We will have pillars, block pillars.
I guess it's those blocks you crossed that will form the block pillars, are you going to fill them with concrete?

Is there no need for pillars at intervals along the length of the fence?

@ Bakin3, this is your call.

dapotemi:
Pls house, have been reading about this bio-Digester soakaway... Pls what are the pros and cons? Would you recommend it against the conventional soakaway? I am yet to see any of you talk about it or even try it, or recommend it for your client. What do you all think about it? Can you recommend it? @next @Egunmogaji @spyder etc

Bros na wa for you o, can't you just read and pass by any thread without pasting something on it? We all know about your unbeatable bio digester from the general discussion building forum, but you still carry the advert follow men come backyard. grin

Bakin3:
Call for your Bio Digester(Modern Soakaway) construction . It's an improved technology in the treatment and management of human waste and wastewater. This system effectively takes away all challenges that are associated with the conventional form of waste management.

Once you have it in place,

✔you no longer call trucks to come evacuate human waste,
✔ No odour
✔it doesn't attract flies or crokroaches,
✔just a small space is needed for it,
✔it's eco-friendly
✔and doesn't contaminate the groundwater

I guess this pic's what Egunmogaji2 was talking about, done by Muyi and shared here. I did something similar but do not have it's pic and had to save this image for reference purpose.

Since you are building on a budget, adopt what you see on this image and ensure a DPM (what the layman calls polyethylene or leather) is spread on the blocks before the concrete is applied.

A very good friend went through the rigours of doing a German floor but without laying a DPM because he felt the ground was dry and stable. It failed, as one could still see rising damp on certain parts of the building wall.
Wish you speed in your project.

nannymcphee:
Against the counsel of N3xt & the house I didnt do pillars(sad face)

My foundation concrete was 3" thick

Foundation depth 1ft 6"(hard soil)

Mortar mixture used 1bag of cement, 12heapan of sharp sand ( please is this good enough?)

For the concrete. 1bag of cement, 8 headpan of sharp sand and 7headpan of granite( is this Ok too?)

4 coaches has been achieved and the surrounding roads are lower than the estate. Next stage is filling and German Floor

I have insisted on the german floor, I am being pressed to continue building and do that later

The area is not water logged, please what advantage does the German floor have and why should I do it?

The guy I contracted was also busy with another job elsewhere - in another state but didn't open up to me. I got to know from one of the boys he sent to work on my site.

smallsmall:
Most times, it is as a result of GREED, taking on too much jobs at a time.
You might be a very good professional, but when you delegate your responsibility, without proper supervision time, bad things will happen to your name.

I had the same experience with one of the contractors here on this thread. I paid him, he left his Workers to do the job but they were just slowing my work down and playing around because they said he was paying them on a daily basis and has been owing them for two weeks, despite having collected almost all the Amount billed for the job. I had to resort to giving them money from my pocket so that they wont delay my work any further, the fool was busy somewhere else but never opened up. angry

Best thing is to take only jobs you know you have the capacity and time to oversee.

I've fired the building supervisor for my project he took to roofing level because of a suck away he built whose slab is sloppy and other shortfalls too annoying to mention. He didn't know I was going to show up at the site on that day, he only mobilized some rookies to site and travelled to another town and those ones ended up doing a shoddy job. I practically was the one telling them what to do ... just imagine! Although, I've learnt my lesson.

dapotemi:
Hmmn, one tiring aspect of building, from the owners perspective is when you have made frantic effort to search for a supposedly qualified builder/engineer, negotiated, paid and what he does is just to assembly some local slowpoke called artisans together, take them to the site, mobilize them (with a very tiny fraction of what you paid him), and off he disappears! You won't see him again! He shows up only to ask for balance, this is my headache with you guys, all my friends and family that are building also have the same or similar situation...... Anytime I talk about engineers or even architect, experience friends and family member go just laugh, their thought, 'just assemble those artisan together and tell them what you want to achieve'... Your so called engr will most likely do the same... This method doesn't resonate with me, but it's just what it is..

Hello Michlins,
Happy Sunday.
The attached are both faces of same door. The fabricator pledged to use quality materials, kindly help me analyse the pics as much as you can to ascertain if it's worth the 60k I negotiated, it's 4ft wide. He's also fabricating the 3ft replica for me for 40k.
Thanks bro for all u do. God bless you.

I kinda share in your opinion, especially the external doors. It will compliment the height of the building. From my mind's eye, doing the usual (is it 7ft high doors?) will make the build look like a giant putting on an infant's pre-walker shoes ...lol.

@ Spyder880, you are doing wonderfully well sir.

michlins:
Trust me I love this job but personally I would love it if the doors are a bit wider like up to 4ft and taller to about 9ft. That way, it will have maximum lightening and air.

Not that it's a problem now but then "why have big when you can get bigger"

It's quite unfortunate you fell into this, I understand what it feels like being a first time builder/owner because I was once there - the desperation and likes especially when you are running on a tight budget.
Just as someone earlier posted, we should beware of anybody on this platform who is always quick in diverting general conversations to private mode (e.g. WhatsApp, calls,).
@stanley000, please sort this out amicably and let our brother go ahead with his project, money is not easy to come by these days.
@oga next, in case no settlement is reached, can you please advise on his earlier drawing if it means moving him to kobocity? I am a keen follower of Thomath's build and I must confess that I am impressed how you all carried his matter for head like gala.

samoranononi:
I had to, Even though the money was part of my business capital but I noticed he really depended on the money because I don’t understand why please pause a little on the job would bring so much insults or curses. Right from day one I’ve been telling him I didn’t have money for such. It is well indeed.
