Onlytruth:A lot of politics is about personality. I am sure we will either hear from his faction tomorrow (at least a counter press release) or moves to reconcile the factions will begin. In any event, I'm sure what Ekweremadu has to say would be of major interest; lets wait to hear from him so that his reasoning can be understood, it might be unfair not to (somehow, I doubt that). |
OnlyTruth, the problem seems to be Ekweremadu. The key lies in what he wants as an individual and if it is worth the trouble. The Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, who is the highest ranking Igbo political office holder, took the lead by initiating the South-East Political Summit. Having consulted widely, he invited a frontline Nationalist and former Aviation Minister from Anambra State, Chief Mbazulike Amechi to convene the summit, but Ekweremadu appeared to have conceived a different agenda distinct from what the conveners set out.http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/08/26/as-confusion-rages-among-ndigbo/ |
Let those clowns strike till next century. Jonathan can always find a pool of trained dudes, always ready and willing in the army. Uncle Joe, fire on full ahead o! Privatise every single PHCN official jare! Afterall if they knew their jobs, the govt wouldn't be strategising on how to uproot the cancer of PHCN from 9ja. |
PHGN workers are so funny! After underperforming from time imemorial, they decide to go on strike when Jonathan has decided it is time for their arses to fry! Enemies of progress, does any Nigerian ever remember having light? Abi PHCN tink say we be winsh when no need light? Uncle Joe, na you biko! Privatise every single one of their bloody arses and let us have light for once. |
Fhemmmy:That's why we keep hearing, governors say this and governors say that. It has always been Saraki's ambition speaking, he has been misusing the presidency of the govs forum. But, now its crunchtime no smart governor wants to be caught in his nest. ferari90:Would that be governor Sherma that got locked out of Aso Rock? ![]() |
I can't understand why a grown man of 70 just cannot appreciate the fact that Nigerians hate him and the very ground he stands on. What sort of creature is so unwise at 70? I laugh in onigbongbo. |
chosen04:Dat one na true! My darling wife, chosen4, I'm on the way to Biafra in Guatemala with a whole buncha love and some wine. ![]()
|
jamace:If that is true, then the country lacks any basis to exist. The only way to give every Nigerian a true sense of belonging and a state - citizen contract, is the establishment of true federalism. Govt systems and policies should keep the country stable, instead. The army, like most of Nigeria might need better renumaration, because they deserve it, not because they stabilize the existence of the country (thats almost like saying they keep us all jailed in an unpromising marriage). |
I get you, yeah, its a dog eat dog world out there. |
Associated Press LAGOS, Nigeria—Nigeria's president announced a multibillion-dollar plan Thursday to repair and privatize the oil-rich nation's decrepit national power grid that forces people to rely on private generators to provide electricity. President Goodluck Jonathan said the nation would sell off the state-run Power Holding Company of Nigeria and workers at the state-run power company would receive "generous" severance packages. In a speech before journalists and the nation's political elite, Mr. Jonathan said the nation would rely on private companies to build new power generation plants relying on the nation's vast natural gas reserves. "We need a revolution in the power sector," Mr. Jonathan said, promising that the nation would see more power by December 2012. Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, is one of the top crude-oil suppliers to the U.S. Still, Nigeria remains beset by blackouts and problems with its aging federal power grid. The plans outlined by Mr. Jonathan's government sounded like campaign promises, with a presidential election that could be held as early as January. However, Mr. Jonathan has yet to announce whether he'll run for the office he took over after the May 5 death of elected leader Umaru Yar'Adua. But Mr. Jonathan faces a public that remains skeptical of power ever coming to the nation of 150 million people and questions over whether privatization will work. The workers' union at Nigeria's state-run power company announced an indefinite strike Wednesday, but called it off Thursday morning. The nation's power grid had yet to begin providing power by the start of Mr. Jonathan's speech. Instead, the president spoke at a ritzy hotel that caters to foreigners and business owners in Lagos, where large generators run 24 hours a day. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703959704575453263436258580.html More to follow. . . |
^ Yes, you can even see that the compass newspapers figures don't add up. 22 governors attended the meeting, but the compass has figures for 29!! ![]() Anyways, to buttress the point that Jonathan has the overwhelming number of governors, he was confident enough to order Aso Rock security to lock out governor Sherma (Katsina) when he turned up for a visit. Gov Sherma is one of those people is still deluded that the cabal has some power, he has been very hostile to Jonathans campaign. He got was shocked to his hair roots yesterday by the men at Aso Rock gates. |
^ Anything from the Compass is not likely to be credible. IBB does not have 9 states, thats the most obvious giveaway. |
Na mumu na. He doesnt know that the Fulanis will never zone a position meant for the north to him. Whenever it suits them, they will remind him that he is nothing but a Yoruba man. Has he forgoten how hausas in the senate kicked against the observance of a 1 minute silence for sunday awoniyi who had foolishly aligned himself with the core north all his life and rose to become AREWA leader.
