OBJ brought about giant leaps in telecoms, development and GDP. OBJ brought about giant leaps in the spilt blood of the innocent, 2,500 slaughtered at Odi. The above is a balanced view. |
Jos too, has been targetted by American-Israeli super-terrorists who kill women and babies! Na wa! ![]() |

^ I'm sure most Nigerians will be dissapointed if they are simply eased out and not actively hounded into Gashua and Kirikiri. We want to see blood on the floor. |
Wherever there is money and contracts, you get "federal character". |
mikeansy:Sarki Mukhtar leaving is really neither here nor there until the FEC has been dismembered and reconstituted. Not until Danbazau has been neutered and retired. Let us look to see if Jonathan will be strengthened enough to at least achieve the 10,000 MW that the US promised to help us with (if no be maut) and 100% implement the Uwais recommendations. He will fail at the above if that ugly crowd of jobbers and robbers surrounds him for much longer. I hear say dem don close down all services for Turai at Aso Rock (even cooks no get work, food has to be brought in). |
kobikwelu:Dude, you have a way of talking sense. |
illusion2:I be a small pikin o! Oga please, what does this means? ![]() @topic IBB was also his own overall intelligence boss. His efforts seriously killed the military, especially the airfoce and navy; other side effects were the death of Dele Giwa etc. |
Afam:Please educate me. I am interested. |
mbulela:Kai! Don't worry, wen e reach my side e go reach you! We go deh do sala everyday, carry go! ![]() But seriously, have we weighed the remarks that acompanied the release of 650 million? It covers so many areas. I am just a layman in that area, it seems there is no financial magic going on there (like the Abuja airport work that went from 4 billion to 64 billion - a whopping 16 times the original estimate). According to her, the units include a portion of the Thermal Power Plant, the light section rolling mill and the wire rod mill, the engineering workshops at ASCL, and the Bergeaud Plant, as well as minimal mining operations and processing at the NIOMCO.Like I said, that seems like a hell of a lot to acheive with 650 million Naira. |
The Northern caucus started this dangerous development. This outcome was to be expected. |
Gbawe: No!! Clout is far from all that is required. Intelligence is a field in itself, putting an untrained persorn in such a sensitive post might be like asking a mechanic to do a doctors job. Intelligence is not something that can be left to trial and error or "cut and sew". Gusau is a tested hand that has extensive training / experience in the field. |
mbulela:This guy is small fry na! Let us see whether there will be more action now with Mukhtar gone. And this time, not any kain small fry. |
No country can develop without steelworks and steel plants. Truth is Ajaokuta is already too small to serve Nigeria, but it is a start. The painful fact is that Ajaokuta was planned and built decades ago along with Oshogbo Machines Tools. I'm not sure how long ago now, 20 - 30 years? Thats how much time we have lost to corruption and ineptitude in that sector. |
Jonathan resuscitates Ajaokuta steel, NIOMCO Latest News Mar 9, 2010 By Oscarline Onwuemenyi ABUJA – The Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, may have chosen to breathe new life into the moribund national steel complex of Ajaokuta Steel Company Ltd and the National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe, with the approval for the re-operationalisation of both entities. Disclosing the Acting President’s decision in a briefing in Abuja, yesterday, the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, said government has made available about N650 million for the resuscitation of completed units of both entities. According to her, the units include a portion of the Thermal Power Plant, the light section rolling mill and the wire rod mill, the engineering workshops at ASCL, and the Bergeaud Plant, as well as minimal mining operations and processing at the NIOMCO. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/03/09/jonathan-resuscitates-ajaokuta-steel-niomco/ |
Quoting Tanko Yakassai is the same as quoting Satan. |
Katsumoto:Tell him. |
bgees:We should never make fun of the dying or the suffering. Yar Adua was always a hostage, just like the country is. My only criticism is the quality of people he surrounded himself with. |
China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited, which was named as technical partners for the preferred bidder during the bid, not only denied any relationship with the consortium, but also from "the preliminary contact with certain potential bidders who proposed to participate in the proposed privatisation" it had "not commenced any negotiations with the relevant parties with respect to any substantive and legally binding agreements," nor has it "participated in any direct discussions or negotiations with any relevant parties involved." This what is called ojoro! Madam Farida, please get on his case. |
