Wear T-Shirts with ‘POLICE’ inscription and go to jail
By Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji

July 19, 2010 01:18AM

Individuals who wear T-Shirts on which the word ‘Police’ is inscribed will be arrested and prosecuted, the leadership of the Ogun State Police Command said at the weekend.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in Abeokuta, the state capital, that information at the disposal of the police has established that the T-Shirts are being use to commit various crimes in the society.

Similarly, the command warned that shops where such materials are being sold will be closed and the owners prosecuted. “The Command will beam its searchlight on dealers of shops where T-Shirts with Police inscriptions are stored or sold, for these shirts are being used to commit crimes in the state and enough is enough. The Command wishes to warn that anyone found in possession of these shirts or clothing will be arrested and charged to court accordingly,” Mr Adejobi said.

He also appealed to the public to understand that these steps taken by the police are meant to ensure more effective policing in Ogun State.

Warning all motorcyclists

The command also said it will no longer allow commercial motorcyclists to carry more than one passenger at a time as some hoodlums are now taking advantage of the situation to rob innocent citizens.

“This development has built up a great threat to security in the state and the command is set to nip it in the bud,” the police imagemaker said.

The Command, however, advised members of the public on the need to always supply the police with information, in order to have a crime free society.

“This can be achieved by calling 08037168147,08032136765 and 08123822910,” Mr Adejobi said.

@Beaf the custom DNN modules are for website. Internally we use MOSS 2007(sharepoint) but we don't have test environment.
So we don't do sharepoint module development.
Do you do DNN?
Not really, but I'ved worked with a couple of commercial CMS's (one Java, the other .NET). Right now, I do some web, WPF and Windows Forms.

I used DNN long ago (not commercially though). I haven't looked at it for years now; then it had serious accessibility issues (yeah I worked in one of those places), relied very heavily on tables and was written in VB.NET (it was impressive in other ways though). Is it still that way?
Have you tried another open source one called Mojoportal? Its quite good too.

So can Nigeria be salvaged? Or is there no hope in your honest opinion?
My brother, it is possible, but it will need to be a very patient journey travelled with steps of wisdom. No gra gra.
We need to identify problem areas and tackle them one by one, the old North (some call it core North) problem is a very serious one. If that is resolved; the next thing is to fight for credible elections. The salvation of Nigeria will begin the very day we can elect credible leader at all levels.

‘One North’ is dead - Analysts
Monday, 19 July 2010 01:19 Max Amuchie

The popular notion of a homogenous north which was very influential in the Nigerian political equation is now dead, analysts have said. This view is informed by the sharp disagreement among the northern political elite on the issue of zoning with regard to the 2011 presidential election.

Analysts told BusinessDay at the weekend that the disagreement among the northern political class appears to be the culmination of actions taken by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to break the stranglehold of the far north on power equation in the north and the entire country. With regard to the scheming for next year’s presidential election, two groups in the north have emerged to articulate the interest of that part of the country. The Northern Political Summit took place last Thursday in Kaduna. Earlier, another group, the Northern Political Leaders Forum had met in Abuja.
At the Kaduna political summit, a section of northern leaders were unambiguous about their rejection of zoning, an issue which has become very contentious. The leaders held the position that the zoning that produced the presidency of Umaru Yar’Adua and President Goodluck Jonathan was an inseparable ticket, and that the demise of one did not invalidate the privileges of the remaining beneficiary of that zoning.

In their view, what is more important is not zoning the presidency to any part of the country, but to ensure that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is able to conduct free and fair elections next year. The summit urged the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to allow the provision of the Nigerian constitution to guide it in producing guidelines and regulations in the conduct of primaries to elect its presidential candidate. The Northern Political Summit is made up predominantly of minorities in the north like Jerry Gana, Solomon Lar, Labaran Maku, George Akume, Abubakar Audu, among others. There is also a sprinkling of Hausa-Fulani like Muktar Mansur, Salisu Buhari and Ibrahim Mantu.

On the other hand, the Northern Political Leaders Forum is largely an organisation of Hausa-Fulani like Salihu Ibrahim, Lawal Kaita, Bello Maitama Yusuf, Suleiman Ishiaku, Adamu Ciroma, Shetima Mustapha, among others, and a few northern minority leaders like Iyorchia Ayu, Ignatius Ayu, and David Jemibewon. For reasons that are obvious, Atiku Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida belong to this group. This group insists that the ruling party has a subsisting agreement which stipulates that the presidency of the country should reside in the north till 2015. “It is our view that the system of zoning and rotation would secure every Nigerian the opportunity to access political power and thus engender peaceful co-existence of the various components of the country”, the pro-zoning group had declared.

