary outcome to destroy any idea that comes out of the presidency (i don't really care which party is ruling) jusyt because it sounds scary at first and because we have a bad history with tings like this. It's better to live a dream than re-live a nightmare.
True bruv. It is sometimes embarrassing to witness the purely instinctive reactions of some of us. IMHO, the govt really needs to look into ways of educating and mobilising the minds of the masses in positive ways, so that we avoid these knee-jerk reactions that would be interpreted as abject foolishness by say, a foreigner without any idea of Nigeria's rather unmentionable past.

There is absolutely nothing in the article that says the end of the fuel subsidy is near, yet some have somehow conjured up that message out of thin air. Its hard to imagine why a rational, logical being would do that; but we can only realise that the horrors of the past have imbued many minds with a total lack of faith. To make matters worse, there are many who have lost out in the scheme of things that wish to seize on the masses fears and insecurities of the population, to amplify them out of proportion and breed chaos.

The more logical ones among us must resist such and continue hammering at the truths that will lead us forward. Your words have been an illuminating island in a sea of despair.

There is a paradigm shift in computing and those who fail to tool up will be left behind. The PC is indeed dying off fast.
This is a quote from the official Windows 8 blog:

But so much has changed since Windows 95—the last time Windows was significantly overhauled—when the "desktop" metaphor was established. Today more than two out of three PCs are mobile (laptops, netbooks, notebooks, tablets, slates, convertibles, etc.). Nearly every PC is capable of wireless connectivity. Screen sizes range from under 10" to wall-sized screens and multiple HD screens. Storage has jumped from megabytes to terabytes and has moved up to the cloud. The appearance of touch-screen mobile phones with the rich capabilities they bring, have together changed the way we all view computing. Most of all, computing is much more focused on applications and on people than on the operating system itself or the data. These changes in the landscape motivate the most significant changes to Windows, from the chips to the experience.

You guys are just getting unnecessarily paranoid about the fuel subsidy thing. Read the article before professing doomsday. Fact: She said it is a good thing to remove the subsidy on fuel; Fact: she acknowledges that the poor will be worst hit. But what she didnt say is that they would remove it today, tomorrow, next year or even ten years. She said when the time is right, what this means objectively is that they will find a means of easing the effect of the removal (probably by building more refinaries or increasing production from the existing ones to drop the cost of importation) before considering the removal.

When strategists speak, politicians should not interprete. If you guys are politicians then you have no business interpreting the comments of a strategist because all options are considered before decisions are made and all consequences are considered before pronouncements (such as the one Dr. Ngozi made) are made.

Get your facts right and your brains straight before turning an intellectual analysis of Nigeria's economic problem become a tool for political bickering!!!
Nigerians have been so battered by past governments that they have become instinctive sceptics, its hard to blame the man in the street for that attitude. However, in moderate doses, scepticism is a healthy thing, but it should not be overdone to the extent that we end up defeating ourselves. Some of us don't even bother reading articles any more before screaming our heads off at imaginary enemies and dragons, which is a total shame really.

It is a feat of confidence and self-belief hitherto lacking in the country.

Both satellites are contain advanced technologies that can even be used to recognise and watch car sized objects on the ground. ShipIt:
Doesn't anyone see a problem with this? The economy is not being improved, diversified, or strengthened for sustainable growth. Instead it is just the SAME major players increasing their piece of the SAME pie by making it bigger. More fertilizer, beer, and hotels (Is that what the Nigerian economy really needs?). Nija has been acting like a one trick pony for so long that this s*** is just getting old. For Godsake Dangote group alone is investing 900billion out of 1.5trillion. As if that company needs to own anything else. So what exactly is the point of the other 165 firms, to fill up the paper abi?

P.S: For those of you who are going to use this as an opportunity to insult me or put forth arguments with your false optimism by mentioning how things are improving and so on and so forth, just go outside and take a look around you. Forget the statistics and headlines that are fed to the masses by influential people who have something to gain by making people believe that they are working in the "Best interest of Nigeria". Forget the grandiose plans that never come to fruition. Just walk a mile in any direction and OBSERVE what is really going on.
The N1.52tn is just the existing private sectors investment.

According to Nigeria’s Vision 2020 document, the country needs to invest N34tn in growth areas in the next four years. Of this, the Federal Government will account for N10tn; states, N9tn; and the private sector (both local and international), N15tn.
Hopefully, the N10tn and N9tn that the FG and states collectively chip in over the next four years should go a long way to boost new players, spread the wealth and diversify the economy.

The amounts discussed in the article do not include the staggering investments to diversify our economy from crude oil to gas (gas revolution). Already Delta has got a $16billion investment to build the biggest industrial park in Africa at Koko. $16billion is about 60% of the 2011 budget; its no small beans. Bayelsa and Lagos are also getting similar investments to varying degrees (they just haven't yet kicked off like Delta). So, its all looking good so far; lets keep praying it stays that way. Big things are coming.

Our judiciary needs to be cleansed off all remnants of the cabal. They cannot continue to derail the justice system in the country.

