@ sweetnecta

nice one again. Human base nature is the stumbling block that stops one forming the discipline of drinking from the fountain of knowledge that leads to enlightenment.
Does that mean then that the enemy is not out there but lies within us? Shouldn't we then be taking the battle to our negative nature?
Have you been doing this? What results have you been getting ? I would like your further input.

@ sweetnectar

thanks a lot for your wonderful post.
from what i could deduce from your post Religion can be seen as means of bringing us closer to God our creator. but the question is, is it really achieving that purpose. if not why?

If people can go back and draw even more from the examples of their spiritual leaders, using the spiritual textbooks as guide[s], the world will be more peaceful with less
strife.
this one i like. but another question is why is it that people do not like doing this?

after going through a lot of the threads in this religion section i was forced to ask this question to all posters. what in your own opinion is the purpose of religion? and also in your own opinion is religion achieving that purpose in the world today? and if not why? and how can we make it better.
i will like opinions from everybody including atheists and satanists no body is exempted.

and still within those religious doctrines are areas that should unite all mankind but people tend to ignore those areas because of the Ego in us. they prefer to go with the doctrine of "MY GOD IS BIGGER IS YOURS" and this is the beginning of all the problems on earth.
Christianity Etc › Re: Body Structure In Heaven by benodic: 10:24am On Oct 22, 2011
what body structure do you have in your nightly dreams? that is what you will look like in heaven. your nightly dreams are temporary journeys into the heavenly or inner spiritual planes.
when you die physically your dream world now becomes real and no longer just a dream and you continue your existence there.

Once the Holy Spirit grants us Its blessings, how often do we remember to acknowledge them? Acknowledgment is done through gratitude, which keeps our hearts open to love.

Christianity Etc › Re: Stop The Attacks On Other Faiths! by benodic: 7:32am On Oct 21, 2011
The only christian who made a huge impact on my life was my room mate in school who never condemned me or my religion but gave me so much love that i never received from the rest of the christians in my class who avoided me like i was a leper.
That my room mate didn't have to preach a single word to me to earn my respect and admiration. He was an embodiment of the teachings of Christ. I really wish there were more christians like him who will live a Christ- like life instead of attacking and condemning people's religion.
Love goes a long way in opening someone's heart to God than all the arguments and criticisms in the world.
Christianity Etc › Re: Stop The Attacks On Other Faiths! by benodic: 6:14pm On Oct 20, 2011
nobody has the totality of knowledge. that is one unique thing in life. there is always another step always something new to learn.
truth is like the horizon always receding as you move towards it. you can drag a horse to the stream but you can never force it to drink. and you can never teach the truth by winning an argument. at the end of all the arguments and counter arguments of who is right and who is wrong what impact would you have made if at the end of the day you end up creating more hatred and animosity.
and what then happens if at the end of the day it now turns out that you are the one who was wrong all this time how would you feel.
think about this
Christianity Etc › Re: Stop The Attacks On Other Faiths! by benodic: 2:13pm On Oct 20, 2011
Now i am happy.
Some are finally waking up in nairaland religion section.
Criticizing another person's religion will never create any changes in that person but will rather make the person more defensive closing the person up.

More emphasis should be placed on how practicing your religion can make you a better and more loving person. This is what the world is looking for and not people that will preach one thing and do exactly opposite of what they are preaching.
I hope more people will take note.

@ iglu

you are very welcome to nairaland.

I am an ECKIST. Member of  ECKANKAR, The Religion of the Light and Sound of God.
In ECKANKAR, we respect people's believes or non- believe about God. Just like you i found Nairaland a very interesting place where one can air his views about any thing in life without physical threat to his life. Although some people here can abuse you for not following their own path you have to learn to ignore them and share with others who are matured.

Nobody has any right to tell you as soul how to live your life or what you should believe or not believe. It is your divine right to make that choice.

So my dear have fun while you are here and i hope many atheists here can come forward to give you more material that you need.

Not to get attached is often taken to mean "not to get involved." It actually means not to let your idea of how things should be dictate the relationship. That kind of love has strings attached. It means always trying to have your partner do what you think is right.

@ poster

first of all we are all souls created in the image and likeness of God. Soul is an individualized unit of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit is the essence of God, the life force that animates all things. Soul on coming down to the physical plane passes through the etheric, mental, causal and astral planes. so soul puts on the etheric, mental, causal, astral and physical bodies in order to experience life in the physical plane.

@ Jenwitemi
Religiousity = Is about a religion and all it's worldly contents and structures, like it's tenets, scriptures, worship of it's central deity(s), it's priesthood(clergy), doctrines and dogmas, and most importantly, it's congregation, or followers or believers or whatever one chooses to call them. A religious person(like you) is the one who lives his life within the confines of this structures and contents, a religious box, so to speak. The act of "linking up" with whatever deity is being worshiped is done externally(via written texts; going church buildings or temples; submission to the clergy; etc). A religious person has an extremely narrow worldview totally demarcated by the tenets of his/her religion. Outside those demarcations, he/she is completely lost.

Spirituality = The exact opposite of all of the above. The most important, however, is the journey WITHIN that every spiritual man/woman takes to make that link with the universal consciousness, the mind of the creator. It is all about depth, the spiritual depth that lies within all of us.

There are myriads of ways to make the distinction between spirituality and religiousity. I just gave you one. I am sure somebody else can go deeper into the differences according to the way they see it.
Take this one from Eckhart Tolle,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8LuFUJvcOU&feature=related
nice one bro. i couldn't have done a better job. religion actually is the door which should lead into the room which is spirituality. unfortunately people get to the door and stop, then they start singing and dancing and forget about going into the room where the real stuff is waiting for them.
