PHP websites are the most insecure areas of the internet!
Imagine a single technology accounting for "43% in 2006, 36% in 2007, 35% in 2008, and 30% in 2009" of ALL vulnerabilities Worldwide.

The National Vulnerability Database stores all vulnerabilities found in computer software. The overall proportion of PHP-related vulnerabilities on the database amounted to: 20% in 2004, 28% in 2005, 43% in 2006, 36% in 2007, 35% in 2008, and 30% in 2009.[43] Most of these PHP-related vulnerabilities can be exploited remotely: they allow crackers to steal or destroy data from data sources linked to the webserver (such as an SQL database), send spam or contribute to DoS attacks using malware, which itself can be installed on the vulnerable servers.

These vulnerabilities are caused mostly by not following best practice programming rules: technical security flaws of the language itself or of its core libraries are not frequent (23 in 2008, about 1% of the total). [44][45] Recognizing that programmers cannot be trusted, some languages include taint checking to detect automatically the lack of input validation which induces many issues. Such a feature is being developed for PHP,[46] but its inclusion in a release has been rejected several times in the past.[47][48]

Hosting PHP applications on a server requires a careful and constant attention to deal with these security risks.[49] There are advanced protection patches such as Suhosin and Hardening-Patch, especially designed for web hosting environments.[50]

Government to fast-track dredging of lower Niger
By Elizabeth Archibong
August 19, 2010 11:32PM

The federal government is determined to fast-track the completion of the dredging of the lower Niger River, the resuscitation of the Ajaokuta Steel Company, as well as the resuscitation of the National Iron Ore Mining Company, in Itakpe, Goodluck Jonathan said yesterday.

Speaking while delivering an address at the official commissioning of some key projects in Kogi State during a one-day working visit to the state yesterday, Mr Jonathan also made a pledge to see to the completion of the construction of ports in Baro, Lokoja, Idah, Onitsha and Sapele, to boost our nation’s economy.

President Jonathan said the completion of the projects “will be of immense benefit not only to the people of Kogi State, but other Nigerians at large. I am, therefore, committed to an early completion of these projects”.

While congratulating the Kogi State governor, Ibrahim Idris, on the inauguration of the international market and other projects, Mr Jonathan said the completion of the projects will go a long way in delivering the dividends of democracy to the electorate.

Mr Jonathan, who arrived at the Lokoja old Stadium aboard a helicopter at 11.20am, headed straight to the Lokoja Specialist Hospital, where he commissioned the project. Thereafter, he proceeded to commission the Ganaja-Ajaokuta Road, despite heavy rain fall, before inspecting the stadium and the Lokoja water project which was constructed at a cost of N9.9 billion and has a capacity to provide 10 million gallons of water daily.

The president’s final task was the commissioning of the Lokoja International Market, which was constructed at a cost of N3.8 billion.

The governor later said that the two projects would be completed by the first quarter of 2011.

Completing the road

In an address at the commissioning ceremony, Mr Idris urged the federal government to revive “the Lokoja Port project, which has been abandoned, and graciously ensure the construction of the Idah Port in order to ensure their completion and to complement the commendable dredging project which your administration has embarked upon”.

“I implore your excellency to actualise Ajaokuta project to incorporate all the major components and ensure the full realisation of this project. If you can do this sir, your name will be in gold when the history of this nation shall be written for posterity,” he said.

While also thanking the president for the ongoing dualisation of the Abuja-Lokoja-Okene Road, Mr Idris said, “we, however, appeal to your excellency to use your good offices to fast-track the completion of the project, to reduce the high incidence of road accidents which has consumed so many lives”.

