PoliticsTinubu's Supreme Court Victory, A Sad Day For Nigeria, The Way Forward by Bebigiby1(op):
When Mahmood the INEC Chairman told Dino at the collation center during the presidential election to "Go To Court" I guess now we understand what he meant by that statement. The Supreme court judges today has once again dispelled any doubt that Nigerians may have on them doing the right thing by validating illegality and a criminal as Nigeria's president. It is glaring that what was read today as judgement was pre-made, packaged and cooked up presentation by the government. The fact that Judges blatantly swept the CSU forged document under the carpet on live television before the world is a great injustice to the Nigerian people. Even though the judge based his decision on the 180 days allowed for fresh evidence as been immutable, it still doesn't negate the fact that 180 days can be extended since the new CSU forgery evidence was already before the court. This judicial betrayal by the supreme court judges shows how weak our institutions including the Judiciary are today. There is no doubt that even if the CSU evidence was presented within the stipulated 180 days, these supreme court Judges will find another reason to dismiss it....Nigerians should understand that our Justice system that produced Akpabio and Lawal as Senators (Two men who didn't contest as candidates in the 2023 senatorial elections) can not be trusted, in fact our Judicial arm of government just like the INEC et al is another lapdog of the ruling APC party.... Indeed, Buhari's evil government did major damage to this country..... For Ganduje the dollar man to be sleeping in court today tells you all you need to know about our judiciary.... you can see him and Gbaja below having a nice time....

This judgement in favor of Tinubu and APC against the overwhelming evidence of perjury and forgery which should automatically disqualify Tinubu is a verdict on Nigeria........ With what that happened today, Nigeria's fate is sealed as a failed nation devoid of morals or dignity..... Tinubu's win at the supreme court is a boost for criminality and everything bad in Nigeria.... Students can now proceed to forge academic records without any consequences.... politicians vying for political office can present forged documents to INEC and win election without any consequences.... Tinubu's victory at the supreme court is the final nail to the death of our constitution and what is left of our moral compass as a nation..... If Nigerians don't protest this injustice done to them then it is a sign of acceptance and we have no reason to complain when labelled as a failed nation or evil nation..... It is also glaring that there is nothing left to hold on to as far as Nigeria's international image is concerned.....

Above all, one major lesson that we all can learn from today's judgement is that Nigeria's electoral system flaws is foundational.... The truth is that no one can clearly prove who wins a presidential election except INEC and if INEC is compromised then there is no way to upturn the results since it is the custodian of electoral materials and evidence.... We may not be able to redeem Nigeria in it's current form but we can chart a new future for it.....There is need to restructure our political landscape.... To forestall against such widespread injustice and create opportunity for good people to lead, there must be a deliberate effort to push for a decentralised system of government and this cannot happen until Nigerians, especially the youths do away with tribal and religious sentiments.

It is almost over for Nigeria..... This APC government has indeed destroyed what is left of our public institutions.... A SAD DAY INDEED....

As a result, subsidy spending induced a huge debt. On top of the debt we had from being forced to take loans due to low oyel prices.
Now we cannot pay for subsdies ...for oil to be subsidised to say N40 per liter...because we do not have the money.
You speak as if you've not been in Nigeria for the past 8 years..... Can't you see that the total figure the government dished out over the years as subsidy payments was inflated? Can you also not see that some of the funds were looted in the name fuel subsidy by NNPC and others in powerful places within Buhari's government... Even if truly our national spending on subsidy rose as a result of increase in oil price why is it that the government continues to shy away from auditing the NNPC over the years and make genuine effort to determine the actually amount of fuel Nigerians consume per month or annually.... Subsidy regime was a cash cow for those in government because most of the figures we are been presented with are cooked up as a result of deep rooted corruption within the system.... it was a looting bazaar....

