That is one road that doesn't make any sense.

IMHO, that building that road in the first place was a horrible mistake. The port is better served by a heavy goods rail system, roads are not up to scratch for heavy use (especially over reclaimed marshland). It was a grand error by the original planners.
Perhaps that road needs to be closed to heavy transport, while rail system dedicated to heavy haulage are planned and built. In the meantime, weight needs to be lifted off the Lagos ports, goods can also be brought in through Warri and Portharcourt and transported up the Niger River for central distribution; it just makes more sense and will be way cheaper.

It will take years to fix the errors of the past, and shouting wouldn't get us anywhere. Nigeria desperately needs to develope our rail systems and inland water ways as cheap routes for goods distribution.

Outside of servers, Linux has little place in a programmers life. In the home, its 100% Windows.
Even corporate networks run Windows; indirectly due to the MS Office suite requiring a Windows environment, nobody will runn a Linux enviroment and install Office for users with a cut and nail arrangement. Linux is mainly for PHP servers.

Is it that i don't have sql server installed? But i checked my installed programs and microsoft sql server 2008 is there. I tried to repair it but it could not as a file was missing. What's happenin because i'm new into programmin and i wish to go into .NET. Should i download another one and which site? Does it mean i don't have the server yet? Pls bear with my questions. I don't know much about it. I thank God i have you guys here for help. Thanks for contributing anything.
Your problem is that you do not know how to connect to Sql Server. In order to solve your problem, you need to post the full error message.
Before then, a little test you can do is create a new file with a ".udl" extension. Double click on it, set the properties and see if it connects to your database. If it does, open it in notepad, copy the connection string (without the provider) and use it in your code.

The most irritating thing about the average Nigerian is their penchant to start screaming before thinking. In civilised societies people engage in discussion, not slugging, name calling and mud-slinging. I am yet to see any so called opponent of the the 6 year term proposal with an argument that addresses any of the issues the proposal aims to solve. All we have is Atiku style ranting.

How is Nigeria going to develop with the way we approach everything brainlessly and with maximum venom like mad people? It is really discouraging.

It was necessary to consult and invoke forces for the release of broda Aregbesola. After Osun people took his case to higher dimensions by killing 7 white chickens, 7 goats, seven cows at okeeshududu forest, the megalomaniac of Osun's eyes opened!

I really pity anybody from Osun state, they are in for a ride as wild as the mad looking hair on Aregbesola's chin. How did they vote in such a clown?
The man has seen fit to make several grandiose and abandone his state while touring Earths four winds.

You gats to hail! cool
Here is a man single handedly lifting the Nigerian 'hidiot' scale to impressive heights. He was going to massively sell yams to Lagos and bring farming tools back on the return journey; the goal? To industrialise Oshun by building their very own version of Oke-Arin market. Thats true visioneering!
Not stopping there, Aregbesola set up camp in Lagos, supervising Fashola and his choice of commissioners. All the while making vaporous speeches that would have made customers of Yaba-left quake with jealousy; bereft of the weighty strain a cabinet would have placed on his "agile" mind and no doubt with boko haram his leading light, Aregbesola set up the very first sharia court in Southern Nigeria.

Aregbesola sends commissioner-nominees’ list to Assembly
Friday, 29 July 2011

AFTER eight months in the saddle as the Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, has forwarded names of those who will constitute his cabinet to the state House of Assembly.

This was confirmed on Thursday by the state House of Assembly.

The House, in a statement signed by the press secretary to the speaker, Mr Goke Butika, said it had received the list of 14 commissioner-nominees from Aregbesola.

Among those that made the list were the son of the slain Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Muyiwa Ige; Mr Wale Afolabi; Mr Sunday Akere; Mr Bashiru Ajibola; Mr Jayeoba Alagbada; Professor (Mrs) Olubukola Olawoye; Mrs Mofolake Adetoun Adegboyega; Ms Mobolaji Akande; Mr Richards Adedoyin; Mr Kola Balogun; Dr Wale Bolorunduro; Mr Kolapo Alimi; Honourable Sikiru Adetona Ayedun and Dr (Mrs) Temitope Ilori.

The governor also sought the approval of appointment of special advisers from the House.

Anyway,  moving on,

Thank you for posting that part of the constitution, it actually shows how silly the provision is.

Now, why should the Senate President and the Speaker of the House be involved in such a body? On the surface, it might look like a decent association fostering political unity and all that good "pie in the sky" stuff, but to me it is dangerous for our democracy, redundant and unnecessary at the same time.

