So true! I've been learning Excel for 3 months now. The truth is, Excel is so broad and I get lost in it by lingering on it. I don't know whether to move to SQL or PowerBI (as suggested from the Microsoft edx Data Analyst Xseries courses) Gurus in the house, please suggest a learning path for me to follow After Excel, should what should I learn next. And what course would you suggest. @Ejiod, Kirill Eremenko's course on Machine A-Z is no longer on freetutorialsus.com Thanks all, in anticipation of your help always. |

I researched on the requirements needed by employers in Canada, and the prominent requirement is "Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent" and some relevant skills such knowledge of tensor flow, pandas, NoSQL, etc |

soleexx: I'm glad you asked 1. Programming is not a "hard" But I won't lie, can be stressful.. Programming is the act of designing and building an executable computer program to accomplish a specific task... Accomplishing this task when you still learning can be stressful but never hard... "Don't give up" my mentor encourage words...
2. There are no specific estimated time to learn but I will advice you to keep learning till the next 6months or more... By that time, you not an expect but atleast you should be able to carry on many practice project on you own
3. Its depends on what kind of programs you want to learn... If you want to be frontend web developer I think your budget should start from 50k from a well standard IT school, if you want to run full stack Or software Development , then I guess budget should be around 100+... You maybe lucky to see more cheaper rate its not a fixed price... What matters is a sound IT school
4. I can only advice you to search for top 10 IT school in your state that offer those courses ... My mentor gave me everything I wanted before he relocated to the States as Full Stack Developer
5. Programming Is Obviously one of the best career to pursue right now.. We are in the word of digital Computer.. Other field needs us to function well... Medical needs us.. We provide lots of ICU equipment human need to survive Education needs IT Banks Can't run without IT Even in the military. IT personal are one of the highest paid in Canada /UnitedStates also Europe..
6.You are have very high assurance to secure a job with your IT skills... But note! Not all that graduate will get a job in IT company... Just like medical school
We call ourselves Qualified Computer Scientist because we understand the concept and fundamental of our career especially in the practical area...
You will secure a job if you know what you doing You need to tell yourself! I want to be a programmer and you must prove It... If you learn and you know it... Consider yourself settled in life...
Tho NIGERIA got issue with Employment, Bright brain or not... Naija will always be Naija
I will advice if you still an undergraduate studying computer science... As soon as you through with school and you have your Skills at hand.... Pls I beg find a way to relocate outside the country
NorthAmerica value IT Europe value IT Asia value IT Africa? Not all
Pls find a way to run your master in advance computer Outside nigeria and not only you will be okay in Life...
You will be successful...
Any Day I realize I follow my dream right from my kid age... I will always be greatful
Let me tell you a funny facts about me
While arranging my docs I found my result in Nursary school
Out of 9 subjects
Result was 8 subjects result was D While one subject was A
Computer was only subject I scored A
I was very little then but I know my destiny that day
Yours maybe different but still you can rewrite it and be a full Time Programmer and earn fortune for yourself and your family
Thanks and Goodluck
More question feel free to ask.... Thanks for sharing some tips with the fellow. I also learned from it too! I seldom see many IT guys going into Artificial Intelligence, specifically Machine Learning. Why are you guys running away from it? |

olioxx: . First let me appreciate that you already have an area you want to focus your effort on. Second: Artificial Intelligence is broad with many branches(or nodes) like Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning, Robotics(as a subset), Natural Language Processing and even Genetic Engineering etc. Third: Regarding a learning path to follow, I might not be in the best position to outline that for you, as I am not specialized in Artificial Intelligence. But I would recommend that you read books on Machine Learning and Deep Learning (those that teaches Keras, TensorFlow, and ScikitLearn), also be very VERY good at Python 3 and SQL, then brush yourself up with learning R, MATLAB(optional). Fourth: You must be good at Mathematics and Calculus(Probability, Linear and Matrix Analysis, Combinatorics). Please don't bog yourself with learning the whole of these mathematical stuff, just learn the ones that applies to Machine Learning(Deep Learning). Fifth: If you can, pls enroll for a course on edX, edX is the best MOOC in my opinion. . ** Pls note that Deep Learning is a subset of Machine Learning. ** The learning path to AI and its subsets is very steep, but it is not impossible to learn. ** Start with downloading Miniconder and Anaconder so you practice as you learn. ** Very important, watch YouTube video, enroll for a course on edX. ** Pls note that at first, the learning process will be crazy, but with your persistence and curiosity, you will survive. ** If it's possible, there is this IBM online AI course, I don't know much about it, but please do enroll for the course, see ehn, IBM happens to be one of the best US of A companies that is very good with AI. You've heard of IBM Watson. Please search online for that IBM program. ** Lastly, pls join online AI forums, where you can ask questions and also learn from the expert. If it is Facebook group join it, if it's WhatsApp group join it, If it's Telegram group join it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I talk about edX course, pls note that to get certified, you have to pay(in US$). But there is a hack. You either enroll for a self paced program, or a follow through course/program(per say). These depends on what edX or the affiliated University currently offer, which means there are some course that are self paced, or those that you follow through(for some months). What I do is, I will take/enroll for the program and learn without getting certified as that will be free, you just need a Computer, Internet Connection and Good Battery. But if you have the money, pls do get certified, as that will give your career a boost. If there is anything I omit, I will try modify this comment. If there are any ML engineers on Nairaland, pls make una comment oooo. Oh before I forget, on Google search bar, type in "Best Books for Machine Learning". If you find any O'Reilly or Packet Publication books, please do buy it or download it, those guys publish very standard book. My library is filled up with their books. They are good publishers, especially tech related books. You're a great helper. I really appreciate your valuable input. You have a way of clarifying things and this has helped me to sort through the choices. As suggested, I have mapped out AI forums to join. I have also looked up related MOOCs to take. Thanks for bringing the IBM AI online course to my notice and thanks again for being so willing to help me figure things out. |