According to political analysts who spoke to BusinessDay, between 1999 and 2007 when he was in power as civilian president, Obasanjo took certain steps that gave voice to northern minorities. According to them, Obasanjo restructured the military, which had been an instrument in the hands of the far north. Hitherto, command positions in the armed forces had been the preserve of the core north but Obasanjo appointed northern minorities like Victor Malu, Samuel Afolayan, Ganiyu Adekeye and Isaac Alfa as service chiefs. He also gave to them major political appointments. Hitherto, they had always complained silently that they were used by the core north as representing a homogeneous north.

The analysts said northern minorities have seen clearly that the current agitation for zoning would only benefit the core north such that it will be taken that the whole north has ruled, should it be allowed to subsist, while the minorities will be left in the lurch.

Supporters dump IBB for Jonathan
July 19, 2010 12:12AM

Sections of the former military president, Ibrahim Babangida’s campaign organisation collapsed at the weekend as state coordinators of his campaign in the 2007 general election, at the weekend, dumped him for President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign team.

The former Babangida state campaign coordinators, led by Ernest Khuemen Okojie, described Mr Jonathan as the “Joshua of this time whom God has ordained to lead the Nigeria to the promise land.” “We were formally working for IBB, but few hours ago we are now wearing Jonathan,” he said. Mr. Okojie, who spoke in Abuja at a meeting with leader of the Niger Delta, Edwin Clark and other leaders of the Ijaw nation, said Mr Jonathan would “free this country from bad rulers to good governance where everyone will feel a sense of inclusiveness, be happy and proud.” “I, E.K. Okojie, the Chairman and National Coordinator of the defunct IBB Presidential Campaign Organisation is here with 35 out of the 37 state coordinators to join hands with all the all the progressives and, the hitherto marginalized people of this country, both north and south to work hard to ensure President Goodluck Jonathan becomes President in 2011,” he said. Mr. Okojie said some of the northerners agitating that Mr Jonathan cannot contest are “unreasonable, greedy and unpatriotic. That Jonathan will be the President of the great country Nigeria come 2010 is God’s decision.”

Momentum behind Jonathan

Mr. Clark said the switch indicates that momentum has now swung behind Jonathan. “Today is one of the happiest days in my life,” he said. “The IBB campaign groups have resolved to work for Jonathan. No section of this country is against Jonathan contesting the election.” Some Northern elders had, during the Northern Political Summit on the Roadmap to 2011 in Kaduna, recently thrown their weight behind a Goodluck Jonathan presidency. They argued that the zoning policy that produced the presidency of Umaru Yar’Adua, and the then Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan was an inseparable ticket and, therefore, the demise of one did not invalidate the privileges of the remaining beneficiary of that agreement.

How about state and local policing with well-defined juridictions to monitor, go after and deal with crime in our communities. Is that asking too much?
How about we go the whole hog and demand true federalism?

The 'Little Rock Nine' was a group of African-American students who were enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957. The ensuing 'Little Rock Crisis', in which the students were initially prevented from entering the racially segregated school by Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus, and then attended after the intervention of President Eisenhower, is considered to be one of the most important events in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. On their first day of school, guards at the school would not let them in and they were followed by mobs making threats to lynch.[1]
The U.S. Supreme Court issued its historic Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, 347 U.S. 483, on May 17, 1954. The decision declared all laws establishing segregated schools to be unconstitutional, and it called for the desegregation of all schools throughout the nation.[2]
After the decision the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) attempted to register black students in previously all-white schools in cities throughout the South. In Little Rock, the capital city of Arkansas, the Little Rock School Board agreed to comply with the high court's ruling. Virgil Blossom, the Superintendent of Schools, submitted a plan of gradual integration to the school board on May 24, 1955, which the board unanimously approved. The plan would be implemented during the fall of the 1957 school year, which would begin in September 1957. By 1957, the NAACP had registered nine black students to attend the previously all-white Little Rock Central High, selected on the criteria of excellent grades and attendance.[3] The nicknamed "Little Rock Nine" consisted of Ernest Green (b. 1941), Elizabeth Eckford (b. 1941), Jefferson Thomas (b. 1942), Terrence Roberts (b. 1941), Carlotta Walls LaNier (b. 1942), Minnijean Brown (b. 1941), Gloria Ray Karlmark (b. 1942), Thelma Mothershed (b. 1940), and Melba Beals (b. 1941). Ernest Green was the first African American to graduate from Central High School.

