RedboneSmith:My dad told me it means patience. It's an Anambra name. Enugu-ukwu precisely, if memory serves |
The BBC has a link that enables you to calculate how long it will take you to earn Neymar's weekly salary at PSG. It is pure fun. Try it and share your results! For me it will take me 547 years to earn his salary at my current pay. If I started in year 1470, I would be finishing by now. . See link below:http://www.bbc.com/sport/41037621 |
ifyalways:I think it depends on the airport. It's free at Houphet Boigny, Oliver Tambo and Heathrow as well as in Chicago but not free in Boston and Philadelphia if you are arriving. In fact, at both airports it's $5 per trolley! |
obailala:Don't worry about the backlash. I face worse nearly daily for arguing this position with many Igbo friends. Is Nigeria perfect? Far from it but I would rather we all stayed together and made it work. It is very possible and we can. Anyways, only time will tell. |
einsteine:I have decided not to comment on Nairaland for a very long time due to the rank tribalism and ethnic rancour that have come to live here. However, I decided to log in when I saw your comment. Your comment is spot-on and as an Igbo man I have always advocated this position. It will take someone playing an ostrich to say that Igbos are not getting a raw deal in Nigeria. However, part of this is self-inflicted (topic for another day) while the rest is borne out of the jostle for resources amongst the various ethnic groups especially the major ones. I have never supported this whole IPOB thing and will never cause the premise is wrong. I have been a student of history and as pro-Igbo-as they come but I do not believe at this stage that an independent Igbo enclave is what we need. I wish we Igbo people will channel our energy and resources in demanding good leadership from our politicians and office holders. I wish IPOB was a movement demanding accountability from Eastern office holders. Imagine the transformation that this will engender in the East! Imagine if IPOB set up a think-thank group to analyse the performance of past and present Eastern office holders and to sensitize Easterners not to vote for moneybags or those who go to Abuja and canvass only for the interest of their pockets. Imagine if IPOB used its resources to show evidence of looting by past Eastern governors and office holders? Imagine if IPOB went through the East and make a documentary of infrastructural decay in the region due to lack of investments by the various past Eastern governors? (Please let us forget the FG for a moment). As we say in my place, "onye mee oboya mkpokolo, agbata obi ewelu ya kpolu afifia" meaning if you treat your basket like trash, your neighbour will use it as a dustbin! We Easterners are so blessed with a lot of things but for me our greatest blessing is in our world view. Sadly, we have abandoned this. We have to go back to the basics. Imagine, IPOB drawing up a masterplan for various Eastern states and using the media to show Easterners that it is achievable within the means of their States and watch the people demand accountability from the leaders. These for me would have been a better and more viable objective from IPOB! As the Igbos say "ana esi na unor malu mma pua na ilo" meaning you have to first be beautiful inside or at home before you go out. As a people, our house is in disarray like virtually any other ethnicity in Nigeria. Our leaders together with the rest of the Nigerian politicians are giving us all a raw deal. It is not just peculiar to the East. If, we a major ethnic group is moaning like this, spare a thought for minorities that do not number more than a million!! Igbo people can only be in a position to ask to leave the country when we have shown that we can do it better than we are doing it in Nigeria. On the evidence of what we have today, I am afraid to go to any Biafra with anybody. It is going to be a dog eat dog place. I am better off in Nigeria today as it stands. Most Igbos share the same sentiment but they will not come out and say it. My maternal grandpa was in the Nigerian and Biafran armies and today, he does not want to hear you say anything Biafra because he knows that we Igbos have a lot to fix at home like any other ethnicity in Nigeria. I am sorry for rambling but decided to get this off my chest. God bless us all |
God bless you man. As we say in Anambra, Ife aku aku ife enwe enwe ga abu nkei! Iseeo! |
Stanleywaxy:The bold sentence had me in stitches! The truth bu na umu nwanyi nwelu ezigbo ajo onu. You need utmost self-control to deal with them. Sometimes they will tell you off so badly you will feel like jumping in front of an oncoming vehicle. I guess it is at that point that some dude lose it. Walk away-it is not worth it |
