DonChippy:Impressive! Which makes your bank account and wife mine. . . Interesting. ![]() |
I am quite sure the South South will love an alliance with the Middle Belt. The South South have already shown that strong inter-ethnic aliances are possible even in todays Nigeria. Yes, we have proven that it is possible to be allied on interests as Mikeansy suggested (he's came very late in the day though )It would be a joy to witness handshakes from the north and south of Lokoja, South South already have relations with the Middle Belt through Agenebode and the Weppa Wanno so no biggie. An alliance would be most welscomed. |
iwefactria:Question: Did you demonstrate? Have you taken part in the fight for your rights? |
Boboribo:Perhaps he is slow. But he is fighting principalities and powers almost single handedly, he has been building up his own power base outside of the cabal (eg the 26 man advisory council which Danjuma is part of that). You will recall that the governors and PDP were upset because he did not consult them in forming the advisory council (who the Bleep do they think they are?). Also, yesterday he locked the Minister of Defence and the FCT Minister out of the swearing in of his advisory council for being late. Jonathan might be slow (which can be annoying), but taking time a being deliberate does not equate to being ineffective. Lets give him a week or two before coming to any conclusions. |
nurexg:As edoyad said, please define precisely who these "North" is and why they are best suited to rule over others. |
The easiest way to kill this ethnic jingoistic rubbish is privatise the NNPC and make it compete against other oil companies for market share. After that we will see how 86% rapidly becomes 0%. NNPC and the oil sector must be privatised in ways that lead to equity. No section of the country can be seen to be slaving for others. |
"Northern interest". |
86% new NNPC top managers are northerners Friday, 05 March 2010 01:21 Max Amuchie .User Rating: / 3 •Appointed by Barkindo No fewer than 86 percent of top management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) appointed by the Mohammed Barkindo-led management is from the northern part of the country. At the last rejig of personnel at the state oil company which was preceded by the retirement of some people, 14 new top management staff were appointed by Barkindo into the positions of group executive directors, group general managers, managing directors of subsidiaries and managers. Out of this number, only two positions were allocated to people of southern extraction, representing 14 percent of the top management. The Group Executive Director, corporate services, is Attahiru Yusuf while Auwalu Abubakar is Group General Manager, human resources. The new general manager, human resources is Hajia M. Sanni with I. M. Bawa clinching the position of general manager, administration services. There are several other positions occupied by northerners to the detriment of other sections of the country. For instance, the group general manager in charge of crude oil is Farouk Bello, also a northerner. Two other executive directors, Alhaji Farouk and Alhaji Babangida for commercial and corporate services respectively, are northerners. In addition, one Alhaji Yola is the general manager in charge of crude oil shipping while his counterpart in procurement is also a northerner. He is one Alhaji Lamido while a woman, Hajia Yahuza is manager responsible for central transportation. A southerner was appointed manager in administration department while Reginald Stanly, managing director of Pipelines Products Marketing Company (PPMC), was also appointed by Barkindo. Jeddy Agba, appointed general manager by Barkindo is said to be partially north and partially south but leans more to the north. It has been said that what holds Nigeria together is oil. It is the natural resource that keeps the Nigerian economy running and it is the single product that accounts for over 90 percent of Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings. The NNPC, established in 1977 on the ashes of the Nigerian National Oil Corporation (NNOC), is the behemoth that runs the oil industry. The office of Group Managing Director of NNPC is a very influential one. Below that office, there are other positions that are of strategic importance. On January 13, 2009, Barkindo was appointed Group Managing Director to replace Abubakar Yar’Adua, an engineer, who became helmsman when his namesake, the president came to power in 2007. But he failed to keep his promise to revive the nation’s refineries. It is elementary knowledge that oil is produced in the Niger Delta, a region that has become a hotbed of agitation to right the wrongs of several years of neglect and environmental degradation. The goose that lays the golden egg has always been short-changed in the scheme of things especially when the oil sector is involved. The Niger Delta produces oil but is not part of the decision making in the oil industry. To bolster the confidence of Barkindo and give him support is Riwanu Lukman, who himself is a rabid ethno-centrist. The combination of Lukman and Barkindo has not done much to make the job of Odein Ajumogobia, minister of state for petroleum, easier. The Federal Character Commission has turned a blind eye to the northernisation of the commanding positions in NNPC. If the establishment is still alive to its responsibilities, it would have intervened to address the audacious lopsidedness in the appointment of top personnel in favour of the north. At the a time that Niger Delta militants are being courted to embrace peace, such brazen neglect of other areas in the composition of the top management has the potentials to scuttle the amnesty programme. http://www.businessdayonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9031:86-new-nnpc-top-managers-are-northerners&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=18 |
These folk have only demanded a state because they can. No sensible reason was put forward. |
I will add a third thing to my list above. It is that blaming Jonathan for being weak is the same as looking in the mirror and denying that the reflection is ours. We have Yar Adua, Jonathan (still early) and the cabal because we are weak. We are weak and directionless, physically, mentally and morally. Like I asked earlier; Are those in countries where the people have risen and won the fight for their rights more human than us? |
