Op... I'm sure a lot has been said(no time to really read through). I'm also sure alternative medical/herbal 'specialists' have come to do their thing. It's all good, but you need to be careful else it ends in profuse lacrimation. VISIT A TEACHING HOSPITAL... UCH or UITH are my recommended places. I'm sure yours isn't the index case. I already have an idea what could be wrong, seen a somewhat similar case in my urology days. This is clearly not schistosomiasis though. The history is too sparse for me to make any conclusion. Let me know though, should you intend to come to UITH. I'll smoothen your consultation. It will be fine. 5 Likes |

Lol... The news is utterly and totally FALSE... Only 4 graduands were affected and it's due to incomplete courses as they transferred from another department(Medicine). Nothing as painted by the writer(whoever he is) is true. The issue is currently being resolved by the Senate. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Abby255: Luckily, you're in Kwara. Do yourself a favour and present yourself at UITH. The dermatology clinic holds on Tuesdays by 9am. There is a team of experts that can diagnose and appropriately treat you. You can send me a mail and I'll help you speed up the process. 1 Like |

Drguzzykola: Making a choice of Clinical texts can cause one's neurons to misfire at times mehn . You just have to find whichever works for you and create a niche for yourself with it. You quite commonly see people use 'unrecognized' texts and go on to top the class. Why don't you checkout Oxford handbook of medicine. Great text, highly stuffy, yet short and precise. Personally I'm a Kumar & Clark guy but I also consult Davidson for some topics. They are both excellent really, the difference is in the bulk and a few added topics in K&C. 5 Likes 1 Share |

TONYE001: Pharm is filled with numerous and humongous drug names ... Yes! But beyond that, pharm is actually very interesting. As Drguzzy rightly noted, you need to understand the basic mechanism of action of each drug class...the clinical uses, side/adverse effects and all are linked to the MOA. Then know what differentiates a drug from others in the same class. (You really don't have to pam every drug example) Start early too and be ahead of the class, you can't ace pharm by crash jacking! And REPETITION!!!, If there's any course you want to read over and over again, it's pharm. Revise until the stuff is spinal(conus medullaris level). Pharm will find a way to play on your intelligence otherwise. I used Katzung though, and there's a katzung review which is much less bulkier and suitable for very short postings as we have here. Kaplan videos are also great to revise/study with and would also come in handy in your USMLE step 1. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Starfx: Okay... Drop your contact, I'll reach you. But generally, combining audiovisual study aids and reading in an organised manner really helps in knowing your anatomy. Excellent Atlases like Netter's, Cunningham's and Grant's are out there, so also are several videos like Aclands and Osmosis. You can't effectively study an entity as vast yet organised as the body haphazardly. Pick a system at a time and 'lay it' . This is to improve your body of knowledge(which will come in handy throughout your medical training and beyond...). But when it comes to slaying your exams, you have to be smart.. Know your lecturers and what they want, get every single class notes and pam them back to back, practice past questions, meet immediate seniors who aced such papers to help streamline your preparations. But all in all, a sound knowledge of anatomy will make all that easy and relishing. 7 Likes 1 Share |

GodlySammy: If you intend to practice in Nigeria, Nursing is wiser to opt for. However Optometry is far more remunerative, but has a shallow Job prospect in Nigeria currently. Overseas, Optometry is better paying, more sought for in the labour market and way more rewarding. Most importantly, follow your heart. Pursue excellence and success will follow you, pants ... 1 Like |

Sakabest: Your post-utme score will play a great role... So will your state of origin. Your Jamb score is good. But I'm gonna be frank with you; if you have the liberty of choice, avoid unilorin and go for a less competitive uni. I wish you the best bro 1 Like |

Zhinurayn17: OK... You made the right choice by switching to physiology. It is very possible to crossover from anatomy and physiology in unilorin, actually it's a norm. The requirements is simple... The best 10 students in each of the aforementioned departments automatically cross to 200L medicine. The crossing takes place after year 1. PS: It is an extremely competitive exercise as you would be contesting for these spots with over 300 students in each departments...! Am a product of the system too... SO YOU CAN DO IT!!! 1 Like |

damilola8775: Funny I was already typing the little I could remember when it occurred to me I could just dig up my portal and post my 100l course form instead. I feel it's important to add that NO medical student with a cgpa less than 3.0 and/or with more than 2 D's in a session will proceed to the medical college. Why the rush by the way... admission list is not out yet is it?...Wish you the best. 2 Likes

ftosino: Your first year would be basically a recap of your O' Level courses... Maths, Chem, physics, general studies and a computer science course. Core pharmacy courses would be introduced in 200L.Would link you to a pharmacy student here for better communication (with her permission). Wish u the best! 1 Like |

Ifunanya2411: Congrats Dr... For the past questions, I could easily talk to the doctors I know here and get most of them for you... Regarding accommodation... there are a couple vacant rooms in the Dr's quarters u could lodge for the period of your exams... it would be imperative though, to arrive earlier so as to secure one... Fellowships would gladly cater for u pending that. Congrats once again! Am a 4th year Unilorin med student. Dr Lagusta ✋, why you press pause on your diaries now? 2 Likes |

Nairaland / General / 3 Huge Snakes Killed And Feasted Upon At The College Of Medicine Unilorin.photos by bethedoski(m): 5:15am On Jul 20, 2017 |
These two large venomous reptiles were just killed on the way to the COHS(College of health sciences) new hostel (which is situated somewhere in the jungle between UITH and PS) at the college permanent site. Apparently, the boys were returning from the BAMSAA Manifesto which held earlier tonight, when one of them (who was riding a bicycle) saw a snake on the road, he quickly ditched his bike, ended the reptile's life and tossed it into the bush. A couple meters after that, some other boys noticed two other Snakes (pictured below) trying to swallow some rather unfortunate toads. They also killed them and took them to the hostels where the photos were taken. From obvious indications, they look like mother and offspring... (credit:ladesignatory) The snakes were without further ado sliced into sizeable chunks, barbecued and... You know the rest . Lalasticlala... we don reserve your Peppersoup!
