The North does not want the man. So where is going to get the votes? If your people knew you, it would be different. But it would seem, you're just a dude with super low self esteem looking for acceptance through tribalism. Grow some mojo man! Get a babe, get laid and shut it! |

My people will never support an Ijaw man. I don't care if they say his people hail from my hometown of Arochukwu. I'll rather deal with the North to spite this fictional south-south. It is not even guranteed that Jonathan would win the south-south due to the Ibibio and Ikwerre mistrust of the Ijaw. And let us not talk about the Itsekiri who hate the Ijaws more than the Igbos or any other group. Who gives a fck about your family compound? PDP Woos Fashola With Guber Ticket . Tuesday, 31 August 2010 00:08 Kazeem Akintunde, Lagos . There are strong indications that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State may field Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola as its gubernatorial candidate if the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) fails to give him its ticket. Sources told Leadership yesterday that the PDP leaders at the national level had directed potential aspirants in its fold not to waste their money as the ticket might eventually be given to Governor Fashola.
The sources said the decision was taken after it became clear that the governor may not secure a second term ticket due to the frosty relationship between him and his political godfather, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. It was learnt that the leadership of the PDP directed its Lagos State chapter to prevail on its members not to aspire for the ticket as it would be given to Fashola if he eventually decamped to the party. Leadership learnt that it was the directive that has prevented Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro from reviving his governorship ambition. Obanikoro was the flag bearer of the party in the 2007 governorship election in the state. It was also learnt that most of the PDP members in the state are abiding by the decision of the national leadership as they saw Fashola as a big fish. The fence mending moves initiated by many ACN leaders including its national chairman, Bisi Akande to douse the tension generated by the tiff between Tinubu and Fashola, have, however, forced PDP leadership to see the need to have a plan B. The plan, it was gathered, was the recent declaration by Demola Seriki, a former minister of state for defence of his intention to seek the ticket. Other politicians who have shown interest in the office include Dr. Adedeji Aganga Williams, Dr. Ade Dosunmu, Chief Tunde Etti, Mr. Owolabi Salis and Mr. Babatunde Gbadamosi. Mr. Tunde Salau, deputy chairman of the party in the state confirmed that the party is waiting for Fashola to come onboard. "If Fashola comes in, it will be an added bonus, but we have not gone out of our way to woo him. "PDP is a solid party. With or without any single individual, we are already pulling the gear towards the 2011 general elections. We as a party will be willing to receive him if he is willing to come to our party," he said. http://www.leadershipeditors.com/ns/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=15093:pdp-woos-fashola-with-guber-ticket&catid=51:cover-stories&Itemid=101 |

The white guy is thinking (but not saying) ''well if the country's as hopeless as you say it is, what could possibly make YOU any different from the rest of 'em?''
I wonder how many Nigerians have been overlooked for sensitive, highly paid positions in their companies overseas, after they slagged off all Nigerians as thieves at the company dinner party, before their smiling bosses?

''Sir, please don't mind that useless country full of thieves and incompetents''
''Really? Well we'll have to look again at your promotion request, Mr Olanrewaju''. Poor Olanrewaju! I remember a place I worked in many years years ago as a fresh young man; my white colleagues kept wanting to abbreviate my 9ja name into something "easy for them to pronounce" (something, I've noticed only junior workers do), but I just kept telling them, "no offence, but that easy name has no meaning; all Nigerians have rich meanings and are usually given after a lot of meditation." There were others who asked for my "Christian name" as well, they got basically the same answer. Each time, we would go into all the, "Really? whats the meaning of your name then?" stuff and I would oblige them with it. We would discuss culture, differences etc. I got deep respect and made a lot of friends (and lovely babes) off that simple gesture. I also got the sort of questions you ask only those you trust like, "so why does so and so have that fake accent and act funny, when he is Nigerian like you?" . . .Without fail, it was always the loose lipped, fake i.diots they were asking about. That was how I knew that they despiced both the snitches and fake whiter than white black people. Obama grew up as Barry, then realised something was missing when he looked in the mirror, he reverted to his Kenyan name, Barack and won the US Presidency as a man who is very comfortable with his rural Kenyan, goat herding roots. . . .Nothing horribly wrong with an English name though, I'm just illustrating a point. |