You said "The truth is, Tinubu is being forced by circumstance to make hard choices. Choices we should have made years ago (and yes, it is partly his fault why we did not make those choices.)......." I do not agree as Tinubu's legacy is everything wrong with our society, he should be the last person to become Nigeria's president especially in this critical times so even if there are tough decisions to be made, he is not the right person to make these decisions... The fact that he was part of those who frustrated Jonathan effort to remove fuel subsidy shows that he does not mean well for this country...... Removing Tinubu as president is the best thing that can happen to Nigeria because justice will be served.... The process through which we choose our leaders matters and this goes a long way in attracting foreign investments we need as a nation.... No sensible investor will invest under this criminal government and a dying economy.... Tinubu's unguarded removal of fuel subsidy and CSU forgery revelation have caused major damage to the country's economy and international image. It may take years of consistent good government policies to restore hope and genuine development to this country.... It will be callous for supreme court judges to validate crime by ruling in favour of Tinubu.... Posterity will judge them harshly.....

nairalanda1:
I like the idea of a revolution...but the new revolutionary government would still face the same thing. High debt servicing thanks to years of low oil prices forcing us to take a loan.

So, nothing is going to change.

Russia in 1917, did a 'revolution'. So, Russians lived a nice life, eh? In my opinion, it took until the 1960's before the USSR had a standard of living that did not involve famine or war.

The truth is, Tinubu is being forced by circumstance to make hard choices. Choices we should have made years ago (and yes, it is partly his fault why we did not make those choices.).

If GEJ had removed subsides in 2012 totally, by now we would hav elong since been over the worst. He did not, here we are. Ditto Buhari in 2015/6. Buhari wanted to be elected.

As a result, subsidy spending induced a huge debt. On top of the debt we had from being forced to take loans due to low oyel prices.

Now we cannot pay for subsdies ...for oil to be subsidised to say N40 per liter...because we do not have the money.

BusinessRe: FG Outlaws Black Market FOREX Transactions by Bebigiby1:
You can't outlaw black market as it is driven by market forces of demand and supply. The incompetence of the government and financial institutions to provide FX for SMEs, manufacturers and the general public created the parallel market. This nonsense policy just like the rest will further destroy this economy and cause massive unemployment. Above all it is clear that the major driver of rapid devaluation of our currency is not parallet market but fuel subsidy, servicing of foreign loans and reckless spending of this government just like the one before it looted by politicians. Why will Nigerians continue to bear the brunt of this incompetent government.? The corrupt national assembly are also not left out in adding to the FX crisis and recently we all witnessed how they each got imported cars worth over N160 million....including corrupt CBN officials and bankers involved in racketeering and dollar round tripping....

Naira currency can only appreciate in value if there is a deliberate effort to look inwards, stop reckless borrowing of foreign loans, stop excessively looting of public funds, invest in stable electricity, refine fuel locally (Government must build and operate at least one refinery) and reduce the cost of government by dissolving duplicate ministries, parastatals and pubic offices including reducing the number of senators, reps and ministers as current system of government is bloated and too expensive.

This news is another disaster that will accelerate job losses especially in the manufacturing sector....
PoliticsNaira Over N1250 To Dollar, Tinubu's Deliberate Sabotage Of Nigeria's Economy by Bebigiby1(op):
When all is said and done, it will be Nigerians that will bear the consequences of Tinubu's evil government....

Many social media influencers supporting the rapid devaluation of our currency are making the argument about local export benefiting from a free fall of the Naira. It is unfortunate that people like Reno Omokri as educated as he is, can't understand basic economics as relates to Nigeria. There is no economic benefit to a weak devalued Naira as Nigeria is majorly an import driven economy. The infrastructural deficit as regards high cost of reliable electricity, transportation et al will erode any competitive advantage if you produce locally in Nigeria.... Naira currency must appreciate in value to enable any sensible government stabilise the economy and this can be achieved if there is a deliberate effort to look inwards, stop reckless borrowing of foreign loans, stop excessively looting of public funds, invest in stable electricity, refine fuel locally (Government must build and operate at least one refinery) and reduce the cost of government by dissolving duplicate ministries, parastatals and pubic offices including reducing the number of senators, reps and ministers.... as our current system of government is bloated and too expensive......

When the Naira was 700 to a $1, many foolish people on this forum and within the country were foaming at the mouth, insulting other sensible Nigerians who spoke out against the dangers and criminality that plagued Tinubu's presidential ascension and appointments. These people who are mostly of Yoruba descent spread hatred among other Nigerians especially igbos mocking and wishing that they die of pain over Peter Obi's loss at the presidential election, saying it was their turn to rule.... The usual nepotistic sentiments that installed Buhari another bad leader as president for the past eight years, who led us to where we are today....