If you are going to argue can you at least try and be cohherrent at least. The article is not focusing on generation but transmission, so why express shock that it actually talks about power transmission projects and not power generation projects? Also, if we magically get 10,000MW tomorrow, do you think you will see improved light? The grid at the moment is not even distributing the measly power we generate at full capacity and is also grossly inefficient, so what are you talking about please? Must we always criticise just for the sake of it?
Exactly! I believe pwer can be quite rapidly scaled up to 7000 Megawatts in the short term, but the infrastructure is already begging on its knees with the little that is being delivered.

netotse:
you know part of what trips me about this supergrid something? TCN opened the commercial bids to construct 330kV and 132kV substations and transmission lines today and yesterday respectively(you should hear the prices being called out o) and they are now proposing to spend another 525billion(where them wan thief the money?), govt needs to sit down and plan properly before coming up with all these schemes. . .
Its like your feet and ears are firmly planted in the koko. grin

I think when talking about the future of the north, the options available to the north goes beyond Nasir El-Rufai, and Nuhu Ribadu. I think the list would also include Bukola Saraki, Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu, Danjuma Goje, Isa Yuguda, and Gabriel Suswam. I have detected a divide between the younger generation of northern politicians roughly represented by the Northern Governors Forum, and the older generation represented by the Arewa Consultative Forum. In recent times, these two groups have not necessarily been on the same page. I seem to detect that the younger generation of political leaders seem to be chafing under the leadership of the older generation, and they are showing a desire to forge their own path. The truth is that if the younger generations continue to follow the dictates of the older generation they may soon find themselves totally irrelevant. The following articles may be somewhat instructive.

Guardian: SEARCH BEGINS FOR “NEW ODER” IN THE NORTH
Nigerian Compass: 2011 PRESIDENCY: SARAKI, GOJE, SUSWAM, YUGUDA DIVIDE NORTH
Most of those you have mentioned now regard themselves as Middle Belt or North Central. The word unqualified description, "North" no longer counts for Bukola Saraki, Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu, Danjuma Goje, Isa Yuguda, and Gabriel Suswam.

Aside from Gabriel Suswam, the all the men mentioned seem to have positioned themselves on the wrong side of the fence.
For Bukola Saraki, he is not seen as being Northern enough, even though he has pitched his tent in that region. To compound his situation, his people are clamouring for state creation that will see them as South Westerners. Saraki, is most likely going to be swept away by the tides of time.

Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu is a very decent man and one who could be a true leader. His only stain so far (in the context of this article), is support for the discredited IBB. he is likely to identify more with the Middle Belt than the far North in future politics.

I have little to say about Danjuma Goje. Like El-Rufai and Ribadu, he is 100% leadership material. He has chances both in the North and in the Middle Belt. Its his to choose.

I also have little to say about Isa Yuguda, he is a confirmed political ashewo, who is facing the abyss of irrelevance.

Gabriel Suswam is a future kingmaker in the new North Central (Middle Belt) region. He will lead hiis people in their struggle for autonomy from the far North. he has a bright future.

as per the bolded^^ how on earth does a super grid serve to increase generation? it can reduce losses(our losses are said to be btw 40 and 50%) but not reduce generation. and why the flaming be intimate with are they claiming the 330kV transmission lines haven't been able to transmit power? mennn i'm sick and tired of reading all the misinformation that is passed on to nigerians.

It is time for action in the power sector. The people cannot continue to live on promises. To make progress in our quest for stable electricity supply, we need to determine how sums that were voted for the sector in the past were expended. It is important to account for the huge sums released in the recent past, before another N525 billion is put in, otherwise, the new investment may end up the same way as the former ones.
How can we wait until Obj's regime from 8 years ago is probed before we invest in putting urgent structures on the ground? How many years will such a probe last?
In the meantime, the country is grinding to a halt, sometimes I think we should have a "kick a pressman day" enshrined in the constitution. grin

It is important to find out where money's have been spent, but we need to keep pressing forwards at the same time. The new grid is supposed to more than double our power transmission from the current 2,500 - 3,000 Megawatts to about 7,000 Megawatts as soon as April next year (a mere 7 months away). So why would anybody suggest we wait for some impossible probe? The curent system cannot carry an additional 3,000 Megawatts load.

The proposed National Super Grid
By Sun News Publishing
Friday, August 20, 2010

President Goodluck Jonathan's recent approval of the immediate construction of a new National Super Grid to boost Nigeria's electricity generation to about 7000 megawatts (MW) by April 2011 is good news.