I've always wondered why many Nigerians fail to grasp that simple fact. Thus instead of saying ''there's no light, no water, no education, no roads, no security'', which most whites tale LITERALLY, you need to say, ''we have frequent power outages'', or ''we have quite a lot of bad roads although many cities are starting to see investment in that area''. ''We have a hundred universities, but lecturers often go on strike for low pay'' Just TELL THE TRUTH AS IT IS. That's all.

Politics › Northern Nigeria - Killings, violence come as election looms by Beaf(op): 11:17pm On Aug 30, 2010 |
Killings, violence come as election looms By SHEHU SAULAWA (AP) – 1 hour ago BAUCHI, Nigeria — Violence targeting politicians and their aides appears to be increasing in northern Nigeria as next year's elections draw closer in Africa's most populous nation. Unknown gunmen on Saturday shot and killed a personal assistant to Bauchi state Gov. Malam Isa Yuguda, the son-in-law to the late Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua. Meanwhile, a police guard for Yuguda was shot and seriously injured. The Bauchi state government on Sunday issued a statement describing the attacks as an "ugly development" as the nation nears local and federal elections that may come as soon as January. However, the attacks mark the beginning of what could be a violent electoral cycle as the nation's highest office remains in play. In August alone, there have been five attacks on politicians in Bauchi state, a rural state in Nigeria's Muslim-majority north. Most recently, gunmen ambushed Jamilu Bauchin Bauchi, the governor's personal political assistant. Bauchin Bauchi "was attacked by the gunmen on his way to Maiduguri to purchase horses that they will ride , after the Ramadan fast," said Sanusi Mohammad, the governor's spokesman. The police guard was shot about more than half a mile (a kilometer) away from government headquarters in Bauchi on the same night, Mohammad said. On Monday, the 10-year-old son of Garba Dahiru, a political hopeful in the state, returned home after a week in captivity. The family allowed the boy outside their home so photographers could capture images of him, but declined to say whether they paid a ransom to win his release from kidnappers. Police officials declined to immediately comment. In oil-rich Nigeria, home to 150 million people, violence and vote-rigging has accompanied national and local elections. In 2007, Yar'Adua was elected in a poll widely marred by ballot box-stuffing and intimidation. President Goodluck Jonathan, the nation's elected vice president who assumed office after Yar'Adua's death in May, has promised a free and fair election next year. However, Jonathan himself has yet to say whether he'll run for the nation's highest office, leading to uncertainty. Analysts worry that if he doesn't run, militants in the oil-rich Niger Delta will launch violent protests. If the nation's ruling party nominates Jonathan, a Christian, others worry the elite in the Muslim north will foment dissent as Yar'Adua, a Muslim, should have been allowed to seek a second four-year term under an unwritten power-sharing agreement in the ruling party. Other politically motivated violence has hit central and southern Nigeria. In Abuja, police say they've arrested two men who allegedly kidnapped the organizer of a group supporting Jonathan running in the coming election. Meanwhile, a member of the Delta state House of Assembly was kidnapped on Sunday after he left church in Edo state. Associated Press Writer Bashir Adigun in Abuja, Nigeria, contributed to this report. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jc2EniksBBDQg17Udt4mraJVX6mAD9HU12900 |