We are now 5 months into Tinubu's presidency and Nigeria's economy is on the brink of total collapse.... a hopeless situation where unemployment is on the rise.... price of goods and services is on the rise.... petrol price per litre is on the rise.... insecurity is on the rise..... corruption and looting is on the rise..... kidnapping is on the rise.... terrorism is on the rise..... everything bad seem to be on the rise while Tinubu is busy with his nepotistic appointments and reckless foreign loans borrowing policies (Continuing from where Buhari stopped).... Nigerians have never had it this bad since independence, it is now clear that this government is bent on destroying this country. In 2012, when Jonathan's government removed subsidy, many Nigerians including Tinubu marched in protest and demanded an immediate reversal of the policy even though Jonathan's administration had a better plan for the country and naira was N180 to $1, today with the terrible state of the economy and existence of an incompetent, reckless and evil government, why are Nigerians not protesting? Why have we decided to be docile and insensitive even to our own detriment? As it stands, we may not have a country by December if nothing is done to stop the astronomical rise in our currency value against dollar..... I will reiterate again that Tinubu's APC government will destroy this country if allowed to continue.... All well-meaning Nigerians and patriots must rise and save this nation before it is too late.... We have no other country but Nigeria.... by the time dollar hits N2000, it is only a matter of time before total break down of law and order with criminals looting shops and killing people everywhere..... Nigerians must rise above tribal and religious sentiments..... we must demand for the right things to be done..... Tinubu must go and the evil government dissolved to restore hope.... We know he didn't win the 2023 presidential election.... we know he lied under oath.... we know he forged documents.... we know he has a criminal past.... we cannot allow this evil to continue if we must save this nation.... Tinubu and APC must go so that we can live....

You're a critical thinker.... this is what Nairaland should be, a place where ideas are debated and not the Yoruba vs Igbo tribal nonsense it has turned out to be....

Regarding your submissions, you're right.... "For an economy CAN NEVER develop by its citizens OUTSOURCING their means of livelihood. And the three core, mass employment and wealth creating sectors, Nigeria is opportuned to have at the moment are CONSTRUCTION, MINING AND AGRICULTURE...."

It would've been great if those we call leaders can expose themselves on public forums like this to debate and defend their policies.... Maybe some of the points you raised and great ideas made by other Nairaland users will be implemented..... But unfortunately these politicians are not interested in genuine development that will benefit the people.... The loans are going to be embezzled by Tinubu and his cronies just like Buhari's regime and other governments before him..... a vicious cycle that is about to destroy this country....

Reference:
It is now that the true test of leadership, of capacity to govern will be exposed.
If the ideas, the ways and means of this economic journey are similar to that of the past administration(s), won't the outcome, the result be the same?
Don't we think we ought to be doing something radical, something completely different to obtain a different result and a clean break from the past?

For example. Can we bond (real bond, not cash bonds) out our needs to the citizens of this country, that is the things we presently employ cash credit for. So that the options lie ahead whether government will be willing to let go of those assets if they cannot pay back.

Another example. I was listening to the airwaves this morning about the proposed PWC intervention in the mining sector geared towards restructuring it and with a view to 'attracting foreign investment'.

Foreign investment to do what exactly? To turn Nigeria mining to another cut and run enterprise?, to expand the saying that Africa is just a raw material supplier??.

For I cannot understand what investment is needed in mining as an industrial practice that is beyond our present capacity and my suspicion is that they intend to issue licenses to large multinationals who will come in, strip these minerals, export them on a cheap and leave the communities and the vast majority of the citizens in penury and conflict while creating cartels and enriching the very government officials who issue the permits; just like we have seen for 60 years in the oil and gas industry.

My own idea of a mining industry (which is a key sector in job creation and the fight against poverty) is to get individual citizens (trained and tooled into licensed cooperatives) and small businesses doing the physical activity of extracting these minerals and the role of government will be to regulate access, establish a financial market, that is an commodity exchange of sorts where stable prices and a ready market is guaranteed.

The role of foreign investment should then be limited to THE PROCESSING, the upper tier of the value chain, to turn these ores and minerals into tradeable goods and articles.

NO foreign enterprise should be permitted exclusively to dig or drill the ground in Nigeria anymore and we should begin to move away from the export of raw materials to the processing of same and the manufacture of articles thereof.