Gbawe:I have been dissapointed from quite long ago, but the fight had a totally different target then (stopping the dangerous drift of the country), at that point in time, constituitional change was of overwhelming priority; anything else was a diversion and the same as cheering the cabal on. Naturally, I was insulted at being labelled in certain ways simply because I am from the ND like Jonathan (Nigeria and ND interests are very separate and different things). Don't put people in boxes because it suits a particular position you support. Lets get beyond these arguments. @topic I feel that, at this point, two things must be the major focus of Nigerians; 1. like Danjuma did, we should encourage Jonathan to very firmly wear the boots of authority 2. of paramount importance, ensure that Jonathan implements the Uwais recommendations for electoral reform and leaves a legacy of free and fair elections Thorough and complete electoral reform is essential to our getting the right set of people in power, instead of vultures, jobbers and their hangers on. That is the only way we can set the country on the right path to development, individual fulfilment and equity. It is the responsibility of each and every Nigerian to focus intensely and totally on this one task at the present time. If we must act, let it be for electoral reform; if we must pray, let us pray for electoral reform; if we must be cowardly, let us ensure that our last cry is for electoral reform; if we must pass the buck to our neighbour who can fight better, let us make sure they are fighting for electoral reform. Let our focus be unswerving. It might be the only thing Jonathan can deliver, international help has already been offered to him, lets provide local help and support. Looking to 2011 without setting a solid foundation will only be doing the same old thing and expecting a different result. |
edoyad:I honestly didn't believe I would get a single response to this article, because it is about introspection. You must be one of the few quality Nigerians left. ![]() |
Minister of Defence? Locked out? ![]() Damn! FEC has really been replaced! |
1. Jonathan has sacked zero people for treachery, taken baby steps and recycled some old rancid fellows as advisers. 2. The average Nigerian is praying to God and waiting for someone else to fight for them, their wives and their children (is this you?). Aside from the Save Nigeria Group, most Nigerians are washed out failures that do not have the courage and strength of personality to admit it, take stock , sieze the moment and turn things around. Look around, all the signs you see are signs of failure and the ruins of common sense; PHCN, NNPC, Yar'Adua, lack of law and due process, mediocrity. . . How can you sleep through this? Are those in countries where the people have risen and won the fight for their rights more human than us? In what constructive ways can the few quality Nigerians left be mobilised to move the nation and themselves forward? How do we plant a new seed? |
^ It makes a lot of sense, the South South is made up of minorities who are largely Christian just like the Middle Belt; therefore, alliances would be natural and welcome. |
On the 25th September 1918, Lord Lugard wrote to his colleague Walter H. Lang: "The Hausa-Fulani has no ideals, no ambitions save such as sensual in character. He is a fatalist, spendthrift and a gambler. He is gravely immoral and is seriously diseased that he is a menace to any community to which he seeks to attach himself". So much for the gift of 'natural leadership'! Please, Adamu Adamu, tell us something we don't know, instead of peddling rubbish that insults our intelligence. When did it become fashionable to quote Lugard? |
msb247:All almajiri's, fools and tribalistic worshipers said amen. . . While sensible people, instead ask how many low IQ lies Yar Adua's captors will feed us. |
Idi Mamuda, National President of the Northern Youth Progressive in a chat with Vanguard declare that Goodluck Jonathan had within the very week of his acting capacity displayed ‘ethnic agenda’ through his actions and pronouncements.Aondoakaa was reshuffled and that annoys the North? Very telling words. These basta'rds pretend to be fighting for a non-existent "Northern interest", whereas they deliberately keep their people poverty stricken, malnourished, hungry and iliterate; while they shovel stolen money in their pockets. Northerners are better off understanding that these people are there to suck their blood, while claiming that Southerners are the enemy. It is easy to decieve those they have deliberately kept iliterate. There is always a ready store of almajiri's to unleash on innocent Southerners at any time. Southerners are not the problem, rather Northern leaders are everyones problem. |
As it is stands today, the North is unified against Jonathan’s acting Presidency, and may employ the services of reactionary elements within the larger group to prosecute the war. Head or tail Nigeria has to watch it to avoid the express way to Kigali.Racists like Tanko Yakasai needto be told who foots their bills. We have been through so much bull in this country in the last four months, yet there are still clowns up North running around and making explosive statements, yet their kinsmen do not call them to order; silence they say, is acquiescence. Jonathan should order all troops to their home states. Let us rewind 1966 and see who will win this time. |
Let nobody say, the issues Jonathan is facing are not the result a tribalistic war by those claiming to be "Northern leaders". Let nobody say the intrigues we have seen are not a tribalistic reaction to Jonathan. Call a spade, a spade. It is a dangerous situation that must be met head on. |

chidichris:Mistake. Ibori is one the cabals main players. He hasalways operatesd at a federal level, which is why Aondoakaa made several trips abroad to frustrate foreign justice systems. |
Yar'Adua's handlers, his brother, Turai, Fhemmy and Beaf, are not Yar'Adua. Yar'Adua is the most decent human being that has ever become Nigeria's ruler in the past 35 years at least. if you have evidence to the contrary, please present it.
You need to explain your position, because Nigeria is falling apart under his watch. I already said I am tempted to believe that he might have been a good man. The thing that really shatters that conception is the sort of people he hung out with. How did he come to be with such people if he wasn't like them or is it that he has always been too weak healthwise? |
@ndu_chucks I am tempted by the "Yar'Adua is a good guy" thing, but wisdom says; "birds of a feather, flock together". How come, everybody he is sorrounded wth seems to be obnoxious? Even his own elder brother didn't support his governorhip bid (he initially threw his considerable influence behind someone else), because he wondered if the governorship was really Turai's dream. |
