Eziachi: Like I said, I would rather concentrate on the issue of the thread rather than the age of a faceless name on the internet. Meaningless to me and a waste of my time.
People like me and Prof Aryeteey are no longer comfortable with African mediocre rulers, no matter where ruler comes from.
Here in the West, we are seen as Africans first before anything else. So what this idiotic rulers do or do not do affect all of us, hence we are proud of Mandela, because his name gives us a measure of respect and integrity, irrespective of his country.
Do you think your beloved fool, Ayittey values Mandela? Lol!
He is on record as having dissuaded Mandela for running for SA Presidency, calling Mandela lazy; a person who led SA to put black people in power and become corrupt! Ayittey is an old man who goes around telling lies on the internet. You are really just like Ayittey. grin

Dude, those of us who have known Ayittey over the years, know him to repeatedly portray himself as a black hater, white lover; a man deficient in judgment, sense and understanding.
I am not surprised that you admire him.

Eziachi: This thread is not about anybody's age and if I am desperately seeking respect, I knew where to go to find one. So, your respect or lack of it, absolutely is non issue for me and means nothing to me.
Concentrate on the thread issue, air your opinion as everybody else, I don't have to like or hate it. It your right.
And don't patronise me with your unsolicited hypocritical respect.
Age is meant to breed wisdom, not derision and contempt.
I hope one day, wisdom will mean something to you, so you don't end up a dried out noise maker like Ayittey.

ojesymsym: Under Abacha at least, we were under UN sanction, price of crude was somewhere around $19, but the guy with all his sins kept the economy stable. U didnot have people die as a result of bomb blast every sunday. However, IBB and Abach were bad president, so if someone says the previous 2 worst presidents were better than ur mentor, I can only imagine how bad he must really be.
If you had witnessed Abacha's regime, your post above would have come across as exaspiratingly daft. It is like proclaiming Hitler was a great leader.
In Hitlers case, he at least got the German economy moving.

Abacha deliberately ran down NNPC (with Buhari) and made the oil subsidy a way of life, primarily as a means to enrich himself. He actually used FG money to build a private refinery in Ivory Coast, so that he and his cronies alone could import fuel. Ivory Coast was developed at the expense of Nigeria to suit Abacha's pocket. There were also two exchange rates, one for Abacha and his friends and the other for the rest Nigerians. So the oil market being the only forex earner was also used to run another corrupt market for forex trading - it was during Abacha's time that "mallams" trading dollars at airports became a prevalent feature.
At the time of Abacha's death, the Naira was one tenth the value at which he met it.

Abacha killed Saro Wiwa, jailed and killed Abiola, charged Wole Soyinka with treason; sgt. Rogers and Major Hamza Almustapha hit squads assasinated all who dared speak including Mrs Kudirat Abiola, Alex Ibru was also the victim of a failed assasination. Press quipment was vandalised and Newspaper houses were routinely burnt and reporters murdered; of note are Concord, the Guardian and the BBC transmitter at Isolo. In the meantime, Lt-Col Okuntimo was running around the Niger Delta, burning down villages and carrying out mass excecutions.
Needless to say, in Abacha's time Seun would not have been able to visit Nigeria for fear of "disappearing."

Nigeria was a pariah state under Abacha with UN sanctions applied and we were suspended from the Commonwealth. We were roundly condemned by the United Nations, Earthlife Africa, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, Amnesty International etc.

What I have written is a mere summary.

Only fools praise the dead demon called Abacha.

londoner: Actually, if you have a look at his plans for agriculture (some of what FG is putting in place) railways etc you would know he is terrible at explaining what his administration is actually doing.

With the railways etc........Ayittey unjustly went on about how many Nigerians are employed etc......the man obviously has not taken the time to look at the sites/work in progress available on the net. The pics I have seen clearly show a Nigerian workforce and not just Chinese. By the way, the same Chinese that the Ghanaian government have a contract with to build their railways...lol
The bolded is GEJ's only fault as a leader.