The House of Assembly should be an oversight body, if there is any objection or assent needed to and for an executive decision or program it should be sought and granted at the House,

There is no reason why we should co-opt the Senate and House leader into a Padi Padi body with the Executive and former rulers, who wrote that nonsense sef? I suspect IBB and OBJ   undecided

It discourages accountable oversight.

It encourages close-minded group-think politicking and policies.

It stifles robust disagreement.

It discourages the expression and propagation of different opinion and ideologies.

Look at some of the functions and responsibilities outlined in the constitution, a lot of them can be politicized and decided based on ideology, cultural worldview and other differences.

What if the president is of a different party and ideology from the Senate leadership? Very possible.

Or let's say the result of a Census has been politicized or manipulated, who does the oversight and where? At the Council meeting, at the Senate?

Or maybe there's a particular public disorder and it's Maintanance is politically charged and based on ideological differences? Which side will prevail? and who will make the decision?

We already have a Senate, House and the Judiciary, there is no need for anyone to form another jeun jeun, chop-I-chop, na we dey dia, ranke-dede, bigmanism inspired Council.

The Council of State is dum/b. It should be scrapped and removed by an amendment.
Not only are the leaders of the Senate and House of Rep involved, the Council of State also "advices" on:

(i) national population census and compilation, publication and keeping of records and other information concerning the same;

(ii) prerogative of mercy;

(iii) award of national honours;

(iv) the Independent National Electoral Commission (including the appointment of members of that Commission);

(v) the National Judicial Council (including the appointment of the members, other than ex-officio members of that Council); and

(vi) the National Population Commission (including the appointment of members of that Commission);

PapaBrowne:
I think the Council of State is fine! I see it as a ceremonial body that just appends signatures to decisions that have already been taken. They have no real powers so thats fine. Kinda like Buckingham Palace.

I noticed the real reason you have a problem with it is the fact that it is currently filled with ex generals.
These guys we all loathe so much would soon all be gone. It is very unlikely that in the next 30 years there would be any Ex General left in the council of state.
Institutions exist for posterity. They are supposed to outlive a generation. The simple fact that the current occupants- IBB, OBJ, BUHARI et al are not exactly our heroes doesn't necessarily mean it should be scrapped!

As per SSS, the institution itself is a failure like virtually every other Government institution. It should not be scrapped but revamped. If the SSS was  living up to its expectations, it would have infiltrated the camps of Boko Haram and all the other bomb groups in the country. But I'm sure they would rather spend their time humping on some roadside CSW than do what they are trained to do.

As an aside, the US, which prides itself as a beacon of freedom has a secret service that literally spies on its citizens. So nothing wrong with Nigeria having one too!
Yes, the ex-generals are part of the reason for bitterness with the body, but there is a more fundamental reason why it should be binned. It must be dumped to preseve the belief by the masses that good issues out of that loftiest of offices for their benefit.

In any successful democracy, reverence for the purity of the highest office is the most powerful tool for engineering patriotism among the masses. As soon as that office is tainted, subconcious doubts and misgivings begin to arise.
Why would a man (Obj) who attempted to subvert the Nigerian constitution by seeking a 3rd term be honoured with a high chair by that same constitution? The same goes for men who siezed the state, held its population at gunpoint and brazenly tore up the law of the land; it is the deepest of contradictions that such men continue to drink and dine at the seat of power.

The psychological picture the Council Of State evokes is one of rewards for brigandage, an alter of invincibilty after rap'ing the people. If we wish to strengthen our democracy, the place must be cleansed, such alters must be torn down and replaced with a wholesomeness the people can believe in and identify with. Its from such little seeds that patriotism grows.
Politics › Re: Goodluck Jonathan Should Scrap The Council Of State! by Beaf: 11:20pm On May 31, 2011
The council of state is a crude means to smuggle the interests of ex-generals, coup plotters and murderers into Nigeria's "democracy." It is anti-democratic body that has no place in the modern World; it doesn't matter who gets elected, these men would still be there, in government at the highest level.

We all tend to agree on the obnoxiousness of the likes of IBB, Buhari and Abacha (all coup plotters). So why write a body that caters for such people into our constitution?
We also complain about the recycling of the same old faces, yet our constitution guarantees that past cancerous deadwood remains in the system, teleguiding and frustrating more youthful leaders.

We have largely defeated the cabal, so the next logical step is to completely uproot the Council of State to ensure that the cabal does not regroup after GEJ. It is well known that IBB (and to a lesser extent Buhari) is deeply rooted in the cabal. How can a country progress with the mafia perpetually pulling the strings of power?