olioxx: . My Humble Tips: First: I would recommend that you have an in demand skill(tech skill) or that you polish your skills very well. No foreign company will bother about you if you are a basics front end developer(there are tons to choose from). I would recommend that you learn up to being a full-stack web developer. If you have a foreign company in mind, you can go check out their job posting to get a clue of what skill they are requiring. Second: Make as much website as possible to get the attention of these companies. In summary, build a very solid portfolio Third: If you have a foreign country you would like to work in, please do check their in demand skills catalogue, you are going to find lots of in demand skills the country needs. Fourth: (pls note that if it is possible, then do this, if not it's not mandatory) I would recommend that you try learning sought after tech skills, like Artificial Intelligence, Mobile App Engineering, Software Engineer, DevOp, Full Stack Web Dev, Learning OOP languages(Python or C++). . The simply truth is, if you have sought after skills, then you can work at any company in any country. Please don't limit your self to thinking that you need to move to that country before you get work, It is highly possible that you work remotely with that company from Naija, earning in international currency. Hi olioxx, Thanks for this post. Although I have a background in Geophysics, I recently piqued interest in Artificial Intelligence. Could you please suggest a learning path I'd follow or resources I'd use to optimize my learning? Thanks in anticipation of your kind response. Regards, BelieverDE |

Started with excel already with 50% completion
Next after that is power BI for data analysis and visualization.
Then data science with python and SQL.
I am fascinated by data and thats the motivation.
Dropped web development (HTML CSS and JS) months back for technical reason. Can still go back after my obsession with data analysis.
I would really love a mental in area of data analysis here. Especially with source data. We're on the same boat |

willy2000: This thread was inspired by "Being Black In Berlin/Germany " by Danielhouston. I read and enjoyed the thread while it lasted, this motivated me to start something different.
I discovered that there is an information gap for people who want to understand how life is in Germany, though we have several threads on visa application, survival tips for students. I want this thread to be an avenue for people that have emigrated to Germany(with or without their families) to share their experience to help future applicants about living in Germany.
Kindly share your experience and comments on :
* Your visa application experience in Nigeria
* Travelling experience/ adjustment status experience.
* How you converted your visa to a residence permit (required documents).
* What are the immigration rules to follow?
* Residence permit renewals.
* If you are a Student. How do you find German universities How difficult/ easy are your courses What are the avoidable pitfalls for incoming students How can one balance work and study How can one make friends Fun things as a Student
* How can one go about job applications/internships?
* Using a credit card( things to avoid)
* Tips on how to cloth and cope with the cold weather
* Where you live and why you like it or don't you like it? Tips on choosing the right neighborhood. (Internet plans, phone plans)
* Public Transportation Vs Driving in Germany.
* Driving in Germany? How long can you use your Naija driving license before you get a license?
* Tricks and tips to get successfully get a license
* Childcare for children below 5
* What culture shock have you experienced?
* How to locate Nigerian restaurants and market in your location
* How much do you or your family survive on in a month?
* Fun things to do
* And any other advice.........
Please, I created this thread not because I want to share my story, but because I want everybody to share his or her own story. The mistakes some of us made, should not be made by incoming ones. I will want to reiterate, this is not a thread about RACISM and DISCRIMINATION in Germany, neither is it a thread for ASYLUM or IMMIGRATION questions.
In fact, I want this thread to be for those who have started their German dream to share what, where, and how the experience is so far. I will not debate with anyone and I'll also not answer any questions pertaining to school, work, visas, or therein. I do not know it all, and whatever I share here is my biased opinion.
