Thanks for this. I intend using tubular batteries for now, which brand and capacity is recommended? justasitis: The wattage you indicated for the Refrigerator is not quite clear, but 1.2kw/24hrs = 50W/hr
Total loads = 310W/hr *6, that’s approximately 2kwh You can go for a 1.5KVA 12V Hybrid Inverter + 4Kwh LifePo4 Battery, 450W Jinko panel *3 or 4. |

Your feeling ain't wrong, this quote is for a normal in situ POP casting and installation. I'm surprised that the food/water the labourers will eat/drink and even the clothes they'll wear during the period of working for you are not included in the quote. If not, why would the work tools every POP installer should have be also included in the quote? You will know what to do after the professional POP guys here make their comments. Celepope: Hello House, This is a quote I got for a gypsum board ceiling. I see it as being weird with the amount of bags of PoP in the quote. I was expecting to see profiles and some other materials needed for Gypsum board. The person looking over the site don’t want me to have the direct contact of the person that drew this quote (Person that will do it) I feel they want to go ahead to do a PoP instead of a Gypsum ceiling being that I’m not around and I might not know what was done. Is there a way I can get a rough estimate of materials needed for Gypsum board ceiling considering the square meter (519) involved so that I can confront them with the materials that will be needed?. |

Professionals in the house kindly weigh in on this: I visited a location recently and I noticed something about the houses there: The older houses look sturdier and without traces of wall dampness but on most of the recent builds (a friend's own inclusive), you notice the walls are being attacked by different levels of dampness even though measures such as higher ground clearance and DPM installation were taken to curb such. I began to wonder: on the recent builds, asides poor workmanship, could the materials especially cement being produced nowadays also lacking in quality? The house I visited was built in the early 2000s and the landlord confirmed that most of the houses built around the same period didn't do DPC (German floors) and DPCs weren't installed either. |

I'm just imagining the cost of iron rods and other materials that would be involved in the new concrete beam... The project owner's financial muscle really strong o. I commot cap for am. Anyway, what needs to be done should be done in order to have the best outcome. Well-done Engr! spyder880: Good afternoon my people, we should have been done with this foundation, but it looks like this foundation height will need to be adjusted upwards. Our plan is to raise the foundation height by adding a line of blocks to this existing top concrete beam, then top the new height with a new concrete beam before we now cast the foundation DPC.
I will update you all on how we are doing this. |

We are now doing a Total of 14 coaches excluding the decking beam which will make it 15 coaches before the decking slab.
This is our standard. And it gives us a very nice headroom for POP finishing when the time comes. What measures are you going to put in place to prevent under-deck POP ceiling collapse as we have been reading in the news lately? |

All you heard and was told are the correct answers to your enquiries. However, I wouldn't know why you need bulletproof doors for the externals. A good welder can fabricate a minimalist design for you, but don't forget to mention that it should be double panelled and the void in between filled with sawdust or whatever material they use so as to make it sturdy and soundless when shut. Weldone. edmasta01: Does anyone know what the best type of door is good for internal and external doors?
EXTERNAL: I have been told of Turkey doors. Metal Doors etc. I really only want a simple/minimalist design (without too much patterns) door that is strong and secured. I want this door for both front/back doors and the kitchen exit.
What about bullet proof doors? is there any benefit to this at all?
INTERNAL Doors: I hear there is MDF or HDF which can be used for internal doors.
Also, does anyone have advise on which kind of door is good for bathrooms? I hear PVC doors are good.
Any advise please? |

Bros, I'll go with your dad's advice if I were you. Sell it off even if at a loss. Or better still, balance the equation between your both parents - demolish the whole structure and build from the scratch. This may be more costly but your peace of mind matters. Ayohbk: Thanks for your feedback. The engineer gave a list of all the certifications and payment we have to do before we start the renovation. We are the ones going to Labca for approval, which is the last item on the engineers list. Also the certifications stated in your document we've done that too based on the recommendation of the engineer. But it's the engineer that did all the runnings, we just gave him the money. He then forwarded the certificates and documents. But I'm not sure how genuine the testings are, maybe they just collect money and give certificate. The engineer is a certified engineer, according to him and the title in the documents. |