I taya for di guy! Well, he seems to have finally drawn a very bad card. It is easy to see that the PDP machine will crank up to isolate and destroy him. How on Earth could he think he could represent zoning and the core North from Kwara? Na wa! Saraki is the new Atiku. ![]() |
2011: PDP govs endorse JonathanMore here http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/10262-2011-pdp-govs-endorse-jonathan-katsina-gov-locked-out-ssouth-duty-bound-to-deliver-ticket-to-jonathan-imoke It really seems Saraki's career is finished. |

2011: PDP governors dump Saraki, root for Jonathan Thursday, 26 August 2010 01:18 Tunji Olawuni •Group to mobilise for INEC The hope of Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State becoming the sole PDP presidential candidate in the 2011 elections dimmed on Wednesday when his fellow governors refused to back him to his chagrin; instead majority of them are rooting for President Goodluck Jonathan. Saraki, who is in his second term as governor of Kwara, is the current chairman of the Governors’ Forum and was one of the governors that opposed the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan as acting president when late President Umaru Yar’Adua was ill. He has been scheming surreptitiously among the 28 governors of the PDP to ensure his adoption as the choice of the governors as the presidential candidate of the party. At the meeting of the PDP governors in Kwara Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, which ended Wednesday morning at about 2.30 a.m. sources disclosed that majority of the governors insisted on backing Jonathan for the presidency. Sources disclosed that some of the governors felt it would be better to throw their support behind Jonathan than endorsing Saraki who, it was learnt, many of them felt was too ambitious. A source close to the meeting said “Saraki could not believe the stiff opposition from many of his colleagues that he (Saraki) could not come out of the meeting to see off his guests. Majority of the governors at the meeting wanted Jonathan to run and therefore should be supported”. The source said after the governors could not reach a consensus, they hurriedly postponed the meeting, saying: “I think it is over for Saraki to get the endorsement of his colleagues.” Mohammed Abba-Aji, special adviser to the president on National Assembly matters, had on Tuesday announced that about two-thirds of the 28 PDP governors were in support of Jonathan running for the presidency. He had also disclosed that President Jonathan was in no way threatened by the governors who were making moves to pick one of them as the party’s candidate for next year’s general elections. As at noon on Wednesday, nearly all the PDP governors had left the Federal Capital Territory after the deadlocked meeting which failed to endorse Saraki but rooted for Jonathan. Meanwhile, a group, Jonathan, Sambo Vanguard (JSV) on Wednesday said it would embark on mass mobilisation at all levels for INEC to conduct a successful voter registration in November. In a communiqué issued in Abuja after its inaugural executive meeting, the group said it had directed students’ union leaders in tertiary institutions to also mobilise for the exercise at the grassroots. It urged President Goodluck Jonathan to announce his decision to contest in the 2011 presidential election. According to the communiqué, Jonathan as a Nigerian has the right to contest any election within the confines of the constitution. “We shall mobilise our members from the wards, local councils and states to protest the delay in announcing his ambition for the 2011 elections. “While we impress on the president to declare and contest, we are equally convinced that any person has the alienable right to contest the presidential seat in a free and fair election,’’ it said. It added that the zoning arrangement of the PDP was extant and allayed the fears of the South East geo-political zone that power would shift to it after the completion of the Yar’Adua tenure. It said that the issue of tribe and religion should not be allowed to deter qualified Nigerians from contesting elective positions in the country. The communiqué commended the decision of the ruling PDP for allowing Jonathan to complete the tenure of late Umaru Yar’Adua. Membership of the group cuts across the 36 states of the federation and FCT. http://www.businessdayonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14047:2011-pdp-governors-dump-saraki-root-for-jonathan-&catid=85:national&Itemid=340 |

EzeUche:Fool. |
Andre Uweh:Abeg NL, make una come o!!! This is getting very funny. Will opening threads on NL change facts on the ground. Please, abeg, if I insulted you or stepped on your toes elsewhere, forgive and forget. This style of opening tribalistic threads will not help anybody. |
asha 80:Thank you my brother, I don't understand this thing at all. Imagine him saying we are suffering Igbo's. Me, Isoko man! How many are we? Many people in Nigeria have never even heard of Isoko people. I am really shocked at Andrew Uweh, because he is somebody I respect. |
EzeUche:To hell with you and your foolishness. Delta state is small, but we are mighty. Lets wait and see your idiotic plan. How can normal people go around looking for enemies, even where they don't exist, if you ain't sick? Are you under the influence of any drugs tonight? What is this foolishness about, don't you have self respect? |
Andre Uweh:Even after begging you, you can't respect yourself? What is it? I have agreed that you people are more than the Chinese, so what more do you want? Should I now set up a shrine? |
Andre Uweh:If you will notice, I don't get into these senseless "my ethnic group is better than yours" debates. If you want to quarrell with Urhobo people, go and look for them, they share enough borders with you and afterall they are a minority, right? You win, Asaba is the capital of Delta state and you people are more than the Chinese. In the name of God, don't involve me in any sort of ethnic bashing thread again. Thank you. |
excanny:What election are you trying to win? Anyway, nobody is saying any region cannot band with others for political benefit. The problem arises with the personality the deal is being done with (Buhari would have been a more understandable proposition) and the fact that the deal is against political benefit of SEVERAL neighbours. IBB of all people? Its just ridiculous. However, something tells me all of this is just highwire bargaining. So please people, put away the tribal swords and lets wait. Everybody has the right to bargain, but maybe this one is just getting a bit too late in the day to deliver any fruitful result. |