Abut: So much hate dripping here, why would any one want to divide up 9ja like some piece of paper? Truth be told the Federal structure should be implemented better and by all means states should get greater shares of the resources found in their states. However in a world of collapsing borders, in a land filled with opportunities, immense human resources and a ready made market surely dividing nations is an expired solution.
The solution lies in good governance and genuine democracy. No region of Nigeria has a monopoly of corruption, bad leaders et al. The funny thing is that they are great allies when shafting us a la Mantu and OBJ while they sow the seeds of discord at night. Typical divide ad rule. You would have thought it was the british doing this to us not our people.
I look forward to a Nigeria where every one has an equal opportunity, where Agriculture flourishes and Mineral resources exploited, where the Railways work, the utilities work, trade prospers, out of the prosperity people will live in peace again and pursue happiness and self actualization. It is a dream i hope to live for and to achieve, if need be die for.
If you think a particular set of people other than the thieving elite (and the docile majority of follow follow) we have in 9ja as the problem, then that person is no better than a racist at best and a Nazi. That kind of misguided talk cost millions of lives in Rwanda. Diversity is a strength in every country and we should be no different. People please open her hearts, lets work together to make it a better place!
Good night and God bless I don't know if to call this an attempt at intellectual dishonesty or political correctness to a fault. Please tackle the topic, instead of giving us misguided "free love", hippy, braindead and utterly foolish peace lectures. Aliyu Sani (the subject of this debate) made statements that contained absolutely no love. Similarly, Kanti Bello is threathening that a section of the country will disgrace our President. Thats what we are reacting to. . . Or aren't you cabable of comprehending and reacting to that? |

Its all here https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-504105.0.html#msg6647416I have never met any foreigner that talks negatively about their country, even Somalians. So why would Nigerians talk like traitors if not for small mindedness, low self-esteem and zero morals? gadogado: You didn't even address the points i brought up. How easy or practical do you think dividing a country like Nigeria would be? If you think its as easy as "everybody go your papa land" then you're the one thats miserably mistaken. You don't know a thing about the nation-state. Nigeria is more complex and intertwined than you think. I'm not gonna bother making any more points because it seems you're a bit clueless. You need to make some Hausa friends honestly. Your bias is overwhelming and anyone can see that you lack exposure. The "hausa-fulani" are not saying its their right to rule Nigeria but that the zoning agreement agreed to by stake holders must be upheld. Jonathan knows he is a product of zoning, how can he now decide to ignore a policy that is solely responsible for him getting to the presidency in the first place? is that even ethical?
I know he thinks he's young and that if he steps down then his political career is finished since you can't vie for any other political office after having been president except if its the same president that he vies for in future. But you cant short change an entire region of a country after an agreement has been made just because of your personal ambition. An agreement is an agreement, the day you rescind on an agreement is the day you turn into a crook. Jonathan should aspire to be a statesman not a crook. Dividing Nigeria will not amount to more than "everybody go your papa land." The only people who will disagree are those who rely on others for their meal tickets. After that, if anybody can plant groundnuts, let them never forget the skill again; same would go to those who have human resouces, gold, rubber etc. If anybody thinks that they have rights to stuff that isn't in the "papa's compound," they will need to learn a new song, nobody is anybody elses slave. At least, we have come to some agreement. The Hausa-Fulani are the problem, not the "North."The Hausa-Fulani are saying it is their right to rule Nigeria; others are asking them to think again. Are they the only ones in the North? The Nigerian constitution is superior to any political party's, so please let us not talk crap, like how abandoning PDP zoning "short changes an entire region." Are citizens of the said regions, citizens of PDP or Nigeria? Why can't they go to court with their childish argument as Tanko Yakasai threatened earlier in the year, if their case is not puerile and laughable to the law. |

gadogado: You people especially beaf amaze me. You talk like you're detached from reality. Beaf, I took you for an intelligent individual until this post of yours. How hard is getting a divorce from a wife you've been married to for 20 years? especially when you're required by law to share assets as in the U.S? Now, this is only a marriage of two individuals only and it usually has to drag on in court.
Now, how hard do you think it would be to divorce/divide a country that has been together since 1914 and self ruled for 50 years. How do you go about sharing the assets? so called property of the federal government! Can you divide without a bloody war? if there is a bloody war, will it make you happy? In short, the complications involved in dividing a country are too much that no sensible leader in this day and age would want to get himself into such a mess. Its really messy business. Nigeria is like a catholic marriage, it may not be a happy one but it must stay intact. Find ways to live together instead, like making agreements and honoring them i:e. power rotation.
If you divide Nigeria on the basis of ethnic and religious sentiment, how many parts will she be divided into If you manage to say two, then pls tell me if the south is a monolithic group. What stops the Igbos from further cessation and breaking into smaller units? Look, the world is uniting, see EU but you are shouting for a break up, doesn't that seem funny to you? Its clear to me that you guys scarcely have friends who are from the north otherwise, you wouldn't have this ridiculous world view. Socialize with people from other parts of the country, let me call my yoruba friend self. Whatever you call it. A bad marriage is not worth keeping, especially when a partner is bullying. Threats of all flavours are erupting from the North at a quiet South. In my opinion, its just best to face those threads squarely. If anyone thinks God has given them power, maybe its best for them to go searching for the god that is deceiving them. If you think there is anything to be divided apart from "everybody go your papa land," then you are very sadly mistaken. If you trump card is that Igbo's and other groups will leave, why is that a bad thing? Why hold people prisoner in an unfitting relationship just to maintain power from "God" with the Hausa - Fulani? |