Nigerians have a penchant for shouting and acting foolish. I say this without apology as a Nigerian myself, because I really wonder at people who are in a competition to shoot down the first President of the country to have the populace in mind. The rate at which we are going, we are headed for war of a severity that will make boko haram pale into insignificance.

Lets be honest, this Ayittey nonsense is a simple reflection of the ugly politics in Nigeria; in more normal countries, the people would have unified to fight the foreigner, instead like dullards, some see his words as political weaponry they can freely use. I can foresee a situation in which the core-North and SW alienate themselves to an extent that the division becomes real and face potential heavy defeat on the warfront. There is no need for this bitter politics, we are entering fearful times.

This is quite a foolish answer.
How come Nigeria is so underdeveloped then? How come GEJ inherited 10 million almajiri's from previous govts? How come the groundnut pyramids vanished? How come cocao, rubber, oil palm etc disappeared? How come Nigeria has 167 million people, all dependent on oil from the Niger Delta?

There are a thousand and one other questions.

omar22: All ready signed an extension
Yeah, he got a whopping 3 years. Quite a few people questioned it at the beginning of the season, its really strange how McLaren have a pairing of an old driver with a young one, yet extend the old guys contract for 3 years while the younger one has his running out.

Much as I can't stand Red Bull's Horner, I'll welcome him to McLaren with open arms to takeover from Whitmarsh who is as lost as Jenson. Red Bull has exactly the same old/young guy issue; in their case, they have Vettel on a long term contract (2009 - 2011, extended till 2014), while old guy Webber is on a one year rolling contract. That way, they can look to form a nucleus around the younger asset, while fishing around for an even younger dude to pair Vettel in later years. Thats just common sense... But its silly season at McLaren.

Bruv, I believe McLaren did not turn up in Valencia with any upgrades because they were very busily engaged in the tomfoolery of reading all of Lewis data to Jenson, instead of developing their car and sacking the non-performing blighter. On the internet, Jenson is slowly gaining the tag of "special need" and "no grip!" How can that happen to a McLaren driver? angry angry angry

I've been a stunch McLaren fan from the time of Mika Hakinen and have loved all their drivers; Coulthard, Montoya, Kimi, Heikki Kovalainen, Alonso (when the going was good)... Lewis is just such a huge bonus.
As for Jenson, I've always found it difficult to understand why McLaren even imagined signing him. The guy is simply lucky to be a WDC, a monkey would have won the championship in his Brawn car, its dominance was far greater than last years Red Bulls.

What is happening at McLaren today is the manifestation of piss-poor management. I don't know what Martin Whitmarsh thinks or if he even has the IQ to think. Everything under him just falls to pieces; imagine advising Lewis to be fearful of Pastor Maldonado next time?! Is Whitmarsh a man with any size of balls? Ridiculous! angry angry angry
I don't blame the pit crew, it is Whitmarsh. This era of open stup!dity would never have occured under Ron Denis, why he won't sack Whitmarsh, I don't know.

'It was very interesting when I went to the factory last week,' said Hamilton.
'I was with my engineer and saw all the other top engineers together on one table.
'They had all of my data out lap by lap, noting all the things I did differently to Jenson to try and understand things. So he has absolutely every detail of what I’m doing differently. So I’m sure see a difference result this weekend.'

After admitting to be 'confused and lost’ following his 16th place in Montreal, Button was sounding far more confident in Valencia.
'I am sure he is,' added Hamilton. 'There’s been a lot of work that’s gone on for his car!'

I certainly hope the stewards bare their teeth on this one, because it is only a matter of when he will cause grievious harm at the rate he is going. I believe Lewis is the 4th or 5th driver Maldonado has crashed into so far this year. Something needs to be done to rinse his head off bad manners.

