diordaves: Was a PROPER German floor done? I hope you understand what a "German floor" is. From the photos you uploaded, what is the topography of the area? The photos look like you have a permamoist soil. With such topography, a PROPER German floor is crucial. It may be that your DPC has failed spectacularly leading to rising damp. The solution is to arrest the rising damp. Solution proffered so far by some knowledgeable forum members will come to waste if the solution does not include arresting the rising damp. You may protect the walls for all you care, but water will always find its level.
There are ways to arrest a rising damp but I'm not sure if the needed materials are widely available in Nigeria. For me, I will get a DPC Cream and inject into the wall. See the attached photos.
To apply a DPC Cream, dig down to blinding level of your foundation. Why? I will come to this later.
Take a level above ground level and drill hole at intervals INTO THE MORTAR of the blocks around the external perimeter of the external walls (see photo). Mind you, the way we lay our blocks, the mortar line will not be straight. Drill on the mortar, not the blocks. This solution will be particularly challenging if hollow blocks were used. This takes me to the next part.
Blow out the durst from the drilled holes and inject generous amount of the DPC Cream into the holes. What will happen, the cream will diffuse to form a DPM (damp proof membrane) stopping the rising damp.
The second part is; you've dug down to the BLINDING LEVEL of your foundation. Now wrap the external perimeter walls with a DPM. Get a carpenter to build a formwork of about 3 or 4 inches thick around the perimeter of the foundation and then pour a rich concrete mix into the formwork JUST BELOW the injected DPC CREAM. The DPC Cream should stop the rising damp and the concrete cast should protect the walls.
Then floor your compound. No interlocking for you. I've seen this done in Eastern Europe. Highly effective where the German floor fails with age or not done properly. |

gbadexy: Good morning chief engineer, Graffitex is N16000 and it covers 6/8 sqm per drum. The wall does not need to be screeded before application. It comes in different colors too and doesn't need painting but varnish could be applied on it to give it a shiny effect. I've been asked severally online and offline if it could be applied on an unplastered wall and an idea just occurred to me that it would be possible if the blocks are primed with good quality paint. This would help to make the surface of the blocks less porous, bind the loose particles and form a surface that would allow smooth application without wasting the graffitex. |

Congrats bro! I pray for more provisions to complete it speedily. Roofing is a significant milestone in any building project. Why not share pics for us to see. Gallybounce: thank you sir.
I’ve just completed the roofing , Everything cost me around 3.3m plus or minus .
I spent 840k for woods ( ayin ), nails, chemical for spraying , knapsack , transportation and workmanship .. I spent 1.9m naira for 390 sqm of stone coated black Milano plus accessories, transportation and workmanship I spent 460k for the parapet and workmanship ( these guys did a great job ) .
While the roofing was going on , I felt like I wasted money ( spent around 3.3m to roof 3bedroom ( two sitting room) flat). I Thought I shoulda added small change and buy correct lexus .. But when it completed omo I’m really really satisfied .. as in I love it so so much . So beautiful .
Another downside is that the area is not yet developed to what I’m used to and it looks odd, bush bush everywhere ., but I don do am I don do am. Tbh na force dem force me o
Once again , thank you and God bless everyone of us . Amen.. |

Gallybounce: Good day boss and bosses.
I just finished with the parapet and I think it’s right about being at the site with the workers for proper monitoring.. The parapet guy quoted 45 bags of cements and 45 cutter rods. Believe me, I bought 45 bags and he only used 25 bags for every thing.. I saved 20 bags already. I bought just 30 length of rods and it’ was enough .
That being said, I’m about to do the roofing and I also want to use stone coated shingles
My carpenter quotation is beyond my power. He justified it with original woods are expensive .
i want to ask if it is compulsory for the carpenter to go buy it? How can I avoid buying fake woods?
I’ll be going to get it on Monday hopefully ..
And finally, how can I spot the original stone coated gerard? and is it advisable to go buy directly from factory ??
Finally he charged me 200k for roofing of 3bedroom flat..
Pls help .. You needn't be in too much haste if your goal is to save cost. Get quotations from one or two more carpenters and compare. Speak to anyone that's recently roofed his house because wood types are always dependent on your location, also find time to visit the wood market alone to do your survey and discuss with some of the wood dealers on quality and cost. I got two carpenters for quotations, the first quoted 160 timbers, workmanship for 130k (rafter and roof installation) while the 2nd quoted 130 timbers, same workmanship for 150k. I decided to purchase just 95 timbers for the 2nd carpenter with the plan of buying more if not enough, you won't believe that the 95 timbers were enough with some leftovers - a similar case with your parapet's. For the original stone coated Gerard, why not give money121 here the job as I'm yet to read any negative review about him. Finally, you may also share your building plan here for the seasoned pros here to advise. The above advice may not be the best but is based on my experience after I made up my mind to be monitoring my projects myself. Best of luck. |

KolaShangOne: My NL people.. you won't believe how much I did this tank stand..
It's for a bungalow and meant to carry just one tank between 1000 - 1500 litres.
I got a quote from one of the local welders for around 600k. Did it for a lot less than (that title of Chimamanda's book about the sun?).
If you can decode, you will understand You just mentioned the relationship between cost saving and quality and I remembered process optimization in one of my engineering classes. Would you be gracious enough to share with us a breakdown of the costs/materials involved? Thanks. |

Weldone topsy23 for your selflessness. I'm sure am not the only one on here observing this. Other water supply also can not be question because the your location and over tank will determine tye quantity to be used/installed . |

Timely info. Thanks. MrOkenwa: I bought some locally made tiles in Abeokuta ( victory and goodwill) 4 days ago. The prices are given per carton, not sqm.
kitchen wall = 2900
Toilet wall = 2800
Toilet floor = {40*40} 3800
Kitchen floor = {40*40} 3800
Sitting room, entrance porch and rooms = {40*40} 4400(victory). Goodwill is 4300. There are some for 3800, which are the plain ones.
Go and do the pricing yourself. If you go with your tiler and he's known to them at the outlet, they'll add 50 or 100 per carton for him. They added 100 for us but we were ahead of them. Imagine paying that for over 500 cartons. He doesn't need to give them any signal. Some tilers too loiter around the outlets too. If you involve them in selecting a good tiles and all that, the sales person might add the tiler's rebate to the price they'll give you.
I'm paying 400 naira per sqm. |

Don't do 0.45mm guage steptiles or metcoppo corrugation to avoid leaking issues. That's the headache Kolashangone is referring to. Just go for longspan jejely if it's going to be 0.45mm. Most aluminum gauges are no more what they used to be. You are doing well in your project, weldone. redgem: Can you please tell me the conditions? I am currently chatting with someone in Lagos, she said she supplies bozac aluminium earlier but now she is saying it's Authentic aluminium (brand name) she supplies. Her company's name is Bamaco. She doesn't have black color for metcoppo 0.45mm and that is what I want.. Their office is at Pleasure Bustop Abeokuta Express Way after Iyana Ipaja.. Money121 doesn't supply less than 0.55mm, I wasn't happy when I got to know cos since I started following this thread, I wanted to buy from him (cos I trust him)..