As for the SSS, I think its fine. Every country needs a secret service.

N1Obn scam: Bankole shuns EFCC invitation .
Tuesday, 31 May 2011 19:55 ISAAC AREGBESOLA, ABUJA

Dimeji Bankole, the embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, failed to honour the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) invitation over allegations that he diverted funds meant for the National Assembly for his personal use.

Bankole was expected to face a team of investigators from the EFCC over his alleged involvement in the N10billion unauthorised loan and alleged and N2.3billion scam that had rocked the House during his tenure.

Tuesday was the second time in one week that Bankole would shun the invitation of the EFCC to appear before the agency over the allegations against him which have kept the nation glued riveted.

Last week, Bankole pleaded with the EFCC to fix a new date for his interrogation. He claimed that he was tied down with "Inauguration activities".

It was however reliably gathered that the anti-graft agency may be forced to move against the outgoing speaker when his tenure expires on June 6.

It would be recalled that the Speaker had last Thursday failed to appear before the commission’s operatives investigating the matter, citing his involvement in the swearing-in ceremonies of President Goodluck Jonathan as an excuse

EFCC may declare fleeing ex-govs wanted •May detain Bankole today
Written by Idowu Samuel and Lanre Adewole Tuesday, 31 May 2011

NIGERIAN Truibune has been reliably informed that some former state governors who are reportedly on the run from corruption probe might be declared wanted this week by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The whereabouts of three of them has been a subject of intense debate in the last 48 hours.

They were absent from the inauguration of their successors-in-office, with one of them reportedly handing over before the inauguration day.

Meanwhile, a source in the EFCC told the Nigerian Tribune that the embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Dimeji Bankole, might be detained over the alleged N10 billion scam rocking the chamber’s leadership as he prepares to appear before the commission today.

He begged the commission, last week, to fix a new interrogation date for him, with the commission fixing 11.00 a.m. today for his apperance for questioning.

It was gathered that his travel documents would be impounded if he would be released on administrative bail.

The phone of the spokesman of the EFCC, Mr Femi Babafemi, was switched off when the Nigerian Tribune tried to reach him to ascertain if the arrangement for Bankole’s appearance was still as planned.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), is also probing him on the same issue, based on a petition brought against him by SERAP.

Spokesperson of the commission, Mr Folu Olamiti, confirmed that the petition was receiving attention.

This same call was also raised by the out-going chairman of the HOR committee on rules and buisness -Hon ita enang on the floor of the house as the bill was been debated.

If not for the stupidity of PDP, why should  important bills such as PIB, FOI, etc take more than six to eight months to be pass into law? Why should IOC be allowed too much room to influence the bill the way they have done? Yes thier inputs are required to frame the bill but it should only be seen as suggestions and not what the bill should be!

If you think IOC gaining much of the $25bn of tax payer's money is not slavery then there something wrong somewhere.

My earlier submission that whatever the content of the PIB is for now should passed into law is simply based on the premise that the incoming NASS with vibrant opposition will be in a better position to restructure the act to favour nigerians compared to the shambolic work and injustice the out-going rogue PDP legislators have done to the present PIB bill.

Again why rejoice when you have not had the chance to see and peruse for yourself the version of the FOI as signed into law? Same happened to labour after the new minimum wage act was signed into law only for them to start crying foul that the version signed into law was different from the one they had; with several amendments that appear to give the state governors loop holes in not paying the 18,000naira minimum wage! and lo, Bauchi state government has taken advantage of one of those loop holes to offer the civil servants in the state a miserly 11,500naira minimum wage.

“President Jonathan had, during the last Presidential debate, made a pubic commitment to sign the FoI bill into law once presented to him by the National Assembly as a personal commitment to openness, transparency, accountability and good governance. President Jonathan has really started well with this sign-post for good governance.”

“By signing the FoI bill into law, the President has more than anyone else empowered the citizens to participate in the governance of their own affairs. The people can now legitimately seek public information, corroborate their facts and make useful suggestions towards achieving greater good for the majority. With access to information, citizens can fight corruption and closet government and confront the few who misappropriate our resources to themselves alone”

“For the media, the signing of the FoI law has expanded the frontiers of press freedom for Africa’s most vibrant press. No more will it be permitted for the journalists to hurry to press with half truth and misinformation when they can officially verify their facts.”

“While the NGE congratulates every Nigerian for this all important citizen’s law and commend the out-going National Assembly for freeing the democratic space for citizens’ involvement in our democratic adventure, we call on everyone to use the law, responsibly.”