For an economy CAN NEVER develop by its citizens OUTSOURCING their means of livelihood. And the three core, mass employment and wealth creating sectors, Nigeria is opportuned to have at the moment are CONSTRUCTION, MINING AND AGRICULTURE.

We have done enough damage to our construction sector for example by constantly outsourcing key projects, mass projects to foreign concerns and that is why we have not developed onshore capacity, technologies, competencies, standards, values, sustainable jobs and wealth out of it despite the trillions of dollars spent of construction of all kinds since independence. We have NO local construction industry.

PoliticsTinubu's New EFCC Chairman, Another Tribal Political Gambit by Bebigiby1(op):
President Tinubu appoints Mr. Ola Olukoyede as new EFCC Chairman....

Against the widespread outcry of Nigerians over the disgraceful tribal sentiment that has plagued Tinubu's political appointments. The president has once again dispelled any hopes of uniting the nation by appointing another Yoruba man Ola Olukoyede into another key position, this time around as the EFCC chairman. This calculated attempt by Tinubu and his cronies to tribalize the executive arm of government should bother Nigerians as this is another attempt to further the divide and rule agenda that Buhari started. Since 1999, Nigerians have never been so divided along ethnic lines like we are seeing today.... Tinubu is bent on continuing on this destructive path by appointing his kinsmen and tribal champions in flagrant disregard of the prinple of federal character established to guide appointment of public officers. This tribal sentiments will consume this nation if nothing is done to stop it. You can already see some of its effects even on this online forum.... These malicious political actors have been deployed to continue to sow seeds of discord and tribal division among Nigerians on Nairaland.... For those rejoicing over these lopsided appointments, it is indeed shameful that many Nigerians of Yoruba descent have failed to see the big picture and instead decided to be used as willing tools even to their own detriment..... How have these appointments made Nigeria's economy better? As a Yoruba man or woman are you buying fuel at N180 per litre or paying cheaper transport fare? The answer is NO.... Instead of rejoicing, you should be crying because these tribal champions occupying these positions will offer nothing to Nigerians.... Until we collectively push for a merit system when it comes to public office appointments, Nigeria will not move forward as a nation.....

It is sad that many countries have since left Nigeria behind in terms of infrastructural and human development, we continue to fight each other over tribe while corruption, looting and incompetence remains deeply rooted in our polity..... Can Ola Olukoyede as EFCC chairman prosecute Tinubu without fear or favour (The man who appointed him not because of his competence but because of tribe) in the event Tinubu is found guilty by the supreme court? We already know the answer to that question..... Ola Olukoyede's appointment is another Tinubu's yorubanization agenda.... another dangerous precedence....

The national assembly can do more in an event like this. Since the CSU has released the document and it is public knowledge that the certificate submitted to INEC is fake based on original document published by CSU then there is no way you will say Tinubu is innocent. As we type on Nairaland the whole world is laughing at Nigeria.... there is no time for court hearings as this is not the time for trivialities or unnecessary excuses, our legislators can save this nation from further embarrassment by doing the needful....

axponline:
Because there is due process that must be followed. Its not automatic.
Notethe following

1. Under the constitution, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. So despite what folks may think or say about forged certificates, Mr Tinubu is presumed innocent until found guilty of forgery.

2. To be found guilty of forgery, a person with locust standi must file a suit of forgery at the High Court. Supreme court will not hear a case of forgery that has not passed through the lower courts. Its not enough to make allegations at the supreme court hearings.

3. The high court case must be completed with a guilty verdict before this can be useful anywhere

4. The constitution also says that a siting president is immune from prosecution. i.e how do you file a forgery case against a sitting president. It cant be done. You must wait until he is defeated in 2027 or if he is not defeated he has served his second term before anyone can bring a case of forgery against him.

If a case of forgery is brought against him now , the court will throw it out because he is immune to prosecution be virtue of being a sitting president.

Do not be deceived, the on going supreme court hearings is not the place to bring charges of forgery.

I hope I am right in my analysis. Lawyers pls verify.

You all will pay dearly for what you're doing.... Continue to support evil.... You will face the injustice you dish out on others..... If any of you run a business I know that none of you will employ a certificate forger as a cleaner in your offices but here you are betraying your country..... You will pay dearly in due time.....
