Absolutely spot on! This is one lesson that apc and their army of robots haven't yet learnt! In the last election,a relatively unknown party in LP won at nasarawa,Abuja, plateau, calabar,Lagos,Edo,delta and the entire SE region yet these states had no single LP National Assembly member or LP governor before the election! I pity most of the governors and NA members going to APC! Their situation will be likened to the former governor of Zamfara state Bello Mohammed Matawalle who became governor due to the crisis in apc but still decamped to APC only to be floored in the 2023 Guber election by the same PDP he ran away from! Despite the flaws in our electoral system that has smeared the credibility of elections, the electorates still hold the ace and the control will fully be theirs if only the national assembly will make the required electoral reforms in front of them. However I doubt if they will even consider it! APC claim they have the support of the people and come 2027,they will win by a landslide! Lets put their popularity among nigerians to a test....i challenge apc national assembly members who appear to be in the overwhelming majority and their new emergency lovers to remove the power of the president to select and appoint INEC officials including the chairman while making electronic transmission of results to the IREV become mandatory as failure to do so should render the election a nullity! That's all I'm asking😆😆 |
What do you expect from a president that graduated from a secondary school that was established 5 years later? Up till this moment, nobody knows Tinubu's father! This is yet another mountain of lies that has trailed Tinubu right from the day the late activist lawyer Gani Fawehinmi exposed his educational qualifications till date! |
Lol That one dey Sha but if you observe the cues you will save yourself from such ladies! It normally starts from an innocently playful spank on the butts or the unintended squeezing of the boobs or frequent bathing together can trigger a forbidden intimacy! And yes, some ladies with female besties who are not tomboys also do it! At times after breakup with their bf,(some if not most)female besties come around & use the opportunity to 'touch' in order to console the babe and you know the rest! For those who said they don't mind sharing their babe with another lady, just don't get alarmed the day she starts telling you that she is no longer in the mood for se.x or that she is practicing abstinence😆😆 |
That's common knowledge! Even apc minio.ns know that their paymaster is the worst president ever! |
As much as I'm enjoying the recent gbas gbos Elrufai is using to rattle Tinubu and his misguided robotic min.ions, there is absolutely no difference between him and Reno Omokiri in terms of loyalty! This was the same Elrufai that made it clear to everyone at APC that Tinubu was the best thing since roasted corn and coconut😆😆 Just like Reno had initially sworn never to work with Tinubu....😄😄 Well please continue your neck pressing! |
Who believes a cl.ow.n that declared on a seun akinbaloyi podcast in 2023 that he will never work with a drug dealer and certificate forger? Today the same hustler is not just working for Tinubu but also getting emergency love from apc minions who once hated him! |
With the spat of killings ravaging the country especially in Benue state where more than 200 people were burnt to death and most recently Enugu and plateau state by killer herdsmen, state policing has become inevitable! However, what must be done to ensure that the intent and purpose of effective state policing is achieved and not being used as a tool by political office holders against the perceived opponents? Making state policing effective in Nigeria requires addressing structural, institutional, and societal challenges while ensuring alignment with the country's diverse and complex socio-political landscape. Below are key steps and considerations, grounded in the current security and governance context, to achieve effective state policing: 1. Constitutional and Legal Reforms • Amend the Constitution: Move policing from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent List to legally empower states to establish and manage their own police forces. This requires broad consensus in the National Assembly and state legislatures. • Establish Clear Legal Frameworks: Define the scope, powers, and operational boundaries of state police to prevent overlaps with federal police. Include safeguards to ensure accountability, such as independent oversight bodies to monitor state police activities. • Regulatory Standards: Create a national regulatory framework to standardize recruitment, training, and operational protocols across state police forces to ensure cohesion and prevent fragmentation of national security. 2. Addressing Governance and Political Misuse: • Strengthen Governance: Effective state policing hinges on the quality of state-level governance. Address corruption, mismanagement, and lack of transparency, as these could lead to state police being used as tools for political intimidation by governors. • Independent Oversight: Establish robust, independent oversight mechanisms, such as state-level police service commissions and civil society involvement, to prevent abuse of power and ensure accountability. • Depoliticize Policing: Ensure state police operate independently of political influence by embedding strict checks and balances, such as transparent appointment processes for police leadership and clear operational guidelines. 