NRIPRIEST:I stand corrected then. Duly noted |
Iprofit:I stand corrected then |
jordanriverz:Aunty Jordanriverz, Chinedu bu onye umunze na Anambra. I hate to "famz" but I all I can tell you is he is 100% Anambra. The only thing Enugu about him is that he grew up in Awkunanaw, went to CIC and UNEC. Ogwusia |
Iprofit:Dude, go and listen to his Otu adi asi ndo! I don't know why you guys are always quick to jump into matters without a full picture! Zoro is an osha boy. Listen to Otu adi asi ndo and hear him mention his ogbe in onitsha and spit things only onye onitsha ado na idu ga ama! The same theme with Flavour and Phyno is that he grew up in Enugu so did the 042 to rep his hood. Like Olamide doing I love Lagos or Lagos boy doesn't make him an indigene of Lagos. I keep saying it, go and listen to Pac and the uninformed will never know that Pac was born and raised in the East before making a switch to the West! That is why inspite of everything, the East always got love for Pac cause they raised him. |
DerKaiser:How does PM work on here? When I try it says the person needs to respond to me or something. |
DerKaiser:Before nko! All those guys na our set and dem sabi play ball well back in the day plus the Ogbukes (though only one Ogbuke was our set)! Are you on our Facebook group CICOBA '99 i.e. C.I.C Old Boys Association Class of '99? |
DerKaiser:Kaiser! Semper!! I confirm all your deposits. Leave all these people ka fa na ako ife fa amaro! You must be my 99 set for Semper. I was in G and Nonso was in C and he was even in my Uni for a year before leaving or something. Back in the day when Nonso and co used to do Interact Club with those Queens and HRC gals. |
DerKaiser:Bro you are 100% right!! That is why most of us from 042 actually understand Phyno and Flavour cause all their slang are 042 slang we all grew up to meet in Enugu. If you grew up on the streets of Ogui, Abakpa, Obiagu, Afia 9, Achara Layout, Nike, Uwani, Coal Camp, Asata, Emene you will know what I am talking about. Most of us that grew up in Enugu have distinct Enugu urban dialect of Igbo. It is not Anambra at all. It is a fusion of different Enugu dialects especially Ngwo and the wider Udi, Nkana, Ezeagu cause people from the places make up most of the Enugu urban population and their dialects now fuse with us that were not from Enugu but taught our own dialects at home! |
realglob:Probably the same reason why everyone flocks to Lagos. If I may educate you a bit: 1. Enugu was the colonial capital of Eastern Nigeria 2. Enugu was the capital of the old Anambra State 3. Enugu is to Eastern Nigeria what Lagos is to the entire country To paraphrase the late Notorious BIG If I got to choose a coast I got to choose the East (Read Anambra)I was born there, so don't go there But that don't mean a brother can't rest in the West (Enugu), See some nice jugs in the West, Puff some nice sess in the West. Most of us rep 042 cause we grew up there and I will never say a bad word about 042 but mehn Omambala kai si eje finally! |
Zceesneh:I don't know why you guys are arguing this! Phyno and Flavour are Anambra boys. I am from Nibo so I can confirm Phyno. Chinedu (Flavour) was my junior at Semper and his mum is from my town Nibo and he is from Anambra too! Ndi Enugu we love you guys but no dey drag our people with us! Tomorrow you will say Zoro is from Enugu when he is just an Onitsha boy who grew up in Enugu and is repping Enugu. 2Pac may have repped West Side but we know he was born and raised East Side |
silverspringle:Sister, don't let growing up in Enugu deceive you as per state of origin. A lot of us grew up in Enugu and rep 042 but we come from Omambala. Bit like West siders who never knew that Tupac was originally from the East Side |
DipoDee:It is really sad. I had to leave this site for like 2 years because of this and I know many more who don't bother coming on here no more. |
VulgarVulvas:Must everything on this site be made tribalistic?!! Some of us try to come on this site to get informed but the rank tribalism, hatred and viciousness against fellow countrymen on here is driving some of us away! It may be difficult for some of you but please try and restrain yourselves! Domestic violence knows no ethnicity. I have close friends who are being battered by their husbands. Recently, one was so battered she was hospitalized due to blood clot in her head from her husband smashing her with an iron rod! These were not Yoruba men! Overseas domestic violence is also a problem. I am sorry for writing this long response but I am so very frustrated by the tribalistic vitriol on this site! Peace. |
