This man is becoming quite an asset to Nigerian leadership. I would go much farther than just calling Nigerian federalism questionable. He is on the right track, but needs to go the whole hog in his demands. I salute him. The lack of true federalism is the reason for our sorry state of development and rampant corruption. |
Fashola Faults Nation’s Federal Structure LAGOS - Governor Babatunde Fashola has faulted the nation’s federal structure and the manner its federalism was conceptualized, just as he inaugurated an 18-man committee on development of pay policy, review and salary determination with a duty schedule to come up with what will now constitute wage and salaries for its workers. The committee is also to consider the relativity of political office holders’ pay to that of the career public officers and professionals in the employ of Lagos State and make appropriate recommendations to the governor and the state executive council. Fashola while inaugurating the committee said its primary objective would be to address the different pay structures that had been introduced at various times by the Federal Government without recourse to states’ ability to pay. The committee chaired by the state commissioner for establishment and training, Jide Sanwo-Olu, draws membership from across sectors in the state public service and is expected to submit its report to the governor within 34 working days, specifically September 30th. Their terms of reference includes, the review of past and present pay structure in Lagos State public service, examination of the resources of Lagos State government, review of the current employee population in the state public service, consideration of the relativity of sectors in the determination of salaries and allowances in Lagos State public service, consideration of the relativity of political office holders’ pay to that of the career public officers and professionals in the state service, examination of industrial relations and collective bargaining systems, and the development of appropriate pay policy for the Lagos State public service. “With the most recent developments, particularly in respect of the seven (7) different consolidated salary structures introduced at the federal public service, Lagos State is not unmindful of the likely agitations that might be in the pipeline, particularly from professionals and generality of the workforce. In nipping envisaged reactions and averting any industrial unrest, it has become imperative that we develop a holistic reward management system to benchmark on issues pertaining to salary determination, wage fixing and pay policy. “This would entail collective bargaining and shall give credence to key economic, organizational and institutional variables.” said Fashola. The governor, who described federalism in practice in Nigeria as questionable, emphasized the need for a return to the era of regions where each of the federating units determined what was paid to public servants based on available resources and priorities. Earlier on, the state Head of Service, Adesegun Ogunlewe, said the policy at the federal level has made it necessary for Lagos to formulate a clear cut policy as well as pay review mechanism for its workers. http://nigerianobservernews.com/18082010/businessservices/indexnews2.html |
EzeUche22:Simple solution. Don't go bring somebody from the village, there are enough good Nigerian men and women abroad; people who have lived there long enough to know how the system works and what the boundaries are. To my mind, those who go looking for village men or women to fly into marriage in a strange land are people who aren't confident in their abiliies with the opposite sex. They would have run into trouble anyway; it all goes back to the Nigerian self esteem issues I pointed out earlier. |
Every topic these days ends up as Yoruba vs Igbo. It is really sad. @topic That man is surely on his way to time in hell (whatever that entails), may the womans soul rest in peace and if there are any kids, may they be comforted. |
An example must be made of these 5 men. What about the other trials that were started as a result of the Jos massacres? |
I hope Ribadu runs under a new party. For what he stands for, its best to give the existing ones a very wide berth. |
@ileke-idi, many of them need anger management classes their hot tempers are out of dis world
It has nothing to do with ethnicity. Rather, it is a Nigerian self esteem problem; the average Nigerian whether male or female, would rather forcibly impress it on everyone around that they are the big shot. It is done in a number of ways, here are a few;
[li]Needlessly speaking at the top of their voices[/li] [li]The famous, "do you know who I am? I can lock up your family"[/li] [li]Outright violence, carried out by getting mobile police, soldiers, thugs etc to do the job or when abroad, a gun[/li]
|

Nigeria does not have to wait till the end of their tenure.
Who will do the impeaching, legislators that are scared to pass anti-corruption laws? |
^ Better again! No funny talk backed by strange links from weird websites with funny adverts. You sound credible when you express your own opinion (no matter ho poor), instead of attempting to start false rumours. |
^ Better than making up stories about a CV and then referring to the strangest and weirdest sites on the Planet as proof (some even with semi-porn adverts). Anyone can live with the above as own your opinion. |
becomrich3:It isn't close. This is state ranking by population, so recalibrate; Rank State Populationhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nigerian_states_by_population |
Abagworo:It is not over education that changes people. You've got to find out how out of touch a lot of people who live abroad are with their roots. Having said that, much worse crimes are commited by Nigerians back home, it boils down to the individual; not where they live or their degree of education. |
^ Stop being funny. It is a forgery created from a summary by fools who are also criminals. Isn't that a beautiful summary capturing all words? Olodo. ![]() |
oyb:. . .So dumb and dim that you cannot tell that what you are seeing is a simple summary? Damn! It can feature in a million pages (and they all different in one way or the other, by the way); only fools will imagine that it is a CV. Its too much garri between the ears!!! ![]() |
Or else. present you papa's cv who will never be president until he dies, even when his cv is better than than of our president's. I promise, i will see to that. God Bless Nigeria! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GodBlessNigeria.com
I guess you are representing your own papa who is most likely uneducated? ![]() |
krendo:
When I see people like BEAF I feel sorry for the future of this country. In his world if you have kind words for Jonathan, then your arguments whatever they may be are facts ordained by God. But if you have unkind words for Jonathan, then whatever you have to say are made up, no matter how compelling your evidence are. This is how you know folks who are simply uncivilised.