But the amount that has been endorsed for release by the president for the project - N525 billion - is a lot of money that should be effectively deployed to ensure that the objective is realised.

The 700 KV Super Grid is expected to be completed in four years at a cost of $3.5 billion. It is a component of the government's new roadmap for the power sector, which will be unveiled in Lagos on August 26.

The new Grid is expected to increase the nation's capacity to transmit power across vast distances, which the existing 330/132 KV Grid cannot do. It will be funded as a Federal asset with additional financing from private investors and international development agencies.

It has been estimated that it will increase power generation to 6939 MW by April 2011 and 14019 by December 2013. While we support this latest bid to resolve Nigeria's acute power shortage problem with a Super Grid, Nigerians cannot but be sceptical because this is not the first time that we are hearing grandiose plans for power generation in the country. Huge sums have been committed to power projects over the years without any commensurate improvement in power supply.

The case of the $16 billion reportedly committed to power projects by the erstwhile president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, without any positive impact on power supply in the country during his administration is still very fresh. The probe of the expenditure by the House of Representatives did not yield any significant results.

Nigerians are tired of failed promises and gargantuan expenditure in the power sector. We want to see electricity in our houses and factories and not on the pages of newspapers. Whatever amount is spent to increase electricity supply in the country is money well spent, provided the stated objectives are realised. Increased power supply will give the nation a boost, and the economy will be better for it.

There should be closure on the matter of $16 billion investment in electricity generation by the Obasanjo administration to reassure the people that it did not just go down the cesspit of corruption. Also, that the proposed investment is not just a ploy by the Jonathan administration to feather its own nest in preparation for the coming general election.

Efforts should be made to ensure that all outstanding projects in the sector are delivered, to lay a good example for those who have been charged with the construction of the new National Super Grid. Nigerians no longer want to hear stories and excuses for non-perfromance. We need to see a change. We, however, hope that the latest contract has been carefully thought through. It has provided new hope that the nation will soon get out of the power cul de sac, which should not be dashed.

April is just eight months away. By that time, the people will assess the impact of the new Super Grid and the government will receive either praises or condemnation for the project. The government, last year, failed to deliver on the 6000 MW promise. Everything should be done to ensure that there is no room for failure on this fresh promise of 7000 MW by April 2011.

Aside from that, the North is waking up at last to what the rest of the country has been seeing for ages. The benefit is that we will now begin to see the loosening of the grip of ex-generals on our political landscape. Buhari and IBB are the last and it seems, they are going nowhere; but we must not be complacent in ensuring that these two dinosaurs leave the scene for younger blood and fresher ideas.

The future of the North lies in the hands of men like Ribadu and El-Rufai.

Headlines Aug 19, 2010 Share | By Emeka Mamah

KADUNA— THE decision of former President Ibrahim Babangida, former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to contest the 2011 presidential election is not enjoying the full backing of the North as a northern based group, Arewa Progressive Union, APU, is said to be mobilising the entire North against these leaders who they described as ‘expired leaders’.

So far, four presidential aspirants have emerged from the North. They include Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Sekarau.

Vanguard, however, learnt that some Northern leaders and young elements were reported not to be comfortable with any of them and have, therefore, embarked on a search for a credible northern candidate to challenge President Goodluck Jonathan should he decide to contest the presidential election.

Last Thursday, some northern leaders, including senators and members of the House of Representatives held secret meetings where some aggrieved leaders decided to form a new power bloc in the party, known as the ‘Redemption Group’ to redeem the image of the North.

In what appeared to be a follow up to these meetings, Arewa Progressive Union, APU, held its meeting in Kaduna, yesterday, where it declared that it would soon organize “series of protest marches across the 19 states in the North” to register its protest against the decision of former President Ibrahim Babangida, former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to contest the 2011 presidential election.”

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting in Kaduna and signed by APU National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulhamid Inuwa Abdulkadir, also criticized what the group described as unbridled ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan and urged that “Nigerians must be cautious because Jonathan’s desperation and ambition will soon set this country ablaze.”