It is good to see once allies like the Ijaws and the Northerners go at each other's throats. A fitting end.
I rather dash the Ijaw hope of achieving the presidency another 4 years then some northerners. Northerners pick a qualified Igbo man, then it is a wrap.
The North and the Southeast will defeat any voting bloc. We did it before, we shall do it again!
And we do not have to like each other. We will act in our own interest. You are just a clown who doesn't know how elections are won in Nigeria. The law says that in order to win the presidential elections, a candidate must get a quarter of the votes in two thirds of the states in Nigeria. Where does that leave you dumb population based calculations?. . . In the bin. I've read Kanti Bello talking foolishly about population too, what a sorry set of ignorant clowns! It is states that count, not population; so Bayelsa with its 2 million people, counts equally with Lagos and its 18 million. Knock it into your thick skull. . . .And by the way, the South East will vote Jonathan (maybe, with the exception of your insignificant compound). |

gadogado: This is a democratic dispensation and a new era not a series of military juntas. Neither northerners nor southerners gained much from the juntas. 1999 was meant to be a fresh start for the Nigerian project. This is why the north which was in a position of relative advantage decided to relinquish power to the south, a gesture of renewed fraternity. If the north was truly "SELFISH" then Abdulsalam would have hung on to power and eventually handed over to a northern civilian. That would've been "selfish"
But you are avoiding the issue at hand, the "AGREEMENT" on zoning, should it be followed or do we go with breaching agreements and building mutual suspicion in our democratic 4th republic simple question. There's an agreement cast in cold print in the PDP constitution, what message are you giving if you discard of agreements half way into them? and you refuse to follow your own written down rules?? Nobody gained in the past and nobody will gain in the future from the fcked up cabal that is dragging the name "North" in the dust. If this so called "North" (meaning Hausa-Fulani) don't know where their meals are coming from, someone might need to introduce them to Chad and Niger. We are tired of their crap. What an annoying brainless fool! @topic I strongly recommend exemplary jail terms for Ugwuoha and anybody else like him. Send them to Gashua or somewhere their families will never know about. bidemi12: My friend, as you have just proven; the biggest problem with nigeria is the mentality of it's citizens. Change the peoples mentality and you change the nation. I don't know where you reside, but where i live, that "utopian society" is a daily fact of life. I have not witnessed a power outage in eight years. i am covered 100% in healthcare. someone broke into my house once and i called the police and in 5 min they were here. i voted for a black man and i am sure my vote counted: obama is president. my wife can change jobs in a drop of a dime. you see, i am talking from experience. 'nuff said. Question. Do these things you enjoy make you slag off Nigeria to every passing foreigner, as is the case with the OP? |

