truly:This account is totally wrong. Odili was in a power struggle with EK Clark for control of the ND (employing his own private militia's against MEND)and he lost out big time, hence GEJ's ascendance. Odili never withdrew, he lost a gruelling battle. I guess that totally kills off your argument. |
They both fall under breakdown of law and order which the police cannot handle. It was not until soldiers were deployed to tackle the menace of militants that the problem in the Niger delta region reduced. The case of Aba is a sign of a failed state and that is what makes it different from any kidnapping in another state.
That is false. It was the amnesty first and then the emergence of GEJ that calmed nerves; which only points to the fact that throwing the army into situations that require either negotiations or simple policing does not work. It is best to apply well thought out solutions, rather than our usual knee jerk reaction of sending in the army. The army can be part of a combined solution, but not the solution. |
I feel a lot of pity for the people of Jigawa. I can't for the life of me, understand why in this day and age, the controls of our dams are not computerised. How can the release of such a large volume of excess water be done by guess work? Now that it has caused the flooding of half a state, losses of more than 4billion and human lives; lets wait and see how it is dealt with. Nigeria needs to begin taking industrilisation seriously. It is the only way to avert disasters caused by foolishness. |
Why is it that mods don't take public action against those that make death threats or threats to harm other NLers, as in this post? https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-521407.64.html#msg6839044 |
mikeansy:Thanks for the beautiful input. I must confess, I had not looked at it from the angle of the whole country combined with the capabilities of the Police and other security agencies. To his benefit, Jonathan okayed the fast tracking of a crack squad a couple of months or so ago, specifically to target kidnappers. But your analysis is spot on. In the meantime, while we wait for the training of the squad to conclude, we need to think out of the box. If the governor is the mastermind, then his reasons must be discovered and any plans he has for a second term must be truncated (even if it means that PDP ends up with no candidate). The two gang leaders, Osisikakwu and Stone must be apprehended or killed. Heavily armed soldiers need to patrol the outskirts and man roadblocks on all routes out of major towns. Police (or SSS) must begin mobile phone surveillance and interception. Marked notes should be used in all ransome payments, so that routes through the markets and financial system can be traced back to the kidnappers. . . My twopence. |
damas11111:Your whole position is wrong. First of all I hope your typing of the words, "some minor tribes in our country," was done in error, because no ethnic group is minor and the Nigerian constitution says all are equal. Goodluck Jonathan is not President today due to zoning, that is one of the greatest untruths floating around the rumour mill. He is President, only because Yar Adua died. The concept of zoning bandied around by some of our shameless politicians is simply a rotation of power amongst the most powerful, which everyone knows does not include minority ethnicities. Zoning makes ethnic minority candidates into doormats and laughingstocks; ask Pat Utomi why he has never gained traction, ask the same of Gamaliel Onosode (you will not find better candidates anywhere). Zoning as brought up by the present crop of politicians, is simply a means to consolidate their grip on the means to steal Nigeria blind. |
What interests me is the question of why the "zoning" we hear about from the core North (who have threatened the nation with brimstone and fire) is so different from anything that has been seen in practise and from Jonathans explanation. Are zonings proponents merely being really primitively tribalistic? Is it mere coincidence that Yar Adua was Fulani, therefore Fulani's see zoning as meaning, "from one Fulani to the other?" IBB is half Fulani, Saraki is Fulani, Gusau is Fulani, Atiku is Fulani. . . Something smells really funny. |
9ijaMan:And the last of the small minded trinity announces his dim-witted presence. oyb the oil bunkerer, playmode who is evidently into 419 (check out his fake website) and yourself, the lowlife thug. Sad lot. You people don't fail to kill off important topics with your foolishness. @topic President Jonathan orders IG TO Rescue Abducted Children |
calyx:Ok o! Henter dia an take pishure na! ![]() |