A curious question; have we really had a Chief Justice and a President of the Appeal Court, or are they both illegal usurpers sworn in by the same criminals that flew in Yar Adua in the dead of night? If that is the case, they must both be dismissed.

Katsina-Alu, Salami – As It Was In The Beginning…
On August 24, 2011 · In Editorial ,

A judicial officer shall not be removed from his office or appointment before his age of retirement except in the following circumstances – 1 (a) in the case of – (i) Chief Justice of Nigeria, President of the Court of Appeal, by the President acting on an address supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate. – Section 292 of the 1999 Constitution

JUSTICES Aloysius Katsina-Alu and Isa Ayo Salami are ending their careers as top justices the same way as they started – controversially.

When out-going Chief Justice of Nigeria Idris Legbo Kutigi swore them in on 30 December 2009, there were concerns that the Constitution might have been violated. We are probably reaping the consequences of that ceremony that cast a blur on their tenure in the beginning.

Did we have two Chief Justices of Nigeria on 30 December since Kutigi still had a day left in his tenure and did not resign?  Was Kutigi qualified to swear in Katsina-Alu as the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Salami as the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeal when there was a healthy Vice President? These meanderings were at the instance of those propping up the powers of an ailing President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and refusing then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to stand in for the President.

Debates about the legality of the event continued. We had warned then that the situation was unfortunate. Anyone who wanted to contest the issues in court could end up with either Justices Katsina-Alu or Salami presiding over the case or appointing the judges, if the matter got to appeal.

We are back to the same situation today. We have several times told the two dueling judicial officers to resign, to save some respect for the judiciary, which they have so ably served. This option could have created better room, if they wanted to pursue their grievances in court. They refused. Katsina-Alu is due for retirement on 28 August, but that would not be the end of the matter as the National Judicial Council, NJC, is a party to the case that Salami filed over his relationship with Katsina-Alu and the NJC, which last week suspended Salami indefinitely.

President Jonathan added to the saga by asking Salami to step aside from office, claiming to act on the provisions of Section 292 (1) of the Constitution which state, aside from “A judicial officer shall not be removed from his office or appointment before his age of retirement except in – (a) in the case of – (i) Chief Justice of Nigeria, President of the Court of Appeal, by the President acting on an address supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate.”

Which aspect of Section 292 did the President use to ask Salami to step aside from office? When did the President address the Senate? When were the votes cast? This constitutional provision is to protect the independence of the judiciary, which the President has abridged through his intervention, which is not only belated but seemingly biased.

In some of the most disturbing judicial incidents, before Salami’s removal, he could not serve court papers on the NJC. When ordinary litigants run into difficulties in serving court papers, judges would normally upbraid the other partner for obstructing justice.

Precedents are important. When judicial officers treat judicial processes with such scant interest, what message are they passing to people? What reason would the NJC adduce for refusing to be served? Equally disturbing is the President’s intervention, appropriating powers the Constitution did not award him.

The NJC is hounding Salami for allegedly lying against Katsina-Alu. It wanted Salami to apologise to Katsina-Alu. Why should the NJC reduce a possible criminal offence to a personal matter? If Salami lied against Katsina-Alu – considering that the allegations were made under oath, in papers filed in court – is the punishment for perjury an apology to Katsina-Alu? Why did the NJC not charge Salami with perjury, to deter those who swear false affidavits?

Salacious details of how the judiciary dispenses justice may entertain the public, yet this case denudes the judiciary, coming from its top members. It also shows the NJC, in its current composition, is in strictures to discipline judges. It is worsened by the President’s interference.

We support independence of the judiciary but that independence comes with clear understanding of responsibility of the judiciary, usually to the public, but more demandingly to itself. Both strands of responsibility are lacking in this case and that is the real shame. The answer does not lie in the President compounding the issues by abusing Section 292 as he has clearly done. He cannot make appointment to a position that is not vacant.

The party also accused Aregbesola of not yielding to the demands of workers of tertiary institutions in the state and that efforts by the institutions’ unions to meet the governor to table their grievance for resolution had been rebuffed.

I agree with the OP. The PC era is coming to an end.
We are going to witness a fairly rapid transition to various devices, like phones and tablets; things that are more portable and more dumbed down to make them user friendly.

Desktops are slowly becoming a no-no in the World of computing. Already, there are several phones that pack the processing power of lower end computers; that trend is only set to accelerate in the next few years. If Mr and Mrs average can carry all the processing power they require in a cheap device in their pockets, why would they want a hulk of a PC? And why would they want to lay out extra cash? All they want is a device that can take pictures, send emails, connect to facebook, display videos and maybe act as a remote control.

A good pointer to the future is the direction OS manufacturers (led by Microsoft) have taken for the future. The upcoming Windows 8 is not based on the PC as previous Windows incarnations were; it is instead based on touch-screen portable devices (mainly on the tablet).
With Windows 8, everything you learnt about programming is going to be thrown out the window. Its a brave new World out there.