3. Adequate Funding and Resource Allocation: • Sustainable Funding Models: States must have adequate financial resources to equip and maintain police forces. Disparities in state budgets could lead to uneven policing capabilities, so federal support or revenue-sharing mechanisms may be needed for less-resourced states. • Modern Equipment and Technology: Invest in modern policing tools, including communication networks, vehicles, and intelligence-gathering systems. For example, adopting AI-based predictive policing could enhance proactive crime prevention. • Welfare and Remuneration: Improve salaries and welfare packages for state police officers to attract competent personnel and reduce corruption. Suggestions include paying officers at least five times the minimum wage to ensure professionalism. 4. Training and Capacity Building: • Modern and Continuous Training: Implement intensive, modern training programs focusing on community policing, human rights, de-escalation techniques, and problem-solving. Training should be practical and tailored to local security challenges. • Professionalization: Shift police culture from a "force" to a "service" mindset through learner-centered training that emphasizes critical thinking, fairness, and community engagement. Programs like UNDP’s SPAAT initiative show promise in transforming police training. • Recruitment Standards: Enforce high educational and ethical standards for recruits to ensure a competent and trustworthy force. Transparent recruitment processes can reduce the hiring of individuals with criminal records. 5. Community Engagement and Trust-Building • Community Policing Models: Promote community-oriented policing, as demonstrated in Ekpoma, where police and community collaboration reduced crime through partnerships like the Atanakpa group. • Rebuild Public Trust: Address the eroded trust in policing (only 15% of Nigerians trust the police, per Afrobarometer) by ensuring transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to community needs, especially for vulnerable groups. • Civil Society Involvement: Engage civil society organizations to monitor police activities, provide feedback, and foster public support for reforms. Civil society has been critical in driving reform in other contexts, such as Tunisia and Ukraine. 6. Coordination with Federal Police: • Structured Collaboration: Establish clear protocols for cooperation between state and federal police to avoid conflicts over jurisdiction and ensure unified national security strategies. • Intelligence Sharing: Develop integrated intelligence-sharing systems to address cross-state crimes like insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping, which require coordinated responses. 7. Learning from Global and Local Successes • Adapt Global Best Practices: Study successful decentralized policing models, such as those in Northern Ireland and South Africa, which emphasize democratic policing, community trust, and respect for human rights. However, adapt these to Nigeria’s unique context, as direct replication may not work due to governance challenges. • Scale Local Successes: Replicate effective local models like Ekpoma’s community policing, which leverages community partnerships and local knowledge to enhance security. 8. Addressing Specific Security Challenges • Tailored Approaches: Design state police operations to address region-specific issues, such as insurgencies in the North-East, banditry in the North-West, or herder-farmer clashes in the Middle Belt. A one-size-fits-all approach is ineffective in Nigeria’s diverse context. • Gender and Human Rights Focus: Train state police to handle gender-based violence and uphold human rights, addressing public skepticism about police responsiveness (79% believe police take gender-based violence seriously, but broader trust remains low). 9. Tackling Corruption and Impunity: • Anti-Corruption Measures: Implement strict anti-corruption policies, including regular audits and sanctions for misconduct. The Nigerian Police Force’s reputation for bribery and extrajudicial killings must be addressed to build credibility. • Accountability for Past Abuses: Address unresolved cases like the 2020 #EndSARS protests to demonstrate commitment to justice and rebuild public confidence. 10. Political Will and Public Support • Sustained Political Commitment: Strong political will at both federal and state levels is essential to drive reforms, as seen in President Tinubu’s and state speakers’ advocacy for state policing. • Public Awareness Campaigns: Educate citizens on the benefits and safeguards of state policing to gain public support and counter fears of political misuse. In conclusion, as much as i acknowledge that trying to achieve an effective state policing structure in a rotten system can be herculean! However, if insecurity must be reduced to its minimum in our society, effective state policing is obviously the only option! |
State policing is inevitable! Please take a moment to write a quality post with at least 40 characters. This will make the forum more interesting for everyone. |
Who cares what Patrick has to say? Some people are even claiming he isn't even doing enough....others are claiming he is doing little and are speculating that he is soft of Tinubu! So allow him to speak! If you don't like it come out from ur closet so that we can know who you really support! |
Policing must be decentralized as soon as possible! Central policing is no longer sustainable or effective in nigeria! |
I'm really not worried about the navy repelling Boko boys...what gives me much concern is how they were able to go near a naval base without being detected! If we must be very honest, the previous and current administration have failed woefully in security! Just imagine ![]() |
Atleast she has made her opinions known which is a good thing! Most naija celebrities have turned deaf and dumb with what is currently happening in the country until it gets to them like timaya! |
This is the 'best' way to 'welcome' the president....