playmode: As usual nothing intelligent or worthwhile comes out of your mouth. Did you see anywhere in my post where i insulted youSwindlers and other loud and empty people like yourself always find ways to lie. You're only proving further that you are a fool and your brain probably fell out your ear, cos its got to be that tiny. What part of your words below don't seem deeply abusive to you? playmode: You explanation is ridiculous at best. The reality is that GEJ does not care. Are you telling me if jonathief's wife was kidnapped today , GEJ will not call a state of emergency in Aba and send troops over? Beaf please put aside your unrelenting support for GEJ for a second and think like a patriotic Nigeria. We all know your judgement has been clouded since your tribesman became president. If one of your beloved relatives was one of the people kidnapped or killed will you be singing the same tune.I stress again, that I am neither of the same ethnicity as Jonathan, nor am I from his state. If you can't see what is insulting in your words, you are truly lost and gutter bred. |
oyb:We all know you hate GEJ, because you are an oil bunkerer who is out of job because, he has cleaned out the petroleum sector and so your "business" is now finished. But right now, we need to feel for the souls, lost in all the tragedies ravaging Abia state. This isn't the time for pettiness. @topic I believe that since it is known that the culprits are Osisikankwu and Stone, crack squads need to be sent in to take both men out (perhaps, this is already being done). After both men are taken out, governor Orji needs to be impeached to face EFCC and the full wrath of the law; I don't doubt for a minute that he is involved in the kidnapping. |
playmode:You come across like a fool all the time. GEJ is not from the same ethnicity as mine, we arent even from the same state.. You are free to say any other thing in your fcked up head, but do not ever include me in your cheap shot tribalistic rants. And for the record, I support a state of emergency in Abia. Its just that clods like you lack the ability to reason beyond the pedestrian. I have only mentioned the practical difficulties that need to be surmounted. Where do they find !diots like you? Are you real? |
oyb:How do you explain your position that Alams is Jonathans campaign manager when by your own article, he can't even get to see Jonathan? The self-styled Governor General of Ijaw Nation, sources hinted, spends most of his week days in Abuja from where he has been seeking audience with President Jonathan with hopes of securing a presidential pardon. You are just a plain old liar, who is either naturally stup!d or one who permanently suffers brain cramps. ![]() |
@oyb I thought fckers like you were lying just a couple of months ago that alams was GEJ's campaign manager? How does it feel when you post an article today saying; The self-styled Governor General of Ijaw Nation, sources hinted, spends most of his week days in Abuja from where he has been seeking audience with President Jonathan with hopes of securing a presidential pardon.Dude, your brain is full of wax. |
The real problem with declaring a state of emergency in Abia is that heavy concentrations of troops are needed in Northern Nigeria where there have been very open, serious and credible threats of throwing the country into turmoil, unimaginable bloodshed and chaos. Any largescale troop movements outside the North will likely be counter productive for the whole country at this time. It is a delicate situation. The way I see out of this, is impeaching Orji and dismantling the kidnapping cartels. Orji, the ritualist is definitely the mastermind behind Abia's problems. I believe he will be one of the politicians that EFCC will stop from contesting in PDP's new screening system. |
bayleaf:Orji has sold the state to the devil. namdo:It wouldn't surprise me is Orji is actually using the whole of Abia as a source of sacrificial material for his primitive rituals. |
Becomerich will be jealous of this one! ![]() Behold Aso Rock; https://img156.imageshack.us/img156/4080/asorockpresidentialvillom0.jpg |
Saraki said it was unfortunate for the president to make the claim on Kwara, which he described as factually incorrect. It is really hard to imagine that the above emanated from the brain of man who wants to be president. How shallow can people get? His self contradicting argument can be summarised as; "in Kwara, a fair playing field means no zoning, indeed zoning was simply declared dead by the state chairman; but at the national level, the very same fair playing field means zoning and no word from anybody can change that." The man just displayed a brain size that is less than 1% of Jonathans. |
@topic It is not an easy process to declare a state of emergency and its a process strewn with traps and potholes. I election season, it might be really delicate to declare a state of emergency, especially with the current set of desperate candidates that have threatened to throw the country into turmoil. |
Uclloyd28:Abeg, don't call Nigeria 9Town, it is as insulting as that taxi driver crashing into the President. @topic To all those misguided souls asking if the man would have suffered this sort of treatment with Obama's convoy; all I can say is, pick a visa to the US and test your theory. . . And watch with amazement how you vanish from the face of Earth without trace (oh yes, some secret services are that efficient ). A trial will convince you. |