Presidency suspends BPE director over NITEL By Bassey Udo The inconclusive bid for the sale of national telecom carrier, Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), has claimed its first casualty. The presidency on Monday evening asked Christopher Anyanwu, the Director General, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), to proceed on an indefinite suspension over what presidency sources called "official misconduct." Mr. Anyanwu was suspended not only for his poor handling of the bid process for the sale of NITEL, but for other official actions as well. The Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the Chairman of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP), was said to be displeased over reports of a welter of controversies that the bid was tainted by several irregularities bordering on lack of transparency and due diligence as well as due process. It was gathered that Mr. Jonathan directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Yayale Ahmed, to issue Mr. Anyanwu with a letter asking him to proceed on the suspension immediately, while demanding explanations from him concerning some other undisclosed official issues. Large scale manipulation Though New Generation Telecommunications Consortium was announced as the preferred bidder with an offer of $2.5billion (about N375billion), one of the bidding companies had petitioned the Presidency alleging a large scale manipulation of the process by the BPE to the disadvantage of the rest of the bidders. China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited, which was named as technical partners for the preferred bidder during the bid, not only denied any relationship with the consortium, but also from "the preliminary contact with certain potential bidders who proposed to participate in the proposed privatisation" it had "not commenced any negotiations with the relevant parties with respect to any substantive and legally binding agreements," nor has it "participated in any direct discussions or negotiations with any relevant parties involved." The same company was also mentioned as technical partner to another company that participated in the bid, in apparent contravention of the bid guidelines which forbade due partnership with participating bidding firms. In spite of the controversy, acting chairman, Technical Committee of the NCP, Taiwo Osipitan, not only recommended that the bid result be ratified, but that the preferred winner should be issued with a confirmation letter, as the transactions followed a "very transparent bid process" in accordance with international best practices and standards. Mr. Anyanwu's suspension is coming ahead of the rescheduled meeting of the NCP billed for today to consider the controversial bid result. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5537813-146/presidency_suspends_bpe_director_over_nitel.csp |

Four heart experts arrive for Yar'Adua By Elor Nkereuwem Four heart specialists from Saudi Arabia have arrived in the country as the health of the ailing president, Umaru Yar'Adua, deteriorated at the weekend, authoritative sources close to the Yar'Adua family said in Abuja yesterday. "The president is facing new health complications needing a fresh set of foreign medical experts to be rushed into Nigeria," said the sources who added that the experts arrived over the weekend to service the critically ill president who hasn't been seen in public since November, 2009. The medical doctors, who came into the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by an EgyptAir flight on Saturday, were promptly cleared on the orders of the chief security officer to the president, Yusuf Tilde. Immigration officers, who spoke to NEXT in confidence, confirmed this. "We were aware of the movement but we offered no clearance to the doctors," a source said. It is believed that this step may not be unconnected to news making the rounds that Mr. Yar'Adua may be moved out of Nigeria following the malfunction of a set of life support equipment shipped into Nigeria in preparation for his return to the country after his 90 day medical vacation in Saudi Arabia. Turai's struggles Meanwhile, the wife of the president, Turai Yar'Adua, is grappling with the realities of the changes in the Presidency. The official residence of the president in the state house, which used to be a beehive of activity, is now ‘like a ghost town', sources in the Presidency revealed. Domestic aides told NEXT that there has also been a clamp down on domestic activities in the home of the president. It appears that most of the duties have now been outsourced. "Even the meals are now brought in from outside," our source said. "The cooks are now idle." This is not going down well Mrs. Yar'Adua, who has complained in many quarters of betrayal and abandonment. Apparently distraught, she spoke to some family associates of the betrayal of former friends, including some former presidents, while accusing the Nigerian media of trying to drive her to a state of delirium with their reports. "See all the bad things that they are now writing about us and about me," she complained to a family friend. "Is it fair? Do these people know God? We leave them to God and their conscience." The health status of the president continues to be shrouded in secrecy as Acting President Goodluck Jonathan and other members of the Executive Council of the Federation have still not been granted access to the president who is believed to be confined to an Intensive Care Unit within the state house. Last week, Godswill Akpabio, the governor of Akwa Ibom, while speaking on behalf of the Governors' Forum, had claimed that the ailing president was ‘recuperating', even though he showed no evidence to support his claims or any indication that any of the governors had seen the critically ill president since he was rushed out of Nigeria almost four months ago. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5537814-146/four_heart_experts_arrive_for_yaradua.csp |