I'm not religious, but I believe McLaren's management should take some advice from the Good Book:

Since June 9, when it had been loading 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day to Thursday when it was impounded, the naval team suspected that the ship might have stolen 8.5m barrels of crude oil.

It was gathered that the suspects, who had made useful confessional statements, indicted some political office holders, many fuel marketers, some officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Department of Petroleum Resources.

It was learnt that security agents had started discreet investigation of those indicted by the suspects.

The indicted officials, investigations showed, had also been put under surveillance.

The special naval team, it was learnt, was assisted by officers of the National Maritime and Administration and Safety Agency and a private security firm, Global West Vessel Specialist.

Northern crisis: Jonathan to ignore Reps’ summons
June 22, 2012 by Olalekan Adetayo

President Goodluck Jonathan will not honour the House of Representatives’ summons over the spate of violence in the northern part of the country, a top official in the presidency said on Thursday.

The official, who pleaded not to be mentioned, said the summons was not based on any point of law.

But the House said on Thursday that it had the power under Section 89 (1-a) of the 1999 Constitution, to summon “any person” over whom it had the power of appropriation, including the President.

Spokesman for the House, Zakari Mohammed, said this even as he explained that the summons to Jonathan was not intended for a confrontation with the President.

The Reps had on Tuesday passed a resolution asking the President to appear before them to explain what he was doing to tackle the insecurity in the country.

The resolution was sequel to a motion moved by a lawmaker, Yakubu Barde, a Peoples Democratic Party member, representing Kaduna on the bombing of three churches in Kaduna State on Sunday and the reprisals that followed.

Leading the debate, Barde said that poverty and crime would prevail in the country if the current insecurity situation was allowed to continue.

He urged the President to step-up the fight against insecurity in the country.

The motion was unanimously adopted by the House but no date was fixed for the President to show up before the lawmakers.

The lawmakers’ summons came a day after Jonathan travelled out to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, for a United Nations Earth Summit, leaving behind a burning country.

But the presidency official said the lawmakers did not have any right under the nation’s constitution to summon the President under such a condition since the country was not practising a parliamentary system of government.

He said under the presidential system of government which Nigeria practises, the President has an exclusive power that places him above such summons by the House of Representatives.

He said, “Nigeria is not practising a parliamentary system of government like it is obtainable in Britain where the Prime Minister is a member of the Parliament; and he is just the first among equals.

“We practise a presidential system of government which gives an executive power to the President. He cannot be summoned in such manner by the House.

“Again, a resolution of the National Assembly is an opinion that is not binding on the executive arm of government.

“It will interest you to know that the National Assembly under former President Olusegun Obasanjo passed similar resolutions summoning him like about four times.

It is on record that he did not honour any of the invitations and nothing happened. Their resolutions are mere opinion or advisory.”

As at press time, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, could not be reached for his comments on whether his boss would honour the invitation or not.

Zakari said the intention of the House was to “interface” with the President on the security problems, including the escalating bomb attacks, kidnappings and armed robberies.

He said the House was concerned that Jonathan might be facing some challenges which the intervention of the legislature could help to resolve.

He said, “The best way to address this crisis is to interface with Mr. President. That is why we said he should come along with his service chiefs.

“Are the security funds not enough? What is it that he knows, which we do not know?

“If there are frustrations, what are these frustrations? We want to know.

“The invitation is not to bring the House in conflict with Mr. President.”

“We went to the Villa and had a luncheon with Mr. President; nobody complained then.

“This invitation is a continuation of the interface; now we are asking him to come and brief us on the security situation in our land,” he added.

On the grounds of the legality of the invitation, the House spokesman argued that under Section 89 (1-a) of the 1999 Constitution, the National Assembly could summon “any person” over whom it had the power of appropriation, including the President.

He said in the 2012 budget, the legislature appropriated about N1tn for security and had the powers to summon anyone to explain how the money was utilised.

However, he clarified that the matter at hand was not about power but rather on how to find urgent solutions to the security situation.