|
I'm not in anyway moved by these lamentations! I still remember prior to the 2019 election,an northern elderly man selling water in jerrycans was interviewed and lamented how Buhari had brought suffering to the country and how it was difficult for him to make ends meet due to the cost of living! However, when asked who he will vote in the next election,he surprisingly said he will still vote for Buhari! When asked why,he insisted that Buhari is from his region and religion! |
Tinubu can solve half of this security issue by requesting that his 'on your mandate' sycophants at the national assembly speed up the process of state policing! However,Tinubu also knows that the implementation of state policing will imply that he won't be able to control security in the states during elections! State policing if efficiently implemented with the required independence will drastically reduced ballot box snatching and violence during elections! |
His lamentations are not based on Tinubu's poor handling of the nation's economy and security but because after helping to bring this disaster of a president, they have been neglected! Their grievances towards Tinubu are borne out of selfishness! Once Tinubu releases funds to them, they will start singing a different song! |
Possibly compelled to go there after he heard that pope from a foreign country sent his condolences ahead of him! He will likely go to Makurdi to meet with the governor and not the victims at the affected LGAs! An incompetent and ineptitude president! |
Wike excuse for using a whooping 39b for renovating the ICC was because of exchange rates is quite laughable! It's not like he was building another structure! The amount of wastage by this administration is quite staggering! Unfortunately, the other arms of government that should be able to make the executive accountable are in the pocket of Tinubu! |
The title is hilarious! How can Obi be hated by a group whose name was coined out of his own name? Common sense is indeed not common from the apc trenches! |
Osanoghodua1:This administration will not try it because it will expose some top military officers who are benefitting from the war! |
Under this administration, bandits and terrorists are comfortably twerking on social media platforms like Facebook and tiktok! The audacity of these terrorists shows that the current administration is incapable of securing lives in Nigeria! |
Skudi:Nothing has improved! Instead it has gotten worse under this administration with the band A and B classification! Even most citizens on band A cannot boast of 5 hours of electricity daily and do not make the mistake of using a particular district, locality or state to justify the improvement of electricity! If up till this point the current shambolic minister of darkness is trying to convince us that our transmission line capacity has improved from 5MW to 5.5MW...hence it should be worth celebrating! Let's not even go into economy and security where this current administration has score minus zero! We all throught we had seen the worst of insecurity under Buhari but it seems Tinubu is very determined to outscore his predecessor in the department of ineptitude and incompetence! If a fraction of the number of deaths so far in the north central had happened under a PDP government, the likes of Tinubu and his media outlets would have gone guns blazing by condemning such deaths and blaming it on the then ruling party! The less said about this economy the better! |
If we had a stronger electoral institution that gives total independence to the electoral umpire INEC,future and present political office holders would be held accountable knowing that if they don't perform,Nigerians through such electoral system will vote them out! |
@favor914 But the American judiciary have been doing a great job of countering all Trump's unconstitutional actions which proves democracy is indeed present in that country...can you say the same about Nigeria's judiciary that is an extension of the FG? It's interesting that you are making comparison with america with respect to the unconstitutional actions of their president to justify Tinubu's recklessness....when are you going to compare the economy and inflation rate of Nigeria with that of America? Try next time to understand an argument before jumping into a discus that is above your paycheck and then proceed to cowardly block me due to your inability to reason beyond your copy and paste duties! |
favor914:Democracy has a specific definition and requirement that must be attained in its fullest not in parts! Don't jump into arguments you lack the required foresight to grasp! This isn't the regular 'copy and paste' you otiose folks at the trenches indulge in for crumbs! |
