TOTAL is a good company any day (just hope our bad managers don't destroy it as well - keep watching them 24/7)...those who bought long ago and sitting quietly will continue to reap the benefit and not shake no matter the price for now. While Volatility will make the speculators ensure the investors stay rich. Please this is not a recommendation or otherwise.

The NSEASI index shed 0.16% W-o-W, as the gains recorded in the past trading days were insufficient to place the market in the positive territory. The weekly market breadth closed negative at 0.51x following the losses witnessed on 45 counters as against 23 counters which recorded price appreciations during the week. Accordingly, the Year-to-Date return on the bourse advanced to 11.32%.

The greatest buying pressure was observed on LIVESTOCK which advanced by 19.00% to close at NGN1.19. At the other end of the spectrum, bearish sentiments witnessed on CONOIL (-18.32%), caused the ticker to close as the top loser for the week.

We expect the current trend to be maintained in the coming week.

For Newbies: Investors have lots of patience and always get in at the ground floor. Some bought stocks like Nestle when it was on sales at less than 600 naira was it expensive then you bet.
It might take a few years but will it happen again......it's good to be an investor....don't forget to prune your flowers a little though but don't uproot it entirely except it's about to die. Be 100% vigilant. Don't invest 100% of your funds in the stock market.

Good news remember the post about Stanbic IBTC......Good management team on board and changes will surely come...already started plugging loopholes of fraud. Not really sure who took this decision but it's sign of changes. If things are done right it helps not only investors but the Nigerian economy will be better for it. All fraudsters must be kicked out of sensitive positions.

Sure they were amongst the joint issuing houses. The rights issue was not underwritten. Perhaps they had an entity on standby and committed to taking up any unsubscribed rights. If this thesis hold true then "Onegentleguy" may be right, on the assumption that if they don't get enough from the unsubscribed portion, they would raid the market to make up the balance.
Come to think of it Bro, most companies in Nigeria especially UACN, Livestock (Agriculture - Presco, Okomu), FMN, NASCON etc have no reason not to make profit for shareholders (the market is here besides they can conquer Sub Saharan Africa) if not for fraud and very bad management! So whenever a good management team is involved I feel elated to join especially companies that have been paying consistent dividend. I must add that DD must be applied and don't just board at any time.

Really?

Not much attractive about your "United Army Concentration of Nollywood" right now.

- Shares in issue to increase by 50% post right offer
- Money raised from shares to be used to support floundering subsidiaries like Livestock feed
- 9 months Basic EPS dropped from 133k to 79k. We are yet to factor in the effect of 50% increase in shares. Y/E EPS expected to worsen.
- All companies in this group are underperforming....possibly systemic management issues or defective philosophy/strategy. Many subs are playing in preferred agric sector or FMCG that ought to be doing well but on the contrary they are struggling.
- Only standout sub is CAPL which is quoted separately on NSE

Short of new core investors by way of recent right issue, this is a no-no for now.
I think with Stanbic IBTC in that boat changes will surely come.....I may be wrong though because am a fan of those guys and also have a long term mindset but pruns my flowers when it blums.....so DD please

Don't joke with the US...anything that doesn't seem normal must be investigated and you can bet it's not going to be involving traditional rulers.

Read more below - SA/TA:

Following the recent wild market swings, FINRA is scrutinizing whether traders placed bets on S&P 500 options to influence prices for VIX futures, WSJ reports. If evidence of manipulation is found, it would be a black mark for the VIX, which has soared in popularity over the last decade as a hedging tool for investors. The CBOE, which derives an estimated 25% of its revenue from VIX-related products, has maintained that its markets are orderly and functioning.

Perhaps this is evidence of the manipulation alleged by an unnamed whistleblower who alerted the SEC this week.

US oil output surge 'reminiscent' of run-up to 2014 crash
PARIS (AP) -- A leading energy watchdog says that the boom in U.S. oil production is reminiscent of the rise in output that eventually led to the 2014 crash in crude prices.

- Not trying to scare anyone...lesson to self...makes sense when they say invest only what you can afford to lose/have a long term mindset.

Great Forumites/Newbies, because it (the Rise and Fall of the stock market) didn't occur when everyone is expecting it to, doesn't mean it will happen or not happen! Changes in the stock market is a K - It must go up and it must come down (making some poor and some rich) while the circle continues.
Also note that this forum like any other is full of the good, the bad and the ugly both knowingly or unknowingly dishing out their recommendations. However, the funds are yours so sieve through all the information but the final decision is yours and if there is anyone to blame for it just pick a mirror and look.

Is it time to move on and wait for another opportunity if not already done?
In this game there are always winners and losers but as someone said he who runs away with his life lives to fight another day.
Cut your losses when you can of course this may be the bottom but who knows?

Again from: Seeking alpha

Bitcoin slid another 13% to below $6,000 overnight, bringing the cryptocurrency's losses to more than half since the start of 2018 following a peak of almost $20,000 in December. At a Senate Banking Committee hearing scheduled for today, the SEC and CFTC plan to ask Congress to consider federal oversight for digital-currency trading platforms, many of which have been operating in a regulatory gray zone.

@Oracle

I dey enjoy you ojare. I lost a lot in 2008 due to trading on margin.

I bought fundamentally sound stocks, but my impatient broker sold them to

offset the margin. Kai I came up with rule 2. Never borrow money to trade.

Time is always a good friend to those that bought and hold below the fair

value.
Yes Bros...we have all lost at some point in this game...experience is the best teacher!

- Never ever trade with borrowed funds
- Always try to buy below fair value #Patience
- Always buy fundamentally sound stocks and best if it pays dividend
- Take profits as soon as possible...a little gain is better than any loss (but a little loss is better than a big one) #Don't-be-over-greedy
- If you are risk averse....have more funds in fixed income plays - appreciation may be small but it's constant #no-losses
- Own your investment...I mean keep very close watch over it
- If you do all the above then have long term outlook it pays #noHBP