APU added that the planned protest was part of activities to mark its15th anniversary which would be rounded off with a grand rally in Abuja, “where we are going to mobilize the entire North against these expired leaders who have continued to drag us backwards.”

The communiqué explained that special prayers would be held in churches and mosques across the northern states on Friday and Sunday, “to seek the intervention of the Almighty God to deliver us from some of our leaders who want to continue to enslave us.”

It stated: “The Arewa Progressive Union has watched with keen interest political developments in the country within the past few weeks and hereby urges the entire good people of the North and indeed all Nigerians to ignore the laughable desire of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Major-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to contest the 2011 presidential election.

“It is quite unfortunate that these people who are no longer current with modern developmental and leadership trends in the world still believe that they can stampede the people into supporting them either collectively or individually in the quest to return to power.

“After several years of northern leadership of Nigeria, the North does not have anything to show for it except that the individuals concerned and their families and friends continue to flaunt their ill-gotten wealth.

“The North today is the most backward section of Nigeria with destitution, crass poverty, illiteracy, hunger and disease on rampage everywhere, destroying the people on daily basis. We find it amazing that these northern grandfathers do not find it worthwhile to prepare the younger generation of northerners to succeed them, instead they want to cling onto power forever and this goes to expose their high level of self-centeredness.

“The Arewa Progressive Union will not fold its arms and watch these people destroy the North. We have resolved to organize protest matches simultaneously in all the northern capital cities, as part of measures to sensitize our people that they should not be deceived again.

“The national rally and public lecture slated for Abuja is going to be all-embracing as it will also involve other sections of Nigeria. We want to chart a fresh way forward for our fatherland which has been plundered by a few citizens over these several years.

“The Arewa Progressive Union also wishes to note that the current scheming of President Goodluck Jonathan to retain power by all means will not do the country any good.

“The President should not in any way overstretch his legendary good luck otherwise his unbridled ambition is likely to set this country ablaze in the not too distant future.”

“Although the APU is not a partisan organization, but we are conversant with all the arguments concerning the issue of zoning and presidential power rotation in the country and hereby warn politicians to be wary of any actions that will jeopardize the unity of Nigeria.

“In as much as we shall remain non-partisan, we shall not hesitate to intervene when it becomes absolutely necessary and mobilize the ordinary people against the selfish desires of some people.”

Can the North stop Jonathan?
Politics Aug 19, 2010 Share | By Hugo ODIOGOR Deputy Politics Editor
Can a sitting President bow out of power without a fight? And if he chooses to fight, what will be his place in history if he is defeated at the party primaries?

These are the dilemma facing Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as each camp weighs their options in the forth coming elections.

With the declaration of Alhaji Abubakar Atiku and General Ibrahim Babangida on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the arena of confrontation is set and every one awaits Dr. Jonathan’s next move.

On the part of the opposition, we have Alhaji Ibrahim Shekerau of All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), General Muhammadu Buhari of Convention Peoples Congress (CPC), Otunba Dele Momodu of Labour Party areequally showing strong interest in the plum job of the presidency.

At the heart of the matter is whether the North can stop Dr. Jonathan ,either at the level of the primaries or in the election proper. A recent media survey projects that Dr. Jonathan will emerge victorious in 17 states if PDP conducts primaries in the 26 states that it controls. That is a significant leap that can silence any opposition but political analyst believe that Dr. Jonathan, who has been running his political career on good luck may be thin on strategies to contain the crafty wiles of General Babangida, whom many are beginning to see as a potent threat to Dr. Jonathan’s ambition to remain in office until 2015.

As it is now, both Gen. Babangida and Alhaji Atiku are working on a theory of uniting the North to prevent Dr. Jonathan from getting beyond the primary stage. But the problem for both men is how to structure the composition of the delegates sent by each state. Before the new move to limit the number of delegates which can come from each state governor, the practice has been for all manner of political appointees to show up and vote.