Thank you. Next please. What do they call grown men who tell lies? I'm here laughing my head off. |
^ If anybody brings up a forgery as someones CV, the proper thing to do is tell them that they are not only fools, but criminals as well. No two ways about it. If that is too painful, keep away from crime. PS; no anti-IBB person has foolishly put up any forged cv to attack the man. |
He's 64 and she's 37. . . .what comes to your mind if you are really intelligent ?
There are many successful marriages with big age gaps. If it had been approached correctly, lives wouldn't have been snuffed out so prematurely. I really blame the man's strength level. At his age, a lot can go wrong, but he should have had the maturity to play a new game. |
What a pity! How sad. Couples must never allow bitterness to go this far that one of them snaps. A man should always be able to talk to his wife and gain her confidence for her to do the same. It doesn't take much! I don't understand this sort of crime. |
marcdunu:If you think a CV given to the government is a public document, you are even more foolish than I first thought. You might even make the Guiness Book of Records. Listen, nobody is saying you cannot throw barbs or criticisms at any individual in the land, but commiting a crime and a silly one at that? Surely, that's going overboard. Dumb. |
kolitos007:Don't mind the dufus, some people do not know what constitutes a crime. |
marcdunu:At last, you seem to be growing some useful brain tissue between your ears. We thank God Almighty for His Wonders! If you have never seen Jonathans CV, shut your stinky trap and develop some respect for others, especially your President. |
marcdunu:What do you meaning "deleted?" Are you now physically blind in addition to the mental blindness? |
marcdunu:God! Did you have brea st milk as a child? Thats the best thing for mental development. ![]() You mean you couldn't have typed that yourself, made it into a picture and posted it on the web? Ol' boy, you de disgrace your primary school teachers here o! Is it possible for a grown man to be this daft? Pleeeeaaaaaaaaase, tell us you're pretending! www.nairaland.com/attachments/180447_ROTFLMAO_gif3d0c775232c7f27cf80592785b9635b6 |
marcdunu:Did he ever tell you that? Have you ever seen Jonathans CV? Or you are just practising your customary foolishness after reading his biography? Develop a brain dude, even if its a tiny one. . . .Foolish people sha! |
marcdunu:And who has more relevant experience and how? Provide the details, that is the only way you can prove that this thread and its "cv" comments are not childish and foolish. It is a challenge and I'm waiting, let us do an intelligent comparison, instead of the foolishness thats been going on. |
doyin13:You hit the nail on the head. It couldn't be put better. Some of the other posters so far (including the OP), have made childish and foolish "cv" comments. I wonder which of the aspirants has a better cv than Jonathan? Is it ex-soldiers or ex-governors? Who? We need someone who will be ready to give Nigeria true federalism. Corruption is not Nigeria's problem, rather it is a by product of the country's weird federal structure that was built for the singular purpose of criminal embezzlement; that structure needs to go, after which the country will blossom. |
Nchara:It might be from Wikipedia, but the data is from https://www.cgidd.com/ We condemn Wikipedia a bit too much, the reference section of the articles is always very valuable. 1 Lagos State 33,679,258,023Up Delta! We no de carry last! Small but mighty! ![]() If this was done by GDP per capita, na we or Rivers for carry first. . . and by a very very long shot! ![]() 28 Kwara State 3,841,827,534Lol @ "agricultural revolution!" |
OAM4J:In very many ways, you are right. But in creating the thread, I looked at it from the point that, so many folk don't have a clue about who the man is. Many have never heard of the contrived plane crash that wiped out a crop of promising officers, because IBB was scared they might one day usurp his position. Many do not know of the thousands that died after June 12 and how live ammunition, amoured cars and tear gas bear bearing helicopters were deployed against the civilian population. Hopefully, people can begin to learn those things. |
chidichris:Because the others might have planned something, but it is 99% certain that Mamman Vatsa was 100% innocent. |
^^^^^^^^^^^ I am against IBB in every sense. His name should not appear on the ballot sheet even for the least popular party, I know of Dele Giwa, gloria okon, C130,june 12, gulf war windfall, however I dont seem to understand this Vatsa angle to the crimes he committed. Are we saying there was no coup plot by Vatsa?
Indeed. There are very strong reasons to believe that such never occured. Please read this and weep, http://www.dawodu.com/vatsa.htm |
It is very sad, but going to certain states is like visiting an evil shrine. . . .Dirty, decripit and despair inspiring. Nigerians don't know the meaning of good governance; in fact a great deal of the population ("literate" and illiterate) is so ignorant, that the average person in that bracket talks, thinks and acts like a dimwit. |
