Hello EquityM, since these equity mutual funds are at their ATHs, would you still advise investing in them?
What about the Balanced fund?
I researched the outcomes of investing in both, and the investing in an equity fund will yield a higher interest, the balanced fund can cushion the effects of market correction with the investment in fixed income instruments.
Also, following the initial poll on where to invest 100m, wouldn't investing 100m in an equity fund be risky at this time?
And with the new SEC directive affecting Capital Market Operators, will you be stick with Cardistone or an assets managing with a large capital base, e.g Stanbic? |

nnoli90: Please guys, let avoid this website its intent is for criminal use Dear nnoli90, Thank you for your reply. I do understand you are trying to prevent fellow Nigerian students being scammed. I believe a simple search on Google, or probably connecting with a scholar already in Germany on LinkedIn will help clear your doubts. NiSIG is a platform for Nigerian students and professionals in Germany. I am currently busy with a lot of activities. Perhaps you could give a feedback after making a search online or connecting with members on Twitter, LinkedIn, etc |

Hello MackyNaija, I intend going for a PhD in Computational Science & Engineering which is a degree that mainly applies IT knowledge in solving scientific problems in a domain (e.g bioinformatics, geophysics, quant. finance, etc). I'm trying to break out from my field to core tech, but the closest field in IT for me is Data Science. After making a research on Bliπd I discovered that even Machine Learning Engineers earn far less than Software Engineers and other big boys in core tech. What's your advice regarding this path in Computational Science? Predstan: I swear, that space is just too exciting. That’s what is pushing me to complete this PhD in computer science. 9-5 job in America could be blood money too. I literally read a google employee whose TC was $2M.
These guys who work for Hedge Funds as Quant Analyst are banging some big money too. @Predstan I believe you're also majoring in Machine Learning. Is there a particular niche that you're interested in? |

LegendHero: If you have a Geology undergrad with CGPA of at least 3.5/5 or 3.0/4.0, then you can get admitted easily. Since the course is not that core engineering kind, you can always adapt. I know a lot of guys then with even other courses like Biology that cope very very very very well.
You’ll have lot of take home assignments that contribute much than even exams to your final grade and you can always seek help from your colleague with that. Then all what you learn can just be used in the exams which will make it very easy. That's a lot for this. I made a research in August about switching to Industrial Engineering and I discovered that I'd need to take courses like Thermodynamics before being offered admission, or take core engineering courses after admission. Someone I know working in the US, after MSc in Industrial Engineering & Management, told me there are lots of opportunities in that field. However, I'd like to know the possibility of getting a fully funded ride via cold emailing a professor, even though I have a strong 2'1 in Geology (major in Geophysics)? |
Career › Re: How Good Is A Career In Industrial Engineering by BelieverDE: 2:03pm On Sep 15, 2021 |
LegendHero: Firstly you don’t state whether your options is open to both home and abroad. I’ll advise based on what I know.
I don’t know much about how Industrial Engineers currently fare in Nigeria but in countries like USA, it’s a nice course and if you can try to apply for masters in Industrial Engineering to USA, you will be very glad you did.
To start with, industrial Engineering is like the bridge between Engineering and other disciplines so whether you study Mechanical or Geology as undergrad, you will be admitted to Industrial Engineering master’s easily. (Note: I don’t know much about Naija universities master’s requirements but I might guess it’s the same).
After you graduate, you can work in virtually all sector because the philosophy is that industrial engineers are there to improve the process and make it efficient and optimal. So you get jobs well in Consulting firms, Engineering companies, IT companies, Banks, infact if you improve yourself well and learn programming skills, an Industrial Engineering Master’s with programming skills will land you lot of top tier IT jobs.
I don’t know the curriculum much in Naija, but if I am to choose between mechanical and Industrial in Nigeria, I will choose Industrial. Besides the fact that you won’t go too much into core Engineering, it will avail you with the chance to explore diverse minor like Quality Management, Supply Chain, Data Science & Analytics, Product Development, and other core IE minors. With these range, you can adapt almost anywhere and make impact. Even in Naija, building yourself well in one of this should get you a good job if merit is involved.
Lastly, it’s your life and desire. If Industrial Engineeeing is what you want please go for it because I don’t see any major life changing difference between Industrial or Mechanical. Infact in some schools they are fused into the same department like Mechanical & Industrial Engineering dept.
Help: Visit this thread on questions on USA admission and general inquiries for your MS. https://www.nairaland.com/6354180/general-usa-student-visa-enquiries-part At the emboldened, could you please enlighten me about this? I am interested in it, but don't know if I will easily cope since I'm not coming from an engineering background |