[edit]National Guard blockade

Several segregationist councils threatened to hold protests at Central High and physically block the black students from entering the school. Governor Orval Faubus deployed the Arkansas National Guard to support the segregationists on September 4, 1957. The sight of a line of soldiers blocking nine black students from attending high school made national headlines and polarized the city. Regarding the accompanying crowd, one of the nine black students, Elizabeth Eckford, recalled "they moved closer and closer , Somebody started yelling , I tried to see a friendly face somewhere in the crowd — someone who maybe could help. I looked into the face of an old woman and it seemed a kind face, but when I looked at her again, she spat on me."[4] On September 9, "The Council of Church Women" issued a statement condemning the governor's deployment of soldiers to the high school and called for a citywide prayer service on September 12. Even President Dwight Eisenhower attempted to de-escalate the situation and summoned Governor Faubus to meet him. The President warned the governor not to interfere with the Supreme Court's ruling.[5]
[edit]Armed escort

The next day, Woodrow Mann, the Mayor of Little Rock, asked President Eisenhower to send federal troops to enforce integration and protect the nine students. On September 24, the President ordered the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army to Little Rock and federalized the entire 10,000 member Arkansas National Guard, taking it out of the hands of Governor Faubus. The 101st took positions immediately, and the nine students successfully entered the school on the next day, Wednesday, September 25, 1957.

So you want us to do what America did in 1957 long before any of us here was born? You ain't one of us anyway, so I can only blame NL for allowing gutter folk like you on here.

There must be reasons why kidnapping is catching on like a flame; those reasons are better dealt with. Like I said earlier, you can't treat headache in the hope of curing malaria.

As embarrassing as it might seem a quick fix approach would be required to stem the current tide of crimes, while bearing in mind that the root cause of ill-health curently plaguing the nation polity/politics be looked into.
If we employ a double barreled gun to get rid of a fly, there is no guarantee that we will hit the fly. Instead, we just might hit the wrong target and stir up a hornets nest.

Nigerian police arrest wife of alleged kidnappers’ ringleader

APA, Abuja (Nigeria) For the first time in the history of criminal kidnapping in Nigeria, the authorities were closing in on the kidnappers following the arrest of the wife of the alleged ringleader (name withheld) of those that kidnapped four journalists and their driver last Sunday.

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ogbonnna Onovo, on Sunday confirmed the arrest, which he said was an indication that there was no hiding place for the culprits.

The police said they were working on other leads in the just-ended kidnap saga and ensure that all the hoodlums were arrested and prosecuted.

President Goodluck Jonathan had on Friday told the nation that one of the kidnappers had been arrested and he ordered that the culprits be flushed out after he had ordered the deployment of militant intelligence service and the State Security Services (SSS) to assist the police in the task.

The four journalists and their driver were rescued on Sunday when they were dumped somewhere in Abia State, south-east Nigeria by the kidnappers who were not paid any ransom even though they made a request for US$200,000.

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, on Sunday prevailed on the government to make “a harsh example” of those engaged in kidnapping.

Adefaye told journalists that Nigeria was gaining notoriety for crimes it had not been known for and called for an immediate halt to the situation.

Dark1:
In view of the bolded above, what would you recommend to arrest the rising kidnap cases in the east?
That we consider it a national failure (and there are many). We need to dig deep to find out what the root causes are;
Is it connected to 2011? If so, who is involved, police, govs etc?
Is it that Igbo's have been traditionally maligned in the country since the war and react quicker to any negative slide in the country? If so, what should be done to promote equity?
Is it because government (by extension police) is too far away from the people that things have got this far out of hand? If so, should we not be looking at implementing true federalism and bringing govet (and the police) closer to the people?

There are tons of deeper questions we should be really bothered about, not just applying quick bandages to every problem. Nigeria is rickety, because everything is done from Abuja and we've got it all upside down.

Nigeria is not a police state ruled by Stalin and no matter how embarrassed you might claim to be, drafting in the army will be even more of an embarrassment to the country.
Stop wasting your time feeling embarrassed about other people, look around and tell me how much there is to be proud about. When you find very little, channel your energy positively to making us proud.