I have to agree. Not only does she have zeal and fire, she is also very intelligent. The problem with us in Nigeria, is that we overlook such gems because of gender. Its a shame. |
Gbawe:Do you think I'm on NL to worship you or something? I have taken enough from you this evening. What is your problem? Britain caused the problem. The country is now unstable, so they can come and pack their property. |
An unstable Nigeria is a nightmare prospect for Western leaders Jonathan Clayton: analysis Though the latest Muslim-Christian killings have nothing to do with Nigeria’s current constitutional crisis, triggered by a long illness to President Umaru Yar’Adua, they illustrate graphically the dangers when drift and dither replace swift decision making. The Christian-dominated Government of Plateau State has yet to explain how warnings of an impending raid by Muslims on Christian villages went unheeded or why security forces were unable to stop the bloodletting quickly. Acting President Goodluck Jonathan will have to act with skill and diplomacy not to inflame a dangerous situation. The northern elites are already smarting at what they see as the seizure of power by a southerner, despite an unwritten agreement to take turns sharing the presidency between north and south. Mr Jonathan, a Christian, comes from the oil-rich Delta region, which feels northerners have already benefited from a resource that has brought little prosperity to the south. Related Links The stand-off paralysed the administration of the country for the past three months while Mr Yar’Adua was being treated in a clinic in Saudi Arabia. The President returned on February 24 but has not resumed any duties. That his return came only a few days after Mr Jonathan was named “acting” President showed, however, that Mr Yar’Adua’s allies were not going to watch as the post slipped from their grasp. More outbreaks of sectarian violence will seriously damage the Government’s image and lead for further calls for change. Few people would like to see a return to military rule, but an unstable Nigeria is a nightmare prospect for both African and Western leaders. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/africa/article7054678.ece |
And your point is? Many of us seem not to understand the difficult position jonathan finds himself now. When you have just 4 of the 36 governors on your side(this even excludes percieved southern progressives like fashola and mimiko), your geopolitical region contributes some of your strongest opposition, you are not from one of the three major tribes, your political party has publicly voiced its unfavourable position, the north sees you as an enemy and has sufficient numbers to pull an impeachment through. Then you will know that its not just the "aluta" approach that will see you through. When you fight a formidable IBB and traditional elements like the Emir that will come as far as to make inflamtory comments on the wrongdoing of the COAS. then you know that having the OBJs,Danjuma and Gusau on your side is not a bad idea afterall. Jonathan will definitely sack a lot of ministers very soon. The PAC is only a smokescreen , he knows those that have erred and will only validate his desires with a comprehensive report. This job is a very delicate hence only a fool will bank on support of faceless men here on NL, who show courage only from the comfort of anonymity. The job requires a proper blend of TACT,MIGHT AND MOST IMPORTANTLY MEEKNESS.
You've said it all. It couldn't be said any clearer. A lot of us forget that we are living in a country we help create with our actions and utterences. Jonathan is the first Southern minority president, that alone cuts his job out, up till now, it has been a wazobia party. Jonathan who is seen as a stranger (especially by the North - read Hausa / Fulani) must be able to bond with all sections of the country without raising suspicion that he is only out to fight a Southern minority agenda and maroon major ethnicities (again, especially the Hausa / Fulani). He has an extremly delicate job to do. I have said it numerous times, it is still the same Jonathan that cleared and sacked every living thing that bore the policies of his predecesor in Bayelsa. If he hasn't done the same in Aso Rock, there are good reasons. Let us not forget that it took OBJ, a military man a full month as unchallenged president before he could make any changes to the military. . . .But as you pointed out, NL is packed with pseudo-knowledgeable folk who strenuously talk bull. . . You know the drill. ![]() Lets at least give the man some room to breath. |
Gunnaz007:Don'tmake things up. The four governors that support Jonathan are; Liyel Imoke(Cross River), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Niger) and Jigawa's Sule Lamido (Jigawa). The rest of the governors, including Fashola, are either a part of or are beholden to the cabal. |