ocheejemb:Trust me bro most offices in Nigeria are just white sepulchers! You see an office in a high rise building in VI with offices looking plush like 5 star hotels. You see the glitz and the glamour and the money by local standards are decent but the treatment is crap. As per what I was doing there, that was the sacrifice I had to make to gain some good legal experience and the money wasn't too bad. |
Reading the OP really made me sad and brought back very painful memories. Nigerian employers are mean especially one man businesses. The worst of them all in my opinion are law firms!! They are just so terrible. They will deduct your tax and pensions but never remit them. Don't tell me I am a lawyer and that I should report them. It is not that cut and dried. In my last place of work, I was one of the top lawyers in there but saw the treatment other people received. In fact before I became valued, it was hell for me. Sometimes, my immediate boss will talk to me so badly I will go into the men's room and cry hot tears! Grown chap like me. Sometimes I would go into the restroom and look at myself in the mirror and pysche myself up. I would tell myself that I am that same guy that made the best result in my Uni class, that left law school with a good grade, that has an Oxbridge law degree and I cannot just become dumb overnight! What I did was to bide my time, some staff left and there were very few people to do the work and that was when they saw my value. In no time they promoted me but I never forgot that ill-treatment and I saw it being dished out to others. I had my gameplan and I kept applying for jobs. I got a job in a foreign law firm and I couldn't believe the pay nor the job. I simply told my former employers that my time was up and they were so livid. You needed to see abuses that would make a motor-park tout blush coming from the lips of lawyers who went to good schools and are well respected in the society. I was called all sorts of names just because I decided to better myself! Unbelievable! These were people I worked 247 for! There were countless nights I spent in the office and wouldn't leave the office anytime before 8pm! I would work most weekends either at the office or remotely from home. But I thank God for seeing me through and I work in a world class firm where you are treated like a human being and appreciated all round. My tip to anyone going through this kind of thing: Keep your head up, Don't believe the label they tag you with, You are better than what they say you are, You are a better person than they are, Hold on and be strong, Believe in God (whatever your understanding of him is) and ask for his help, If you don't believe in God think positive thoughts, Don't ever let your head drop! One day, our ships will come home. |
funlord:LOL!! Exactly what I thought when I saw the policewoman and I saw your comment ![]() |
Who noticed the church banner in the background proclaiming the God of wonders. |
OP, sorry for your horrible experience but I am afraid there is nothing you can do legally speaking. An employer has the right to terminate your employment without giving you any reason. What he has no right to do is to breach the terms of your contract of employment (COE) while terminating your employment. For instance, if your COE provides for a notice period or salary in lieu of notice then these are what you can enforce. No court in the land will restore you to your former employment as the legal rule is that you can't force a willing employee on an unwilling employer and vice versa. (There are limited exceptions but they don't apply to your case so I won't digress). Do not be in a hurry to take any job without looking at the terms of your COE on termination. If it's silent, specifically ask that notice provisions and salary in lieu of notice be inserted. Once it's silent on these, the presumption of law is that your appointment can be terminated on the spot without more. In the meantime, did they remit your pension during your time there? If they didn't, ask them to do so or if you are feeling vindictive whistleblow them to PENCOM especially if they are in the habit of not remitting pension contributions. Take care and dust yourself up and move on. Your light cannot be covered with a bushel. |
OP, I feel you. I have tried to send you an email. I am not promising anything but send me your CV and if it is as good as you make out I will try my level best to get you a job in a top law firm in Lagos. I am sure many may sneer at this but I am being 100% with you. Not to toot my own horn I have met at least two friends on here who I helped get something. In any event, all the best and keep your head up. Law really pays once you are keyed into the right place by God's grace. |