Travel › Re: Naija to Yankee Thoughts And Experiences by BelieverDE: 11:11am On Aug 22, 2021 |
MackyNaija: i. You can get admitted in Civil Engineering; a related field easily helps during the visa interview. ii. When you arrive, you'll do 1 semester (pick courses close to the department you finally intend to end up). iii. Before the second semester starts, ask to switch departments (schools are very flexible). They might accept 1 or 2 out of the three courses from your first semester. iv. You get approved and make the switch. Two guys who I schooled with switched from Civil and Chemical to Industrial, a lady did the same from Chemical. Thank you so much for this fantastic insight; I never knew this was possible. Do you still think it's possible to make switch departments if I have been accepted as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, or a Graduate Research Assistant? |
Travel › Re: Naija to Yankee Thoughts And Experiences by BelieverDE: 2:41pm On Aug 20, 2021 |
MackyNaija: Call it bias or whatever you want but I'd say: go for Industrial Engineering. After Computer Sci and Electrical Engrg, I believe Industrial Engrg is the next best course in Engineering with lots of opportunities.
Luck also follow for the matter, I have been told of a naija Bsc Petroleum and yankee Msc Petroleum guy that got a job here as an Operations Manager in Amaz0n Supply Chain operations. On a good day, that should not or would not happen. Similarly, I have attended a webinar where two persons studied Petroleum Engineering at Bsc and Msc levels but still got jobs as an Operation Manager and Business Analyst respectively. Na una wer get IT & Engineering background na e cor enjoy am pass. I went online to see how I could tie my discipline to Industrial Engineering but I couldn't. The closest is Civil Engineering. I guess I'll have to go for any management related course such as Energy Management or Supply Chain Management. |

I read about you and @salford discussing the future of the Oil industry. You guys opined that the future in that industry is bleak, and you also admonished us about not studying a course where there are few opportunities that will make one compete even with the locals.
I studied Geophysics for my B.Sc, and I would like to consider other non-hydrocarbon related career paths after my M.Sc. I am considering options in Environmental Geoscience/Environmental Engineering. I will appreciate your advice in this path. |

Zikoko, thanks for your educative interviews you always have with amazing people. Few things I learnt from this interview that brings money: * Pushing of Commodities (i.e pushing bags of rice, beans, etc to sell in a consumer location) * Equities, Treasury Bills, Treasury Notes and Treasury bonds * Real Estate (either investment or commission for looking for a buyer of properties) * Importation of cars (although risky if not insured) Congrats to that 23 year old champ! Don’t let peer pressure rob you off your real treasure. If your old phone works, use it. you don’t need a new phone. You need a new investment. Invest. Don’t impress! Below are 10 Things You Can Invest in Instead of an iPhone13: * A plot of land in a low cost area * 40 bags of rice at a rural area to sell at a profit in an urban area * Trade in forex * Buy 3 Microsoft shares * Buy 6 Apple shares * Rent a one bedroom and use it for Airbnb * Buy treasury bonds * Start a POS business * Join lendingclub and earn money lending money to people who are guaranteed to repay * Invest in a course and learn an income generating skill |

I did not receive any text from NIS to come for my passport. I waited for 6 weeks after my photo was captured.
Some persons were captured in July and came for their passport in August; I suppose it's as a result of the scarcity of passport booklets |

KlausMichaelson: Yesterday night I mistakenly splashed water on my system (Dell Latitude) and instantly I cleaned the water. This morning I used the system and it was in perfect condition until it started misbehaving. It has refused to turn on all this while after showing the blue screen. Whenever I hit the ON button, the fan keeps rolling but the system doesn't come on and after some minutes, the fan stops and it goes off. Please what could be the solution? I was in your situation some weeks ago. The blue screen scared the hell outta me. I began thinking about my files I was about to lose.....thanks to God though. Here's a solution: 1. Give it some time for the screen to come up, and when it does; 2. Press the F2 key continuously till it gives you an option to open system Safe Mode 3. Uninstall any antivirus or recently installed software 4. You have to enter system recovery and choose an earlier date when the system was in a working condition. When it done then you are good to go! |

WillyWonda1: I got an opportunity to get a leave at the oil rig where I work and then joined the company chopper to osubi Airport in Warri.
Then I went home. I already had someone clean the house, so j just slept lazily. So it's Saturday, no light, it's hot, I want to go sight seeing around after a Long time at the rig.
So I settled for a Jetty around my hood and do the locals before evening cruise.
So this guy walks up to me. He greets me He: Senior braa, I hail Me : Shakes him.
Then he just started telling things he had before he was wrecked by his babe from Ghana.
Then he just drops the bombshells Him: Senior braa.... Even if na H. (#100). I go use am package. So I just laughed and gave him#3k. He just shouted EWOO!!. Mehn see prayers. So I sat him down and asked him to order for anything. And I told him to get high as much as he wanted. I don't have friends.
I'm a very low-key person. I just want to feel free. It's been long. And I'm linking up with some colleagues this evening. I'm thinking of calling him along make he enjoy life small.
I can snap pictures later on sha when they come. I see you are an oilman
I also stay in Warri.
My short term goal as a recent Geophysics graduate is to get a Graduate Internship position in an oil firm.
Could you do me a favour?
Please, next time when going out, kindly assist those little kids you see on the street with a token and some words of encouragement. It pains me to see them struggling on such a tender age.
Thank you and stay blessed! |