This situation made state governors very powerful. But reform minded Jonathan has been leading the campaign to trim the powers of state governors. This is a double edge sword which might hurt the president. The issue now is whether the combined team of Babangida and Atiku is strong and powerful enough to upstage a powerful federal might and bureaucratic machinery?

Will the powerful bureaucracy, controlled by the major ethnic groups stand by the president? How strong is Babangida and Atiku in the North or in other parts of the country for that matter. A clear demographic survey of the Hausa Fulani camp may suggest that the Hausa Fulan seven states will maintain its opposition to the mergence of Dr. Jonathan at the primaries.

Specifically, such states as Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina and Bauchi These are those who would not want to concede power in 2011. At the primaries, such states in the North Central and Middle belt namely Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Kaduna would want a flexible approach to power arrangement in the country. This is a situation that might work well for Dr. Jonathan. For all the brouhaha about the possible candidature of Gen. Babangida, he still has an uphill task to dismember the PDP machinery to surmount.

Atiku, who is team up with Babangida has not been fully integrated into the party even at his home base. The issue then is what joker does PDP have in place to deny Dr. Jonathan a ticket at the primary.? First, there is a concerted campaign of moral blackmail which his gaining ground. That is to the effect that the president should serve his time and resign honourable,

The plank of this campaign is that Dr. Jonathan should be a gentle man and relinquish power. But with pressure from international community, his South South base, the professional and intellectual groups, it is difficult to see the president chicken out in a battle that he seems to have an upper hand.

The point remains that Dr. Jonathan has three prong battles to fight to be able to overcome the onslaught from Gen. Babangida and Atiku within PDP. The first is the battle of self-confidence. He has to convince himself that he can fight the battle. The second is how to unite his South South base to avoid being broken into by Gen. Babangida, who still commands measurable acceptance across the country. The third battle is that of holding PDP together after the primaries, because a win for him would lead to realignment of political forces as the North would want to present a common front to challenge him in the election proper.

The outcome of the primaries will foretell what to expect in the general election.

A PDP Chieftain Ogbuseshi, Philip Ibonye, told Vanguard “that the North is still a potent force, but the dynamics of Nigeria’s politics has changed the old order may not be applicable in the new dispensation. We are facing a new era of fast pace changes. Those who are still thinking of the North as old Monolithic North, might be wrong.”

Hon Emeka Maduakam argues that there are serious political realignments in the country. As at today, we cannot say we know the position of South West, we can say that the South East is going with the thinking that Dr. Jonathan should run. We cannot rule out the fact that the like of Babangida would penetrate the South East and South West.

It is therefore time for Dr. Jonathan to begin to work on strategies to penetrate the North instead of relying on goodluck or the confrontational approach of some South South Leaders. What ever is the case, the formal entry of the President into the race will end all speculations and put the battle squarely in the hands of PDP power brokers. Commonsense however suggests a wait and see approach. But the truth remains that a sitting president does not go down in African politics.

Incidents of kidnapping seem to have died down quite sharply since Jonathan gave the IG orders to bring the crime to a halt.
It would be the greatest piece of good news, if that blight on our nation is truly being defeated and consigned to the bin of history. It is a crime that has brought psychological trauma, injury, loss of life and untold pain to many individuals and families.

But, knowing our Police, I'm a bit worried that it seems all too quick and all too easy. The seeming speed at which the current lull has come, brings a few questions to mind;
[li]Was there involvement of bad eggs in the Police?[/li]
[li] Is kidnapping an organised crime, such that the bosses can give nationwide orders for their footmen to lie low until the heat cools down, giving us a false sense of security?[/li]
[li]Who exactly are the kidnappers?[/li]
[li]If the gangs have been decimated, where is the expected surge in arrests, indeed how many kidnappers have been arrested?[/li]

That Oyo figure shows that this chart is trash.
Anambra state is certainly more industrialised than Oyo state, especially around the Onitsha, Awka, Nnewi axis; but Oyo has a very low population density compared to the East which might explain it. However, it is very hard to buy that story.