Inasmuch as some of these stories sound like fiction, they do happen. I dated a gal as a broke dude way back in law school and the gal after we finished NYSC told me that she cannot wait for me, that she doesn't know when I will get a job and make money and that she needs to get married and that the chances of my succeeding as a lawyer was slim as there were already too many lawyers. At the risk of sounding immodest, I don't want to state how God has blessed me over the years and taken me to an area of law that I never knew existed. When I was going for my masters at an ivy league school she came to my house begging asking forgiveness. Of course, I told her I forgave but that we are no longer on the same level. Needless to say, I look back and I thank God she told me that thing cause it really spurred me on. I also have several make friends who have told me of similar experiences with ladies. I wish ladies understood how a man's spirit can be crushed when you humiliate him cause he has no money. The closest thing that can hurt a man that way is impotence and come to think of it, being broke can be a terrible kind of impotence. Ladies, if you must leave a man cause he's broke, please never make it so I obvious. It really kills a man's spirit. My tuppence. |
kabaka1: It's just a slang he invented maybe to express sthg special just like Dbanj always says kokolettes 2 to mean all d ladiesJust a point of correction. The term "Oyolima" is an Ibo ululation just like "ewo" "chai". The term Oyolima is usually used in festivities involving dancing and adds to the joyous atmosphere. Another common ululation among Ibos when they sing is "ijeh". Some may say "weluya" which literally means take it but in a musical context simply means "take the dance regally". I could go on and on but I hope this clears the point. |
slam7000: I used to care so much about height till i saw shaq O'neal with his missus..im 6ft 2 and i,ll date Jada Fire who is 5ft 3..Cherokee D'A-se isnt tall either and i,ll date her as well...Oh boy! Punhub at work o! ![]() |
bolakale30: I hate internet banter but u are a slow-poke, ur statement illuminates that fact. If u wrote Jamb exams 8 times to enter a skul and they deny u 8 times is that enuf reason to beef the skul... U are nothing but a retardeen; the quintessential akpos...mtsheew...Dude, lighten up! Yuzedo was just making a tongue-in-cheek comment. No need for all the invectives. |
I find it shocking how people so easily dismiss other people's beliefs on here as delusional or unscientific because of western education. You would be shocked that there are more to life than meet the eye or that can be explained away by science. This world is just too profound for that. I recommend some of you watch the feature BEYOND BELIEF:FACT or FICTION on Sony Channel of DSTV and have your "scientific and empirical"reality shaken. I have experienced this sleep paralysis many times and still do and for me it is nothing more than demonic oppression. I don't want to bore you with the details but trust me when I tell you that I have had cause to wake up from it and felt a foul presence around me. Like most people said here, as much as I tried I never could get up on my own until I start screaming the name of Jesus in my mind and that's when I come to. I am not a good Christian but am not ashamed to say what works or has worked for me. If that makes me unscientific it's no skin of my nose. But the measure of an educated person is an acknowledgment that there are some things that are beyond his knowledge and which he just cannot fathom. My two cents. Keep the change |
For my part it is the height of inquisitiveness/insecurity/curiosity/"nosiness" to read one's text before the person has had the opportunity to read it first. Worse still, if the person isn't there because the phone will indicate that the text has already been read and the phone owner won't even realise that he or she had a text which their mate has read. Secondly, I wouldn't want my mate snooping about my phone not because am cheating but my boys tell me stuffs, personal stuffs about themselves which I wouldn't want to divulge to my mate. Imagine a homeboy sending me a text saying that he got a girl preggy and asking for my advice. Do you think I would want my mate to read that and possibly start disrespecting my boy? At the end of the day it is a case of as you make your bed. Allowing your mate free access to your phone, emails etc is not an irrefutable proof of faithfulness as people can devise many ingenious ways of cheating. So also shielding your phone from your spouse, while obviously suspicious, isn't always an indication of unfaithfulness. My two cents. You can keep the change |