fohiss: Thanks for your response and advice... The block has already be moulded (on ground), the bricklayer said their normal day work is to work with 100 blocks but they can do double shifts which will now make it working with 200 blocks per day... To work with 100 blocks per day cost 12k, so doing double shifts is now 12*2 which now make it 24k.... And he said he will bring two service boys to assist him and they will take 6k each per day which now makes it (6*2)=12 so to do double shifts both of dem will now share 24k.... So per day both the bricklayer and the service boys will take 48k as workmanship.... But all materials to work with is on me .....
The other guy said I will give him 1.3M.. as workmanship and all materials to be used will also be on me ... This is why I did my calculations and I discovered that the daily pay job is far more cheaper @Diordaves' advice is very clear and that's the usual practice - i.e. charge per block laid (in this case he stated N100 depending on your bargaining power and what's obtainable in your location). If your negotiation is based on per block laid, the builder's talk about 100 or 200 blocks per day, number of shifts, number of helpers... would not be your business. |

@ rotecch77, if I were you, I would apologize or rather cease making further comments related to this under the guise that you're advertising your services. That your first comment was unnecessary and ill-timed even though you ended it wishing the client well.
@ floshady02, so sorry for your ordeal with the artisan especially this time that every dime matters. Most of these artisans don't know that the building journey by a client is not just about the money but also that there is a set time-line for the achievement of every milestone and when there's a delay or setback it leads to frustration and mental stress. I have this feeling that you will find him and recover every bit of your fund and if recovery is proving difficult, go to his jiji page and drop the appropriate review. You can also contact your bank on how to go about recalling your funds - this will force him out of his hiding. I'm currently having my own share from a sneaky plumber (a man older than me who I felt I should help but his attitude is tempting me to shout at him). Finally, (just an opinion) please tone down your invectives. You shall smile in the end.
@ Billions123, that your method has worked and is working for me after I fired the so-called contractor that started my project. The window guy whom I trusted to a certain level brought the tiler (his brother), the screeder (his inlaw) and they delivered without issues. The mason got me the POP installer, carpenter and well digger. The plumber I got myself from my workplace is the one falling my hands now...lol |

A million thanks to you Gbadexy for the constant enlightenment on the topic of wall finishing. The binder you mentioned, is it what screeders call screeding gum? Secondly, what mixing ratio would you recommend of the various constituents of screeding, assuming a 100sqm internal wall using POP cement? gbadexy: Tendency of cement screeding after some years. I understand some still like it but it's my duty to enlighten clients on the possibility especially if necessary additional binder wasn't sufficiently added and what step to take just to be on a safer side. Anyone meticulous about appearance would have to rescreed and repaint. I was just discussing with a nairalander and he said the satin used in his previous build shows the wall when stain is cleaned with cloth and water. I told him I was going to post that on nairaland to enlighten those that may not be aware and think that is normal that satin should wash off with cleaning. Regal paint matte emulsion doesn't even wash off with cleaning. Be sure of what you are getting especially if coat is unreasonably low compared to any good similar products. |

Thanks for this. gbadexy: I'm sure you would have come across my opinion about using cement screeding and it's demerits. I've mentioned it severally here and still did so a few post back. You can use basecoat for the internal and external screeding but one of good brand or quality with strong bonding. You may use cement and pop emulsion paint also but with sufficient bond to prevent cracking and peeling later. Also use good primer before painting to reduce excessive paint consumption. I can't say for pop whether pop cement and emulsion can work but basecoat can give you the light skimming effect on it. |

@ Gbadexy: Thanks for your selfless and invaluable contributions to this forum. Please I have some few enquiries to make: What materials would you recommend for the screeding of the following? 1. Plastered internal walls 2. Plastered external walls 3. Installed POP ceilings (even though the installer claimed it was screeded with POP cement but the surface still looks too rough for my liking). |

JustCryptos: Permit me to wade in here. This is what happens when people jump on the bandwagon without knowing the intricacies of a system.
Are there solar guys that don't know jack about the trade? Absolutely yes! Does solar work effectively? Yes too.
I have been 100% off-grid for the past 3 years - no nepa light, no generator. My system is not very expensive but I haven't had a blackout of up to 10 days in the past 3 years.
What does my system carry - 2 deep freezers, iron, pumping machine, fans, virtually everything. People jump on the solar bandwagon, proceed to misuse the system, and them complain that solar is bad.
Start by calculating your load requirement, ask the right questions, and go for people that know their onions. I believe you 💯! Have you not observed how the rooftop of most banks are covered with solar panels in recent times? They are known for their plenty "chilly" ACs and several computers. I believe the solar system must be serving them. |