Where are the economics gurus?

Delta state is by far richer than Anambra, even without oil. it is deservedly at the top of the per capita ranking in Nigeria.

The place is so developed that in a few years it would look like one huge metropolis.
The place is jammed with all sorts of niche industries. Delta state people form a very huge proportion of Nigeria's service industries (especially financial). Close to half of all the important media businesses are owned by Delta state indegenes (so much so, that we even gave Nigeria the Urhobo word, ikebe  grin).

I could go on and one. We no de carry last! grin cool

Politics › Nigerians In Diaspora Will Be Able To Vote In 2015 by Beaf(op): 5:47am On Aug 19, 2010
Nigerians in diaspora ‘ll vote in 2015 – Jonathan
National News Aug 19, 2010 Share | By Daniel Idonor, just back from Gabon

ABUJA — PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has said the Federal Government will continue to ensure that Nigerians in diaspora exercise their  right to vote during elections that follow the 2011 general elections.

He also assured that more distinguished Nigerians in the diaspora will be considered subsequently for inclusion in the national honours list.
President Jonathan gave these assurance while addressing members of the Nigerian Community in Gabon, at the residence of the Nigerian Ambassador in Libreville.

The President was in Gabon for the 50th independence anniversary of that country.

Responding to questions and comments from Nigerians on the occasion, Jonathan noted that it might not be feasible for Nigerians in the diaspora to vote at the forthcoming 2011 polls.

But pointed out that the trends in modern technology like the electronic voting system had simplified the voting process and assured that government would ensure they exercise their franchise in subsequent elections.
On the quest for the inclusion of Nigerians in diaspora in the national awards, Jonathan said the Justice Belgore-led National Awards Committee would henceforth consider more Nigerians in the diaspora in the honours list, through nominations from the various missions of the country abroad.

The President also said he would accord special recognition to 50 Nigerians from various walks of life as part of Nigeria’s 50th independence anniversary celebration in October.

Jonathan particularly praised Nigerians in Gabon for their meaningful contributions to the economy of that country and assured that government would look into all consular issues affecting them, especially complaints of high cost of resident permits and visa fees, difficulties in acquiring the ECOWAS e-passport and illegal immigration by other nationals to Gabon from the coast of Nigeria.

He promised to discuss these issues with President Bongo when they meet at the UN in September, including a possible one-day state visit to Gabon.

Contributing, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia, said Nigeria was back on the world stage in a record time since Jonathan’s assumption of office as Commander-in-Chief, as her relations with African countries and the world have become more robust than ever.

Do you guys really want a president that will bail out when things get tough?
Funny grin.

Does Ribadu seem like the type to bale out? The answer has to be a firm no.
Time and circumstance place GEJ as the man, but I rate Ribadu very highly.

If the northerners get back power they will fight him, they are not for true federalism at all.
You would be surprised that many areas in the North would want true federalism as well. It just requires a few more vocal leaders like Fashola to raise the volume of the debate and those lacking the courage would begin to find voice to speak out about their true desires.
The unitary system of govt we are masquerading as federalism can only lead to strife and corruption. The unitary system of govt is only suitable for tiny, culturally homogeneous countries.
You're so sexist it's not funny.

How are you sure that women are the ones causing the problem?

True, if women make more money than the man, it becomes a problem. But men have it harder adjusting to a new enviroment, esp the huge difference in culture.

Like OnlyTruth said before. . . . Nigerian men in Nigerian, marry  NIgerian women in Nigeria. Nigeria men abroad, marry a Nigerian women abroad. Dont bring any man or woman here to marry, esp if you have self-control and betrayal issue.
And men cant stress their wife.

"My wife must be on my table when I get back from work"
"My food must be on my table when I wake up"
"Drop the kids at work"
"The baby is all your work"
"Take the baby to the doctor"

etc. . . . NIgerian men believe that their only job is to pay the bills and bring money to the table.
There is nothing wrong with the super bolded one o! I prefer my woman on the table to food anyday! grin
Un huh!