This is part of the Nigerian Gas Masterplan, which is a quest to ensure adequate supply of gas generate electricty in the big push to zero "Nepa don take light" by the end of next year.SEPTA's investment in our gas infrastructure will total about $1billion. Changes are coming! Here's an older article; Septa Energy to Invest $1 Billion in Domestic Gas Project Chika Amanze-Nwachuku 21 July 2010
Lagos — Federal Government's drive to reposition the domestic gas market for availability of adequate gas for power generation, has received a boost as leading gas developer, Septa Energy, embarks on a $1billion domestic gas project in Nigeria.
The Company's Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Scott Aitken, told THISDAY weekend in Akwa Ibom State that the company, a Nigerian subsidiary of Seven Energy Group has invested $420 million in the development of two main gas fields and construction of gas pipeline in the state for delivery of gas to Ibom Power Plant, an Independent Power Plant. He said the fields will produce about 400mscf per day that will be delivered to the domestic market.
According to him, the 60Km gas pipeline, will at the first phase deliver some 43.5mscfp/d of gas to the Ibom Power plant, adding that more gas will be supplied to the power plant as the project expands in the next couple of years.
Aitken said Seven Energy is focused on being a major player in the spirit of the Nigerian Gas Masterplan and that the company's investment plan on the on -going domestic gas project will hit $1 billion.
"The main focus of the company is to develop gas for the domestic market in Nigeria, which no company has been doing historically.
We have invested $420 million in developing those fields, and construction of pipeline to deliver gas to this Ikot Abass location as the first gas delivery point. We are expanding that next year, and the following year over the next two years to other hubs in Aba, Calabar and Port Harcourt.
So from this area, in the heart of Akwa Ibom, we will be able to supply 400mscf per day", he said.
He added: "At the first phase, the gas we are supplying will feed the power station and provide the average energy requirement of one million Nigerians, this is a significant start. And the expansion of this project over the next 18 months will increase that to other hubs in South East Nigeria, delivering gas to power the IPPs, thereby delivering the average energy needs of 10 million Nigerians".
Performing the ground breaking for the construction of the 60km-gas pipeline by Septa Energy at the weekend, President Goodluck Jonathan described it as disappointing, a situation whereby Nigeria's power generation still hovers around 3,000mw, declaring that the only way to move the sector forward is by opening it up to the private sector.
Jonathan regretted that successive administrations did not deem it necessary to open up the sector to the private sector, noting that if private sector were allowed to come in, by now, Nigeria would have been supplying power to the rest of West Africa and some other countries in Africa.
Septa Energy will be the first private indigenous company to supply gas to an IPP. The President lauded the project, saying it will also be a source of gas supply to ASCON's turbines that have been lying fallow due lack of gas.
SEVEN Energy, Nigeria's international gas developer has interests in the Oil Prospecting Licence (OPL 236 and Oil Mining Lease (OML 56). The company is technical partner in block OPL-236 with OandO plc where it has a discovered gas field, Ukana South, and eight other exploration prospects. In OML 56, the company is the technical partner with Chorus Energy, operating the Matsogo gas field and Igbolo oil field.
The company said its primary focus in both Nigeria and Canada is gas field development and seeks to scalable opportunities to leverage its international standard operating capability to monetise undeveloped resources. http://allafrica.com/stories/201007210082.html |

The pipeline project is part of a $420m investment in to two gas fields in Nigeria by SEPTA Energy, a subsidiary of Seven Energy Group. SGS was drafted in to test the integrity of the pipeline and each of the 5,500 welds that holds it together. An inspection team of ten experts used a robotic X-ray crawler to analyse the welds. The crawlers are remotely controlled and X-ray the inside of pipes and produce single wall, single image radiographs of the welds. SGS uses a special model which is suitable for pipelines up to 60 inches in diameter. So far 2,200 joints have been scanned, and the project is due for completion in December. http://www.constructionweekonline.com/article-9335-robot-x-ray-inspectors-in-nigerian-pipework-probe/ |

doyin13: and the irritating thing is their vitriol is uncalled for. . .
They are angry because a young driver beat their man again and again fair and square.
Why not just find a driver with some ability to support. Exactly! I got pissed off with BBC 606 forums a couple of years ago. Lucky for Lewis, a lot of support has swung very strongly his way Worldwide, otherwise, it would have been quite difficult for him to cope with the barrage coming at him. Lewis is just an easy target being black, the same fans that could take time out to paint themselves as "Lewis family" and the louts at Jerez don't express any racism toward Massa. |