I thought Sahara Fake Reporters said it was 23 (even as fake as they are), now with you, it has grown to 50! I fully expect it to have grown to a 100 by Friday. Useless beer palour news manufacturers, they can't get GEJ with anything, so they start lying shamelessly. Shame. E da ke rumours! |

Interesting! No wonder some talk of a "gentlemans agreement!" Because PDP zoning by Jonathans description, is exactly the same as the constitutional Federal Character, the President or governor would need to have already been voted in, before Federal Character kicks in. That makes a lot of sense indeed! Federal Character cannot be used to choose the President or governors, that will be absurd. I especially like this example Jonathan gave; He cited the example of Kwara State, saying that “In Kwara State, you see that Saraki is leaving, because the Nigerian constitution allows for two tenure, but, of course, the younger sister is contesting. If the party has zoned the position, definitely, somebody from that senatorial district cannot contest, except the younger sister is from a different senatorial district.QED |
PDP never zoned presidency -Jonathan •President’s claim ludicrous -Atiku Written by Idowu Samuel, Abuja Tuesday, 28 September 2010 PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan on Monday spoke on controversies over the issue of zoning, averring that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) never zoned the presidency to any part of Nigeria, contrary to claims. He made the remarks in dismissal of claims by some northern leaders that he should respect the principle of zoning as laid down by the ruling party, and which currently favours the North. Jonathan said no political party had absolute control over zoning, adding that zoning of political offices was usually done after the emergence of president and vice-president, governors and deputy governors. The president said the PDP had only been zoning elective offices it had control over after every election. Jonathan, speaking after the submission of interest and nomination forms, also dismissed the allegation that he had been using the state funds to bankroll his political programmes, saying that the accusation was baseless. He said the Nigerian electoral law frowned on such excesses. “I am a serving president. Most of my governors are facing the same accusation. The fact is that you cannot use state funds to run campaign. All over the world, we have an electoral law which stipulates how much an individual can spend at elections. “I have never used public funds to run my campaigns. At the appropriate time, I will publish the details of my campaign funds,” Jonathan said. He was accompanied to the PDP secretariat by nine governors, including Sulli-van Chime (Enugu); Ikedi Ohakim (Imo); Adebayo Alao-Akala (Oyo); Ibrahim Shema (Katsina); Segun Oni (Ekiti) and Isa Yuguda (Bauchi). Other governors in his entourage included Liyel Imoke, (Cross Rivers); Akwe Doma (Nasarawa) and Dambaba Suntai (Taraba). He was also accompanied by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; Alhaji Dalhatu Sarkin Tafida; Chief Barnabas Gemade; Chief Ahmadu Ali; Mrs Josephine Anenih; Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri; Alhaji Saidu Sambawa and Chief Tony Anenih. Jonathan made his views on zoning known, just as the PDP national chairman, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, urged him to prepare for a tough presidential contest in 2011. Nwodo hinged the anticipated tough presidential contest on the calibre of aspirants who had submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms. The chairman confirmed to President Jonathan that so far, four aspirants, including General Ibrahim Babangida, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, General Aliyu Gusau and Dr Olusola Saraki, had submitted their forms. Nwodo described the four presidential aspirants as heavyweights, a reason he said the president must brace up to square it up with them, since, according to him, the PDP had resolved to produce the next president in 2011. Addressing the media on zoning, Jonathan said the standard and nature of power rotation was established in 2002 by the PDP, recalling that zoning of elective offices was done specifically in 2007 after the emergence of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua. “In 2007, after emerging with the late President Yar’Adua, we all sat down at the Legacy House to determine zoning. “Ahmadu Ali, the then PDP national chairman; former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Tony Anenih and Chief Ojo Maduekwe were there. “Then we had gotten a president from the North, a vice-president from the South-South. Where do we place the next chairman of the party? We said it had to go to the South-East; Senate President, North-Central and we zoned all the offices,” he said. The president said the nature of zoning in PDP was further expressed with the removal of Honourable Patricia Olubunmi Etteh as Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2007 and her replacement with Dimeji Bankole from the same South-West where she hailed from. Jonathan drew similar allusion to the replacement of Prince Vincent Ogbulafor with Dr Nwodo as the PDP chairman, when the latter left the office on allegation of corruption. “The issue you asked about zoning. This is the first time I have to comment on it. I have decided to talk about it, but, at the appropriate time, you will know a little more. But, either by virtue of the PDP constitution, or in practice, the presidency of Nigeria has never been zoned to any part of the country. “If we will read that section of the constitution on issue of zoning, PDP does not zone the presidency, but PDP zones offices they have absolute control or reasonable control over. “But, before you zone those offices, the president and the vice-president would have first emerged. I am saying this because I was involved,” he said. Jonathan added that “the concept of zoning has been in the PDP from inception. We have the PDP 1999 constitution and if you ask the chairman, he will give you. This is the very first constitution and the zoning concept is there, but not expressly stated.” According to Jonahan, in 2001 constitution, Article 7(2)(c) said: “In pursuance of the principles of equity, justice and fairness, the party shall adhere to the policy of rotation and zoning of party and public elective offices and it shall be enforced by the appropriate executive committee at all levels, from councillor to presidency.” He cited the example of Kwara State, saying that “In Kwara State, you see that Saraki is leaving, because the Nigerian constitution allows for two tenure, but, of course, the younger sister is contesting. If the party has zoned the position, definitely, somebody from that senatorial district cannot contest, except the younger sister is from a different senatorial district. “If you look at the situation in Bayelsa State, you know my history. I am form Bras senatorial district. I took over to finish Alami-eyeseigha’s tenure, just like it has happened at the federal level. I was to go back and contest and the party had no objection. I even got the party ticket after the primaries. But because I was now drafted to contest the vice-presidency seat, the party set up a committee, Dr Ali is here and gave Timipreye Sylva, who is from my senatorial district. “The party would have said, no, no, it had to go back, may be to the Central senatorial district, where Alami-eyeseigha comes from. “It is when a governor, deputy governor emerge, or chairman or the vice chairman of the council emerge and, at the national level, when the president and the vice-president emerge, then you now zone other offices. And immediately that zoning is done, any replacement has to come from that zone.” He said whenever the people talking about zoning came around, they should be asked about their political interests in 2003 and 2007, especially if they were fellow aspirants like him. Meanwhile, former Vice-President Abubakar has said President Jonathan’s claim that zoning does not exist is ludicrous. The former vice president said the principle of zoning and rotation of power was the very foundation upon which the PDP was built as a party. “It is either President Jonathan is not a member of the PDP or is living in denial of the same principle of zoning, which saw his emergence as vice-president in 2007,” he said. He promised to mail a copy of the PDP constitution to the president. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/11663-pdp-never-zoned-presidency-jonathan-presidents-claim-ludicrous-atiku |
PapaBrowne:Yes of course, that will be most welcome! I'm saying thanks in advance. ![]() |
Most times I shy away from identity topics, but there is so much overlap between Igbo, Isoko and Urhobo in certain parts of Delta state that it becomes dangerous to throw labels at certain groups. There are places like Umutu where it really is borderline as to which language is being spoken. Its an area that needs some care. Their Urhobo and Isoko cousins call them Ukwuani, but their Igbo neigbours object strongly. The question is; what do they call themselves? |
At least you're honest. Others that need to confess urgently are, oyb and Gbawe. Fresh Air 2011! Goodluck Nigeria! |
Gbawe:What a sad sod. I wonder why so many politicians have the morality of the gutter. You are "vindicated" by a rumour started right here on NL? I really can't express the degree of shame I feel reading your words. Its a pity. |
PapaBrowne:Thanks a lot, all the kind words are much appreciated. We are still generating momentum and reaching out, it tough for now, but I'm sure it will begin to take off soon, especially after September 30 (Thursday / Friday), when we will be bold enough to begin stepping out and announcing our presence to the World. I pray that its well recieved and can usher in the sort of positive technological change we need. I really love the phrase "Catalytic Renaissance," it is what we have to strive toward. |
